Here's another small collection of odd things that were datamined from NiGHTS, as well as a strange discovery from an old patent filed by SEGA back in the 1990's.

This has been such a fascinating series. I don't know the first thing about data mining processes, but it just blows my mind that all of this unused content is just sitting around, hidden within the game files. I love video games and this has given me a whole new level of appreciation for game developers and data miners.
Don't worry, we'll just spend 30 years speculating about all of this, FINALLY come as close as we'll ever get to having definitive answers, and then Yuji Naka will just casually confirm everything on Twitter.

It reminds me of a magic mirror. In fiction, they are usually used to predict the future or to gain wisdom. Maybe a character was using it to investigate that desert.
You know, in the Delight City level from Jod there are red and blue pillars that NiGHTS grabs and swings around like this czcams.com/video/_S-IWBDPLeY/video.html Maybe the blue and green pillars would have a similar function?
-maybe Jackle had either an attack or a stage prop that is supposed to look like a portal to somewhere else
-the NIGHTS mining scene is so good

Those pillars look like electrical rods, but they look so out of place in a spot like Spring Garden. Was the asset fixed only to be there? Seems like it would belong in (?)Stick Canyon or a more man-made area to me.
I gotta give the miners props; they sure do like to keep you on your feet while you're editing, Digi. :p

It was in the common objects file. The file where objects like the bumpers and ideya palace are in. Those can appear in any level.

Jackle is an interesting one lore wise as kind of the final step before Reala and Nights. Cool to see there's more hidden data on him
Jackle *and* Puffy are the final step before Reala and NiGHTS.
They both are humanoid but imperfect, and have the jester hat.

The pillars make me think you swing around them as fast as you can. And if it's like the bonus ball, if you reach the top quick enough, you get the bonus. Go too slow, you let go and lose the bonus. At least that was the first thing I thought of.
Swing on this pole as a boost speed up .
A way to interact with the pole is swinging around it. The faster you swing into it, the more rotations. More rotations, more points. Just an idea~
I wonder if there is anything unused in the Puffy's data that can give us clues about what is the point of that weird thing that falls out of Puffy's closet.
This game feels so mysterious even down to the characters and their actions. I guess that’s why I love nights so much. The unknown also adds more the the dream aspect of the game.

I'm kinda glad you talked about this stuff. I thought the pillar things would've been obstacles and if I had ever gotten the game with that in it, I probably would've tried to loop it some more instead of realizing it was a sorta trophy. As for the mountain/desert picture thing, my theory is probably because of how Jackle is supposedly symbolic of adulthood and kids without a plan for the future or seeing adults being miserable probably have a sorta grim outlook for the future.
Always awesome to see a new vid from you my dude! These mysterious discoveries are great, makes you wonder and wonder what might have been intended for such random assets. Great fun :)

It's always nice seeing these update videos. Of course, a lot of it is just blind speculation, but still, I don't think I've seen a game this frequently documented before. There are probably thousands of games that are littered with secrets nobody knows about because nobody bothers to look into it let alone publicize and spark discussion over.
It's given me a deeper appreciation for NiGHTS that I never expected to have. I don't know how much is left or if JoD has anything interesting in it, but who know? I'd love to learn more about these games and how they were made.

A column to spin by as NiGHTS, you fly toward it, NiGHTS fly in circle around it and you can launch yourself into the air with a boost from it.

Out there idea but what if the "Pillar" is actually a gate of some sort? You have to come at it with a high enough link, the number determined by the number of rings floating around it, in order to either get some sort of bonus out of it or worst yet pass through it at all. Requiring you to instead take a slower route around it that had less point opportunities. Unlikely as this idea is, if this was I could see it getting removed, it'd kill the pace of any level it's put in. Especially if you were playing a stage for the first time and weren't doing too good at keeping a link up. Even worse it could potentially soft lock a level, only way through is blocked by one of these, but you emptied out the level behind you and now can't build up a link no matter what, requiring a restart.
Jackle's unused asset makes me think of a crystal ball. Perhaps the plan before it was scrapped was other images to be made showing other levels, or even other locations that aren't levels, to imply Jackle is able to divine locations in either other dreams, be it of the two playable children or perhaps even other people, or even wilder, places in the waking world.
Nights into Dreams is a treasure trove of unused assets! Also, Jackle♥️
If that "huge" texture in Frozen Bell IS a texture, it's not actually for an object that big, it's just that the texture is unwrapped because it was never mapped to a model. I can't say for sure, but it's likely that object is a mistakenly placed plane, and that texture is probably just the first texture in Frozen Bell so that's what it loads.

Honestly, out of all the things presented in this video, I found the patent for the A-Life system the most fascinating one of the bunch, I'll try reading it tomorrow since it's 2AM and I need to to go bed.

You know, i just noticed something, let me start saying i have never played this game, I am just watching because i got hooked to the series of documentaries while researching for a game i am makking myself.
In minute 9:21 there's a guillotine in the back of Jackles arena, and i remembered an unused animation where NiGHTS seems to be specially scared where pulliung out the head from something, including the spin of his head. So here comes the theory: This animation was meant to happen in this arena if you stomped agains the guillotine, and this animation plus the shoked face expression was meant to be used toguether. This was probably too blody for a game and was stripped out for being so violent, and that explains the entire set of assets going unused toguether.
Talking about that, i have another theory of 2 unused assets that could be connected. This green pole that was replaced by a ball when you make some long collection of objects, i first tougt it looked like those poles that NiGHTS spins around when collecting stuff, but then i remembered the unused frog leam animation and wondered if it they was something that was meant to be used toghether, but the development team was unable to sync in real time, su they just replaced it by a simple collectible
about the desert backgrund, what size is this mesh object? one usual way to create skyboxes is purring a giant box or sphere around the scenario, so imagine the entire area is inside of the sphere mesh
Maybe the buildings were Elliot and Claris's houses respectively?
I have a quick question. Has anyone datamined that NiGHTS into Dream DLC stage from Sonic Lost World? The reason I ask this is because I felt as if something or someone was missing from that stage. All of the Nightmarens that NiGHTS faced in original game are featured in the stage while being paired with a member of the Deadly Six. As far as I can remember, Reala isn't featured in the stage which really shocked me due to how important he is to the series because all other major characters are there except for him so I've always wondered, if he was originally planned to be in the stage but was then cut or they weren't able to fit him for some reason.
Reala does appear in the Nightmare Zone. Though he only makes a cameo in it. He is the one that opens portals to the boss battles during the Windy Hill Zone segments. I'm pretty sure you can find screenshots showing Reala in the Nightmare Zone in the NiGHTS wiki.
@@dreamdragon2728 Omg, I had no idea. People have a really good eye cause I didn't see him at all. Still, I find it weird that he's just a cameo and not something more. I'll always wonder if Reala was suppose to have a bigger role in the stage but it was cut for some reason.

I think the unused pilar might have been something nights flew around maybe for when the camera switched but I’m not sure

Wait, about the crossing the NPC characters to make a different creature, wasn't that a thing that happened in the comic?
The NPCs that you are talking about are the Nightopians? If so yeah, that happened in the comics but you can also cross them with the Nightmarens in the games. They are called "Mepians"
@@dreamdragon2728 Yeah, them but I also meant Nightmarens as NPCs too. I knew the names but not how to spell them. The video gave me the impression that it wasn't an mechanic in the game. Thanks for the correction.
ANY ideas how to swap 3d model of rela with nights? since the character is already playable in versus its shouldnt be so hard to swap them? i tried to rename the reala into nights DAT directly but the game craches, on steam
Does anyone know what Jackle says after he is defeated in the game? Also for Reala, he says something like "There is no NiGHTS" at the beginning, but I can't understand what he says at the end after the final hit?
They're all speaking a dream language made up for the game. We don't know about Jackle, but Reala says "Beadichinoa, NiGHTS!" which means "Come on, NiGHTS!" and I've not heard anything for sure about what he says when you defeat him but I heard speculation that it was something like "NiGHTS, well done"
Edit: on a funny side note there's a file somewhere of Jackle saying "Tsupekku!" which is dream language for "Damn it!"
