On today’s video, we explain why Everton have made so little progress on the field despite spending more money than Liverpool, Tottenham, AC Milan and Bayern Munich in the last five years.
On the 27th February 2016, Everton announced that Farhad Moshiri had purchased a 49.9% stake in the club, with an agreement in place to increase his share to 68.6% two years later, ending the club’s ten year search for new investment. The Iranian billionaire had sold his shares in Arsenal in order to make the move happen, and since becoming a major shareholder at Goodison Park, the Toffees have experienced a makeover.
One of English football’s sleeping giants, Everton were a well-established but low spending Premier League club, one that had to sell its prized assets in order to stay afloat. Moshiri’s huge investment on Merseyside has transformed them into major players in the transfer market, and turned the Toffees’ plans to build a new stadium from a pipedream into an actual project.
However when he came in, Moshiri spoke of a determination to catch up with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea, and his reign has so far failed in this regard, especially when you consider that just two years before he entered Goodison, the club had finished fifth in the league on 72 points, a total good enough for Champions League qualification in four of the last six seasons. In the five years he’s been at the club, they have won zero silverware, have qualified for the Europa League just once, and in 2019-20 finished 12th, their lowest league placing since 2004.

We're not as stupid with our money anymore with Marcel Brands, He got Rodriguez, Allan, Doucouré and Godfrey for around 60 million, with Brands we're not spending big money on past it players that plus Ancelottis pulling power and we're finally recruiting smartly and saving a lot of money.

Only Man City (and Blackburn) have bought success. Chelsea were already a top 4 side when Abramovich came in. Arsenal, Man United, built teams from misfits and rising stars.
Everton lack identity in their play. Dogged and hard working used to see us through, now I couldnt really say.

As an Everton fan, this was really interesting. Over the past few years, I've always noticed the poor results. I think we've been lacking a ball-playing defender. Michael Keane and Yerry Mina are strong, tall, physical defenders. Ben Godfrey is a step in the right direction and full credit to Marcel Brands. I think he is a good person to lead Everton in the transfer window. I think Edmond Tapsoba from Bayer Levekusen would be a great signing. He young, physical, quick. He would suit our style perfectly. I also think Jonjoe Kenny will become good when he returns from Celtic on loan. I think he is a good replacement for Seamus Coleman in the long-term. If Everton don't want him, I think Petar Stojanovic from Dinamo Zagreb. He is a similar player to Seamus Coleman. He is younger and will bring down the average squad age. I also think a younger midfield would help. Palhinha from Sporting Lisbon, Florian Neuhaus from Borussia Monchengladbach and Yusuf Yazici from LOSC Lille would all be good signings. Palhinha is like Allan, Florian Neuhaus is like Abdolaye Doucoure and Andre Gomes. Yusuf Yazici is similar to James Rodriguez.

I should know, I've had a season ticket since the late 90's and have seen my fair share of good and bad Everton sides. The only difference is that the league is more competitive for European qualification at present. The future looks considerably brighter under Ancolloti than it ever was under Martinez. Digne is one of the best left backs in the League now, Yerry Mina is Brilliant too when he's fit, they'd both walk into Barcelona's team now.

@@Toffees1878 Behave 😂 Neither would. Yerry Mina was a reject because he was terrible on the ball - something crucial for playing at Barça. Digne was just low on confidence and wasn’t given a proper chance because of Alba. Jordi Alba’s been one of Barça’s only decent players this season. Neither would ‘walk into the team’.

@@xCDMM Both would currently, watch what they're like now. Mina wasn't great when he first came to us but he's been consistently solid now for about a year. Barcelona aren't good anymore.

The good thing is James Rodriguez doesn't have any conflict between those barca rejection (Digne, Mina)

Football Daily yet again with the terrible take.
Everton were not a club with massive pulling power, so new money from new ownership played a factor in getting players in. They have to pay over the nose for players unlike teams like Utd & Liverpool that have more international appreciation. And, whichever way you swing it, the acquisitions they made after that shitty spell were really really good.
From the beginning of the Premier League era, Everton's average league position is 10th (10.2). If they win their 25th game of the season, they will be 6th ABOVE LIVERPOOL. Tell me how they're technically worse?
No, clickbait because they got 4th one time.
