nice work as always man.. when we heading out?
Is the book any good?
Please also look into the planter that hangs onto your waterpouts. They have many sizes. And you grow up. Thry are popular here to put kn the water pvcs that run next to your balcony.
You can put a zip-tie around the rail containers to keep them more stable.
@@ncrnw4385 yes! The book is full of good info and ideas!
How did you keep from laughing when you popped out from behind the plants?! 😂😂😂
Couple takes ;)
That was hilarious
LOL. Definitely didn't see that coming. I was enjoying the beautiful Spiderwort scenery and then, up pops Kevin. I had to laugh out loud!
😂😂😂 thats what i thought lol
Best intro ever 🤣
Yes! I live in an apartment and have several trees, herbs and vegetables growing in my patio. This year I went big and am growing corn which blows my mind. Thanks for the inspiration!! I love watching your videos.
That is AWESOME
What kind of trees are you able to maintain and keep on a balcony? Without them growing too large?
@@MadelineDoll Almost any trees can be maintained to their respective sizes. Your usual Mango tree for example may MAX out at 60 feet. But you don't HAVE to let it grow anywhere NEAR that. Some professional farmers even intentionally farms them at as little as 8 feet! In order to actually secure harvests from pests, falling literally exploding mangoes and so forth!
I like how you shared that, people think you can't grow trees, shrubs, etc in an apartment setting/indoors, etc. At least without hybrids/graftings. None of that is true at all. Even from seeds' (most seeds will work decently enough, there are exceptions but very fewer than you might think), with the right management tatic, airy containers, etc you can even grow more popular trees like mangoes, peaches, apples, plums, coffee, etc.
@@rickytorres9089 I have peach, fig, mango, plum and even a couple of grape vines. I've gotten fruit from all of them and am so happy to get at least a few and do cut my trees back. I even heard you can take them out of the containers and give the roots a trim. At this point its an experiment thats working.
I see a huge shift in people and their mentality especially towards food sourcing. More people are now joining the gardening world. I really hope they all stick it out to harvest so they can see how amazing it is!
Curtis Stone may be the King of Urban Farming, but you are the quickly becoming the go to guy for small scale Urban Food Gardening.
Keep up the good work and congrats on 500K.
Thank you my friend!
I live in the country on 2 acres of land and I still have to garden on my deck. I have a major deer infestation (lol) and they eat everything I plant...So this is a great video for anyone who needs to keep their plants off of the ground, not just apartments.
Had you tried throned plants, even as a preliminary defense mean? Native plantings might do well for this. Padded catcus for example, grow QUITE vigorously if kept well and consistently moisten (ironically I know) and the soil surronding them enriched with organic matters just like the rest of the soil.
Kevin, I don’t know how you manage to kick out a video every two days. Hey, I’m enjoying it and It is great to see someone with such passion for nature and gardening.
Thank you so much!
I don't either, trust me hahaha
CONGRATS ON 500K + 🌱🌱🌱 KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!
🔥
Idk how you knew that I needed to see this, but thank you.🙌 I'm planting on a 3rd floor balcony, and I'd love to have that modular balcony planter. Please do more videos on growing in containers for small spaces. Particularly, I'd love to know more of your ideas on what grows well in some of these vertical planters. I have an Over-the-balcony planter, a wall planter, and 6 hanging baskets. You gave that wonderful idea about putting peas in the hanging baskets. That's the kind of content I need. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
I requested help for gardening as an apartment dweller. My tomato plants keep dying. A bunch of pea plants died too. I think they got over watered. I have my plants in my tub and I think the shower dripped on them and drowned them.
@@AnalyticalChick Join his Facebook group :) so many great people offering great advice from all areas of the world. Highly recommend. They have already helped me
keep an eye on our channel if you want to see some vertical veg growing on a balcony! we have a lot of content coming up, all grown in balcony containers :)
The shoe rack that was superb WHAT A GREAT IDEA
Under current conditions, I had to swap my archaeology trowel for a gardening one this summer. Still an amateur gardener, but feeling so inspired and joyful after watching your videos! Many thanks!
You got this!
I think the 500k subs is due to the fact that you know what your talkin about...I recently started a raised bed garden for sum veggies and ur the #1 cat I go to for tips and tricks so thank you for sharing ur knowledge with us rookies
Appreciate it brother!
I second that!
I've heard of using the shoe holder as a way to grow plants in a small space. I haven't tried it; but, have been looking for one of those things at thrift stores and will continue to do so once the thrift stores open back up. I've just never felt the need to buy one for shoe storage; because, I don't have that many shoes. I think it's a good idea.
Be careful getting a used one, foot fungus and plants aren't a good mix.
I sometimes see these at pound shops/ dollar stores. That way you can get a new one.
I sometimes find shoe racks at Marshall's, T.J. Max and Home Goods for a good price.
I do tumbler tomatoes in hanging baskets and it works amazing. They love the warmth of a container and the hanging portion makes it easier for me to manage without stakes and trellis.
Yeah suuuuuch a great idea
Epic Gardening thanks! Much easier to move them into sunshine rather then depending on beds.
Do you think the same theory could be applied with pickling cukes or are they gonna be too heavy?
Lindy Huey they aren’t to heavy I’ve tried it before too. What you want to do though is monitor the cucumbers and when they hit the heavy stage make them sling out of panty hose. Or old onion bags and tie that back up to the base of the basket.
Lindy Huey I do heavily suggest lining the pear baskets though to conserve water so you don’t have any dry out scenarios. I typically utilize recycled plastic bags.

The timing of this was perfect. was looking to plant on my apartment patio this week! I was especially looking into the grow bags. Thank you!
I started to watch your channel and my garden got so much better. Thank you
Great job!
Just started growing a large amount of food. Always had little edible treats here and there tucked between the flowers and plants ( blueberries, strawberries, peppers, green onion, white guava, and loquat) but now going to plant raised beds I just purchased. Love your channel. It has been a wealth of knowledge.
Thank you :)
Love the shoe rack idea. I'm definitely going to try it!
This is so helpful, thank you! I would love any advice for growing indoors in an apartment. I unfortunately don’t have access to a patio or any outdoor space. But these ideas are definitely something helpful to experiment with even indoors! I’d never heard of grow bags before.
Same same! No balcony or outdoor space :( Hope you find stuff that works.
Have either of you found solutions? I dont have a balcony either, and so not a bunch of light I can get plants> i really want to start
@@EliB0217 Honestly? Just try with the light that you have! If you've got a window sill that's wide enough you can use some of the planter boxes in this video. if not, you can maybe try a hanging pot in the window, either hung from the ceiling, the curtain rack, or you can get a mobile wardrobe rack and hang plants from there. Depending on how much light you actually do get, there's lots of indoor plants that don't actually need much light. And many herbs that you can easily grow inside (basil is a great one!). Don't be afraid to experiment and just try things. Every 'failed' attempt with a plant will be a lesson you learned and will help you with all the rest of your plants. Go for it!
@@BrookeGlaser Thank you for your response, thats definitely what I needed to hear. Wish you all the best
I just started using grow bags. I love them.
Yes!! Thank you so much, as always, for your clear an informative content. It’s no wonder 499,999 + other people want to see your stuff! I especially appreciated what you touched upon at the end of the video. If you’re passionate about gardening and only have a small space to cultivate, you realistically will not be able to provide 100% of your own food, AND THAT’S OKAY! I think I needed to hear that. Congrats again on 500K!
You are so welcome!
Yess just sat down for lunch and needed something to watch!
Thank you so much for everything you've taught us Kevin. Beginning my journey in gardening has changed my outlook on life, and I appreciate the wealth of knowledge you have shared. Thank you 😊
I put my spinach in a container and so glad I did because it soaks up so many nutrients from the soil!
Planted my ginger yesterday thanks to you!
Wonderful!
Dude the shoe bag! That’s such a good idea.
It really is!
500K hells yeah! We love you brother! ❤️
This is an excellent way to garden if you live in apartments. Love that window planter that fits over the railing. We have two daughters that live in apartments that would love these ideas. Going to share this video with them. Wishing you a fantastic week ♡
LIkewise!
Congratulations Kevin! Gardening saved me during Covid! I learned alot about Gardening and recommend you to all of my friends and prepper channels!
Yay I love container gardening
Kevin came thru for the apartment dwellers! Whoop! I started a garden this season because the trails are closed to public (covid19) and I needed something to pass time, but I missed being close in nature. Well, ya can’t get any closer to nature then digging in the dirt! 😂 Who knew I’d enjoy gardening so much! Video is packed with info and to the point! Thank you and Congrats on the 500k subs 🎉🌟🎊
Here for you all!
Growing anything good this year?
I'm starting gardening this year but I have been watching your videos since last year and thought that all your ideas were too advanced for me, that I'm just starting. So I am really happy that I found this video and the one another one when you started setting grow bags. That is sort of what I am going to be doing so it gives me hope that by at least starting like that I will definitely improve little by little like you! Thank you so much for sharing all your intake from your journey!
so happy to see your channel grow!!
i don't always watch every video because i'm not yet there into growing my own food and i'm more interested in houseplants, but your videos are always informative and there's something for everyone here. congratulations and can't wait for the next milestone
LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoe rack idea. Thinking about hanging that on my fence with different types of lettuce! Thanks!
Some gardening spaces can be really intimidating for beginners so thank you for making videos that are so accessible!!
I have some acreage but I am starting an indoor winter garden this year. I love the fabric grow bags and the way they "air prune" the roots so they don't become rootbound. Now I'm off to find that multi-pocket grow bag. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks Kevin! As always another great video and one we've been waiting for. Us apt folks can only dream of a homestead. But you're right, we can think of this like our practice runs. Congrats on the 500K!. 🌹🌱🌾🍅 You deserve it!
thank you so much - from Mary in Ireland
I noticed CaliKim's smart pot you've got there!! Love watching her channel as well, you guys are really awesome!!
Epic and CaliKim are good for beginners. I like and am subbed to Steven Corbett, but most of his videos are for people more involved than a beginner like me.
great site, just found you today... been thinking about a small patio garden for years : " grow your own greens", lol... I think now you have gotten me started, thank you so much !
That pop up and then straight to business. I like it! 😄
living with my parents, I started to garden and as someone who is the first in the family to try to grow their own garden for tea (huge tea enthusiast) and cooking, I've decided to try it and see what I can do. I've seen all over the internet about what is good soil and what is a good fertilizer and some others have contradicted that. I've had to sow my herbs from seed and I'm waiting for them to germinate (started them directly in their containers on the 12th of April 2021) and the gardening community has just been so kind and so informative! some think for a young man to get into gardening that they are interested in growing pot but that is quite the opposite. so my starting herbs are lemon balm, spearmint, and cilantro. I'm going to be growing them indoors and I think it would be nice for in my room to have some plant life and the smells of the oils cleaning up my room. my soil choices were limited but I was advised that Miracle-Gro's moisture control potting mix is great for the herbs and so I had to get them. the mint i was recommended from bonnie to use the inorganic miracle-gro all-purpose but I have seen that was more expensive than the miracle-gro performance organic edibles mix and according to the site of miracle-gro, the organic one is specifically for veggies and herbs. what herbs I don't know but I guess I will find out. I think what I'm going to do is when it comes to feeding time, I'm going to put in a half dose of what is recommended and if the plants need more ill go a quarter up since from my research these herbs don't need that much feeding for the most part. I don't want to give them too much so they go all outgrowing in size rather than potency but we'll see how this goes. kinda nervous but also kinda excited at the same time. thank you so much for having the idea of a channel for growing veg and herbs and being honest with all of your tips and advice! it's because of people like you that I can make this dream closer than if I were alone!
Thank you so much for sharing what you love. Learning a lot.
So glad!
That shoe rack idea for growing is so creative! I have one I bought for my art supplies instead of shoes lol. Now I'm thinking of buying another one just to grow some herbs and flowers too.
Came across your video two hours ago and subscribed, and kept watching. I've watched at least 8 videos so far and hooked. I just moved into a new apartment and excited. This particular video is quite helpful. Keep em coming and good luck on the new show and the book.
My wife was watching tictok I saw a guy standing outside your yard and said " That's Epic Gardening's. yard. She said yup I follow him you have both of us watching you hahaha.
LOL no way, send me the link!
@@epicgardening I don't Facebook Twitter or Instagram or tic tok for that matter she is asleep I'll see if she can pull it up. It was taken on your property looking out at a gut looking at your plants I thought the guy was crying.
@@epicgardening how do I send you pictures?
Ah no way! I want to see that too!
Omg I want to see that video 😂
Congratulations on over 500 thousand 🌟🚨🥰. I love you content, thanks for being here for us! God bless!
Thanks so much for all the great info! I have never been good with plants, but you are giving me the confidence to try again!!!
These products are so helpful!!! Been wondering how to do gardening without a balcony this year but these are great suggestions.
I always learn something from you, thank you 😀
Love all your ideas! I live in an apartment in Brooklyn, NY and That's my one of my hobbies. Especially, growing your culinary herbs to save some money. Wishing you the very best. Dios te bendiga. In English it means God bless you.
Fave gardening channel on CZcams! Thanks!
omg Kevin has a homestead❤ Wow I cant wait for you to upload content. Lol I've already clicked the bell icon
;)
Where the link Kevin? I can’t find it
Found it 👍🏼
I am growing a lot in my balcony in Istanbul! So hi from the other part of the world! Love your channel!
Your channel is my favorite. Thank you for always making helpful contents! I'm still a beginner.
The shoe rack!! How freakin genius!!!🤓🤓💡💡
Totally inspired to grow lettuce out of a hanging shoe rack 😊
That multi-pocket grow bag looks very cool. I might get one for my son.
Excellent ideas. I have also worked out my terrace garden, and I am growing a lot of veggies and flowers.
So much great info! Thank you for this and all your videos 👍
I'm so glad I found your channel. Thank you for all the tips and tricks and info! I started ordering gardening stuff a couple months ago when I was recovering from surgery and wish I would have waited a little bit. But that's alright. I'm learning a lot now and adjusting my pre-garden plan accordingly.
Glad you're learning!
Congrats on 500k! ❤️ and a tip for the coconut liners...here in north TX it gets hot and windy so they dry out fast. I use a plastic grocery bag with slits cut in the bottoms to fill with soil and set in them, then trim off whatever plastic sticks out over the top. Still gets enough drainage but I can water once a day instead of 3 times since it dries out slower.
Great tip!
Love ur videos!!! Learned a lot from this video as we grow all our plants in containers. Mostly food plants. Thx
This is brilliant!!! Only yesterday I was leaving message requests for more videos like this. Thank you sooo much, you are truly inspiring!
So glad!
Kevin, my horiculture teacher !
Thanks so much for all the fantastic information!! I'm getting started with a snake plant, a basil plant and I might add rosemary and a few more. I really, REALLY enjoy the way you teach to help us understand how to care for the plant better. I'm not very good w/them right now but would love to become much better both for cooking and natural remedies. Thanks again and now I'm off to go check out more of your videos.
Great to hear!
Wow! Your tradescantia zebrina looks amazing! Goals for mine!
Congrats on 500K man. We really appreciate these videos. Keep up the great work!
Glad you like them!
Hey man! that was an epic intro I nearly jumped off my seat! 😂😂😂 Nice idea for small space apartment with balcony.
I've been wanting to start a garden and have been watching your videos to learn. Thanks so much for your videos. Got my first bed ready for planting and waiting for the last frost to plant.
Wonderful!
Congratulations, Kevin! I’ve been watching the number climb... Epic achievement!
Awesome! Thank you Erik!
wow, great video, several different options I hadn't even heard of before
Thank you, this is so helpful. I'm just about to start a balcony garden in London. I have no experience beyond houseplants, my balcony is surrounded by high rise buildings so light is limited and summer is ending so it will probably be a disaster but I'll learn and am really looking forward to it 😊
Congrats on the 500K! Keep up the good work!
Great information. Thanks so much. You're a good teacher.
You give me a lot of advice with your videos.
Thank you
🙂
Greeting from France 👍🥖
Kevin, I recently discovered your channel and I just wanted to say that your videos are amazing! I've watched so many -- they are very informative and helpful for me since I live in an apartment :) I just bought your book to support you. Thanks for doing what you do!
Thank you Dasha!
I like the sit on top and grow bag the best. I definitely would get the grow bag.
I am a new subscriber and have been watching a few videos a day. It’s just getting to be gardening season here.
You are so amazing because you have helped so many people who are starting gardening and are on a balcony. I love that people who don't have a large space can garden from a balcony or terrace. Love your informative videos
So nice of you
Great ideas. Thanks so much. Be well.
Love love love!!! Congrats on 500k!
Thanks!
That last comment on training really resonated with me, can't wait to move out of the city :D
Again, so happy for you! 500,000! Woot woot! 🥳🥳🥳
Thanks so much
There is a reason that you have over 500,000 viewers, you do a great job! I really enjoy your videos and you are very knowledgeable. I recently retired and have more time to garden, both vege and flowers. I love the grow bags! Thanks for the video.
Wow, thank you!

The multipocket bag is superkewl!
Congrats on 500k and the new channel, bud
Great ideas! Thank you for sharing
Supergrats on 500k! Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us.👊
More to come!
I'm a new-ish subscriber, and found you while looking up tips for indoor plants. I have a very finicky maranta leuconeura var. kerchoveana that I've been fighting with for two years and was looking for new ideas on how to get it growing a little better and sure enough I found the info here! What a bonus that you also do small space and balcony gardening! I find gardening is my therapy in the summertime and really keeps me off antidepressants. Plants saved my life! Thank you for all the tips, and tricks for small space gardening. I had some success with tomatoes and strawberries on my 6th floor balcony, so this year I'm being bold and going with tomato, radish, carrot, pea, strawberry and raspberry, as well as a bunch of different flowers. You may or may not be tempting me to go for some lettuce too ;)
Glad to hear this on your maranta! Good luck!
Thx for introducing me to the miracle of grow bags... 😮
VERY neat takes on the shoe racks. The only thing though as you said, make sure you limit to annuals that way you can recompost, remix, cycle through etc the soils. Since you obviously can't mulch or whats not.
Funny how time flys and boom another 500k subbies keep doin ya thang man
Hey, the pop up from behind the plants was a fun intro!
Congrats man!!! Very cool ideas to play with here. Thanks again!
You bet!
I'm a new subscriber. I'm so excited for your channel. I have only watched a couple videos but have already learned so much.
Thankyou for this. I love your channel.
