Lol, thanks, dude. Yeah, it does feel nice to be talking about brand new NiGHTS discoveries even after all these years. It's one of the games that keeps on giving, lol. Maybe i'll make another video depending on what other developments are made. We'll see.

DiGi I can tell what the Tarot cards are.
The third Tarot card is The Emperor. He's sitting down on a purple throne and holding a scepter up in his right hand with a ball at the top, Just like the The Emperor. Quite a few of the cards are just person on a throne holding something but the posing and body language matches Emperor. The Empress holds hers up more enthusiastically and is lounging instead of sitting upright so I'm certain it's Emperor.
I'm very sure that the fourth card is The Moon. Despite their being no crawfish or moon involved, the real major focus of The Moon card is the long winding path into the horizon that seems like it goes forever. The strange figure in it is also clearly pointing in the direction of the seemingly endless road and it's right before the Sun. So I'm completely positive that's it.
The last card is by far the hardest one but I would bet good money that it's The Lovers. Jackal is standing in a garden reaching to pick a heart shaped fruit with a devious smile. The Lovers depicts Adam and Eve before they eat the apple of enlightenment, and join and worship Satan in The Devil card. The thing is that Jackal's card is flipped like a playing card, which seems like a weird choice until you realize it's a reflection, and that he does not have a "Lover" with him like Eve. Just like Narcissus from the Greek myth, who fell in love with his reflection in the water below him, he has fallen completely in love with himself.
Also, I can't belive you guys haven't figured out the Nightopians yet. It's so interesting to me because I can tell there's so many good game design lessons to be had in them and how they sort of utterly fail to be an enjoyable and interactable part of the game despite having so much care behind them, yet, we don't even know what those lessons are. I hope it's fully deconstructed someday.
Looking at both the Major and Minor Arcanas... The first unknown one is very likely The Emperor indeed. It has the most in common with it.
The second unknown one, I think it could actually be a Minor Arcana card, Eight of Cups. While there are no cups present, there are 8 rings of alternating colors in the background and the Eight of Cups usually depicts a person setting off to walk into the distance.
The last one, the more I think about it, I'm pretty sure it's The World. The card's art is often depicts a person standing in the middle, surrounded by a wreath and with various images in the 4 corners of the card. Very similar setup as what it has going on it.
@@Lagbeard Eh, I disagree. I think it would be too bizarre for a single Minor Arcana card to be with the major arcana cards while being right next to The Sun and sharing the core meaning of The Moon.
The amount of hue changes in the background is a cool observation but when you start counting small things like that it’s hard for them to stand up to stuff like the 6 bright, contrasting clouds that are much more apparent.
The man does look somewhat similar to some of the source material for 8 of Cups but his body language doesn’t strike me as sorrowful, since he is pointing forward towards his goal.
I don’t think it’s possible for the final one to be a wreath because the left side of it looks so clearly like a tree trunk with fruit growing above it and it lacks any of the symbolism that makes The World what it is, like him holding two staffs, and the Angel, Eagle, Bull, and Lion or anything like that.
The image of deviously reaching for a love themed fruit from a tree is just so indicative of the tree of knowledge that it’s hard to ignore.
But if I’m wrong somehow and it’s anything else I think it would have to maybe be The High Priestess due to the tree being like a pillar and the theme of duality from it being flipped and mirrored, but I don’t think so.
idk tho with the last one bc wouldn’t a lovers card need two people in one image as opposed to one reflecting they other? i’m not entirely educated tho so i could be wrong
@@theetaurus1832 Well I did mention that. It's the one thing against it but like I said the reflection does make "two" people appear in the card, which is just like the fable of Narcissus. No other arcana comes remotely close to being more similar in my opinion
Oh man, all that stuff about the Halloween stage is too cool! I've always loved how late 90s/2000s SEGA/Sonic Team did their Halloween aesthetics in their games, so to see that there was a planned stage complete with music to go with the costumes has me over the moon! The pian Halloween outfit is adorable!
Same, I so wish they would have finished that Halloween theme stage! It probably would have become a tradition for me to play each year! I also always liked the Sonic/Phantasy Star Online Halloween themes! NiGHTS deserved more love/attention than it got but at least we still got a good PC port of it!
in regard to the issue with the blue circle texture on jackle's cape, it is a problem with how they are using the old model's UVs on the new model. Both of the capes are using the same texture, they could have just stretched the UV map to make it fit the un-worn cape. Also notice that they moved the location of the blue circle texture from below the cape to the left side. If they didnt move it, it would have been visible on his cape while wearing it.
Depending on how they made the texture in the first place, if they did a texture baking method they could have baked the cape texture on top of the blue circle, and then the inside of jackle's cuffs would have been tan

I love how the beta character models almost look more like HD versions of the Saturn models, while the final's are more like the renders
Saturn only just started to be hacked(for it to boot to a black screen) a few years ago. Apparently it has very complex hardware that made development for it hard af, and nigh impossible without the API manual
One day society will figure out how to successfully hack the Saturn and on that day Pandora's Box will open.

can't 100% confirm it but the middle card appears to be "The fool"/"The Jester" tarot card (depending who's tarot card set your playing with, as names and images have been changes over the years and not every set of tarot cards are the same unless produced by the same company.)

My assumptions may be wrong, but personally I see it like this (I apologize for my English, I'm not so good in it.):
the chariot, the tower, strength (initially I perceived this card as a "The Hierophant", but the purple animal behind the Jackle reminded me and the "Strength" card, where such an animal is present) , the fool (looking at this image, it is very much like a thorny path for which you need to walk), the sun and ... lovers?
The last card for me is still unclear, and looking at the little heart, over the head of the Jackle, I have an impression: what card he can be like.
Well, the most delusional, which could come to my head. After reading each card in turn, I see it like:
"The player was on the way with danger. It was already powerless to confrontation, having spent his strength. Player takes on the weakness of the enemy, and uses this in his favor to the path of victory."
Hidden Nights content, I'm here for it
What if that big head NiGHTs is something as simple as a scrapped big head code? Possible that having that code on caused some issue with the other transformations like the drill dash, mermaid, etc that they could not fix in time. Perhaps even an issue as simple as it just looking weird and not up to their standards.
Hopefully someday if datamining goes better, we'll be able to find more stuff regarding Selph if we haven't already.
To me Selph's one of the most interesting concepts in NiGHTS' mythos, even if they were cut for sake of keeping the game's story concise. Would be awesome to see them return in a possible future entry. A man can dream, as they say.

I was thinking Magician, Wheel of Fortune, and The Fool, though I'll admit my guess on WoF is shakey at best
Makes me wonder if Yuji Naka intended on doing a Halloween Nights in the same fashion as Christmas nights. Christmas nights always felt special. And having the game change on holidays was so cool.
Yeah, it's what made it extra special and I wish they would have gone all-out with that idea (like with that hidden Halloween theme). Heck, if they would have changed themes every month or holiday, that would have been amazing for replay value!

NiGHTS is one of the most wonderful memories of my childhood and seeing this gives me hope in humanity ❤
God it is so nice to see a NiGHTS community so dedicated. NiGHTS was always a fun mystery to me after seeing it in the Sonic Adventure games and Billy Hatcher on gamecube as a child. I eventually downloaded and played some NiGHTS fan games and once I got older and learned how to emulate, I finally emulated the Saturn version at a very poor framerate on an old laptop lol. But I was so happy to finally be able to play the game that had mystified and enamored my childhood self for years! I eventually imported the PS2 version, but was kind of mad that the HD remaster got announced mere months after doing so lol. Still, I later got journey of dreams and eventually got my own Saturn JUST to play NiGHTS on it! Which I’m very thankful for, as it opened me to the Saturn in general and now I have tons of great games for a very underrated system!

The RC NiGHTS toy is freaking adorable.
The side profile of "Mecha NiGHTS" looks very similar to the simplified boss medal for Self. What if the reason that the toy was removed is because it is Self's model, with Self being a Metal Sonic kind of variant of NiGHTS? The small sprites match up as well and may be based on an older model. It's interesting that the file is found in the same area that the Reala boss fight is in.
This is amazing stuff! I hope to see way more in the future :)

I remember seeing this happen in a NiGHTS I'm in and seeing all the progress of new and interesting that was found over time, was really interesting to the whole thing and I'm glad it finally happen, better late than never really. ^^

Seeing an artist I always thought was cool in a video from a CZcamsr I always thought was cool is a surreal sight
I feel like the music at 8:51 would be for the Halloween boss fight rather than the dream stage. It has that up tempo rhythm that conveys a sense of urgency, similar to Puffy's theme when it speeds up or Robotnik's from Christmas NiGHTS.
Just a note on jackles cape… no, what they did was utilise the realestate area of the map more efficiently for the cuffs. They were probably going to remap the missing area of the cape with the base opaque cream coloured area in other areas of the cape. It was common practice.
Love that this is now a thing, about time too! Fantastic in depth look of those treasures DiGi (Mecha NiGHTS is way past cool). Had a great time checking through the files on the website aswell, so hard to believe so much interesting treasure has just been right there all these years 🥵, all this brings me hope for eventual modding for this game someday ( I see you UV NiGHTS/TRiPPY😏)
Man, I wish they would have finished the Halloween themed level! I didn't even know that they had different outfits for October though! I'll have to try to remember to check that out next year.

Kinda fascinating to be getting new discoveries on this game after so many years, guess people really focus just on Sonic when it comes to digging for info.

The Hierophant and Fool cards are at the center. The last card could be The Star,... or Jack of Hearts... the latter of which wouldn't belong with the rest. So that one is really difficult.
The Hierophant has the staff and papal and does not appear to be sitting (Emperor ALWAYS sits). The Fool is on a journey, pointing to the road, as if asking for directions. I had to stand back from my screen to see it. The last one could be a reflective surface in a pool. There are two hearts, (cups are hearts in tarot cards) which could line up with The Star. If this is NiGHT's or Claris' fortune, then it would make sense. Or it could all just be an oversight and it's a playing card lol
If it was Claris', all the reason why Death would make more sense than The Chariot as Death represents personal transformation. Though if it were NiGHTS' then The Chariot would make more sense, due to their headstrong attitude. Or maybe it's actually both _for_ both, with the Death aspect for Claris and the Chariot attribute for NiGHTS.
My theories on Jackle's tarot cards!
1 (The Chariot)
2 (The Tower)
3 The Emperor - This one was tough, and I was also considering the magician. It'd help if the text on this card could be deciphered, though when flipped the red text at the top seems to start with an E and end with an R, and I can fit the M P E in it too. The Emperor is classically depicted sitting on a throne, raising a scepter in one hand. The Magician will often have one of each of the suits (wants, pentacles, swords, cups) with them on a table, also raising a scepter. Since this guy doesn't have those, and seems gleeful-- (which I guess could be because they're in a position of power, though this isn't the defining characteristic of the Emperor's actual meaning)-- and has a big important hat, I'm putting my guess on that.
4 The Hermit - I think that blue checkered structure is a road, and not a tower. Seems to have a little mole-like figure at the bottom in a tan cloak, holding a candle. The hermit is also often depicted wearing a cloak and holding a lantern. This one seems like a dead ringer.
5 (The Sun)
6 A Card Back - This was the toughest to decipher. I just realized that black shape in the middle is a figure with a hand raised on the left and a little circular head on top, grinning wide. It bisects at the middle, and is mirrored upside down. This mirroring is what makes me think this was intended for the back of a card, and they just didn't end up flipping the bottom half horizontally somewhere along its journey to being scrapped. Tarot cards often have a 4-way symmetrical back so that you can't tell if it's upright or reversed when face down. No major arcana except the lovers has two characters on it in equal compositional weight, but it doesn't seem to look particularly lovers-like. The lovers are two separate people. Also, all the other cards has some sort of text on them while this one alone does not.
EDIT: Actually just found out this card set does have a card back design that wasn't in this video! I guess my guess for the last one is.. the fool? At first I thought the upside down head was a little animal running alongside it, which would have definitely pointed to it being the fool. No clue. Maybe it's just an unfinished something that doesn't correlate to any of the major arcana, or it was a scrapped idea for a non-tarot general Jackle card!
The key on the back of Mecha NiGHTS makes it pretty obvious that it's supposed to be like one of those metal wind-up toys from the 40's and 50's. Very "art deco future".

If I had to hazard some guesses on the tarot cards, the middle orange card is probably Hierophant (fancy hat + staff). Far right may be intended to be a card back that didn't get used? It looks like a traditional playing card design rather than a tarot. That could by extension make it the King of Cups since cups are the equivalent to the heart suit. My best guess on the blue one is that it's supposed to be the Moon since it's the only tarot card depicted with a road, though the abstract design makes it hard to say for sure. It would make sense given that there's a Sun card in the data too.
As others have mentioned, the blue circle being visible is just a UV issue, as the cape color surrounding it is simply leftovers you don't see due to the new cape's UV map. If the cape that fell off was the same model as the final cape with the same UVs this wouldn't be an issue, as you cannot see the blue circles on the final cape which uses the same texture.
That Halloween music absolutely slaps
This is so sick! I know it would still be a big undertaking, but I wonder if now it would be possible to mod the game to restore the original controls and acceleration and the kids' jumping and stuff. It seems most likely that the RC NiGHTS toy would have been tied to Christmas Spring Valley, a Christmas present for a Nightopian to play with which resembles NiGHTS' Christmas outfit. Unfortunately, now the Reala Drill Dash and Jackle cloak are going right up there with the upside-down B rank texture on the ranking die as things that bug the shit out of me in the remaster lol. But it's way better than those early beta models... yeah...

The Halloween Nightopians are cute and a little scary. Mecha NiGHTS toy is amazing!
The blue Jackle card might be The Fool, as shows someone going into a path, which the tarot usually refers to starting a journey. Orange could be The Emperor as shows Jackle holding a scepter (Or might be The Hierophant). Yellow card not sure but seems a poker card, probably Jack
I was thinking the yellow one was The Fool. In tarot-based games, the fool can serve a similar purpose to a 52 Deck's jokers, and its not uncommon for it to be represented by a court jester. Orange, to me, gives me The Magician vibes, though I can see the argument for Emperor. Blue's stumped me though
In the yellow card you can see the blue and green veil pulled aside in the background. To me it looks like a riff on The High Priestess and a reference to the royalty cards from a standard playing deck (I agree it's probably the jack specifically). Blue looks like it could be a combination of The World and The Wheel of Fortune (maybe The Moon also, if you squint). Orange is too close up to make much of but the yellow radiant stripes looks like The Lovers, the horns and the hand gesture give me the impression of The Devil (an inversion of The Lovers artistically), and the blue hat looks like the ones worn by The Loyal Order of the Water Buffalo
Tarot Card enthusiast here. For these tarot cards I am fairly certain the 4th one is The Fool as it depicts someone going down a long path. 3rd one is likely The Emperor since it looks like a creature wearing a crown and regal collar the object on the left most resembles the scepter held by The Emperor as well. The last one most resembles The World to me with the creature being encircled by the background with decorated corners, it also resembles a joker playing card having the creature mirrored top to bottom. The way the last one holds up its hand makes me think of others but I don't think this creature has any attributes that those would have leaving me more confident that its the world.
On the tarot cards I noticed the text on each one seems to contain Greek letters at the beginning and end. Some are hard to tell and some appear to be backwards or upside-down. I don't know how relevant that is to the Nights world.
Lastly, I think you may be incorrect about one thing with the cape texture. It is understandably misleading that the blue shape overlaps colors from the cape which would look poorly laid out, however, what is important is where the geometry will sit on the texture. Looking at where the contours of the cape would be on the texture as indicated by the design I don't think the blue shape would overlap the cape, therefore it is correctly laid out and the colors bleeding over don't matter as that would be empty space.
The cards look to me like: Chariot, Hanged Man, Wheel of Fortune(Not too sure on that as the image is a bit scuffed on my end), the Tower, the Sun, and the Fool. I couldn't get a large image of the fourth card, so I'm not really sure.
Funny, my first thought for 'Mecha NiGHTS' was the Metal Knuckles model from Sonic R.

maybe the huge nights heads and the unused faces had something to do with self? if the theory about self being close in design to nights is true, then its not at all impossible to think so. plus, its a bit of a stretch, but the biggest head kinda resembles the boss icon
In my opinion on the tarot cards, I’m thinking the smiling face one could be the fool, as in like a jester to make everyone smile and stuff, the one that looks like a pathway is a long stretch, could be the world for to show how big it is and how long a journey would take, and the last could be a king or queen because it seems to be referenced the human cards in a normal 52 deck card. These are just guesses and opinions, so if you have any other ideas, go for it.

Terot card on the far right appears to be "The Fool" card. I'm not sure about the two in the middle; middle-left card may be "The Magician".
The Halloween music wasn't entirely scrapped it sounds like Sega moved it over to Phantasy Star Online on De Rol Le if you listen closely you can hear the similarities of the Halloween music to the bossfight music 8:53-9:26

Very underrated game
Just notice carefully about Jackle s cape glitch it seems the 2 blue/black spheres are taken from his blue wrists and you can see the black color in the middle like it’s to pretend to be the “inside” of Jackle sleeves and I’m guessing Jackles hands and wrist were supposed to be part of its cape on the sides when it was in beta and the devs must’ve had probs with the final version of the cape but they decided to use the beta mistake as an leftover only when he loses ? That’s my opinion

You could argue Reala doesn't morph when drill-dashing because he's not as much a free spirit as nights... but then he Does turn into those vehicles in S&SAS Racing so, yeah I guess they just got lazy.
