You're an idiot if you think milk just comes from cows. All mammals produce milk but the dairy industry exploits, abuses and rapes cows to get them to produce milk for greedy humans who don't care about what cows have to go through in those situations. Thousands of male calves are killed every day in the dairy industry because they're of "no use". Plant-based MILKS are for compassionate, empathetic people who do not want to support this torture and murder, but of course people who care about their health consume plant-based milks too since dairy is so bad for you and makes you fat, increases your risk of many diseases and disorders, and raises your cholesterol.

I don't work at Starbucks, but in Japan, I've never seen anyone overly customize their drinks. Like, changing the milk or number of shots is about it. No one tries to pick up girls, and names aren't asked because people value their privacy, so no name problems. Nobody would be using their phones at the counter, it's incredibly rude and a waste of other people's time. No one would not understand something as simple as, "do you want me to heat it". I know because I worked at a convenience store. I don't know what's the problem with western Starbucks.

Yes, there are many in school clubs and workplaces. They think they can boss you around because you're an underclassmen or a rookie. Even when it's just a difference of months! Japanese take the whole "senpai" thing very seriously, and you're supposed to talk to them in honorific speech.
Customers are generally pretty polite though. The worst one I met was probably a woman who told me her ramen wasn't hot enough so she wanted the kitchen to heat it up again (at a restaurant)? The store was really busy at that time, and her tone was more like a complaint. We ended up remaking the whole thing for her. Most of the problems I had was with my colleagues at my part time jobs.

We have a saying that "The customer is always right" in the west. The idea is that even if you as a retail employee is polite, if you upset the customer in any way you will loose the customer and lose money for the company. Sense we all like to be heard it can easily turn into a scene too. But there is no consequence for the customer. So they think they can do whatever they want and have no personal responsibility for the transaction. No need to count their own money, answer questions, or know what anything is before they get in line, as the retail employee that's YOUR job. Even if you basically have to have super powers like mind reading and superspeed to get it done. That customer experience you described is heaven because as ridiculous as it was, she had a nice tone and from the sounds of it, didn't make a scene about how incompetent you are to the whole Restaurant. As far as specified orders, I've been told that's because our whole country tends to have more options than normal. So we're actually used to being asked half of those details and sense we're always able to adjust it's not surprising people find the strangest perfect combination for them. I've worked in my fair share of retail and I actually enjoy it, but I get frustrated too because while they get to throw a fit it's my job to pretend their the nicest person in the world while they're cussing me out and then make THEM feel better. But that's actually my favorite part. Because I'm really good at it and they usually end up getting what they want but with a sheepish apology.

Looked back at the table and him and his kids had eaten everything. Management still gave him the refund 🙄

Yeah one time we had a rush and this couple comes in and orders two large blended drinks. Anyway blended drinks take a lot of time to make so its kinda the worst in a rush, so we make them but obviously it takes longer than usual bc we are busy. The girl takes a big sip of it and cuts off the customer at he counter and is like “this is so bad. I didn’t realize there were chunks of peanut in it....I’ve had it so many times before” so I’m like “okay I can reblend it for you so it’s smoother if you want” and she goes “no I’ll just take a muffin in exchange”
    Ok

On the contrary, when the child is willing to order I'll address them directly even if their parents didn't prompt them to say it themselves. I'll look to the parent for confirmation if the item is huge or mostly junkfood, but kids are fully capable of saying what they want and should be offered the opportunity to practice that.
It pissed me off when two perfectly polite kids told me exactly what they wanted and their mother, who spent the whole time on the phone, contradicted them at the last minute with something they clearly didn't want. If a parent wants to stand back and actively encourage their kids to order I'm in full support of it even if it takes a moment for them to find their words.

Oh my GOD, people who can't enunciate their names. I work at a restaurant, but we start taking names down when we run out of tables, so we can keep track of who's waiting for a table. And some people get really offended when you can't work out what their name is.
    Tips:
-If you're in a group, choose the name that's EASIEST to say clearly
-Speak loudly and enunciate - some of us have bad hearing. And even if we don't, remember that "just loud enough for yourself to hear" isn't actually loud enough for anyone ELSE to hear.
-If your name is foreign, SPELL IT.
-Don't get offended if we spell your name wrong. We don't know you, it might happen.
-If we ask you to spell your name, please do it SLOWLY, loudly and clearly. If we're asking you to spell something that seems really simple, it's for one of two reasons; either someone else had the exact same name and we're trying to differentiate them from you (because chances are you'll ONLY hear your name, and not listen to what the actual order is), or that's a sign that we could not HEAR you, which means you need to adjust your speaking volume and speed.
