MARSHALL AMPLIFIER TYPE: Glad I found this. It helped immensely with my own search for an obscure part. I hope you will forgive me for posting this for others who may find it too coming from the same field as myself.
Just for reference for anyone who comes here as I did looking to identify them from their guitar amplifier, Marshall use a version of these on their PCBs in most of their amp models. They chose the slimmest in the range, the "EH" type which isn't shown in the video above as it is obviously a separate application. They are 2.5mm pitch with a 3 sided shroud open all along the whole of one long side on the PCB mounted male socket. It also has two slots on each side, one internal to the shroud and one through it. The wire mounting female plug has two locating/locking ridges down both of its short edges which fit into those slots. The socket also has small vertical ridges along the shroud back wall between each of the terminals while the plug has notches to register with them.
Still great info... This is why you are so greatly missed by so many thousands... Rest well my friend.
Thanks so much for putting this together! I've spent so much time trying to figure out what connector I need for my 4-in-one exc to omnibus and now I understand what I need!

People like you make the internet what it is. Thank you.
Great job explaining the connector types... been searching everywhere trying to understand these cables and connectors...
I have searched and searched and I think you have just shown the mystery connector I've looked for. Thank you!
Another great vid JC.
Built an AWK210 after seeing your review and I have not been disappointed, thank you!
I 3d printed a ninja flex sleeve to take up the gap between the camera mount and my run cam swift 2/hs1177 style. Soft-mounted cam;-)
This is such a life saver, it even works with Dell OEM PC cases for custom build.. cause Alienware likes to use those for their own motherboard and not for any other so this resolves everything!! Thank you so much!!!
Perplexity AI recommended this video in relation to trying to identify a JST connector. Looks like this creator has passed away, but his legacy continues to live on helping people.
Thank you very much!!! You just solved a 2 year problem I've been having trying to locate the right JST 2mm 3pin. Found the exact ones I need on ebay and just ordered them. Thanks again!!!!

Wad up Micheal, i need a JST 0.8mm 5pin with a converter to usb otg, any idea where i can get that. Thanks
This is going to help a ton of people. Great video.
Outstanding JC! I'll be coming back to this one over and over. I also like your Birds and the Bees explanation, haha :)
Thank you for taking the time to share this helpful experience.
Great video. Simple explanation for what has been complicated to solve on my own.
You just saved my (JST) life. 4 years after video release.
Finally someone who explains it properly, thanks!
how many times did i find your videos when i needed infos , thanks a lot lot dude, rip.
Dude. I wish you had posted this 2 weeks ago. I just bought a drone from a swap meet and was trying to figure out what I needed and it took me a couple of hours to try and figure it out. fortunately I did get the right connectors but this video would have saved me a ton of time. thanks for all the great content man.

awesome show! I always learn something from watching your Channel! thank you, now I know right where to go to get my jst connectors.
Thanks so much for the info. Not in this hobby circle but I was just looking to add a JST connector to a circuit I'm building and didn't expect... all this.
A great video and explanation. I can't believe I found you, and just in time. I broke the wires of my JST cable when my receiver got yanked out of my quad after coming down hard (ie: a slight crash....LOL). Have been asking around everywhere else and everyone else of the who's who in this quad hobby and no one could tell me what the cable was or what it was called or where to get one. Buy a new flight board they said. I'd still only get one cable - I said. Now I have found what I need on ebay of all places, and I have you to thank for it. Cheers and keep up the good work. I've subscribed.

First of all I really like your videos, very high signal to noise :-)
The way I tell the JST-SH from a Pico Blade connectors is the PB has one or more humps on the back and the JST-SH is flat. Also the JST-ZH (Spektrum Sat) pins are round, where the JST-SH and Pico Blades are flat.
The JST 2.0 common to the hobby would be a JST-PH, popular on nano quads like the Tiny Whoop, et.al.
The JST 2.5 is actually a JST-XH.
The very first connector you showed but didn't name was a JST-RCY, which is commonly used for micro quad battery connectors.
To solve the problem of crappy plastic insulation, I custom make all my cables and hand crimp the connectors (Pico Blades are a real pain) using a Engineer PA-09 crimper.
FWIW, the Pico Blade and JST-RCY connectors are suitable for wire to wire connections. The PB is good for signal ( < 1A ) and JST-RCY for low power ( < 3A ) applications. I like to make my builds modular where possible as I'm often having to repair them (I suck a flying).
I get the connector and pins from Digikey.
Hi. Do you have a link to a place you like where we can buy the connectors if we want to crimp our own? I am a noob so I am not sure of the size but I build 5" quads (JST 2.0?). Thanks!

I was trying to figure out this exact problem about a week ago for tiny whoop battery connectors. FYI micro JST 1.25, also was trying to figure out what the so-called Power Whoop connector was called... JST-PH 2.0.. I know you are going to save some people at least a few hours of research if not days worth of waiting for the wrong part to ship. Thanks
I definitely learbed something today. Thanks man

Very good. Is the 1.25 mm the spacing pin to pin? Please cover the different methods of controller output to ESC.
whats the strange 5 pin connector you mentioned from RMRC? You stated it at 9:10 into the video. Its the same one found on most Lumenier cams and VTxs as well as on the TBS UNify Pro HV

great vid man wonder why i didn't get the jst's i wanted. 😁the male end pin looks like well you know...🤣
There is a bit of a learning curve for JST but after you wade through it is makes sense.
There are series of connectors. The x.xmm values is the pitch or the spacing of the pins
EH - 2.5mm
PH - 2.0mm
ZH - 1.5mm
SH - 1.0mm
ACH - 1.2mm Wire to Wire
There are 3 components to a PCB connector.
The Contacts /pins
The Header/ piece mounted on PCB
The Housing/ The piece that fits into the Header
The ACH - Wire to Wire
Plug Contact and Socket contact ----- remember pins are called contacts.
They have Plug Housings and Socket Housings. look at it like a plug and wall socket.
The Plug contacts/pin fits in the Plug housing.
The Socket contacts are placed in the Socket housing.
So if you jump to 6:15 the beige connector on the PCB is the header. The white connector is
the housing. The contact fits in the housing.
You have to make sure that you order the correct series of contacts. The contacts or pins are either
EH,PH or what ever.
You have to watch as sometimes they will call a small connector JST when its not. That beige header does not look like a JST header.
I'm posting this just to solidify what I learned a few weeks ago.........Teaching it is the first steps in knowing it.
thanks
thank you, i always thought there was 10 holes ever inch on most pcbs, thats t he 2.54mm i have a bunch of crimps there are all JX wtf does this even mean? these connectors say jst-xh
have months looking for this
2 thumbs up
Rest in peace. You're still helping.
Do these connectors just push in and pull out or do you have to squeeze some tab to work them? I'm always afraid of damaging a connection if I just yank them out.
im always so happy when i look for something and see You made video covering it :D , is there some kit avilable that would cover most of them? i mean to let me do my custom ones?
I have an older Zenith television that currently has a mono chasis but want to upgrade it with a stereo version of the same chasis. The speaker connector that goes to the board looks like a JST maie two pin. Not sure of the size though. I have one speaker with the proper connector attached to wires but need another one for the second speaker. Can you do a video on the various two pin JST connectors? Thanks.
Very informative. Thank you.

For hookup wire try Adafruit they have 22awg stranded wire with silicone insulation. Its very flex-able I use it for all my cables.
Good review..
Every seller / maker must provide details specification regarding types of connector that they install on their electronic parts.. Just simply put in the website..
I buy the connectors and crimp pins as a kit, and just insert my own silicone wire. It's the only way to make sure they have silicone wire. Always go for silicone wire. Here's a quick tip: pre-tin the wire, insert it while the connector is still part of the metal stock strip and crimp it using really thin pliers, or even your sidecutters. Then solder it. NEVER crimp pre-tinned wires unless you're also soldering them in place.
I have a JJRC H36 micro drone. What I want to know is the name of the connector used on it's 3.7v 150mah battery called? Is it the male and the female connector?

In a Visuo XS809HW drone. Identify the Name of the connector (plug) that connects the proprietry battery when inserted into the Drone? Thanks, Jerry Parent
Gracias por el video me diste mucha informacion
A little general information on plugs and sockets. If it’s got pins it’s a plug and if it has holes it’s a socket. The shell defines the gender. The JST battery connectors in the video are thus. The plug fixed to the pcb is female and the socket on the end of the battery cable is male. So you can have female plugs and male sockets.
Oh darn, I was hoping you would cover 1S battery connectors. About the only ones I know cold is the Losi. The rest of them look like JST connectors of varying pin spacing, but I not sure which is which. The one on my nano hexacopter 'looks' like possibly a 1mm spacing (very tiny) and the one on my Furibee X36 'might' be a 1.5?? Too many connectors on these beasts.
I can't find the type of cable and connector I need anywhere, any chance you could help me identify it? It's for the camera assembly to drone connector on an X-Star Premium - 12 pins/wires, appears to be male to female.
Is there a good place to buy just the female pins? Specifically the 1.0mm and 1.25mm. I can find the tool for attaching them, as you mentioned they are quite expensive and I'm still looking for a good deal on one. But I would like to add my own pins so I don't have to solder wires together to connect two connectors and eliminate excess wire. Or if there is a site to just order different length wires that have the pins already crimped to both sides would be helpful too. Thanks in advance for any info you have.
I know hobby king has some cheap crimping pliers ($15). What are your thoughts on those vs. something like the engineer pa-21 ($50)?
You can put your the connectors on your own wire. I suggest looking into that. The 2.5 mm are XH's.
