      I've been painting for 10 years.
      stainless steel and chome are the most difficult material to paint.
      and I'll say you can make ANY paint stick to ANY surface with the right preparation. for example a plastic sink. just scuff with a red scotch bright pad and use an adheasion promoter, like a primer. works great.
      you guys were really, really close with the prep work though. for stainless steel and chrome, wire brush the hard to reach areas and then 60 or 80 grit the entire sink. do not sand with anything finer. use 3 light coats of adhesion promoter, preferably 3M, wait for 3rd coat to tack up but before it's fully cured lay down your paint. let everything cure for 24 hours. and for more protection you could use an automotive clear coat

I would have never imagined it was possible and furthermore we live in such a throw it out and get another one world. It's really good to see that items can be restored and refurbished to perfection. Would you recommend any other preparation steps in this situation before I proceed with the steps shown in this video? Would I have to remove the old finish down below the scratches to get out the food stains and such?

    Thanks for the video, I'm not sure if you will read this comment and give me solution / suggestions trying my luck.
    I'm also at the situation where I have circular (seems inner) hairline cracks at my sink, being suggested just replace the whole sink. However this costs me too much and hassle to replace all the other impacted top tiles and water pipes that I need to correct.
    I just need the hairline cracks to minimum disappear so it doesn't look too gross (I also have slight trypophobia).
    Saw your video using the 'Zinsser 1-2-3 Primer Turbo Can (Larger Spray Nozzle)' and I'm quite keen to purchase this and try out as a interim workaround for my sink (Yes I might just skip the previous steps around grinding, sand papering etc..) but at least to the post primer step for wet dry sand paper + tack clothing + 2nd coating using the Krylon Tub and Tile Aerosol Spray.
    From your experience, will the Primer it-self + post steps be sufficient to at least cover up (minimize the visual) of the hairline cracks, so I don't need go through all this transforming and changing my sink.
    I'm willing to also share some of my pictures through you personal email if you need any fun sharing :)
    Thank you for reading this DP!

      Hey I don't know if it's to late for ya but read your comment and thought I would chime in. The purpose of the steps before priming is to make sure everything sticks. Getting it cleaned and especially the sanding. The sanding is to roughen the surface and to remove any other impurities. If you do not sand, the primer will in fact, without a doubt, absolutely start coming off and rather quickly as well. I'd say the first time you use it, you'll start to notice it peeling off. I learned the hard way years ago with slick surfaces, it's an absolute must to sand. Hope this catches you in time and hope it helps

      If it’s dry in some areas watch your distance of spraying from the surface and how fast you are moving. Closer spray within 6” and slightly slower steady spray will give more shine but be careful for runs

      You dont really need to re strip. Since the finish is new, you can sand smooth with 400 grit to get all the imperfections out. Wipe down with acetone or laquer thinner on a paper towel, then tack cloth or blow out any remaining dust. Then recoat 2x with the spray. No need to reprime. Remember to spray even coats from roughly 10 inches away, lightly overlapping. Be patient! It may take a 3rd coat to get the full coverage you want but don't rush it.

    So my husband dropped something in our sink today and the white chipped off the center divider between basins. We now have a spot 1” x 3” to fill, it went straight to the black metal underneath.
    I was going to fill with epoxy putty and sand, but I know that I’ll likely have to paint to really hide the patch. Also, I noticed on some of your other videos you use Bondo. Is that the same as an epoxy putty (I just bought some Loctite Repair Putty). Would Bondo be better for the patch?
    Our sink was old before we moved in, and those before us had left not much gloss on the finish (it was dull and scuffed easily when any kind of pot or pan is in the sink). My guess, years of scouring with Comet.
    If I use the Krylon, as above in your video, I’m guessing the new surface is less likely to stain from tea or scuff from a pan? What would you recommend for basic maintenance? Should I never plan on using anything abrasive again? Would soft scrub or comet or barkeepers friend pull off the Krylon paint? Suggestions and any advice would be appreciated.
    And thanks for the videos.

      When I say it's not smooth, I mean that if I run a cloth over it, it doesn't just slide over it and the surface appears to be more of a flat sheen, like what I had with the primer. When I ran my hand over it, a white dusty film was on my fingertips.

      Definitely 1 full can should be used for a kitchen sink. Make sure you give it at least 3 full coats possibly 4 coats. You want to make sure the thickness is enough. So how close you spray and how far away will determine the thickness of each of the coats. Alos make sure you wait in between to prevent runs or drips

      Same problem here, I think it is impossible to have a smooth coating the way it is shown in the video. The powdery stuff is the paint debris of the cloud from the spraypainting that you simply cannot avoid. One probably has to be much closer with the paint nozzle to get a perfect finish but then it is easy to spray too much. I have found no solution other than that a roll-on paint is the safest bet.

    How easy is to do this to a kitchen sink where the sink is brown and fading. I’d like to replace it but it is going to be $$$$ as it is under mounted into granite and it appears to be a custom sink.

    • @DPTubs
      @DPTubs  Před 2 lety +2

      It’s definitely worth a try since you will be saving quite a bit of money even if it’s temporary. This is the best time to Reglaze, when there is an under Mount sink.

    Great video, mostly... the unfortunate repetitive music makes it difficult to hear some of what you say in some parts. If you have to add music to the video, it would be helpful to keep it at a relatively low volume, so as not to obscure your voice.

    The Krylon Tub and Tile isn't drying glossy it is matte and rough

    • @DPTubs
      @DPTubs  Před 2 lety +1

      If it’s matte and rough that could be how far away you are spraying it or if you used primer and didn’t sand it.

    • @tRRickedOut
      @tRRickedOut Před rokem +1

      If it is rough, you are spraying too far away and the material is partially drying in the air before it gets to the surface. Also, if the surface isn't completely smooth before starting, then you going to add material on top of an already rough surface and end up with...... A rough surface ;)
