Ever since instagram merged with Facebook it’s gotten 20x worse in every department. Facebook is open about making sure your algorithm shows you rage-bait content because it makes people comment like crazy and therefore spend more time on the app and make it more money.
Ironically this makes me use the platform less. Idk why people fall for rage-bait so easily? Like if it makes you upset or mad, why consume more? I'd have heart problems by now if I had to keep up with that anger lol. Funny thing about social media is that it cannot figure out my demographic (as in, they don't know what to show me). Sometimes targeted ads or posts think I'm a lesbian. Some assume I'm from Mexico, India, or the Middle East; other times it thinks I'm British. I got ads and posts about Judaism and Hanukkah... I celebrate Christmas and I'm not religious. 😂 I think confusing the algorithm keeps out the bad stuff. It's when you start to hone in on a specific type of posts, you'll get shown worse and worse things. I started viewing a few too many memes the other day, and the next day I was shown some awful rage-bait. I checked out some random stuff and it basically reset itself, so I was shown good stuff again. I still get the same confused algorithmic posts and ads from time to time, which I always find funny. I guess we'll see if they assume I am a gay man again this week, or if it still thinks I'm a lesbian. Gotta love algorithms!
