- Charcoal Grill vs. Pellet Grill! A big time question when it comes to the BBQ World, and today we try answering it! We're taking our Weber Kettle and our Traeger IronWood 650 to see if we can figure out which one cooks steaks BETTER! The catch? I'll be trying both steaks blindfolded so I won't be able to see which one is which! What type of grill do you use? Do you prefer charcoal or pellets? Stick around and find out what we think!

Pellet Grill or Charcoal Grill? Which one are y'all going with?!
Charcoal all day baby. The freedom to burn what coals I want + being able to coonass me some woodchips, do some weird smoke technique I just found out about... I can't get away from the freedom of a classic coal pit!
@@46-Skadoo I'm all about the charcoal too!
Kamdo joe
I just got a Traeger and I’ve cooked 3 things on it, all were disappointing! Nothing compares to a charcoal grill
I agree nothing compares! I don’t mind my Traeger though, it’s good for some stuff in my opinion!
Such an amazing family! Love these videos every week!
We love you big dog!
That cutting board was soaked! JUICY!!!! Looked amazing and love your family!
We love ole Big Luke as well buddy!!
"with the glasses off alone I can hardly see" ahhah this man is a gem! Awesome video brother
Haha! My eyesight is so bad. Thank you very much my man
Awesome video! Beautiful family. Thanks for the comparison.
Thanks a whole bunch for tuning in!!
Beautiful family you have! TY for the video.
I’m beyond blessed! Thank you so much!
Lolol... "Add another Alonzo in there" 🤙. Top form brotha! Great vid!
Haha! I appreciate you my dude!
Thanks for this video, this is the comparison that I”m looking for. I have time on my side and I am all about the flavour. 🍻
I’m with you there! As long as you’ve got the time over direct coals or lump is always the winner!
I always prefer meat cooked over charcoal....but I have to say, I was extremely surprised by the steak on the pellet grill they tasted different, but both equally delicious!
I agree with you! I have already talked to a few people and they asked if it was easy to tell while blindfolded! The honesty answer is no! They were both so delicious!
Yeah if someone served me the one on the pellet grill and said it was over charcoal I might not question it. BUT the key is to get your pellet grill as hot as possible to mimic that charred texture as best as possible.
cool vids!! It could be cool to see difference between the snake method and the slow&sear.
That’s a great idea! Because not everyone has the Slow ‘N Sear!
Love a good Denver cut, you killed it!!
Impressive cut! Tasted so amazing!!
Awesome comparison, I've cooked on pellet grills but have never owned one. I feel you on the convenience aspect after a long day of work. I've cooked many steaks on my Blackstone for that reason. Steaks look amazing!
They were very good brotha! The Blackstone is killer too! I need to get a video on mine real soon
Great helpers brotha, my daughter loves helping me too
The best helpers in the world. I love them so much! Glad you get to enjoy it with yours as well brother!
Good video 👍🏽
Thanks so much!
Try this test with charcoal pellets for us please
enjoyed the video but as a pellet guy i wouldn't use it at full whack like that i think a nice gentle reverse sear would have made it a little better, and rest a bit longer before cutting!! all the juice on the board is flavour lost! love the vids glad i found your channel!
Hey brotha! Thanks for the comment! They rested for a long while before we cut into them. Over 15 minutes! In between shots it’s tough to transition into the next one quickly, we have to move cameras and everything so we rest without even intending to sometimes 😂
Appreciate you being here! Welcome!
you eat your steak cold?
I’ve been wondering if I should get a pellet grill myself but worth I won’t use the charcoal grill anymore if I did. Both steaks looked awesome!
Being able to fire it up to high heat and sear them and still get some smoke flavor is super nice! I was beyond impressed with how good the steak was on a hot and fast cook!
Great comparison. I’d like to see the same comparison for ribs and/or chicken.
Low and Slow on both of them? What would you like to see?
Low and slow ribs would be a good comparison between the two. Charcoal with wood chunks vs pellets. Thanks
I got you!
This is a great idea! I always feel like ribs are better over charcoal but we’ve made a lot of great chicken on pellet smokers so trying these things and comparing them side by side always gives us a new perspective. Can’t wait to try it
First video I've seen if yours. Have you tried the charcoal pellets in your pellet grill to see if it can match the charcoal grill flavor? Thanks for the one cut. Kid crying wasn't a big deal!
Still need to get that Recteq 380 bullseye! Can smoke it low and crank it up to riot mode at 750degress to sear it off!!! Yum!
Soon brotha soon! Just added another smoker to my arsenal. You’ll see it soon!
So I'd like to see you try your hand at a crawfish/shrimp boil! Sack Crawfish may be a little hard to come by in Corpus, so I'll allow some quality shrimps! Id also like to see how your rubs do on seafood! Could make for a cool vid!
Btw, If you do crawfish they gotta be live and you gotta do a purge on em! Mesaage me if you decide to do this vid and need any help on the prep side 🤙
Absolutely! That’ll be a good video! I’ll get it going 100% my brotha!
Ooh-wee! That'll be a fun one! Looking forward to what you come up with and if the wifey/kiddos are game for some mudbugs 🤣!!!
Charcoal grill is a winner in my book! 💪🏻
I agree my man! Like I’ve said a few times though, definitely impressed with the Traeger!
What’s your take on the Denver cut? First time I’m hearing of it. Looks amazing.
Truly, it was AMAZING! Almost like a NY Strip but a Ribeye at the same time? Legit is one of my favorite cuts now! Highly recommended!
Have you ever used a PK grill?
I haven’t! I want to try one out though!
I have one man, I’m about to order the grill gates for it. Let me know whenever you want to use it.
@@joey77500 I just might have to take you up on that offer brotha!
Anytime man just let me know
Cant beat the charcoal taste
No you can’t! The Traeger is nice, but it cannot stand a chance if I’m being honest!
@@GulfCoastSmoke yea i regret getting the z grill pellet grill... cudda just saved cash and go for a cheaper propane grill 😢
I think if you got a Weber Kettle you’d be extremely happy! I love mine!
“Kisses that meat” 9:35
Lol 😂😂😂
Bro I just did a cook with my new 1300 timberland and man so disappointing vs my weber deluxe.
No comparison brotha. Charcoal all the way IMO
@@GulfCoastSmoke I was doing some research and I think we have some hope. I bought Traeger Pellets, and from what I'm researching they are the worst onces. Have you tried other brands like B&B, Lumberjack, and Kingsford just to name a few?
@@HabibiGolf I have, yes! I actually use the B&B pellets!
@@GulfCoastSmoke I'm hoping the Lumberjack or B&B pellets help a bit, or the Traeger investment was a waste.
Keep me posted!
Weber will last ...simple design...I have kettles from the 70s ..80s..and 90s...
It's like driving a car i like manual transmission..more connection with. Car
Pellet is like driving a automatic
Great vid!
I absolutely love my Kettle! Use it multiple times per week!
Pellet grills remind me of my little sisters easy bake oven 😆
That is so awesome! 😎😎😎
What an underated comment!
@@mattc825 I'm using that lol
Song?
I’m not sure, but I’ll go back and look! Listening again, damn that’s a good song lol
Let me know btw great video it helped me pick what grill to get
You might have just talked me out of a pellet grill
Since it's been a bit since I posted this video I'll give you a little update and honest opinion. The Weber is my choice 9/10 times. The only time I'd use the Traeger is on a long cook that I can't stay at home for. Honestly, my wife and I don't really like the flavor that the Traeger gives off on pork that much. It's not terrible, but it's a little off to us. We can handle it for chicken and beef all day, though. The convenience of it is great, but the flavor lacks to me. That being said, I'll continue using it and cooking on it on our channel for sure! I think it's good to have a variety of cookers for what we are doing.
@@GulfCoastSmoke Thank you! I mostly bbq pork, which pretty much seals the deal. Plus I live in the rainy UK, I don't think I'll invest in something so expensive if I'm going to have to use both in the longrun, and that rarely happens anyway because of the weather. Thanks again.
Glad I could help!
Before the test even starts.. I see a problem already.. here will be biased due to the smell of charcoal cooked vs pellet.., idk anything about pellet but I’m sure charcoal is obvious to anyone with a sense of smell lol
That’s kind of the whole point. Lol. There are obvious differences between them. Blindfold or not just about anyone can tell what was cooked with a pellet grill and it doesn’t even almost compare.
@@GulfCoastSmoke so why blind fold.. if u know what it will be by smell.. why do it.. it’s a waste
I wasn’t able to tell by the smell. Lol. I was able to tell by the texture and the flavor
@@GulfCoastSmoke at the end yes. That was the result. I’m guessing the smell wasn’t very strong is why u couldn’t tell… jsut a guess..since it was 1 piece vs a whole cut,
We’ve never seen your hair before!
Hahaha! I came home from work and we got right into it 😂😂 sorry about that lol
Never apologize for your kids making noise. All too soon you will wish they were still there instead of off living their life.
I appreciate that, brother! Thanks for putting it into perspective! They are my everything
OMG. You have some really cute daughters there. My first time seeing your videos. Thanks.
Please rest your meat before cutting. Beyond that good video
Funny part is they rested over 10 minutes. Whether you wanna believe it or not, just think about it logically. We had all of our cameras and lighting outside, then brought it all inside, set up the tripod and shot the ending. Not always what it seems just because you saw lots of juice!
@@GulfCoastSmoke it's not just the juice it's the uneven pink and gray. Normally rest about 10 mins per 1/8 of inch. Will give you even pink
If you look when I was slicing it wasn’t uneven or gray. That came from putting the slices on the cutting board and taking pictures for a while trying to get a good one for a thumbnail and it oxidizing.
Regardless, my point is I understand resting is the way to go and a CZcams video doesn’t show every aspect of what we do!
dude you shouldnt cover your nose lmao it affects the taste 😂😂😂 7:11
It was just a mask so I couldn’t see. I could fully breathe and taste the steak perfectly 👍🏼
you should rest the steak b4 cutting... juice wasted sir.
His mouth kinda looks like Clutch Cargo....
You want a good steak, go propane. I’ve never had a bad steak in one.
That’s the one type of cooker I don’t own! I should get one though!
@@GulfCoastSmoke I have a 4 burner Weber gas grill. LOVE IT. Now I know why people love them so much. I’ve cooked ribs on it and they were one of my best ribs I’ve ever made.
I definitely need to try getting my hands on one. Didn’t Weber just drop some new ones?
@@GulfCoastSmoke yes. Called SMART SERIES GRILLS. $1,300 they are. That’s for a 4 burner one
I just bought a new smoker this week that you’ll see on the channel soon. I’ll go after that next!
Ok…don’t want to sound like a butt…but the concept of having your wife spin a rack was kinda…for lack of a better word…”stupid”? If you’re blindfolded…why would she need to spin the wheel?!? How would SHE know which one she gave you? 🤔 Don’t know if you thought that one thru!!😂 Thanks tho!
Charcoal is better but alot more work
Agreed! Can’t beat the convenience at all!
