@@Zoze13 - My favorite analysis show growing up was Edge NFL Matchup. They would do this kind of breakdown of routes, tendencies, and analyzing the A-22 footage. Better than any other show.
The only downside was that they would spread their focus across the league, so it was usually only a play or two each on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, and they would do it for both teams in a game, and then they would do many of the games. The analysis was great, but seeing as I only really cared about the 49ers and maybe the opponent, it wasn't enough with just the play or two. Which is why I loved playoff time because they would spend more time on just the remaining teams, and instead of one show early Sunday during the reg season, they would do a full hour show on both Sat morning & Sun morning, essentially giving a half hour preview to each playoff matchup.....and longer for Super Bowl.
I love that JT now does this at 30-60 mins for basically each team every week.

The way I look at it, it’s just pure entertainment, not for actual facts. The “analysts” that they call analysts, they are paid to be controversial, and it seems like in the last 20 years or so, the worst take you have, the better. People/fanbases come back to watch who they hate, knowing their take will be bad/biased, and then other fans will come back to watch their guy that they usually agree with. These guys all know the narratives out there, they have people going through comment threads, holding opinion polls and figuring out the hottest topics in sports, so when they write up their segment, they’re already calculating the kind of ratings they’ll have, especially after a big game.
These smaller more informative and educational CZcams channels are nothing like the talking head shows. These are deep dive analysis from guys that actually really know football. Nick Wright sits around and talks about basketball and football, but he doesn’t know the sports as well as he thinks he knows. He watches a few games, looks at the box score with a strong bias, and then comes up with the worst take he can think of, or the most controversial one, knowing he’ll piss off a whole fanbase, and that’s the entire point.

Earlier in the season I thought the Offense was up for the challenge, but I don't see it vs the Ravens or Chiefs - both of those defenses are too much for this mediocre O-Line. It doesn't help that Shanahan is a proven awful clock manager. Mobile QBs absolutely destroy the 49ers. Goff ok, check - not too scary, but forget Mahomes or Jackson.

And for some reasons, in the final drive SF went to the most basic plays. Dump off here, short hitches here, quick out to Conley, scramble and get chunks. Just basic yards / clock eating complimentary football. O line looked good, Purdy looked decisive, everything clicked on that final drive.
But, name 3 guys from SF that can rush: Chase Young, Bosa, Hargrave. Name 3 guys from GB that can rush: Kenny Clark. That's it. And all day long it was GB that generated all that pressure. There were close plays from Bosa that didn't show up in the stats sheet (i.e. the last QB pressure that resulted in the INT at the end), but over all we needed much more from our D line. And we haven't even talked about Ambry Thomas. Oliver got benched, and now Thomas struggles. The Lions' receiving core is much better than GB's. Noticed sf was having a hard time in passpro too, I think that's why Trent got the penalty and was upset, it's the playoffs and defenses get tougher, purdy didn't have all day to set up and read the defense, should've ran it a bit more and between the tackles also like they did later on in the game which was effective btw not just trying to get outside, gb made a heck of a defensive effort and if they're kicker (looking at you gb kicker) makes that 40 yarder ,it's tied after sf scores and the packers get another chance ,but agree implementing the run more could've helped..

I think feel matters a lot here. Purdy's misses *looked* bad, so people downplay his performance. Love's hits looked great and his misses were more "typical" than Purdy's to the average viewer. That doesn't mean Purdy had worse situational awareness, or that you need to compare them at all, just that I understand coming out of that game feeling like JL played much better than BP...
That being said, I really don't get the people trying to "downplay" the discussion on Purdy by forcing him into the category of all of the "average" QBs we never talk about over and over... whether he's elite, or great, or a system QB or whatever, having someone like Brock Purdy putting up awesome numbers and talking about it is just better for football. It's more *fun* when some of the potentially great QBs we talk about aren't the protypical Allen / Mahomes type and rely on a different part of the game to make them "great". IMO, football fans should *hope* Purdy or someone like him is always in the "greats" conversation, because it makes the game more fun to talk about.

According to Kittle, Purdy went off on the sideline after the miscommunication/wrong route by McCloud. Kittle said he knew then they were going to win. Made the whole team focus in on what needed to be done. The next drive was the game winner. Being a good QB also requires things on the sideline viewers, media, and fans don't see.

I know you made fun of Purdy when you brought up him wiping his hand midway through his drop back on that one play, but I actually went through all the plays you went through to watch his hand and see if he completed passes due to wiping his hand on his pants before the snap, compared to if he didn’t wipe his hand, when he had incompletions, or if the pass was a good pass, and it was dropped… sometimes he wipes his whole hand, and sometimes just his finger tips.
I didn’t tally the throws he was wearing the glove, and he eventually takes it off. Then I tallied pass plays where he either has a completion or non-completion pass:
When he does wipe his hand on his pants before snap he completes 6 passes.
When he doesn’t wipe his hand on his pants before snap, he throws 8 bad passes/incompletions.
He had only 3 completions when not wiping his hand.
He had 2 incompletions when wiping his hand before snap, and one good pass but the WR ran the wrong route.
I didn’t watch every single play, I only watched the ones reviewed in this video. I am confident with a larger sample size, if I had access to all the tape, that when Purdy wipes his hand before the snap, he actually throws better in the rain. Some of the incompletions were him not wiping his hand, but he was snapping under center, so he wouldn’t need to as much.
Based on my sample size, Purdy learned how to throw in the rain mid game, figured out how to do it without disrupting his normal rhythm. We’re basically watching a 2nd year guy figuring it out, in clutch games, clutch situations, and overcoming what was his weakness and probably still is, an example was his game in Cleveland when he faced a tough defense when it was raining without Deebo.
So, with the exception of him wiping his hand mid-drop back, I think him wiping his hand before snaps benefited him, his passes were a lot better, more accurate when he did that.

It's now apparent that Brock Purdy should have played at least the first half vs the Rams in week 18. Purdy even said that it was weird for him not being out there. This isn't a 10 year veteran taking a game off.
Let's remember that Jordan Love had TWO dropped INT's, including one that would have killed a TD drive. Also, the Packers were VERY FORTUNATE to get back their two fumbles. Green Bay could have had FOUR more turnovers!

    • @ronbintscatco

🙄Another biased 9er fan. Those weren't close to being turnovers. Love was playing the #4 ranked defense (dvoa) w/ 0 pro bowl teammates on offense. Purdy was playing the 27th ranked defense (dvoa) w/ 5 all-pros (but the excuse is he was missing a 6th all-pro in Deebo). Bad games happen & Love wilted in the 4th while Purdy came up clutch; we don't need the excuses.

He did put up MVP-caliber numbers though, and it wasn't simply because of the talent surrounding him, so all of his detractors have been trying to throw shade on him by saying he's not on those guys' level, but no one is even saying he is! Lol the goalposts have moved so drastically on him. At first, people were saying Lance should start over him, now they're saying, "well, he isn't Mahomes." Lol it's so disingenuous!

Thanks for taking the time to do these, makes me a much smarter viewer. Also... if you see this, How much of this performance do you think falls on the gameplan / play calling? Obviously Purdy made some serious execution mistakes and mental mistakes, but it felt to me like Shanahan was way too committed to the dropback game, even when they weren't behind, especially for conditions that the 49ers have historically played terribly in.
I feel like Shanahan gets a bit of a free pass on badly called games sometimes because of how great he is the rest of the time xD. A lot of people criticized him for clock management in this game, which I get, but honestly that's pretty consistent for Shanahan. Seemed like the play calling was *definitely* off for him on Sunday.

People are making too big of deal about his early struggles in this game. He clearly has issues playing in the rain as evidenced by the uncharacteristic misses and wiping his hand mid dropback. So does his opponent this weekend Jared Goff but everyone seems to have forgotten about that. The two drives where the rain let up purdy played like himself. As soon as the rain comes down hard jordan love threw a game ending pick. The rain was very heavy. He also had not played in ~3 weeks and probably had some playoff nerves. I think we have seen enough good accuracy and timing from purdy to chaulk this up to he struggles in bad weather. However, the media loves to pick on the kid and makes it a referendum on him like he didn't have a perfect passer rating and multiple 4td games earlier this season. There is no rain in the forecast next week and the SB is in a dome. I am more concern about deebo not being healthy than purdy having another game like this. He has been consistent the past year and half, lets give him the benefit of the doubt.

Purdy was so uncomfortable because the oline was having a hard time dealing with gb front 4 on defense, i think that's why trent Williams got the penalty, they consistently walked down the interior and got in purdys face (remember he isn't that tall) the pocket wasn't as clean as it was during the season and it affected the play, gb had a heck of a game defensively ...

Hey!!! Two teams you played for may the best team win

  • @Wolfeson28
    @Wolfeson28 Před 5 měsíci

I think the other really big factor in this game was that the O-line was capital A *awful* throughout. On some of those "missed throw" plays, you can see the rush clearly getting to Purdy, and it obviously affected his comfort in the pocket on others. On that play starting at 5:13, for example, if you look at the endzone angle (5:29), every damn rusher gets to him in succession. First Feliciano (#55) gets walked straight into him from one side. Then Williams is too slow getting out to #94 on the late stunt, so that guy gets an almost free run at him. When he moves away from that threat, #52 is climbing over McKivitz to get at him. Then when he tries to get out of the pocket, #91 (the only rusher who'd been getting blocked effectively to that point) sees him and gets off his block to make the sack. I mean if you want to know why he can't find and hit Kittle on that return route, that's why: literally every time he moved away from one rusher, there was another one coming free from another direction. Avoiding one rusher and making a throw, sure, but all four in rapid succession...probably not. Same thing with the play starting at 43:52 - yes Kittle and Aiyuk eventually come open, but the rush had already gotten to Purdy before those routes were available.
As for why they didn't run the ball more, well, look at the blocking part of the play at 36:13 - both guards getting utterly blown up by the DTs. That's what our run-blocking looked like the vast majority of the game, outside of the two TD runs. CMC was constantly getting met in the backfield, and having to break multiple tackles just to get 5 yards when he could even manage that.
