Duramax diesel has a knock

- Just bought a 2005 LLY Duramax was told it had a rod knock now l am not so sure. I was getting a P0207 open circuit error. I spliced in a new injector cable cleared the codes. Not getting any errors but the knock is still there. Any help to identify the problem before doing something stupid like changing the motor would be appreciated . I will update when issue is resolved.

It might be a stuck open injector. Don't necessarily need to replace it, just buy a rebuild kit and see what happens ($500 kit vs $1500 injectors
to fix this comment, don’t ever buy body rebuild kits bc they never work. just start with nozzles unless it’s for an lb7. for an lb7, just buy bosch reman/refurb. they can get as cheap as 1k and get you another 100k easy.
shut it down and check for play on the harmonic balancer. might be a broken crank. could also be a injector. or check the blow by when it’s running, it could be a cracked piston.
Mine sounded exactly and I mean exactly like this. Found out it was a rod bearing.

Just a shoot in the dark but my 03 sounded about the same. Luckily only thing it was fuel pressure regulator. It’s a pain to get to but $40 Amazon part had me back on the road.
My dads duramax did the same thing.it was injectors. It costed 2500$ to fix it and it took I think a week to fix it. Basically had to tear the top end off the engine to get to where we can fix the injectors.
That’s because it was a lb7 and probably cost closer to $4k
This is why I hate a Duramax.... My powerstroke eats an injector I pop a valve cover and then a high pressure oil rail and all the hard shits done...

Mine ended up being a broken push rod
Mine ended up being the injector 4,6 on the drivers side. It sounds like the sound is coming from the left side right?
Mine is doing this in driver side. Balance rates are good. And zero engine codes. Could it still be a injector problem?

That's not an injector bud...
Drive train or injector could be your problem

Not yet sent it to a diesel guy who looked at flex plate and valve train ... no diagnostic . He said when he restarted it now sounds like a rattling chain ... still looking for suggestions

Hello any up dates with the engine knock my 04 is doing the same thing i had the injectors replaced and it's still knocking. He shuts off number 7 injector and it still knocks.. Thanks
