      Good choice. My fam drives all benz. I’m China, US, Canada. My brother has the C63, luxury interior, but when you lightly tap the pedal, it doesn’t just jump, it FLIES! So all I’m saying is, I agree! At the end of the day, they did invent cars...

    I have had my C450 for about 4 weeks now and just went over 1,000 miles. Your review is right on. I drive around town in Sport and on the highway in Eco (31 mpg). The car has a luxury interior that makes you feel good every time you get into it. I have the all season tires because I wanted to drive it in the winter. Great luxury driver with great performance when you want it.

  • @utbronco
    @utbronco Před 8 lety +4

    The C450 AMG is beautiful, mine is almost 4 weeks old, Black exterior with Cranberry Red Leather. It goes like the wind, is fun to drive and an amazing car,,,EXCEPT. On January 19th we were driving to an appointment playing music on an SD card, driving in "Sport Plus" and all of a sudden the Command Screen went blank and the car was placed back into Comfort Mode. We pushed the button to get the screen back on but it didn't work. 2 or 3 minutes later the screen came on by it's self with the "AMG" welcome picture. Put the car back into "Sport Plus" and in a few minutes it happened again. This happened several times. We got to our destination shut down the car, got out, tried to lock the doors with the KeyFob, it wouldn't work. We locked the doors by touching the door handle. By the time we got back to the car it was fine. The Car has been at the Dealership since then, they have not been able to replicate the problem. I'm picking it up today and hoping for the best!! Seems to me this could be dangerous, who knows what else might shut down when going 80 on the Interstate.

    • @ljostarter
      @ljostarter Před 8 lety

      That I cannot help you with. All I can say, is if it happens again, bring it back to the dealership and have them hook it up to the STS. If they can find anything the can create a PTSS case with MB to have it resolved.

    • @utbronco
      @utbronco Před 8 lety

      +ljostarter I followed your advise. Since then we have had a "Check Engine" light, the Service Manager said it wasn't serious but I decided to have it towed into the Dealership. The first call from them said they couldn't find the problem and also they said they did see that I had driven it at 135 mph, like that was a problem? I never have driven it that fast, 85, is probably the fastest but hey, this is a C450 AMG, shouldn't it be able to go 135? Anyway, they called back and said the 135 was kph not mph and that they had found a loose hose going to some canister dealing with emissions. We have had a few error messages on the in yellow indicating something was wrong with the "Stopping Assist"?? and after the car is shut down and restarted it goes away. Now several weeks later I'm hearing a grinding in the rear end, only occasionally but a grinding just the same. This dealership won't find anything when I take it in, they will probably accuse me of driving in reverse at 50 mpg, who knows. I'm so sorry I bought this car, it's my 4th Benz and by far the worst. I'm very disappointed. It's a beautiful car, it does move like the wind, it sounds amazing, but I can't depend on it to go anywhere but to the grocery store or out to lunch. I have been in contact with MB in New Jersey but they are, at least at this point, not able to help!

    @RoderickMacdonald Před 8 lety +2

    This review helped me make up my mind to buy this car and I love it. It certainly has personality, its fast and the road holding with the AWD set up is awesome. If you travel to the mountains or live in snowy place the AWD and all season tires mean you don't need to buy a separate set of winter wheels or, under most circumstances, use chains. The fold down back seats enables you to carry all your ski equipment inside the car. I've owned many BMWs and Mercedes, this C450 AMG Sport is an astonishing combination of fun, practicality and yes, value.... it looks good too. Thanks for the review.

  • @ygxoyn
    @ygxoyn Před 8 lety +2

    Great review as always! To your question, I think the C450 is a good balance between performance, style and value for money. It makes sense for those who want a C-Class that drives and looks sporty but don't want to go all the way or can't afford an C63. But I tend to believe that there is a place for a mid-level C-Class but without all the "sportiness" - and it was the C400. Not everyone who wants more performance in a C-Class would appreciate an exhaust burble or a red seatbelt. If Mercedes were to keep the C400 in its lineup while adding the C450, everyone would have her flavor. But I wouldn't fault Mercedes to ditch the C400 in favor of the C450 if only 1 can survive.

  • @jerzsubbie
    @jerzsubbie Před 8 lety +3

    Thanks for the review, thorough and engaging! Yes, this is exactly what I want to see from MB. Luxury shouldn't have to be bland, and sporty shouldn't have to be unrefined. An AWD luxury sport sedan that can do 0-60 in 4.x sec and also get 30mpg hwy is a winner! So now it's 335 M sport or C450...

  • @wsboxer1
    @wsboxer1 Před 8 lety +4

    Very nice review. As to your questions, yes I think this is the personalty I want in my Mercedes. More to the point, I like having the option of this being my Mercedes. You never want your brand to pigeon hole your customers into a certain style. The more options you have the more potential customers you have. You said that in the past you had Mercedes (luxury), Audi (middle), and BMW (sporty). I am so glad this is not the case anymore. I want a sporty fast car but BMW has never done it for me. I can honestly say I have never done a double take to a BMW and said "wow". Of course this is personal preference but having the option to get the brand/look you want combined with type (sport/luxury) says great things about the market between these three companies.
    Likes: Pretty much everything. Specifically the exhaust note is fantastic. Love the fact that it holds your driver settings for four hours at a time.
    Dislikes: Not sure about the negative camber. Does it really add that much to performance? Tires are not cheap..
    It looked like your tester did not have the AMG Sport seats but the standard sports seats. Were they nice? Did you get a chance to sit in one with the AMG Sport seats? I saw at 12:01 the ambient lighting on the center console. Was it nice? Probably not noticeable during the day.
    I can't say if I would change anything about the car since I have not driven one yet. A few cosmetic things I'd like to change (the back end of the whole C class lineup could use a tweak) but so far it looks like a great addition to the lineup.

      @MotoManTV  Před 8 lety

      +wsboxer1 So good timing of this . . . at the same time I drove that C450 AMG, I had a C63 s back in California so literally went from 'normal' Sport Seat - C450 - to the full on Sport Seat - C63s. Of course, I am going to say I prefer the full sport seat, but then again I am broken in that I like Lotus and cars with racing seats . . . Really depends on what you are doing with the car.

    • @wsboxer1
      @wsboxer1 Před 8 lety

      +MotoManTV Good to know. This would be a daily driver (for me anyway). I love a good sport seat as well but also would like it not to bounce my spine all over the place.
      Also it was really nice to hear you going in thinking that it would just be a little tuned up normal car so they could move AMG's. I was thinking the same thing and I am very glad you seem to think it is better then that.

    • @aaroneberle5920
      @aaroneberle5920 Před 8 lety +1

      +wsboxer1 Both style of seats are very nice. If you'll never consider a trackday than I'd save the extra money as the standard seats are more comfortable. The AMG seats are pretty darn comfortable given how they look; daily driver yes, long trip maybe. Ventilation has never been an option for the AMG seats, it was* for the sport seats, but they may have changed that.
      There's no way Mercedes puts a ton of camber in this car. It's a double-a-arm so it'll have dynamic camber gain through articulation. Even so, I'd imagine tire wear won't be an issue. More camber if you end up on the track, it'll probably suffer from copious amounts of understeer.
      I'm with you though, BMW is falling (or leveling out at least) while everyone else is improving their products in one way or another. Maybe BMW brought their new design a little early (2012-ish) and now the competition is new and fresh. My Lexus has better steering feel than the newer BMW's and Mercedes now has nicer interior styling. That's why MB, Audi, and Lexus will continue to be on my radar moving forward. The C450 sedan/coupe will absolutely be on the list come 2016 when I return my lease. Best of luck to you as well!

    The personality is exactly why after 9 years, and 3 different Audis (D3 A8, D3 A8, C7 S6), we're switching to the C450 AMG Sport. Not only were we looking to downsize, but this thing is just bonkers good in terms of fun, function, and looks. The interior is still not as good as Audi in terms of design (and especially the MMI), but it makes up for that in pure charisma. The last week of January cannot come sooner.

      It has been nothing but a joy thus far. I haven't experienced a hiccup in the driving, media interface, nor overall operation of the car. I still think that the Audi MMI is markedly better in terms of looks and operation, and I still think Audi offers a better interior in the B9 A/S4, but the C450 (now C43 AMG) is still a fine place to be.

    I would agree with previous posters that this is the personality that I would like in a Mercedes. In fact, realistically you have to say that this car has 'multiple personalities', as you so well showed with your witty dialects. As I have posted here in the past, I really like the idea of adaptive dampers, as, with the adjustments to steering, throttle mapping, and e-nannys, you get whatever driving dynamic you want. This particular M-B seems to be a real sweet spot in their line-up, one that should have broader appeal than many of their models. The only thing I don't really like about the car is pure personal preference, and has nothing to do w/ the quality of the car, and that is I would prefer a slightly larger vehicle. I wonder, does the E-class have a model analagous to the C450?

The new 4 cylinder C300 it's underpowered while the 4 cyl acts too much like a 4 cyl Toyota. I want more speed while keeping the lux (BMW interiors are dated and boring) but I don't think there is a need for the c63 for everyday driving. @MotoManTV  Před 8 lety +7

      +Salman Salmanpour Tough call . . . but if push were to come to shove . . . I would probably do the C450 for no other reason than the fact it was derived from a RWD car - not FWD.

    • @JMaherWRX
      @JMaherWRX Před 8 lety +3

      +Salman Salmanpour The CLA45 isn't an "AMG Sport" model... its a true AMG, not a poseur like this one. If you want a nicer interior, buy the C450. If you are a driver and prefer performance, the Real AMG will be the better choice. Own a CLA45 myself and have zero complaints with its performance. It competes on track with sedans with well over 500hp.

      C63 non S coupe vs CLA45. Wonder if it's worth extra price for V8? Insurance and gas maybe a factor, however new 63s = 30% better MPG than 507 c63 and has better dyno curve and EZ tune 700hp

    • @aoalr
      @aoalr Před 8 lety

      I say C63 (s if you can get it). Worth the extra price for the exterior and kinda the interior upgrade too, but most importantly the engine. It murders and sounds superb. The C63 Coupe is amazing too and I especially love the taillights.

    • @JMaherWRX

      +Miguel Rodriguez How is it a poser car? It's solidly built, has a great powertrain, great features, nice materials inside and like any MB it will have that solid and heavy feel. The top notch model isn't really necessary and I'd spring for something like this because I will actually use it to it's max versus the AMG which is so OTT I might not get my money's worth.

    • @Grim67894

      And heck, I wouldn't even call anything but the base-model CLA a poser car. The CLA 45 AMG is a solid car as well, if a bit cheap for a Merc, and I'm honestly impressed with how much power AMG was able to get out of that inline 4.

    I love the car!!! And yes I do want that kind of personality in a Mercedes actually Merc's had never been into my options since they were a bit too old fashioned and grandpa styled for me. But with this C class all that changes and At last you can have the Luxury of a Mercedes with with the driving and modernism or BMW and Audi. The only think I would change is making the screen retractible or embedded it looks a like if it was and iPad glued to the dash.
    Thanks!!

    I owned a 2008 BMW 335i for 7 years before buying this car. 300HP/300FT-LB torque - good! Replaced the fuel pump, water pump and ignition coils all before 70K miles - bad! Switched to Mercedes hoping for better reliability. Bought the C450 since it is a perfect blend of performance, luxury and price within the $50k-$60k price range. (I negotiated price down to $50.5K from $56.5 list which included leather seats, LED Xenon lights and 19" wheels). Comparable cars considered were BMW 340i (less power, 2WD), Audi S4/S5 (less power), BMW M2 (less torque, too small), Mercedes CLA45 (4-banger noise), BMW M3/M4 and Mercedes C63 or even Lexus RC F (more expensive). Thank you Mercedes for stepping out of your comfort zone and finally creating car that can lead the sub $60K performance luxury car market.

    I’d just bought a c63s after I have had Porsche for last two decades. Carrera, Carerra S and GT3RS. Just need a break from Porsche. I really like the new Mercedes AMG line. I picked the C series due to its size. Not keen on driving a boat. As my brother gave me his 300SD a decade ago. I drove the diesel for five years time. It was a solid car family sedan. Although a bit big for me.
    Like the new Mercedes line.

    Is this the personality I'd like to see in a Mercedes, you ask? What I like is the fact that the car can take on different personalities (i.e. different driving modes) based on what suits one's preference at any given moment. It's also sporty enough looking, but not too Fast & Furious. I think MB could have gone further, though. I wish the car could be given a "quietly" assertive personality rather than a loudly aggressive one. Like an athlete that is quick and agile, but doesn't feel the need to talk trash. Specifically, a car that let's its performance do the talking without the need to have artificial engine/exhaust notes pumped though the speakers, or calculated misfires injected into the engine. That's like a kid putting playing cards or balloons between the fork and spokes of this bicycle to make it sound like a loud engine. Tricks are for kids. MB should allow owners to just keep it real (and quiet), if/when they so choose.
    Other than that, I'd like to see MB do a few other things for this car...
    1) Add the vented and cooled seats that were offered on the C300 (and I believe come with the C450 when optioned in Europe)
    2) Incorporate Car Play, already, instead of just talking about it forever
    3) Offer some real AMG caliber wheels as options. The current offering is lame when compared to that real AMGs.
    Other than that, it seems like a great car from what I've seen and experienced so far.

      +Strfry Have not driven the Jag so really can't comment from a driving dynamics stand point. That said, have gone over the details of both and can say the interior of the Jag is lightyears behind the C Class and most other cars in the class. Same goes for the XF. From an exterior design perspective - which is admittedly subjective - I much prefer the Benz.

    • @Strfry

      +MotoManTV Same thing I was thinking...the Benz, or Benz in General, just has so much more refinement for the interior. I've seen some other CZcams Vids doing test runs of the XE S, but I think Jag should put you in one...like yesterday! Good stuff MotoMan!

    Do I remember? ssssssshhhhhhhhhhhiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttt, my first memory of an interior trim was that particular wood from my father's Mercedes SE!Love the interior configuration! however, I'd go with something else for the exterior.Don't we all love the "Controlled MisFire!" Especially with big AMGs!yea I think there's a place for a mid-level thing ... luxurious yet packs a quite punch! it would be most welcomed in countries that taxes engine displacement or Emissions. a Full-AMG C63 might be a too expensive as a result while a Half-AMG C450 can pass without hefty taxes.plus, Mercedes could use a contender for the XE S, S4 & upcoming ATS Vsport & M340i segment.As always, Excellent episode M!

    Hello @MotoManTV thanks for these C450 and GLA reviews.. barely anyone out there has any but thank you for this.
    I test-drove 3 different C450 AMG (different days and different dealerships).. I did not get any WOW factor yes it was REALLY GOOD.. But the GLA 45 was definitely WOW... 335 was not WOW, 340 is Almost WOW .. Can you compare the 340 M-Sport w/ Adaptive M Suspension or Tracking Handling pkg ? To see how it compares to this C450 AMG Suspension ? I know the C450 has cool features in the suspension part but it def doesnt' feel like 362HP/384tq infact the 355/332 in the GLA 45 felt much faster. Thanks

    @motomantv at 9:45 you state the car will stay in the specific dynamic select mode if you turn off the car and come back to it later. It does not do that. I have tried it in my C300, and at the dealership in a C450. I have read the manual and it says every time the engine is shut off, the next time the engine starts up, the Dynamic Select will go back to the Comfort Mode.

      +MotoManTV First off I love your videos, very very helpful!! I'm driving a 2016 C450 AMG and have the same issue as ljostarter reported, each time the car is shut down the "Dynamic Select" returns to "Comfort". I wish I could look at the actual manual, they shorted me on the manual and MBrace sent me a PDF of a C Class Manual and it says it will return to "Comfort Mode" each time the car is shut off. I've had the car almost four weeks and still no manual, they are checking today to see if the C450 has a seperate manual or if the C Class Manual covers it. The Dealership is going to do their best to get me a manual today.
