This is actually a brilliant breakdown or grouping. Nice work!
12 team structure
go back to the BCS (use automatic qualifiers): only 12 bowls (new years six plus six)
^^^the smaller schools get the other tv spots (post season) ^^^
separate the P5 from G5
everyone plays 8 con /4 non con games
everyone plays block schedule system in con (3 cross div games per yr, then the other 3 the next )
you get no more than 1 sub division (G5 or lower) game per yr and it must be regional
freshmen cant: transfer or get nil deals( i mean individual sponsorships)
all transfers (except grad) must sit out 1 yr
coaches salaries are capped and payed from the same pool (ex: $50 mil per school)
human selection committee becomes NCAA football only sub-committee (voted for by the HCs and ADs)
revive BIG EAST (for the most part)
SEC: Bama, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, MS, Ark / UF, UGA, SC, UK, TN, Vandy
ACC: FSU, MIA, GT, Mem, Hou, merge LTech and uL(cajuns) / Clem, NC, Duke, NC State, UVA, VTech
BIG10: OSU, uM, MSU, ND, Indy, Pur / NW, ill, WI, Minn, iowa, isu
BIG12: UT, OU, OkSU, TAMU, TCU, Bay / Mizz, Kan, K State, Ttech, Co, Neb
BIG EAST: uCONN, BC, Syr, PSU, Temple, PITT / Rut, Mary, Lou, WV, Wake, Cincy
PAC12: UW, WSU, UO, O State, Cal, Stan / USC, UCLA, AZ, ASU, Utah, Boise (or Hawaii)
no independents. all other schools drop to form a new division. MEAC, SWAC, and IVY move up to join them
ACC = American Coast Conference :D Problem solved.
This would never fly, like taking Texas market out of the SEC bc they're all greeeedy ;-)
Why isn't Virginia Tech back in the Big East? Why isn't UConn back in the Big East?
wow this bald guy is a complete moron.
-sees Josh's ideal conferences
-cries with joy at the perfection of it

Here he here he I second that 😁
Same here.
Me too
How??
It will be really fun if you can import the old logos and they show up on the jerseys. The Southwest Conference logo? That goofy 90's Big West logo? A man can dream...
So back to the way it used to be. I'M ALL IN....
The best realignment I have seen yet. I nominate Josh as our Conference Commissioner.
He needs to be football commissioner over all of it

@dlpaul345 better than what we have now, for certain
One of my favorite segments you’ve ever done. There is an alternate reality where this is our CFB and it’s just upsetting that instead of this, we are getting these mega conferences where rivalries and regionality now mean nothing.
As a cinci fan. We would play Pitt, Louisville, West Virginia, and UCF. Absolutely love it
Instead of calling it The Big East they should call it the cream puff conference
very soon all those schools might be in the Big12 anyways...

@@dlpaul345PSU seems pretty likely to leave that Big East, maybe Pitt to B1G and ND to Big East.
@@joshfisher1299 ND is in the midwest and rivals with uM, while also pairing with Indy and Purdue. PSU pairs with Temple and PITT. a major focus of my realignment is to preserve regionalism, to keep the major powers spread out and to maintain/restore rivalries. each team gets 4 non con games to do whatever they want (almost). PSU can maintain it's new found rivalry w/ OSU as an annual non con game
@@joshfisher1299 . . . and you cant just focus on the big brands; you have to give the lower brands a chance to capitalize on winning seasons. there's a reason teams like cincy, rutgers, uconn, memphis, and houston only show up like once every 5-10 years, the conferences are unbalanced. they need to have the same conference structure and scheduling rules. this addresses: in conference strength of schedule, fan and student travel, rivalries, teams purposely scheduling cupcakes, and forces more teams to play quality opponents more often in general (all of which equals fewer dips in revenue per game for the greedy pigs and better product for viewers)
@dlpaul345 Like I said, PSU would leave this scenario. Also, PSU and ND at one point were also considered rivals. If you are going to force everyone into a conference and not have independents, then ND with OSU and UM will get us into the same situation we're in now. The biggest brands need to be split out amongst conferences relatively evenly.
OU fan here. I think I speak for all of us when I say that if we're bringing back both the SWC and the Big 8 we would rather be in the Big 8 and keep our historic rivalries and just play Texas in a midseason out of conference game. That being said if I were in charge of realignment I would resurrect the original Big 12 (1996-2010) instead.
I miss the feel of the old Big 12. It was just a blast back in the day watching all the different conference. The games had a different look, feel, style of play unique to each conference.
Of course OU would prefer that, because the old SWC is hot garbage outside of Texas/A&M. Texas would prefer that too. That's why the Big 12 happened. 😉
OU and Ok St were members of the SWC, both teams left in the 1920s
It’s crazy how great the original Big 12 was and failed.
Our only historic rivalries is Nebraska in Texas okie pokie state is not a rivalry it's a charity game
This is the greatest video ever made,
I miss so much when the conference you were from told us where you were at
The seven wonders of college football! 💪🏼🏈
Honestly these conferences work way better for the other sports too other than just football

This made me realize how much I miss the original PAC 10. I always felt like the conference started to fall off when they added Utah and Colorado and became the pac 12.
A master class in efficiency and organization
as a husker fan the big 8 isn't the big 8 without OU . that being said I think your onto something.
Had the big 8 never expanded or broken up fine. But these are the big 12 north teams which was the weakest part of the big 12. As a Mizzou fan this would be miserable
Utah vs Nebraska sounds kinda cool for some reason
@@Drollpanther the Big8 was one of the if not the perenial conference of that time period, they were also the first conference to have 4 teams with 10+ wins in a season

Everyone who loves college football, loves your idea on these conference alignments.
Arkansas wouldn't/didn't want to be the only non Texas team in the SWC either.
Because they used to cheat us
They did have their glory days while in the SWC. They are more of a mid level team, and conference realignment is making it almost impossible for these mid level teams to rise up and have a good season with a chance at a championship. There is no room to breathe in college football anymore.
Arkansas is top 25 all time despite our recent problems. That’s not mid level despite what an elephant opines.
Why?
I have always said that a team in one conference should play every other team in their own conference every year. It is absurd that these big teams are playing the FCS opponents some weeks and not someone else in their own conference. Heck, in basketball, teams typically play each other twice.
I understand the safety concerns of too many games, but smaller conference sizes can ensure that teams don't play too many games.
Thank you for stating that!
Those are some amazing conferences
Chippewa fan and alum, would love to see you do this for the G5!
As a bronco fan I second this
Memphis alumni thinks this just makes the chip on our shoulder a lot bigger
@@michaelchirichella2380if there is a scenario where the ACC stays afloat and rebuilds, I can see Memphis being invited, along with Oregon St & Wash St. (might as well make a Western pod, unless the PAC rebuilds also, as they say they intend to). Memphis is a rising program.
Josh Pate for commissioner ! Great Conferences.
Yo, the SWC and BIG8 would be LIT!!!!
Exceptional job. I would go for this in a heartbeat. Interest would be created by the regional rivalries. Furthermore a playoff featuring conference champions, would also create interest and regional pride. Which "virtue is more emotionally important to people, "greed" or "pride"? Ultimately "pride" is more important to people who will, in the long run, spend more money on the sport. Following college sports is an emotional experience and greed is a shallow emotion.
This is the best conference realignment strategy video, I've seen so far.
I freaking love this.
LOVE this content! Want more historical look backs, JP!
The TV deals would ruin everything. ESPN/Fox would pay the SEC and Big 10 more than the other conferences and then teams would start to jump ship.
Just do what Chip Kelly said to do and have all Power conference and possibly even group conference share a single TV contract. Introduce some sort of revenue sharing model that still rewards the bigger schools and school success but still keeps the other schools competative.
@@tmcobb04 I think you could create a model where the pie is broken up by a formula consisting of:
1) Base, equally divided to all teams
2) % based on viewership + attendance/game
3) % based on weekly rankings (combination of current polls + AI, or NET-style)
Post season payouts based on invites & performance/wins. And I think the PARTICIPATING athletes should get a huge amount of the post-season payouts. It would incentivize them to not sit out. (Give equal amounts to those who are out due to injury, but if you CHOOSE to not play, then… no soup for you.)
Silly Josh, this is far too logical
As a 90s kid this felt like therapy. Absolutely nailed it Pate.
Most logical thing I've heard anyone say in a while
This makes so much sense that it will never happen.
I liked how it was before everybody started leaving the big 12, the longhorn network ruined college football
Much respect for your desire to realign. I came up with my own as well. 8 divisions of 9.
Atlantic--Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida St, Miami, NC St, No Carolina, So Carolina, Wake Forest
Central--Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan St, Notre Dame, Ohio St, Purdue
Midwest--Illinois, Iowa, Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Wisconsin
Mountain--Arizona, Arizona St, Boise St, BYU, Colorado, Colorado St, Texas Tech, UNLV, Utah
Northeast--Boston College, Maryland, Penn St, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, VA Tech, Virginia, West Virginia
Pacific--Cal, Oregon, Oregon St, San Diego St, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington St
Southeast--Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, GA Tech, LSU, Miss St, Ole Miss, Tennessee, UCF
Southwest--Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M
This is excellent and would be close to ideal.
Great idea & video.
I would love for you to do this with the G5 conferences too.
This is the best segment you have ever done.
Awesome show, Josh! I couldn't agree more! All hail old-school College Football! I long for those old days when logic and tradition ruled the day!
BYU to Big8, OSU to SWC, Rice to independent.
i like Nebraska to the Big 8. The big ten has never felt right.
OU wants the Big 8 but only to play Nebraska yearly
You forgot the Nebraska Oklahoma rivalry of old. OU and NU in the Big 8
Olkahoma Texas feels bigger than olkahoma Nebraska
@@captainspartan04 Now itt does but back in the day- the 70s to the 90s the Ou NU game decided the conference championship almost every year and 9 times the winner went on the be National Champion- OU in 74. 75. 85, and 2000. NU in 70, 71, 94, 95, and 97. The Ou texas match does not stack up to that
Up to 12 team conferences, each having 2 divisions, would accomplish much the same outcome.
16 team playoff with 12 conference champs and 4 wildcards.
Stretch season August to April, winter break December 1 through Feb 13, retain bowl season for rivalry games at bowl sites, playoffs begin in May and champion on Memorial Day weekend.
That’s the only teams that should exist in SEC. Everyone of these conferences would be exciting to watch if this happened.
As a spokesman of the West Virginia fan conglomerate, I approve of these conferences, however I believe in the pit of my being that Mimi and Virginia Tech belong in the big east, I have spoken.
As an SU alumni, I 💯 agree.
Where is Penn State?
@@RonaldSparks-iw3ouI really wish Penn State was back with SU, but I know that old rivalry will never come back again. 😔
Put the Big East dream together: Penn State, Pitt, WVU, Syracuse, BC, Rutgers, Miami, VT, Louisville, UConn. Invite back Nova, G-town, Seton Hall, Providence, for B-ball. The BB tournament at MSG would be insane.
Dude your 1000% right maybe grab fsu and clemson might have something
Love it! Conferences that make sense
What about the G5 Conferences: AAC, CUSA, MAC, MWC, SunBelt that would be interesting to see what you would do.
I did this last month and I love what I came up with
Big 10 : Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Pitt, Purdue, West Virginia
SEC (9) Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Great 10 : Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, North Western, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin
Big East (10) : Army, Boston college, Buffalo, UConnn, Maryland, Navy, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple
Pac 10 same as before
Acc (10) : Clemson, Duke, Liberty, UNC, NCSU, Old Dominion, South Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Southern Conference (10): Central Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida international, Florida state, Georgia Tech, Louisiana Tech, Memphis Miami, Southern Florida, Tulane
Big 12 (12) : Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Rice, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tulsa
Mountain West (9) : Air Force, Boise State, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Idaho, Utah, Utah State, Wyoming
Obviously I brought Idaho back to the fbs
Absolutely Love It. I was hoping at first that you would make an all Texas conference, but when you said SWC I was like Yesssssssssss. As a Notre Dame Fan, I would just go ahead and drop Illinois and Have Notre Dame in the Big 10. Josh Pate for College Football Commissioner.
I always added notre dame to the big 10 in ncaa, it just works so well
Damn!!! You are definitely the smartest guy in the room!!!! I love all of your suggestions!!!!
If I could prognosticate for a moment, I foresee the larger brands within the jumbo conferences having serious squabbles over financials in 6-ish or so years (likely spurred by changing viewing habits, inflexible leadership, and preferred access to a larger playoff system as catalysts), and smaller conferences become the preferred business model again. 10-12 teams per conference, as many as 7 power conferences by 2030, lots of non-conference games per year to satisfy gen z viewing habits (which are yet to be truly determined, but could be a major factor in where the money goes.)
This video was a breath of fresh air! Thanks, Josh!
Brilliant, love it, been working on a similar setup for at least 25-years.
Going beyond:
I would force Norte Dame and Northwestern into your Big 8 Conference and call it the Mid America 10 Conference.
I would create an Independent 10 conference and it would include: Boise State, BYU, Colorado State, Massachusetts, Memphis, San Jose State, Tulane, U. Conn, Vanderbilt, and Wyoming; I know, The Traveling Big 10 might be a better name.
There is your 16-Team National Championship bracket with the conference champion and runner-up getting in.
The winner of the Independent 10 Conference would have the option, repeat option, to trade places with the last place team in any other conference.
Any other football program not included among these 80 teams, with a sufficiently good record, would have the option, repeat option, to trade places with the last place team in the independent 10 Conference.
Love it!! Everything about it!! 👋👋👋🙌🙌
War on I-4 returns? As a conference game? Got my thumbs up!!! Would love to see this happen, would make college ball SO much more fun to watch. (not that it isn't already)
This is awesome Josh 🎉
You tell them Josh!
greatest realignment i have ever seen! I didn't realize it until now, but I really miss the Pac-10 and Josh created the PERFECT realignment! So beautiful!
Thank you!! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this conference realignment is ridiculous. The SEC is no longer the SEC. It's, it's, it's the SUSC (Southern United States Conference). 😂
Well done Josh! Only thing I would change is swap Maryland and Virginia Tech, but other than that, this warms my college football lovin' heart.
Now if we could get him to do a relegation model just interested in his approach but I actually really like this would modify it some for preference but I like round robin instead of conference title games (maybe a good idea for the G5 to be showcased)
Josh, this video just earned you a subscriber. I love the attention to historical details and the understanding that there is enough room at the table for more than 40 teams in 2 conferences.
But your Big East selections broke my heart here. As a Louisville fan, I would do ANYTHING to detach our program from Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, etc.
This is outside of regular college football knowledge, but since the 90’s and Tom Jurich as AD, we’ve worked TIRELESSLY to separate our program from these mid major esque teams. We earned SEC membership back around 2010 only to be blocked by UK’s arbitrary veto power. This spiraled into us joining the ACC after passing on the Big 12. But we’ve gone from Metro to MVC to Big East to ACC in a matter of decades, climbing higher and higher each time. We have the resources to compete with upgraded opponents and it’s been clear for decades.
Please, (I know you have no authority here) give us the respect we’ve fought SO HARD for. Put us in a conference with Miami and FSU. Make sure we play Cincy and WVU regularly, but don’t shove us into some irrelevant conference again PLEASE.
Much love brother. Maybe you can swap Rutgers for Miami or something like that. We deserve to compete against a “big boy” like we have for ky entire life.
I love the conferences you chose to bring back and I love most of the placements(disagree about OU and UT), but Louisville deserves better than being the clear favorite of whatever conference they end up in.
That’s my issue with the Big12 actually. We’re a sure fire addition assuming we’re passed up by the SEC and B1G, but let’s be honest here. Day one in the Big 12, Louisville runs the show. That just sounds boring to me, though basketball season sounds super fun!
This is brilliant. As a guy who played ncaa football, I use to love rearranging the conferences. However, the big 8, big east, and southwest conference where not available. I hope the new college football game will have the old conferences available.
I don’t play video games, but I understand how highly anticipated this game release is, and how highly-played it is. It would be nice if the powers that be would look at what the fans are creating as their own fantasy scenarios, and allow for those historic conferences (and custom-created ones) in the game. My guess would be that the customization would show FAR more fans creating smaller, regional/historical conferences, than just a Power 2/3. It would be fascinating to look at the data.
This guy is about to start a war lol. I like his ideas.
This would be perfect and i agree yea the playoffs would not ruin the regular season this way. You just created a space for at least 70 or so teams to be in a healthy position
Along with the conference realignment, you gotta do something about the network duopoly cartel. Perhaps regulators step in with anti-trust regulation that doesn’t permit ESPN to tip the scales towards the SEC and B1G with their multi billion dollar thumb.
Gonna need to see Saturday 1PM televised games for all your P7.
I love it, only thing I'd complain about is keeping OK State and OU in separate conferences. I wish they could stick together and preserve that rivalry
I would love to see the lower tier conferences done since we’ve seen a large number of schools transition from FCS to FBS. Which schools would end up dropping back down? Would the conference team number still be 10?? Would we create or resurrect a conference (ex: WAC)?? This was a fun video!!
One of the best segments of the show and this version of college football would instantly be better than the current one
Josh just perfected college football🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Just wish it was RL
Thank you, Josh Pate, for bringing some common sense and logic into the world college football, where common sense and logic don't exist. I applaud you tremendously for your love and passion for college football, and I hope your show continues to grow. Keep up the good work!
This is the best conference realignment I have seen the only thing I would do differently is put Northwestern back in the Big Ten and remove South Florida from the Big East and put in Penn State. I'm an old guy and seeing Penn State in the Big Ten and no longer playing Pitt, Syracuse, and West Virginia is something I still can't get my head around.
I absolutely love that. I wish you were in charge. It just makes way too much sense to actually happen, though.
Mizzou getting screwed. As a Mizzou fan I would make a new Conference. Mizzou, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Oklahoma, Oklahoma st, Arkansas , Nebraska
When I first saw the headline for this video, I came in expecting some sort of hatchet job that left my school searching for some D-II conference to join because of the almighty football dollar. I am thoroughly impressed with this idea, although I would have let the Big 8 go and renamed it something to allow for ten teams. Something like the Big Midwest (though this might cause marketing issues with a certain car manufacturer) or Big Plains Country.
The nice thing about a ten-team conference is that you can still have up to an 18-game conference schedule in basketball by playing each team twice.
Love it! As a BIG 8 K-STATE Alum, this feels right!
This is glorious, Pate for CFB Emperor for life!!!!
OU must be back in the Big 8. That's the only way you'll get Bedlam back over little Mikey Gundy's crying. OU v Texas will still be played, 2nd Saturday in October, just like it always was before the Big 12. OU would also love to renew our yearly rivalry game against Nebraska. I know you're a little young to really remember it Josh, but some of those games were historic. You should look up the history of that rivalry. It was often the de facto conference championship game.
old man and I LOVE it
Do that Thanos snap on conference realignments!
How about creating a new conference... Eastern Conference: FSU, PSU, ND, Clemson, Miami, Maryland, VT, Pitt, West Virginia, GT... then Northwestern to B1G; UCONN, Memphis, Liberty to Big East; ECU, App State, Coastal Carolina, James Madison, Vanderbilt to ACC; Oklahoma and BYU to Big 8; Tulane to SWC.
I think I would love to see this, but you have to have OU in the big 8 and move Utah and BYU into the same conference. OU and Texas would still play every year like they did pre-big 12 days.
Great realignment but what about the "lesser" conferences such as MAC, Sun, etc. How would they fit in?
I'm from Boston. (Notre Dame alumnus) This is damn good, Josh.
Love it. I’d put OU in the Big 8 and make it the Big 9 though. Then, if you wanna add BYU you get the Holy War added in.
I like it!! Leaves room for my Seminoles to play the Goiters, ND and either USF or UCF out of conference every year. FANtastic idea!
Also, appreciate the love for what USF is cooking up down in Tampa. Ray-Jay was rockin' back in the Big East days when WV and others came to town.
This is way too logical. All conference champions would automatically get invitation to play off. The remaining spots are given to teams according to ranking. 16 team playoff just the rest of CFB divisions do.
He saying there should only be 8 spots in the college football playoff an since in his world there are 7 conferences they get auto bids an then 1 school from a group of 5 would get the last spot. then you have your 8 team playoff that way. There expanding the playoff to 16 teams an i dont like it cause they changing up the rules of the game to were who ever wins the conference gets in the tournament even tho they shouldnt have gotten there. I LOVE the way josh has his college football playoff landscape an I Think thats what should happen!
This version of the Big 8 would be so cool. Would love to see it
once you reset it the SEC and BigTen will start itching for expansion again ;)
Utah doesn’t have history with any of the Big 8 teams other than Colorado and is both geographically and culturally farther from the Big8 teams than the PAC teams.
Nah Utah and Colorado have always been the odd ones out in the PAC. There’s nothing “Pacific” about them.
I love your idea! I would like to tweak it a little though. What about putting NW or Notre Dame in the Big 10, bring Iowa and OU to the Great Plains Conference (Big 8) and Utah to the sec?!?!
YES, love it. Though it would change the name of the Big 8, I would put Oklahoma and Iowa in there to get every conference to 10, you have spare teams or other teams to fix the gaps I just left in the Big 10 and South West. Everyone in conference plays everyone else is how it should be. I hope you do away with conference championship games. Tell us you playoff scenario, I'm sure it will interest me.
Oh man, how could you put OU in that s***** Southwest conference with all those Texas schools and Arkansas? No no, no. We are the kings of the big eight conference and it would be nice to have that Nebraska rivalry in November back
Pretty good. Here are my six 12-team conferences:
PAC-12: Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Utah, California, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Washington, Washington State
Southwest: Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Houston, Rice, SMU, Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, Texas A&M
Big 12: Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa State, Memphis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Boston College, Connecticut, Syracuse
Big Ten: Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers
ACC: Pitt, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Miami, UCF
SEC: Clemson, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky
This alignment is beautiful
So nice, you’ve got to watch it twice.
pate state staying independent in todays climate is a massive show of strength.
Your proposal makes more sense than anything currently out.there.
