this is the best football show outside of actual NFL football. Better than all the talking heads by a mile.
100%. Actual analysis is egregiously underrepresented in the sports media landscape. JTO is a godsent
JT is stellar at articulating football!
The Talking Heads don't watch games or film. They watch highlights... maybe. They have lazy takes and most fans accept their lazy takes and narratives vs watching game or film and coming up with their own.
@@nopavementplease6158 100% agree, the takes are lazy and many times just for clicks
Yea he is great. Check out Kyle Sloter too. I think he is better but, not by a lot.
It’s insane to me how anyone can call this kid a system quarterback while seeing these throws and this anticipation.
His 10-hard split is literally the same as Lamar Jackson. Elite acceleration.
Well anticipation could also be related to “the system”. But I agree some of the throws he has made shows he’s not just a system type of qb.
The fact is I don't recall this level of anticipation even with Montana
It's not just his anticipation. He has the ability judge speed-distance-time. He gets the ball to the receiver in the best place and on time. It's one of the reasons his receivers have such high YAC numbers.
People who say that about Brock are haters and casuals who doesn't watch football. Brock really should be the new face of NFL.
Shanny talked about the Aiyuk TD and said it’s supposed to be a check down underneath and he was shocked when Purdy threw it where he did. Purdy said he felt he could layer it in and decided to take the shot. I think that’s why you see Aiyuk adjust mid route.
Yeah he threw the ball into that little pocket and trusted that his wr would make a play on the ball. BA saw it, adjusted and executed.
Hmmm... a "system QB" that goes against the system.
Hopefully it teaches Kyle to trust his QB one day.
Yeah, awesome way to throw your receiver open. Kudos to Ayuk for making the adjustment
@@InventiveFilms Once Brock gets his contract and his stones drop a little more, he'll push back on Kyle.
Love how 11:30 Wagnee thinks he got Brock and throws him to the ground and gives him a staredown without knowing the ball had already been passed to George 🤣🤣🤣🤣 his "huh!?" reaction is priceless👌🏻
I have to wonder how many times Purdy hits his receivers while they are in stride compared to other QB's. It seems like he does it so much. I love watching it.
the weird thing is either his playstyle, or the teams teaching of him
he VERY RARELY leads or lags his throws, there is like this spot near his recievers heads/shoulders where he is constantly AIMING for. they generally have to turn towards him for the reception.... which SHOULD cost YAC, but generally somehow they are always getting tons of MORE YAC. im happy with it, but it feels very different then when i was a kid
@@vissermatt1058 It protects the receiver instead of leading them into big hits. Also allows them to change direction and wheel out of tackles.
@@ShowInTheDarkright, I’ve never seen him throw a “fuk your buddy pass”
That was jimmy g’s problem he couldn’t hit them in stride it was fukn annoying im so happy brocks accuracy is amazing
"Big A anticipation"
The Pick-Six was tipped at the line. There is a view from the right side of the field and you can see the ball was right on the money then gets tipped and it goes up so CMC has to reach high and he tips it again.
Also, the play I REALLy liked was the 3rd down to Jennings (#15), nothing special about the pass but the play Jennings made to fight 4 defenders to a first down was amazing.
That play was truly amazing he picked up the 1st down with 4 dudes on him. Jennings is a strong ass dude
On the Aiyuk TD, Purdy saw the LB on the dagger and saw open space on the post, so he threw it to space and hoped Aiyuk saw the adjustment. Great play and great that Aiyuk and Purdy are on the same page there. That's usually 4-5 years working together there and they've never had an off-season working together, amazing.
This kid is in year 2! The haters criticize him like he’s Mac jones or Zack Wilson. If he was Trevor Lawrence or Burrow he would be looked at like the next Brady or Montana. The kid has exceeded expectations and lets just appreciate his never say die attitude. Great break down JT! No yelling or arguing like other personalities on TV just pure football talk
Yeah, he played 17 games so far so basically a season!
It's hard for others to accept because he's the first of his kind so it's hard to compare him to anyone.
@@Rasyaady11the closest comparison in terms of being an unheralded prospect becoming an elite franchise QB phenom out of nowhere would be Kurt Warner, who was undrafted. However he was 28 at the time, far older than Brock. The next closest comparison is Brady of course, but he wasn't putting up the numbers that Warner or Brock was doing early on
@bazimyan exactly Brady didn't hit the ground putting up his kinda numbers, and Kurt started later, hence why I believe he's the first of his kind.
I think it's about time we start asking the real question. Is Brock Purdy a bust? XD
CMC’s shuffle motion is Peyton’s “OMAHA!”
Nobody knows what it means, but defenses have to respect it.
no, i feel that its a way to create spacing for other routes. its so that defender widens with CMC, then to have someone come under neath. Either way some chucky cuck like Grant Cohen should ask Shanhammy.
They prepping the double pass
my guy glock is 23 and already elite.. niners will be scary for years to come
Glock Purdy got the switch installed in the offseason
Glock Purdy🐐 drops another 30
IMHO the off schedule throw to kittle that ended up being incomplete due to the DB pushing him out of bounds was Purdy's best throw of the game.
When the season is done you should do a breakdown of Purdy vs other qb's side by side to highlight their differences and similarities.
JT the Man!! One comment - one the Aiyuk TD - it's crazy to me to watch Brock's helmet -- he looks off the safety to Kittle to open the hole and then immediately resets and throws a dime to Aiyuk between 4 defenders. Crazy level of play for a 1st year QB - he makes it look easy.
The Purdy/Aiyuk connection is pretty crazy. That td play was pure timing and trust.
Consider how many snaps Brock Purdy played in college. He was very well prepared.
I remember JT playing for the 9ers back in the day. Excellent analysis as always!
A lot of people dont understand how sometimes these YAC routes within a play are designed to set up blocks at a precise moment so they can turn those 5 and 10 yard plays into explosives. The timing and rhythm that Brock consistently keeps the offense in - play in and play out, its impressive.
22:50 is hilarious! I always look forward to them running that motion during the game just to hear what JTO has to say about it.
❤🔥🥳 YAY!!! 🥳❤🔥I didn't think this video was going to happen! This is me at church... 😇😅🙏
I love the detail, graph pictures and verbal description!! Helps me appreciate the team even more!! New subscriber!
Welcome aboard!
This was my first time at an NFL game. Loved being able to see whole plays develop in real-time. Your show and others on YT were really helpful being able to understand what was happing live.
On that TD to Aiyuk, I saw the massive hole in the converge about the same time as Purdy. I was up screaming "Aiyuk!" as the ball was released. It was super exciting to see him adjust to where the ball was thrown and make the catch and TD.
This guy is a must watch. I check him out every week.
Great breakdown. Love it when JT has apoplexy.
if I understood what Kyle said in the post game presser that last td was really more meant for the te check down for 10 yd gain but Purdy saw the window for aiyuk
Excellent analysis. The best I’ve found online … by far.
A very RARE video release on a football Sunday!😄
Holiday weekend. Hahaha
always a treat watching your videos JT! consistent amazing analyzing of the game!
Finally!! Been waiting for this
Gee, I look forward to your articulate analysis. I’ve seen a lot of film, but I don’t easily see what you point out. You’re specially strong on giving the how and why given the alternatives. Purdy sees things others don’t, including Shanahan
Thank you, love your breakdowns.
I think the only reason they do that motion for CMC is to try and show the defenses hand on coverages. Just a pre snap read.
If somebody moves w/ it, what coverage does that indicate?
@@TheQBSchool I think it's just to establish man coverage vs zone. Spread a LB out to create a space in coverage.
I think it's to get the D's eyes out of their fits/lanes and set up future plays, but it doesn't seem to work so well
@@TheQBSchool😅
@@TheQBSchool deebo and cmc have both thrown a pass for tds, they attempted a deebo pass this game...could be a way to set up another pass play from one of them
I have learned so much about the game from you. Happy to support thr channel. Keep up the great work, JT!
Commenting for the algorithm, but man, these are the best breakdowns
Watching Deebo since he came out, this is how Deebo runs routes even when he thinks he's getting the ball. I don't think it's necessarily lazy route running, like JT suggests. It's moreso that Deebo has such great short area quickness that he likes to lull defenders to sleep then accelerate out of a break to get separation. He does this CONSTANTLY. And it cooks defenders regularly. It's also effective against zone coverage because Deebo is top tier at settling into vacated zones. That route running style just allows for him to sit down in empty spaces easily.
Interesting
Yeah but sometimes he doesn’t run full speed which actually disrupts the timing of the design of the play. You’re right you don’t have to run full speed to get open, you see that with Kelce often. But Deebo really doesn’t have a lot of nuance in his routes and doesn’t get a lot of separation consistently.
Or it’s lazy?
Word salad or lazy? You choose.
@@TheQBSchool well that's an ironically lazy response.
That little out route in the RZ where Deebo cooked Bobby Wagner is exactly what I'm talking about. He's practically jogging until he makes his break, then suddenly he has 3 yards of separation.
Deebo isn’t a good route runner nor is he in perfect shape. He’s faster with the ball in his hands but he doesn’t go 100% on every route. Brandon Aiyuk on the other hand goes 100% on every route. So yes Deebo is a lazy route runner, always has been
Your film breakdown is fantastic, brother. Subscribed.
Love your analysis of the 49er offense.
JT...I've learned so much from you due to these videos. Keep up the great work!
JT has some of the best content i love watching how he breaks down everything. Some people get annoying on how they break down shit pausinghere pausing there like fukn run the play. Jt knows exactly how to run his break downs and not bore you. His knowledge is impressive as well
This kid has the " it factor" for sure and im always rooting for a underdog esp the last pick.
Absolutely the best breakdown of QB play for any team. Love this show!
Please keep doing Brock Purdy analysis every week I love you for it. 💯💯💯
💯
The side shuffle by CMC is supposed to make the D-line respect the screen pass. The niners do this on long downs.
Love these videos. 👍
Love the vids. I've learned to dread any play that begins with the CMC shuffle motion 😅
JTO! Best in the biz!
It is such a joy to watch Purdy play this position.
Love this show
Great analysis as always, JTO - I love watching the Brock Purdy breakdowns and I have learned a ton. Not sure if this was mentioned already, but one thought I had on the Aiyuk TD re: the threw to space vs. wrong route... after the game, Kyle said he was surprised Purdy made the throw because the zone guys were so deep--could that indicate that Aiyuk was supposed to be running the dagger route and Purdy threw him open? If Aiyuk was supposed to be running the post maybe that read would have made more sense to Kyle at the time. Regardless--exciting to see him making a great throw like that
Agree with you, no idea on the shuffle motion. I think it was dagger on the last one, from watching Iowa, Purdy does like his freelancing. It's one of the things our receivers are still getting used to, the QB freelancing on them. He's not Baker Mayfield, but he's got a bit of the backyard ball gene in him.
The last play per Kyle’s presser is usually to the under man 89 woerner for an easy 10-13 yards. He reads the LBs if they go high he goes low and vice versa. He said Brock just went high anyways knowing he could make the play. He said it wasn’t the way it was supposed to be say pre snap, but that “Brock proved what was the right throw there” or something to that effect.
I think aiyuk and Purdy are just on the same page with the mind reading, they did it last week too with the adjustment at the end of the route where he threw it to space and he cut up under the DB.
Purdy just trusts and knows his WR and Aiyuk trust and knows his QB. They know each other. To me right now, they are the best combo in the NFL. Reminds me sort of when Romo and Dez bryant were doing it, or at least of a video Is saw...Dez was caught on camera once telling Tony "come on Tony! we the best in the NFL at this! We the Best in the NFL! Aint no body better!"...he wanted Romo to throw it to him when he had one on one coverage because he knew Romo would put it in the right place for him to go get it.
Right now Purdy and Aiyuk or on that same wavelength, they just know and trust each other. Its Awesome to watch. You are right though, purdy threw it to the open space, and he knew Ayuik would go get it..Brock is a gun slinger who knows how to take chances w/ the appropriate risk. Its exactly what you want. He has broken open kyles play book downfield, its so fun to watch. I am a cowboys fan BTW., but purdy is just fun to watch...
Hespect
I think the CMC motion was to try and draw a linebacker or safety with him, and try to make jennings open on the 10-15 yard in route
whooo treat before the week. Thanks JT
JT this is the best channel there is.
Best show! Period
JT, on the Brock TD, it looks like a WR sight adjustment when they see the safeties getting depth and ignoring the underneath. It should have been a check down to the wide open TE, but Brock is a gunslinger.
(30:12) Aiyuk pattern: He was grabbed. That turned his body (shoulders) CCW and made it look like he "...ran wrong at the top of the route."
Great video F that motion ! Video made me lol! Go Ags ! Keep it up JT
I think of you every time I see CMC's shuffle motion, JT 😂 Love your videos!
Thanks!
You have the best breakdowns on youtube
GO 49ERS!
There’s two thoughts I can toss out there on the purpose of that shuffle motion you hate (kinda just throwing some ideas). First, there’s some ambiguity to that motion, in that the defense doesn’t know how far CMC is going to go, and they can snap the ball at any point during the motion (whereas if he was moving toward the line for part of it they couldn’t snap it then). So it potentially create some confusion on when, or even whether, they should adjust in response.
Also, in the example of the play starting at 26:27, I think they deliberately want CMC a few yards behind the line to create more vertical separation between him and the receiver in front of him (Aiyuk in this case). On that play, if CMC had started closer to the line, and to Aiyuk, and run his route deeper, that would have just made it easier for the safety to drive on his route like he did. I think the goal of CMC’s route there was to get him the ball in space to get those last few yards, whereas running him deeper would have likely drawn closer coverage.
Thank you JT, my football IQ probably hasn’t gotten any better, but it’s sure fun to watch . Merry Christmas
BA and Purdy have developed a relationship and Purdy threw to the open area (for more yards) to make BA adjust.. Purdy also has this with CMC, Deebo and Kittle.
That's it!
Purdy has the textbook mindset of an NFL QB. He flat out gets it.
I think they are setting something up with that weird motion. Simple thing would be a swing or quick screen to CMC, but also potentially a double pass. CMC has thrown one last year against the Rams for a long TD.
22:53 This part with Kyle had me dying 😂😂
MVPURDY🐐 = 🐐
I think the CMC shuffle initially presents like he could get handed the ball so they see how the defense lines up against the run. After the shift, he is a receiver but starts 5ft back to keep him more shallow so the check down timing and spacing lines up with the other reads. If he is at the line he will be further downfield in coverage and will be too deep for a check down.
The shuffle motion might make sense in short yardage where you are giving a running play look and then you put pressure on the defense to adjust the pass coverage when you need a short gain. But in one case here they do it on 3rd and forever, yeah, it makes no sense there.
I heard some mic'd up thing with Aiyuk on this game where Purdy said "way to go get it" so maybe that means he threw him open and Aiyuk adjusted, I think you're right
I think Shanahan prefers the timing and route spacing from that lil side shuffle motion.
It's also like a free starter read cause it's freezes that defender and gives the QB/WR an advantage to dictate. It's just moving a defender.
On the Aiyuk TD-Shanahan said that the drop back drift to the left was designed into the play, and that the routes were supposed to be a high/low. He implies that’s with Kittle and Aiyuk, but I don’t see that; maybe it’s with Kittle/Aiyuk and a check down? Aiyuk’s route definitely looks flat on the first step or two out of his break. Anyway, Shanahan said that, live, he thought it should go to whatever the low route was since the defense dropped so far, but that Purdy “proved” that there was space behind them for the high route as he released the ball. -From the postgame interview
I think KS was referencing 89 coming across around the 20. he said he that the throw should have been for the 12 yarder for a first down. That matches better on tape with 89.
@@mjbrown49 that makes more sense. Helpful clarification!
Like the new intro 🤙🏻
Also that weird motion. I think it is just there to F with the assignments. I think they may be looking at their swing screens with it.
Then once they hit that maybe a deep crossing route coming from the backside.
25:34 I think CMC was the read on that play, which explains why Shanahan said he put Purdy in a difficult situation
You're backed up to your endzone, you want to get the ball out quick. Especially while playing behind the 22 or 26 ranked pass blocking line
The motion with CMC i believe is it confuses the defense which is why no one was covering him and he's wide open most of those and I bet Kyle has some double pass play that will appear late in the season since we know CMC can throw. One thing I know is Kyle Shanahan does things on purpose when he designs his plays and seeing that this is reoccurring there must be a plan. As it is now D coordinators have to spend a little time in practice on this and guessing what it is.
My guess with the side shuffle from -5 yards is to draw the defenders closer to open up the deeper throws.
“I’m not going to talk about the motion every time.”
Talks about the motion every time.
I’m not going to act like I know anything here but if I had to take a guess the motion is for two things. Getting cmc the ball on bubble screen type plays with blockers in front or open space. The only other thing that I can think of is it’s supposed to be a spacing/timing thing to hold the linebackers in a certain space to make room for the deeper routes.
JT, the CMC motion is eye candy to set up a screen or double pass.
👌
He's special. Doesn't have the measurables that scouts are drooling over but he's better at playing the position of quarterback than damn near anyone in the league and people are finally starting to realize it. My only concern at this point is how will he play throughout his career in wet conditions. I'm sure it's something that he could improve on if it's his Achilles heel.
Brock Purdy is a Beast 💯💯💯.
I never see any Purdy haters in film breakdown videos. Wonder why 🤔
Might as well watch this in place of 49ers not playing this Sunday
Sometimes when I see that shuffle, it allows CMC to read the field for a split second and be in an area for the check down.
Brock is a not a system QB. He is the system.
Is Purdy elite? It sure looks like it. Is he the best qb in the league? He might be, his stats are by far the best. When in nfl history did a qb lead the league in stats in so many categories and get so disrespected? Probably never. Honestly, though, should Purdy really get any credit at all? He couldn't complete any passes without the football, the football deserves the credit. :)
It’s very upsetting. I googled Tom Brady System Quarterback and there was a lot of talk about that for him too.
The coach gets so much respect for those takes.
@@God1stFoundation That's interesting about Brady being a system qb, I didn't hear that before. Very lazy, stupid takes by Shannon Sharpe on this, if he watches the tape and says system qb he must be blind. He has a bias just like Nick Wright, pretty sad.
They clearly don't watch the tape. With those comments they should spend 30 minutes to watch the condensed version that shows every play. Purdy is balling like I haven't seen since Young.
Watch the first 4 years of Montana. It's not pretty, but he's a winner. And Walsh's West Coast was new, Montana was THE system QB.
@@MisterMoosterKinda funny how Shannon was easily convinced of Purdy after that Thanksgiving game when that was one of Purdy's more average games😂
12:33 the reason probably is that they can make defenses think that cmc might throw it. They did a play last year with cmc and it resulted in a TD
13:00 about the odd motion that cmc does. i think it’s to set a screen is later plays
Out of that shuffle motion eventually there is gonna be a screen, reverse, or double pass in a big situation. It will either be the best play call for a huge play or blow up in Kyle’s face
At 29:05 Kyle came out and said that wasn’t the play called. It was supposed to be a check down but Brock decided to throw it deep during the play. So I think he did throw it to space.
Kyle was shocked when Brock threw it but knew it was the right call when the ball was in the air. Love the break down and love Brock getting his.
He didn't say that wasn't the play that was called. He said he thought he would take the check down on the play because it was the easier, safer throw in that situation. But Aiyuk's route was still an option on the play. He just didn't think he would risk it with the depth that the linebackers had.

Do you think that maybe having the back motion at depth like that, and the time it takes for him to push up to the top of his route, might work to hold the underneath coverage for a step or three longer? Maybe in Kyle’s mind it’s opening windows up in the second level a few steps longer as the underneath coverage is hyper focused on CMC pushing up from depth.
Yeah, I didn't think of that. I was more thinking that it creates more space for CMC to make someone miss if they toss it out to him immediately. We haven't really seen it yet, but that could be coming. Who knows, could be all the above. Shanahan certainly knows what he's doing so, I trust him.
This is the point, IMO. The idea is to stretch the defense vertically immediately. Shanahan seems to think that if they can get one of their skill players the ball with a full head of steam, it's okay for them to be at or even behind the line of scrimmage. Sort of like a (potentially fake) screen without the blockers. I don't know if I buy the idea, but I don't think it's crazy.
My theory for the shuffle motion: that 5 yard "delay" works in favor of the timing of the play and where the defenders are expected to be based on defending the other routes.
I think Shanahan is setting up something we have not seen yet with that motion. Right now I think he is just trying to move the linebacker. Or keep in mind he is drawing the defense's attention to a guy that accounts for a large chunk of the offense as aa decoy. If it does not become clear in the next few weeks what the purpose is then I will join you in scratching my head on the side shuffle.
The Aiyuk Dagger/Post touchdown, could it be a sort of option route?
If the underneath defender turns with the inside post, you throw under him.
Can we get a QB School breakdown of an old JT O'Sullivan game?
Snaps from the center were rough all game
Only explanation for that shuffle motion is setting up other plays later. Besides that 1 TD last week I think it’ll set something big up in the playoffs
13:10 - JT, is there any value in the screen and even pitch/toss game to have that motion and just setting the defense up for a numbers/leverage advantge? Is there an advantage to having that motion and then having CMC run a reverse off of a fake to the other back in Brock's right pocket? Is there an intentional spacing advantage Kyle wants in that combination? It seems like CMC has a hop/skip/jump kinda route running style to that - compared to "screaming out of there at a million miles an hour". It looks and feels to me that the mid level player crossing at 10 yards is the 1 and CMC is the 2, reverse of how you are drawing it up. Am I all wrong?
"Why do I do that motion?" 😂💀 23:00
