NEW FOREST WALK FROM THE HIGH CORNER INN TO GODSHILL VIA FROGHAM (A "PUB TO PUB" WALK)

  • In this episode of my series “New Forest Walks”, I take a walk from the High Corner Inn (near Linwood) to The Fighting Cocks pub (at Godshill), with a detour along the way to the Forrester's Arms (at Frogham).. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
    I start my 5.5 mile walk at the High Corner Inn - one of the most remote pubs in the New Forest - where I enjoy a full English Breakfast!
    My route then takes me North, over Dockens Water at Woodford Bottom and up to the side of the Hasley Inclosure where there are some amazing views to be had.
    I continue North down into a valley to the enchanting Latchmore Brook where Logan enjoyed a “dog dip”.
    Keeping on the Southern side of Latchmore Brook, I follow it's course Westwards to a wooden bridge which I cross and head North past Ogden's Farm.
    At this point I make a small detour to Frogham, passing Abbots Well & Rose Cottage towards the Forresters Arms where I take light refreshments.
    I then continue my journey up to the top of Hampton Ridge and down the other side (past the disused rifle range) and across Long Bottom to another stream - Ditchend Brook.
    The final leg of my route takes me up to the top of Godshill Ridge and my last destination - The Fighting Cocks Pub.

    I remember HIgh Corner Inn in the 70’s. The track to the pub was full of potholes. Thank you for these videos.

    Thanks Dave. We used to live in Sandleheath and would often walk along Hampton Ridge to the pub at Frithham. I'm from Alderholt, my parents are from Fordingbridge and they had their wedding reception in the Fighting Cocks in 1977!

    My kinda walk Dave, 3 pubs and an English to start! Didn't realise the High Corner (the only one of the 3 I've sampled) was now a Butcombe Inn, my local brewery. I feel a re-visit is long overdue. Keep up the good work.

    3 pubs, 3 pints - albeit the first one of tea! Another great exploration! I loved the little clump of trees on skyline above Dockens water and Logan looked like he enjoyed the zoomies by the 2nd stream. Does Logan have a favourite flavour of crisps or do they just have to be Pipers? Thanks for another great Friday entertainment!!

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks Jean. I don't think Logan is that worried about the flavour although I only give him a few as they really are not ideal for dogs (and he gets normal dog treats after filming). That clump of trees at the top of the ridge is one of my favourite viewing points in the New Forest.

    Does Logan like beer, Dave and have you ever offered him a taste.? That must be a record for you. Three pubs and all open. Lovely are to walk in.

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  Před 7 měsíci

      Thanks Lionel. Logan sticks to water as alcohol is toxic for dogs so it is just me that has the task of "quality testing" the ale!

      @lionelmarytravels6003 Před 7 měsíci

      @DaveFord I didn't know that. I'm sure I've seen pictures of dogs with their tongue in a beer glass in the past.

    A pub to pub walk, with another pub thrown in for “research purposes”. Hard work, but someone has to do it. I noticed you’re using some new music too.

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes - the "research" & "quality testing" of the ale is such a vital part of the walk!
