- Join the concrete crew as we wait around for the rain to stop. I had hopes that we would be able to get at least one pour in but the weather made other plans for us. The city didn't like my first sample for the pillars so I'm back at it. I really hope the new one will get approved 🙏

If you ever wondered how much Bureaucracy gets in the way of growth and how it stifles small businesses now you know. Almost like they are spending your money for you.
Government's best ability is to separate the people from their money.
The key word here is small businesses . If this building was a large corporation it would’ve already been finished. This is what happens when you don’t line anyone’s pockets.
@@adamm9642 100% , Ryan’s civil engineer is probably respectable and professional so I’m sure it’s why city engineers keep rejecting things. They are full of themselves. He took that lot and made it 100% better than it was and it’s not even done.
Atticus is correct. And the big corporations have teams of folks for just dealing with these hurdles. Small business owners have to deal with all the bureaucracy and get the jobs done in time. Keep putting the spotlight on them. They hate being stars of the show unless it’s a ribbon cutting or some type of pat on the back. Get a good lawyer.
The city sounds like an out of control HOA.
Most “major” cities are exactly that lol
Even a hoa will tell you directly what they want
That situation is flat out unbelievable. He's improving the land which equals more tax revenue. That committee must be run by a bunch of Karens and Kens....lol Its things like this that send people over the edge!!!
you should've took your engineer's advice and sue them
@@jockringer6437 wrong....major cities don't have the time, its the smaller municipal cities
Apparently the city liked it more when it was overgrown and full of junk trucks. I just dont get it. You cleaned up all the overgrowth and I like the way it looks as is
Exactly!!
Can please some of the people.....
It was welcome to the jungle, before Ryan got there
Most people in government have egos and love power
Sounds like the city does not want your busines in there city
“Bought a whole box of paper, 5,000 sheets; just incase my drawings keep getting rejected.” I felt that Ryan, right in your heart man lol.
I have to admit, as a draughtsman, I laughed for a while at that one. Jokes are best when they have an element of truth to them.
@@TonyRule I bet you’ve had a couple of scrapped drawings doing that!
Carlito is seriously the man. He’s a great addition and he knows his stuff!
At this point the city is like the IRS. They know exactly what they want and will allow. But wont tell you what that is. You'll get in trouble and fined if its done wrong. A bunch of needless hurdles to justify someones job.
Thats the USSA in a nutshell.
The ☭'s have won the long game.
This feels like the oposite what the city should do. I'm from Sweden and here the goverment need to write all the rules down so the contractor know how the plans should look like and the send them in to the "city" for approval. The "city" just verifies that all the rules are followed in the plans and then it's a go. No back and forth like this. It's crazy.
DEI job too lol
Stop spreading misinformation about the IRS bud. IRS is the best investment this country can make, every $1 spent at the IRS returns something like 10 or 20 dollars in taxes. We have a huge budget deficit problem, only more funding of the IRS is the easiest short term solution.
And you can thank big corporations like Turbo Tax for making taxes so difficult. Most other countries just have you review your taxes for the year, otherwise it's already taken care of. But not the US, no. Greedy corporations need to make money wherever possible and forcing you to use a conviluted system makes them that money.
@@erice3525 Uncle Sam 😂
Time to have a chat with your elected people. There should be regulations and that's it. Municipal codes shouldn't be subjective.
This is the correct answer.
Yep time to get connected to your mayor let him know the BS your going thru.
Exactly.
Imagine a few hundred subscribers showing up to the next city council meeting!!
No, there shouldn't be regulations.
Buy land, you now own it, do whatever you want with YOUR land (or it isn't yours).
I'm from Germany and I really like the videos! I thought there were a lot of pointless building regulations in Germany, but in the USA everything seems to be cracy.
Definitely is night and day difference what city and state you are in.
My dad dealt with this when building our shop. Just do what they want, let it sit for a year then change it to how you want it.
As much as I agree your dad didn't have a youtube channel with a big following. I promise you whoever he's dealing with is watching and will get caught by doing that advice.
@@Kildahl1776 Technically this is perfectly allowed in some jurisdictions Like you only need to permit for Big changes or structural changes but visual changes you don't that's why you can go back and change looks because of the scope of the project turning "raw" land into a commercial property they want to be involved in every process. they are being picky that fence has been there years ryan was happy to leave as is. the city has a vested interest in mass appeal look so that the are get gentrified and increases property values and thus property tax so they are using what levrage they have to get exactly what they want
It’s your property why should it matter thru the city how the pillars look. They’re not paying for it. Ugh I feel your frustration. They are definitely nitpicking everything now.
Because it's the urban planning service, and you can't build what you want or change the facade as you want, even though it's your property. Some rules must be respected, a certain design, there are many of them.
Ryan is justified in expecting the guidelines to be stated up front. Otherwise, it feels like they are just making up rules at their whim. Their egos need to be checked.
Yes, so true. @@robertyu4313
It's a city in Waukesha County, they say they like small government but you'll find nothing but big government there. It's prime territory for people wanting to tell others how to live their lives, but don't want others telling them how they should live their's. So you end up with this. Rules for thee but not for me.
The city didn't seem to have a problem with the land when it was overgrown and full of junk. It's just a money grab from the morons in charge.
These permits are a scam. The city is concerned about how a pillar looks? That's crazy. Its sounding like they don't want Ryan to go through with this building.
There is a difference with code, policy, regulatory guidance AND aesthetics. If stucco look is a requirement then I would ask for the city policy that required stucco look.
Policy is JUST that, policy, NOT LAW!!
As long as it's constructed safely, within dimensional limits, and in good repair, it shouldn't be any of their business.
Hey Ryan, I work for a nationwide builder and deal a lot with different municipalities. A lot of times, they want your elevations to be cohesive with surrounding buildings or what they have planned for that area. Also, get to know your building and fire inspector. You think it would be as easy as doing what's on the plans, but most of the time, it's not. A good relationship will save your project.
Stucco? Wow those city officials are out of control.
Exactly how do they think stucco is going to look better than stone when all the other pillars look like stone
Buddy on the train holding up all kinds of traffic to say hey lol love it
Looks like some dude at the city is trying to make it as hard as possible. He's probably lurking in the comment section too, keep going Ryan, they cant break you
He probably wants his cut
Looking for a kickback.
Ryan actually deserves that just by the way he acts it's well deserved that's why you should never be passive-aggressive like Ryan
That is so cool you are friends with the train crews 😀
Just the one Conductor...
(let's see if he's here again and bites... this is the second trap I've laid haha)
I’m over in Mequon going through the same struggles with an addition I’m doing above my garage. I can’t believe the control that unelected officials have.
All about$$$ ,my friend.
Mequon is notorious for that, any place close to Milwaukee is terrible when it comes to building permits. Im from Sheboygan and it’s not as bad as you guys.
All I can say is you must really love your city. Think of all the money you could have saved by simply moving 5 miles out of city limits. Easy Money! Easy Nerves! Easy Sleep! Easy Developing!
Given that he got this land from a friend and a deal he could afford when land in the area is really expensive, He's stuck with dealing with the city he's in unfortunately. Plus he probably wouldn't want to have land far away from his house and jobs.
I think location had to do with land price and the fact that he’s trying to do the rental business now, probably wanted to be in city limits for a store front
this is so true, ppl talk about spending 2,000 on rent, you can live like a doctor for that amount of money where I live. But keep it down, really dont want big city types finding that out.
@@daledoback212how much work/money in your area tho? Living near a city provides tons of work and side work. Exactly or just do it slightly outside of the limits. I get he's invested in this, but this is a recipe for disaster.
Pillar's should fall under a grandfather clause. Pre-existing.
I can somewhat relate to your frustration. We’re in the process of buying a house and it seems like when you think they have everything they need they ask for more stuff and it just drags on and on and on everything will work out for you I’m claiming it!

I think the city are playing games with Ryan..
Those posts at the yard have been there since the yard was build I would say.
Looking round there's nothing that looks fancy are the other yards
Ryan taking the leap of faith to follow your dreams takes courage which you have displayed - and when you have faced challenges you have failed forward learned got up and kept going. All of this only molds you into the person you have become - it's the journey not what you have that makes life worth while and along the way you have made many connections and have grown. So all said and done when you look back at your development and have learned how to get there you wouldn't make the same mistakes - you have only followed the footsteps of those before you head on - never say never again as those around you have also grown along the way and learned. Keep up the good work and keep your head up - stay motivated.

My OCD would’ve made me raise the pillar on the lefts height to match the top of the other pillar to make things look more level.
I’m so glad I live where I do. 40 acres outside of a small town. I built a 40x60 barn with no permits or anything. Got the electric company to come out and hook it up with zero issues. Like what authority does the city have to tell you how to design your pillars on your private property. I’d tell them to pound sand.
The drivers need to do vehicles checks daily.
They start work on time and stand around.
💯 as a foreman or driver my responsibility every morning is to make sure the truck is loaded, check the oil,gas and tires. I didn't own the company but like my boss said you're responsible for the truck and whatever is in or on it.
If Ryan doesn't tell them to do it or does it his self the guys won't do it. They are like children need to be told what to do all the time
I can't believe Ryan keeps his employees..... every place I've ever worked doing concrete for 20 yrs I've never seen such morons for employees!!!! It's like Ryan has to do everything himself.... it's absolutely crazy

Not gonna lie, was hoping to be pouring today, but I completely understand. Pillars look great! City doesn’t know, that stamped concrete would look awesome. They’d end up making everyone do it. No taste
It’s been a while since I’ve seen these videos but it’s inspiring to see the company developing and the employees developing too. Good Bless!!!
A company just abandoned a major project because of the city in my town. They cleared roughly 8 acres, poured a Walmart sized slab of concrete, put up a massive frame and then just left it all.

You're a nicer guy than me. No township or HOA is going to tell me how to design my house.
With all that rain that you guys are getting California was the same way the first part of the year have a good day gentlemen
Love how the city tells you how you how something you own should look
Why don't we start going to they're houses and complain about the color of they're house, make them buy a vehicle that they do not like etc
What happened to land of the free?
Elections/selections have consequences !!!!
When designs aren't built to city code to the point, accidents will occur. Many great buildings go up in smoke or crumble because of building errors. One new apartment block in my city was condemned because the building material was highly flammable. 24 Story building could be up in smoke because the builder wanted it their way not the cities.

Happy friday victory crew!! My favorite day of the week!! 🎉🎉
if you want to go all out with the pond there's some certain plants you put around the edges that help filter the water
A detention pond is designed collect water on your property to pool up on heavy rains and slowly be let into the streams. A retention pond is designed to hold water permanently. Two different styles of stormwater management.
I have to share this, I always watch you videos as soon as the post. My girlfriend always ask why I watch and who wants to see a bunch of guys working on concrete. I would try to explain but this morning I told her I watch it to give me ideas about going to get things done at the house and she smiled and walked away. How do i explain it, watching somehow gives me a sense of satisfaction and watching the diffrent personalities of the crew working together, well if you don't feel it how do I explain it. GOOD WORK!!
I love the pillars and the walls and already even before it if finished it puts a different perspective on the house.
Make western red cedar caps coated in a thick bar varnish with brass lamps . That would realy add flair to your house .
Is there a minimum amount of flair? You don't want to do just the bare minimum, remember...

“My neighbor came over and cut this stuff up in reasonable size PIECES” 😂😂 Good Vid!
Put a rainbow on your pillar, you will get a pass.
We are ruled by the government!! It is time to lawyer up and stand your ground. More than likely the guy calling the shots here is wanting it his way. Remind him who pays for this plus his salary.
Or......more likely, an influential citizen who has a lot of money stated that THEY pay everyone's salary and insisted that the buildings in the city conform to THEIR sensibilities. I doubt that a plans reviewer in an office really cares how entryway pillars look. Claiming "taxpayer privilege" is a sword that cuts both ways.

If the land is zoned in the industrial area, why is the city worrying about concrete and stucco pillars it doesn't make anything different as long it's cost-effective for you, the land owner they should be happy to collect the taxes and have small business making investments into the area.
