      Its good but what really helps this Shanahan's offense is his calculated aggression. Sure he'll have those well schemed passes at the middle. But if he likes the mismatch at the sideline for Aiyuk or whoever, he's going to rip it.

      I say it all the time, Aiyuk game is elevated by Purdy, Jimmy didnt pass the ball over the hashes neither downfield. Purdy stretches this attack horizontaly and verticaly. Shanahan is smiling so much more, he found his QB.

    • @t4d0W
      @t4d0W Před 7 měsíci +26

      This holds true. Shanahan's run with the niners was working with a QB that can get results in structure. But Brock's great quality about him is he has the traits Shanahan likes for his QB but the added pocket presence and downfield aggression is helping elevate Shanahan's offense. Granted there have been some turnover worthy throws but considering how efficient this offense has been, its fine to be risky if the payoff are explosives/scores. Against the Cards he wasn't perfect (CMC did his damage) but he went 20/21 in attempts and was driving the air yards deep. This is all Kyle could ask for even in a great game script.

      Often Jimmy waited to throw until the route cleared, but that made it a longer throw (and he's not exactly Josh Allen in terms of arm strength). Brock will see the gap in the coverage and throw these looping, easy to catch balls into them ahead of the receivers. They're almost like a soccer or hockey player hitting a hit ahead pass to the open area of a field. Just gorgeous to watch.

    Brock Purdy just played a top five defense in the league and smoked them. His accuracy is top shelf and he protects the ball. Calling him a system QB is just silly, every offense runs a system.
    He is throwing into some very small windows. His decision making speed is some of highest I have ever seen from a QB.
    He is fortunate to be matched up with a great head coach and a complete team, but he still has to execute the game plan, which he does at a high level.
    Plus I love the story of the overlooked player who can ball out like a champ. Most folks love the underdog. Niners have found a real gem.

      Jimmy could only make throws between the numbers and no further than 20 yards downfield, if that. He was basically the scissors that neutered Kyle’s balls. Now that he’s out of the picture, the sky is the limit. I bet Shanahan is so damn happy to have a legitimately great QB for the first time since Matt Ryan.

  • @Ishai1
    @Ishai1 Před 7 měsíci +162

    That pass to JJ (#15) is one of the big differences between Purdy and Jimmy in this offense. Jimmy wouldn't see the guy getting wide open if it's the third read, or like we saw in previous breakdowns, just a decoy and not even in the progression. He would've went to Deebo, Deebo would've made guys miss tackles and it would still look like a great play but when you look at the tape you'd see the wide open receiver down the field who might've taken it all the way.
    Purdy sees those guys and gets the ball to them a lot more.

      Jimmy just threw INT NUMBER SEVEN, in four games (actually, 4th Q about to start), and should have thrown number eight. Purdy is by FAR the best 49ers QB since Young, and if you look at the numbers, he is off to the best start in NFL history through his first 10 regular season starts!

    That "nod" as you describe it (@6mins), when he changes direction is essential. No human can run full speed and then change direction without a dramatic foot plant to shift their weight. In this case, I do not see the receiver trying to fake the other way as we see often in other similar cases.

    Thanks for the analysis. I respect your feedback above others, and the national sports media and scouting talent just can't stomach that they didn't see BP's potential, and I believe is the real reason why he's not getting his just due. It's not just coaching. Jimmy and Lance were prepped for this offense and both were scouted, and yet after years of trying to run this offense, both of them haven't come close to the command and effciency that Brock's demonstrated. I mean the brock was throwing dimes the moment he was brought off the bench when Jiimmy went down with that ankle. CMC also did not have a big night last night, so last night's game was definitely won at the QB position.

    One of the criticisms of SF over the past few seasons is that Shanahan out smarts himself. It seems like he is so creative with his concepts that sometimes, it just doesn't work, but isn't that nature of new ideas? Sometimes the new concepts result in really weird plays with poor spacing, but how can you know without trying it in a game? The answer will come in playoff time whether Shanahan is still tinkering at key times in key moments costing his team a game, or uses the regular season to run all of these experiments.

      Its more like Kyle has been finding ways to bypass the limitations with his scheme given the personnel he has. He gets caught up with it in key situations and gets too cute with it. But also getting great talents helps influence him to change things up. The CMC pick was huge because his run game got even more diverse and explosive but he also got a mismatch target he can throw as a receiver in pass plays. But getting an improved QB who can drive the ball downfield was always the end goal too. Lance showed flashes of it as a starter but Brock has made it a weekly reality.
