Being a easy to deal with person makes for happy crew, but once the customer complaints start rolling in, it's time to put foot to ass
This is fair. Thanks for watching!
Try doing what my boss did when I worked commercial landscaping. My boss worked off incentive. Work the whole summer season, the best customer reviews, and the least amount of mistakes gets a 5 day Flordia vacation for them and their significant other. His way of looking at things were a Flordia trip will cost me money, but losing a contract will cost me more. My former boss would take the top 3 performers of that season, and give them a week on him. Just an idea.
Not bad! We are looking into p4p currently. Hopefully, that does the trick. Thanks for the comment!
sometimes you got to fire people if you ain't got good people then what's the point... nothing personal it's just business
Trying not to resort to that. Hopefully we can get it straightened out. Thanks for watching!
@@pagelservicesthe first minute of your video explains it all. “I can keep bitching and telling them and they don’t listen so it’s whatever”
You've obviously never owned a service company...Finding people that don't chop off their fingers or destroy what they're supposed to be fixing, at this time, is near impossible.. Heck, you have to be happy if they show up at all...
Employers are always the problem.
@@godbluffvdgg maybe if you run a shit company is work by myself before I had people like that around.
I’m just happy he hire’s Americans and not a crew full of of foreigners
Thanks for watching!
I definitely would recommend a mowing foreman/superviser I did that my 3rd year in and it was the best thing that I did had no worries after that .
Accountability is key and a foreman definitely increases accountability
Nice, thanks for the comment!
my bad now I feel like a hater love the videos and the boss
Yea but it’s mowing grass and blowing leaves it’s not that hard
I’m a new subscriber but I appreciate your video. I enjoyed it, thanks for sharing! I can relate to customers complaining -I had a couple guys that I couldn’t trust to do a job properly. I’d always have to go back and check their work. 🙄
Thanks for subbing!
Dude u seem like a extremely good boss I would love to work for you any day now I don't know what u pay but still having a good boss is the most important thing to me keep up the good positive vibe man
I appreciate that!
Keep hustlin', Brother. You'll catch up with Victory in no time. You're hilarious! 😆
Good solid conscientious people are hard to find, no matter what the job. My lawn is constantly torn up by guys who use the zero turn. Every run they rip up some turf. I told one about it and he absolutely ignored what I told him. I complained to the boss and nothing happened.i considered telling them to never turn around.lets see how they do this summer. I enjoy your channel.
Hopefully they get it taken care of, thanks for the kind words!
tell the boss man they ain't allowed to do your lawn with out slicks or turf saver tires........lowest traction and will drift thru water. watch them fall into ponds on a dewy morning.
The lawn company I work for cleans up the leaves as they fall. There should not be any leaves to worry about in the spring. Spring is for tightly trimmed shrubs and fresh mulch or pinestraw. No time for leaves.
I own a General contracting business for 35 years. Don't blame your employees. While it's true they slacked off; it's YOUR fault, You need to hire a manager or do it yourself...Employees these days are TERRIBLE...They require CONSTANT babysitting...Force them to do a video call and walk the property BEFORE they leave...You'll save yourself a lot of headaches...
Agree. When you knowingly allow bad employees to destroy your business, you have no one to blame but you. When your business is forced to close do you think these employees will give a shit? Your good employee deserve better.
appreciate the comment, we did eventually get them squared away. Thanks for watching!
@@pagelservices That's good, It's a roller coaster ride...It would be nice if everything worked out great and profitable, and none of our stuff ever breaks, And Salma Hayek comes around to give you massages...:) We remember the bad and the good is a blur...Good health to you and yours.
Employers are the bossiest problem in America. Lying and manipulating your employees is typically the problem. Employers all bitch about the same thing. Yet, no employer ever wants to look in the mirror and realize they’re the problem. Your employees are your number one priority and asset. Your employees give YOU the opportunity to own a biz. Create fir most amazing culture possible and you’ll be more profitable than ever before. Continue thinking you’re always right and you’ll continue to have the same problems. Be different than every employer who’s every existed
They’re more bad employers than bad employees. You seem to say the same lame sht. I’ll say is one more time; EMPLOYERS ARE THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IN AMERICA!
For 15 years I worked for a landscape company as a supervisor. It became too much because vast majority of the guys they hired were basically 30 year old children. I never liked to fuss. But had to because the customers were complaining. The crew uses to complain to company owner about me being mean. What I said was if they just did their job correctly with no customer complaints I wouldn't say a word. I would be happy. But to me. The customer is my boss. I left that company. One raise in 15 years. Low pay. Nice employer. But not worth it. No longer in that industry. I feel you regarding careless employees
Thank you for sharing!
Id be firing all the slackers, they dont do the job right and totally disrespect you by not caring about your mowers, to ask what there is to do when the mower looks filthy and piled with a foot of grass on the deck, total clowns
Hopefully if we get the p4p plan installed, we will see some changes. Thanks for watching!
First, make one of them lead and responsible for quality control. Second, tell them as soon as the rain is done get your ass mowing. We mow in the rain if not too heavy but we have all commercial accts.
Thanks for watching! Good info.
and how tore up are your properties, would the company host a golf putt putt tourney or does the place look nasty like most commercial accounts in the whole of usa. your mowing in the rain and when the ground is wet tells me everything i need to know about what kind of business you run. i wouldn't even let you on a golf course on foot with a pull cart.
@@aprilgeneric8027 What makes you think that I would even want to service your properties?
It takes alot of trust to put a foreman in place cause then bossman will have to worry if the foreman is doing his job right
So true. Thanks for watching!
You don't have to worry... customers will 💯 let you know.

I have been a landscape dept manager for 18 years, i have found that common sense is hard to find and work ethic seems to be a thing of the past ...
I will say if you have bad eggs in the bunch ...get rid of them ..yea it sucks to be down on man power but you will re coup
I will say your landscape crews do great work .. love the walls yall build

Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great job and great video!
Thank you! Cheers!
What? He's just showed u how to let lazy workers ruin his reputation. Wake up. They don't respect him
Are they switching the direction of mow? How are they turning around in the same spot every week? Man, you got your hands full over there bro. Keep going tho. Your doing awesome.
Thank you! We got it sort of figured out now.
Without a motivated leader type on each crew you'll need to have a schedule for them each day of what to do to whatever time they need to work til. I've had this problem for 20 years here in Fl. It's difficult finding dedicated workers that aren't pill heads or drunks or just lazy. More work on you, but you can't be everywhere at once. Have them sign off on the schedule every day. Finding out after the fact from the customer is the worst.
Signing off on the schedule is an interesting motive. Thanks for watching!
You do an awesome job you should be proud of yourself
Thank you!
You know them more than us if you cant trust them to uphold your name then you have to make hard decisions like riding them or firing. But only you will know whats best for your company.
Well said. Thanks for watching!
Accountability. Responsibilities.
Taking pride and ownership of what you do n how you do it.
If the crew leader doesn't do what needs to be done the right way, find a new one.
Fair words. Thanks for watching!
This is exactly why I run a sole proprietor lawn buisness.
Sometimes i wonder lol
It’s starts at the top! If attitude is piss poor up there it’ll trickle down. If you say “they probably heard my truck so they’re working now” that means you know there is slacking going on! Raise your expectations and hold guys accountable when they aren’t meeting them!
great info! Thanks for watching!
Go and work with them all day and show them what you want .
Might have to do this. Thanks for the input!
Dumb comment he can’t be everywhere 😂 unfortunately he needs a manager to help him
Performance based bonuses. Try hards make more money.
Great video sir I’m new subscriber here one day I wanna be this big like you
You can do it! And thanks for the sub!
Switch to walk behind mowers like turf tracers. They don’t tear the crap out of the turf like ZTR’s. I sold my last ZTR this spring. All standers and walk behind from here on out. Sulky’s for the win.
Not a bad idea, but our commercial accounts would probably take longer. We mow a vineyard, trailer parks, campgrounds etc. But might have to look into it if we keep having tore up yards. Thanks for watching!
@@pagelservices I have 5 crews ranging between 5 and 2 workers on each crew. We are located in the twin cities. Although a turf tracer is a bit slower than a ztr it is far less likely to damage properties when mowing in difficult conditions or terrain. A turf tracer with the Kage Wheel Kaddy is the ultimate machine for weekly cutting. With the deck out in front of you the operator is able to get closer to obstacles and corners reducing the amount of string trimming needed. You will also reduce customer complaints because they are less likely to create ruts, or tear things up while making turns. I have standers and they are great for certain properties. If I had to choose a stander or Walk behind I would take the walk behind every day. Another consideration is that turf tracers have a floating deck with rollers that will not scalp when mowing on uneven ground. I watch your videos because it is clear you know what you are doing. I would recommend you giving one a try. They still mow at 7 MPH which is fairly quick.
Also as far as mowing 11-4. You have to tell them it dont pay to send your trucks out for that long. They should be out mowing 7-10 hrs a day if possible. Also like you said if you finish early you should start on the next days route in case it rains later that week
All great info! Thanks for watching!
Yes I worked for a lawn crew for 6 years I had five guys under me if it rain they wanted to go home for the day if not they wanted to go home at 3pm everyday if the jobs were done or not had a lot of turnover with the help your crew will get better 😊😊😊😊😊
The issues are starting to resolve. Appreciate you watching!
Love Kaleb and your old Camara man. The old Camara man just asks the funniest stuff and don't really no what's going on. So makes it interesting. Sorry old Camara girl nothing agienst you. But good to see the 2 creators back at it. 😂

I would speak to them calmly. Dont go in like a house a fire. Be careful with just firing everybody, Because as im sure you know finding good help right now is a tall order. You dont want to cut off your nose to Spite your face i believe is the saying!
smart words! We hopefully going to implement p4p here within the next month. Thanks for the comment!
I’m wondering what you’ve done or you’re gonna do about the mowing crew and their screw ups. For someone to send you a letter expressing their disappointment in your business. I would fix that shit in a heartbeat. Nothing can ruin a company more than word of mouth. Nothing could help a business more than word of mouth. Seems you have a good relationship with your workers and that’s a good thing. A good boss is always good to have. When your guys respect them they will go to hell and back for them. That’s something I learned as a platoon sergeant in the army. You wear many hats and have many different characters to deal with. Love the channel and keep killing it with the videos.
Thank you for the kind words. The mowing crew has been running pretty good all things considered that last week and a half. Hopefully we are on the right track. Thanks for watching!
If you’re not leading them then you’re just a follower like them 😢
Your welcome I'm all business one thing employees never sees is what it's like to own or operate a business
Indeed, thanks for watching!
Imagine being them and having to work for an individual like you? The problem is you
your mulching crews need to learn to dump piles in the open spots, they spend too much time fighting to dig mulch out of the barrow and that's also going to ruin barrows as the forks hit the bottom crease. they aren't steel barrows which can handle that. i used to be a stucco tender so i've wore down a few shovels and barrows in my 20's they can pitch and distribute and pick loads with the pitch forks from piles easier less fuss, less muss, making easy sweeps instead of bone jarring jabs. as a tender i could literally long stroke cement faster, further and to more volume than they are covering the same ground 3 times faster. it's almost circular windmilling that is less stress and more muscle finesse.
That's good info! Thank you!
Expect what you inspect. Old boss told me that many times.
Good words!
If u want something done right there is only 1 way to ensure that tbh. But when its an easy task and u asign it to some1 else. It sucks
Smart words! Thanks for watching!
I get the frustration, but it's not unique to your company. Contractors of all types have this problem with young American kids. My question is: What advantage is there to going onto youtube and complaining about your employees? It won't inspire them to work harder. If anything they will despise you more and become your competitors. Seems kind of demoralizing to broadcast how much you dislike them this way. I really can't see any positive change in the long run on this move. Sorry.
Appreciate that info, but this is an entertainment channel. Our guys all get fully informed on the video, are given the opportunity to view it, and know the title and thumbnail before it's published. Thanks for watching!
Looks like your big belly is creeping CLOSER to that steering wheel there, "Bossman" ... 🤣🤣🤣😂😀
damn.. thanks for noticing and watching!
This guy seems like a very nice and laid back Boss... He has a great attitude.... But when these guys start slacking to the point of putting your business under you have to toughen up and put em in their place immediately. You can't lose customers or contracts for these type of people that are slack and just hanging around for a paycheck... Put the screws to em immediately or risk losing your business...
Thanks for the kind boss words. We are getting er straightened out. Thanks for watching!
I don’t make my guys work any later than they want to. I also don’t require them to mow lawns, we do actual landscaping/hardscaping. I also am right with them every day, working right next to them. I’ve only watched this one video but I’ll watch more, it appears you have too many chiefs and not enough Indians but I probably haven’t seen the whole crew yet. Good content, I will subscribe and continue to watch. My sample size isn’t really big enough to know if you should fire/hire etc
nice, appreciate the comment! Thanks for watching!
@@pagelservices no problem man and after watching about 10 more episodes, much respect to you and your efforts.
Should go look at that job . Letter from customer. Just ask him what they could of done or done better .
It's extremely hard to find good quality workers these days but if they have been trained, know what they are supposed to do, but don't do it; hit the road jack. I would verify the complaint is legit first, find out their side, and decide from there. Maybe if you do keep a little closer eye on them they will stop slacking off.
All words of wisdom, Thanks for watching!

It is pretty handy. Thanks for watching!
Hey brotha. If you were located around me id apply for work. Im trying to start my own business in the area of profession but being a lone wolf makes it difficult. Ive been doing this for 7 years on my own. If i ever move out that way ill give you a call!

The sad thing is, if those calipers were oeM probably last longer and anything you can buy new nowadays
Yeah. Thanks for watching!
idk what you need to do, but ya gota do something unless you wanna stop mowing, cause it don't sound like that crew is getting it done
It would kill us to stop mowing, as that was the first service we had. Going to try some things and see if it changes anything. Thanks for watching!
I would have a meeting with them an if that don't work then start looking for a new crew
We had the meeting, lets up we see the changes. thanks for watching!
wrenching with kenny. your caliper bolts aren't sliding so basically one side is being sucked into the rotor and doing all the work and heating up the most and causing that bad wear.
if you have a bad crew that's a reflection of your reputation on managing your company and it's reputation, reputation is everything, it's easy to lose, and almost impossible to get back.
show them all the clients they are losing, that's their paycheck, they don't help other crews cuz they will just cost you more clients and bad reputation....when it gets to a level the other crews can do combined...asta la vista.
99% of a crew comes down to their attitude towards doing things the hard way or top notch, that last 1% is how well you teach/train and supervise them. if you don't have time for that, you don't have time to run a business.
set the standards high, play some pitt bull, ..." reach for the stars, cuz if you think about it if they fall, they will fall on top of your girl...." just watched a neighbor with his fence company and his son just knocked up the office secretary....her daddy is performing a shot gun wedding and this girl is gold digging. pray you don't have any daughters. 😅
if you have a new crew you ratchet down on them by being their supervisor on the job every job until you have to leave the job to attend to other issues and you come back and they have completed the job to your satisfaction, then you can tell them you'll let them have more freedom to do what they need to so long as it stays at that quality level, you do the mowing & direct them everything that needs to be done and make it the best quality every time, every place every touch up and primp possible, that way when they slack off again it will be at a better quality level...and if they don't show them the door.
Good info! Thanks for watching!
You might actually have to do some work like speaking in person to each client and letting them know the job isn’t over until you go and confirm they satisfied!
We had some sit downs. Hopefully everything is squared away by now.
Grease up the caliper pins so you don’t get uneven brake wear again.
Are you actually looking for sound advice and consulting or just looking for traffic on the YT video? I’m not being facetious.
We are looking for actual advice. Thanks for watching!
It’s hard to find good help, sometimes a change in authority is needed
We got it all settled up. Things are going much better. Thanks for watching!
do you have morning meetings with all employees? just to make sure they know what you expect

Mowing wet grass is normal to me now!
For sure! Thanks for watching!
Well shit, your saying the same thing I say about my mowing crew! We need to be friends haha
It must be a mowing crew thing. Thanks for watching!
If you constantly tell the mowing crew to do things and they constantly do NOT follow directions/orders then it’s time for a new mowing crew 🤷♂️ otherwise you have to put someone in charge of them to babysit them which is another person on payroll I’d assume
Not a bad idea, thanks for watching!
Who's running that show, check the work, sounds like you don't need to be in charge to start with.
We got er all settled in. Thanks for watching!
I've been in your position. Their job isn't Lego schience. It just requires the motivation to get it done correctly. That my friend cannot be fixed. They either have it or they have to go. And that should make everyone aware.
We are making progress as of this video. All "hopefully" should be good to go! Thanks for watching!
I was working on a mowing crew here in Texas and we are working 11 hours a day
oh wow! Stay hydrated!
You shouldn't have to babysit adult men that should know how to do the job. After giving them so many chances. Maybe consider a 3 day suspension without pay. And if that doesn't work fire them. Only problem with that is trying to replace them. Alot of people don't want to work anymore. You can't keep loosing customers because adult men can't do the job
Appreciate the input! Thanks for watching!
It’s pathetic all employers want to do is blame their employees. It’s weak and insecure approach. Until you all realize you’re the problem, nothing will change. Stop thinking you have all answers and make all the right decisions. Also, stop informing your potential employees in an interview that you treat your employees like family. It is the lamest line an employer can use. The employees will always mirror the company. If you don’t care about them, they shouldn’t care about you
Complaining about your employees is not a good way to go about it. If you have a disdain for your employees, they feel it and act accordingly. Take some of the responsibility and be a better boss and give encouragement, trust and incentive. At the point when you have taken care of your employee lawn, you take out the bad weeds and hire better.
True, thanks for watching!
Fire the mowing Crew
Leaving those mowers like that doesn't show customers you take pride in your work n equipment
Rain days we get mower blades change n fueled ready to go when the rain stops n get all equipment ready n then work til u get caught up

Rent or borrow a tinted van and sit in the back while someone drives and go watch them work, see what they do for you
Don't hate it! haha
Get the guys some push mowers ! That will fix it
haha, but then the on the job hours skyrocket. Thanks for watching!
It's always better to retain business rather than replace it. Why don't you share the complaint letter with them and make them go to the customer's and make it right.
Oh we did. We have been keeping an eye on them and they are getting better. Thanks for watching!
I think a owner that offers a job can also end a job. Simple. Let these guys go. And if you have to pay unemployment to each one? Well, you offered them the job. And owners shouldn't be anymore protected than the employee once a job offer is accepted. Stop surveilling your help, and putting it up on the WW Net. That will also Hurt your business.
Appreciate the comment. Thanks for watching!
Give bonus to crew with no call backs
We are actually aiming for p4p sometime this summer. Thanks for watching!
Tell your mechanics if they actually Lube the caliper slide. You won't have that problem.

well just a wild guess but... his problem is they are all big pot heads at the least to the point of incompetence. people are complicated, its up to you to figure out what works best with the kind of people you hire. id say strict authority is needed because incentives should be mandatory to begin with so if the incentives arent good enough then all thats left is strict authority.
@@godw1ll99 I think as long as you don't get high before or during work and get enough sleep it doesn't make a difference but a lot of people aren't mature enough to leave their vices at home.
@@arbhorrent i agree. i used t be a 24/7 pot head from the age of 14 to about 25 never went a single day without being high. i do regret it now but i had the same mindset at the time that every other pot head has "it helps me work better", which is only true because the withdrawals bring you down but most are in denial about the withdrawals and are convinced they can stop anytime but yet claim they need it to function during work...
anyway, i quit completely for a few years and was way better off for it, now i just do it at night any time past 7pm and that works as well although not doing it at all is still the best way to go. just found out my wife is pregnant though so we will be quitting for good now. she has a hard time quitting but now she doesnt have a choice so this will be a good opportunity to get her to stop and never start again.
