This thief's attempt would hurt the local economy more than people realize. If sailors know there's crime in the area, they won't anchor/dock there anymore and the whole village will suffer from that lack of income. As much as I feel bad for those who live in poverty, the effect of letting people get away with stealing would hurt the community more.

From experience in my life I have been broken into while at home beat the crap out of the guy with a rounders bat. As soon as the police knew for sure that he had entered My home without permission I was free to go. Beat the shit out of them to the point they cannot move or escape and call authorities. Hello New Subscriber from San Diego / Baja, Mexico...Former Law Enforcement Officer, Day Sailor and fisherman...Love the Episode on the Pirate attack...Very Good information and I would also Strongly Advise against carrying Firearms... Unless you can do so Legally in every Jurisdiction, which is highly unlikely and more likely to land you in Big Trouble with the Local Law...and Unless you are Trained and Prepared to use them... the majority of time your own weapon will be taken away and used against yourself...Obviously the best Defense against Would be Pirates is to Be Prepared and have a Plan...try to prevent them from getting on the boat in the first place...with Alarms, Sirens, bright Spot Lights, a loud PA system telling them to ''stay away the authorities have been notified''... ''you are being Recorded and Broadcasted on the Internet''...Have your own Display of Force such as Flairs, Fireworks and other Alternative Weapons ready to use that may be on board the boat including but not limited to; Flare guns, Spear guns, Hawaiian sling, shark bang sticks, fishing knives, sledge hammer...Tools such as a propane torch or Flame Thrower, nail gun (not that a cruising boat would normally carry a nail gun but if you had one charged and ready for Defensive Purposes, maybe you could convince Port Authorities that it was for work purposes and they would not confiscate it), same with a chainsaw, compressed air Tank with some kind of Projectile ready to fire...and in an Extreme Life or Death Emergency situation a Gasoline Bomb...(Molotov cocktail) is a breakable glass bottle containing a flammable substance such as gasoline/petrol or a napalm-like mixture, with some motor oil added, and usually a source of ignition such as a burning cloth wick held in place by the bottle's stopper. The wick is usually soaked in alcohol or kerosene, rather than gasoline. In action, the wick is lit and the bottle hurled at a target such as the Pirate's boat. When the bottle smashes on impact, the ensuing cloud of petrol droplets and vapour ignites, causing an immediate fireball followed by a raging fire as the remainder of the fuel is consumed. A poor man's grenade if you will could be assembled from household products...MacGyver style...Good Luck, (Disclaimer as I would not Recommend this or any kind of physical resistance against armed Pirates)..Almost forgot my High Tech Security Deterrent. The Drone !!! Fly a drone over the potential Pirates recording their every movement and their Faces with the Idea that they are Identified and the Whole World is Watching Them...again Be Prepared and Mentally Tough to do whatever it takes to Survive...Good Luck

It's really crazy that people are defending the thief just because he lives in poverty. Just because you live in poverty doesn't give you the right to steal, nor does it make it right. There is a right and a wrong in this world. Do I think they could have given him a break? That's tricky... in these situations you want the person to learn their lesson. You guys aren't realizing that the boat is essentially their house. Theft is tricky and one of the most serious crimes you can commit, that could of just as easily gone wrong if he had a weapon. Just food for thought.

only westerners have the luxury of debating this, people of the thief's equal caliber understand the severity of theft, and they usually duke out mob justice to get the shitbag. Theft to them is one of the worst things you can do. Plus, this runs the risk of scaring off the wealthy transient foreigners who support the honest workers in the area through legit jobs...it's in everyone's best interests for this theft to be punished

It’s only crazy for people never experienced poverty, never lived in a dog eat dog world. When I was younger, my family lived in an area where police don’t give a shit and the place was basically ran by local gang. U think people think about right and wrong when they’re hungry? U think there’s a little voice in them that’s telling them no when u can barely afford anything and this shinyass boat came in with white people all smiling and happy. I’m not condoning robbery. I’m just saying it’s not unthinkable. And insisting and spending the whole day trying to find him ain’t gonna solve anything. The guys still gonna steal if he sees an opportunity. They are just doing this for their personal satisfaction and revenge. Which I found to be pretty petty

I don't live in poverty, but if I did I would do everything to help my family out. However if this guy went on my boat I would have chopped him up with that machete.
