    this is great! I only have a couple of nitpicks to give about your build:
    1. The heavy oil cracking goes straight into light oil cracking, and will not feed into light oil storage tank at all, as there are pumps in the way. This can allow for a backup of petroleum with no light oil to use. Consider sending the oil straight into light oil tank so that the byproducts can be properly balanced. Which brings me to my second point.
    2. You can set easier conditions for when the pumps will work! Have the heavy oil overflow pump connected to heavy oil tank and set to "on if heavy oil > 15k" This allows your lubricant tank to fill up just fine, as you said, lubricant can suddenly be drained by blue belts. Have light oil overflow pump connected to light oil tank only (only need 1 pump) and set to "on if light oil > 15k" This also allows you to have backup in case you spend a lot on light oil in solid fuel AND rocket fuel (since that's a thing now). If you do the first thing I pointed out, this will ensure a proper balance of oils and petro are being used.

    One very important thing about solid fuel (I learned this the hard way yesterday :D)..
    You will need to seperate your coal lines into coal as an ingredient and coal to burn. The coal used in science and as an ingredient.. Like in plastic, can NOT be replaced by and/or mixed with solid fuel. It has to be pure coal.
    But any coal that is burned.. So in smelters or power generator plants.. Can be mixed with and/or totally replaced with solid fuel.
    I initially just mixed solid fuel with my existing coal lines.. Then had to clean everything up as solid fuel can not be used as a coal replacement in ingredients.

    Petroleum gas is not a gas, it is a liquid. Gas is short for gasoline. Petroleum gets shortened to petrol in UK English. Gasoline gets shortened to gas in US English.

      That is my next thing tomorrow (maybe tonight :D).. Construction Robots. I am using the 'Nanobots: Early Bots' mod.. But it is time to migrate to normal bots now.. Or to integrate Early Bots into the logistics network. This is my first time to this stage (just bought Factorio at 1.0 release).

    @89334726 Před rokem

    So which module should I use early?

  • @JohnnyHughes1
    @JohnnyHughes1 Před 3 lety +3

    So.. The absolute hardest part of advanced oil is it has to be balanced. If any one of the 3 inputs gets full (Petroleum Gas, Heavy Oil, or Light Oil) it will shut down the refineries.
    That is why learning how to use the Constant Combinator, Hooking it up via a red wire to both tank level and the pump is critical. I spent 3 or 4 hours learning how all this worked yesterday.
    In the end, I basically had a very similar system to what you designed for the intermediate stage.. Except I added in a heavy oil tank too. I also have overflow protection for both Heavy Oil and Petroleum Gas to make Solid Fuel. This should usually not happen, but If there is a sudden increase in tank levels to close to maximum, it starts sending the item to temporarily make sold fuel and lower the tank level rather than turning off all the refineries.

    • @MekamiEye
      @MekamiEye Před 3 lety +1

      I know this is a month later, but if you're still having some light issues, you can read the comment I posted on this same video. This will help simplify things in the future for you (no need for combinators, although, good on ya for learning that.)

  • @MightyOtterr

    I am confused. I built this near identically in my world and I am barely getting any light oil. Maybe 4 of the plants get enough light oil to make solid fuel. Any ideas would be great.

    I do not know why heavy oil constantly requires me to click change recipe just to get it to not stall out so I can get Lubricant from my Chomical plant. Basic oil (petroleum) does not need constant attention it works by itself fine. What is the difference ?
