I stumbled on this video. The important part that was missing when I swapped batteries, was your excellent camera operator and encouraging commentary during the ordeal. This is the same set-up as my 2016 Ford Transit Connect Cargo van. I went the air filter box removal route and it is probably just a little easier and more localized. When I say easier, what used to be a 5 minute job to swap batteries has now been engineered into this fiasco. Enjoyed your video.
Ford really fumbled the ball putting the battery in like this. I’m ready to change mine and pretty much already had it figured out but wanted to see for sure how to get in there. Thanks for posting this!
Super helpful video!! Can't thank you enough and I really appreciate you taking time to make and post it. After watching your video, I went out to change my battery and it was great knowing exactly what I was about to get in to. Overall, it took me a little under an hour to swap it out. It shouldn't have to be that long, but some engineer at Ford thought it would be a great idea to bury the battery where no one could find it. Actually, there was nothing really difficult with the process once you see someone else do it. It was also nice that you mentioned the size of the Torx driver and the sockets, which saved me the hassle of trial and error with my socket set. Great job!!
Quick tip for everyone if you need to take out the windshield wipers after removing the bolt just stick the wiper up like your about to change the blade and it will come out without any force! The only reason you need a “puller” is because when it’s sitting normal it’s pushing on the bolt making it hard to pull out.
My son is a mechanic he worked for Ford and Chevy...There is a faster way to remove the batt on a Ford Escape. No need to remove the wipers and the windshield components. instead remove the Air filter box .and other parts in front of the batt. Faster and less work.
You shouldn't remove the wiper arms unless you have a factory level scan tool. The wiper arms are not linked together like they are in most other vehicles. Each arm gets its own free running actuator. If you don't go through the calibration process using a scanner, the arms will move out of sync and crash into each other. You can get lucky and sometimes it won't happen, but most of the time it will. Also, the windshields are extremely easy to break on the Escort/Focus. It extends all the way into the engine compartment, and if you push a little too hard removing the wiper arms, you can break it with very little force. Happens all the time. If you remove the airbox, the front wall on the battery housing detaches and folds down so you can slide the battery forward. Its the piece that has the big wiring harness on it that runs down to the pcm. I know the airbox can be difficult to work with. Remove the top piece and the air filter first. It makes it much easier to work with. If you have trouble putting it back in, its the rear leg on the airbox that's getting hung up. Focus on getting that lined up first, and the rest should be east.
This method of removing the wiper blades and the big plastic trays underneath the wipers was super easy. Unfortunately I first tried the method of removing the air box and I it was so tuff I couldn’t do it and putting the air box back in place was a real chore. I have a 2014.
I have actually done it both ways and I think I prefer the method of removing the air box. Mine was not too bad to remove and put back, though. Glad this way worked for you!
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I had to change my battery and if it wasn’t for this video I would have been lost. Now help me with my blinker light. How the heck do you get that done? Thank you again
Hi Jasmine, Usually, there are some screws that hold in the light assembly and then some sort of retention clips that have to be overcome. Once you have the assembly free then you can twist the bulb to remove it from the housing, pop the new bulb in, and then do everything in reverse. Of course, that's just a general guide 🙂. Sorry I don't have a video on it specifically, but maybe I'll try to put one together.
As I'm watching and doing it, I pulled on the whiper blades at the screw part, and then I folded the blades up and then pulled and it come off pretty easy.
That battery placement is totally inexcusable. It totally typifies why I hate working on cars not only is doing simple things complex was there a purposely designed the impossible for the average person to do they are designed that way so the dealership can justify charging 2 hours labor to change the battery, and then they can tell you because it's so expensive to change the battery you get the most expensive battery on the face of the Earth
I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for posting. It helped us out. Now we our having issues with my wiper blades. They don't work and our scratching my hood and go all the way into the hood. Please help us.
Sounds like you did not get the wipers lined up and nut did not get on tight enough. Here's a video on how I re-installed the wipers. Don't over-tighten the nut but it should be tight enough so the wipers function properly and don't flop around. czcams.com/video/N-TkCLXYubo/video.htmlsi=P7I4z7WXC8Bd1WSf&t=626
@@kcstever1 I do like the view and access to the rear of the battery and compartment provided by the top approach. Maybe it's a toss-up: fighting with wiper arm vs fighting with the air cleaner box. I liked your bolt tapping approach to releasing the wiper arm.
I'm so pissed I bought this vehicle, it's such a POS design, but thank you for this vid so that I at least know how to change the battery if I need to, since the batteries tend to drain easily on this hunk.
Another option I found out later was to take out the air box. I think I prefer that method, though I don't have a video on that one. But there are some out there.
AWESOME VIDEO...THE ONLY REASON FORD DID IT THIS WAY IS SO LOWLIFE SCUM CAN'T EASILY TAKE YOUR LIGHTNING BOX.. However with that said the other car makers are rammjamming them in the trunk. (Careful tightning down those wipers, strip that bolt and your screwed, also made from white metal if they aren't tight enough they will wear off the gogs and just flop around.. You can also get the battery out by removing the air cleaner and air box. A lot easier and less of a hassle.
I figured that out after I made this video and have since done it that way. I do prefer the air box removal method.

Thank u . Great, vidieo, it took me longer for her to go get battery, then it did to complete job..tks again
Thank you! The part at around 12 minutes helped me figure out how to just jump the car.
I had the same problem at Walmart a few years ago. I waited in Walmart for two hours before they finally told me "Yeah... we can't do it." 🙄

Great job Steve thanks 👏🏻👍🏻
Thank you and you're welcome! 👍
Although I know how to change the Battery on any car. I just watched this video because how funny 😅Steven is ❤
Can you show me how to fix the radio and back up cam on this car
It’s not working
Sorry, I have not had to do that one and I'm not a real mechanic, only mediocre. 😂
Great video I wish I have the tools the change my own battery, God bless you guy’s. 🙏💚🙏
Thank you I followed every step
I came for the advice but i left entertained as well! Good video bud

Very funny and helpful video.
You don’t have to go that far.
Take the air filter box out and remove the battery in 15 minutes. You don't have to take half the front end off your car.
I did that the next time I had to get to the battery. I think I like that way better, too.
