Pursuit races may not be so exciting on the start line, but there are many more interesting passing situations spread throughout the course. Lately we've been having some difficulty with declining numbers and for those captains intimidated by the start line it is an easy way to encourage boats to get into racing. The coolest thing about the pursuit race is how everybody shows up at the pub at about the same time, I think it generates more income for the club.

Completely agree! It simplifies things and is a great way to get more boats out racing. It's also nice to know how you did as soon as you finish.
