Thanks for the detailed review. I've had my C450 for 2 weeks, and I would agree with most of your comments. So far I love the car. Coming out of a 2012 C350, I certainly notice the size increase. I still have the c350 and it's really obvious when they're parked side by side.I wish MB had kept the new model a bit closer in exterior dimensions, although I do appreciate the larger interior and trunk space, so it's a worthwhile trade-off in my mind. I also wish the exhaust sound had a bit more bass note to it, more like the C350, even though it wasn't as loud. Since I have a ways to go until I'm through the break-in period, I haven't had a chance to enjoy Sport+ mode and all the performance of the car. Something to look forward to.
Sorry, but your size is normal. Your driving position is not! :D I know it is not my business, but as I can see your seat is really far from the sw, and it is too low. Especially during sporty driving. IMO! Good review! Thanks! ;)
ritseee Was gong to make this same point. After attending two driving schools, they really get on you about your position in the car. Laying back like that is an accident waiting to happen if you are involved with "spirited" driving. Also, if you drive long distance, your shoulders will be so sore and tired you won't believe it. Glad to hear he came around.

I don't mind it too much! The upside of it floating like that is that the dash can be lower, in turn giving greater visibility. I would just prefer the Audi style virtual cockpit in future MB cars.
Baby AMG but a screamer nonetheless. Been driving mine for over a year now and love it. Lightweight awd and the dual clutch 7 speed is flawless. Put the Kleeman tune and now pushing well over 400hp and 0-60 @4.1sec. Same black and red interior with red seat belts is such a dynamic combo as well. Anyone looking to get one I would recommend avoiding the 19"rims as the ride can be rough in sport plus. But for value and performance out the door used low mileage under $40k. For those in the know the C450 was only badged as such in 2016 so a bit unique as it lives life as a C43 now.
Wtf no parking sensors... this stuff should be standard or at least all C450/43 should have those, in this price category you must have those. same with LED headlights! (Even the base C class should have it, maybe a total base C160 doesn't need those) But your spec looks damn good, love the wood interior, not the carbon that most people will go for! Very nice review indeed. I would have certainly considered the C400 then car had it been out. I ended up with the 2014 Infiniti Q50s and now I'm mad at myself as the Q50s now has a 400hp twin turbo. This C450 definitely beats the Q50 on sound both inside and out though I still prefer the Q50's look outside in sport trim. I test drove the S4, but like you said, an old platform and the IS350 F-sport (too small inside).
I leased this exact car. The interior rattles and vibrations are awful. Took it to the dealer twice and they hear nothing. My 2013 C350 interior had none of these issues. The C350 was assembled in Germany. My C450 was assembled in Alabama. Buyer be ware.

About your point about the transmission delay. I often see people getting cars with Dual Clutch transmission and they just dont know what it is and how it works. A dual clutch cant jump gears in the same row(1,3,5/2,4,6) ffs. It shifts trough every gear in the row, so when you stop to quickly from 5th gear to full stop it takes time. Its the sportiest transmission but thats the sacrifice. You shouldnt be confused its normal. There is the standard wendler automatic in less sportier model which can jump gears. With dual clutch its impossible.
I bought the same car also coming from a bmw; 2011 535i. BTW the rear sensor for backing up is located at the top center of the rear window. You can see it from ur rear view mirror
Pretty decent review. I also have a 2011 335i xDrive and was waiting for the 440i xDrive coupes over the summer, but there were none to be found. I did take a really good look at the C450 and do like the overall look. The interior plastic is tolerable but I hate that LCD smack in the middle of the console. Even the one on the new 3 and 4 series take some getting used to.
Great thorough video. Found one of these with 17k miles for about $40k so. Very tempted. But the Audi S3 seemed more sporting after driving both. Have a 911 for sporty but the Audi was more fun but less comfortable than the C450. Decisions decisions.....

I got it from Mercedes Benz of Burlington. Those guys were amazing! It's primarily an AMG dealership and everyone there is very passionate about the performance side of the brand.

It was in Sport+ , definitely take a test drive in the CLA45 and the C450 (soon to be C43). They are both great cars, but the CLA45 drives a bit differently because of its FWD bias.
great take..thanks for posting! i also just got one and coming from a lexus, i really don't like the layout for the cruise control and the wipers (miss the center stick too)..but i get it's something to get used to (only been 1.5 months for me!) i really wished that the car had the exhaust button like the c63 has so that you can just have the sound say on sport mode (although the sound does open up a bit in sport but really opens up only in sport+). anyway, just my 2 cents..great job again!
Im pretty sure if you have a back up camera the sensors are standard. When you switched to the back up camera i saw the back up sensors icon on the display. They might be set to off.
They aren't unfortunately, check the configuration tool for this car. They are part of the Parking Assist package or Parktronic option (which this car doesn't have). You also get a bar of lights above the rear seats that shows the rear backup sensor proximity which this one doesn't have. Pretty certain of this as my C63S has it :)
What is the difference in C450 AMG vrs C43 AMG ? I understood it started as C450 in 2015 and from 2017 it became C43 AMG ? What are technical difference?

It was available at a BMW dealership near me (Herb Chambers BMW of Boston). I have been pretty lucky in my area with dealers getting early shipments of models :) My MB dealership was one of the first to have the new AMG GTR on the showroom floor and regularly gets rare models of cars, such as the OrangeArt edition CLA45 AMG and the now very difficult to find SLS AMG.
Thanks of your review of the 450, how bad were the tires? Am interested in getting the c43 with the new transmission thankfully so I wanna get a sense of how annoying were they.
Not 100% sure what about the tires you are asking, but I'll do my best to answer! My C450 came with Pirelli P-Zero's that didn't work great for me since I took delivery of the car in December (in Boston). So I switched them to Continental DWS06 (all seasons) that did great in the snow and cold. In terms of tire wear, I didn't really own or drive the car long enough to get to that point (6 months of ownership and about 4k miles).
thanks for this! much better than going through that thick manual! by default this car actually shuts off its engine at times when idling in traffic to save gas. could this be causing the delayed transmission response you were talking about? this feature can be turned off by pushing that "A" button on the right of that big dial in the middle of the car. i don't think you can set this as the default-- the car will always start up with this feature on. personally i hate it so i turn it off every time whenever i remember to.
It does not auto start / stop in sport + mode, only in eco, comfort, or if you have it enabled in individual mode. Unfortunately that is not the source of the lag, but rather the transmission getting confused (the engine is still running).
@@arcade15x Are you sure it's not the accident avoidance software? That's the problem I have with mine. Even 3.5 years and multiple updates later, it still occasionally refuses to move immediately after a quick flick of the wheel at low speeds. Turn off the safety software, and it moves, though.
Really sucks how this car is made in USA now. I would have bought it and so are my other two friends but, when I found out that it is made in USA I automatically changed my mind. These cars should be made in Germany, nothing against USA.
arcade15 Ehh..honestly, at 4800lbs, I think it can do better than 4.8. But, let's be honest, 4.7 vs 4.4 is relative. Not many of us really have the means of measuring, nor should we care. It's all about the feel we have when we're accelerating or cornering. It shouldn't come down to the actual "possible" figures.

you're sitting too far from the wheel mate, your arm shouldn't be straightened, that's not a good position to drive. Furthermore this is the main reason you have barely enough space to sit in the back seats
Totally agree with you. Since I went to the AMG driving academy, I have corrected my seating position so that my arms sit at a 90 degree or near 90 degree bend :)
Why do you call it AMG? That's misleading or what am I missing? The engine cover doesn't have the badge of the engine maker nor does your armrest have the AMG logo burned into. Should you not call it AMG trim?
My $0.02 for the cons of this car considering what they market it as (pseudo-prestige): - No Dual-clutch Transmission - Doors and trunk feel cheaper than the W204 (much lighter but cheap feeling) - W205 is more upscale than the W204 but the E-class lineup essentially makes it feel like it isn't worth that extra money over the CLA and beneath the E. - W205 COMAND system sticks out like a sore thumb; clearly an afterthought. - Halogen fucking lights are an actual standard option until you get the Lighting Package (Fuck you MB USA! Fuck the morons who thought this should be standard on a C450 let alone a C63!) - An AMG that isn't tuner friendly? NOOOOOOO THANKS!!! Audi is in the right ballpark when addressing the things mentioned above (minus the halogen argument)! BMW isn't as luxurious (IMO, the iDrive execution isn't as smooth as Audi's system) but they essentially nailed everything else! The 8-speed DCT of the 435i will ALWAYS put a smile on your face and while the S4 is due for a 3.0t change, the existing Supercharged S4 paired to the DSG is pretty flipping' sweet with torque throughout the power band (fucking awesome)! TL;DR: Mercedes rushed a product and got a bunch of early adopters' moneys (C400 is discontinued after a year with the boosted ECU). They have a LOT of room for improvement but I will admit, the marketing is working in their favor, but sadly the product is underwhelming for such bold advertising.. I had a W204 and have sat in a 2015 Lux W205 C300... They can improve on quite a bit for the W205 to justify the money they're asking but again, somebody will say I'm a lunatic and whatnot. Welcome to the internet, jerks! :)
You're right, I got my tranny's mixed (pun partially intended lol). Honestly after trying both vehicles, the Audi S4 has a good balance of power throughout the rev range, tuner friendly (see Unitronic's tunes and forget APR), and refinement over the 435i (I tried a Cabriolet). Granted the chassis is already refreshed, looks are subjective. It is only my opinion that I'd take an S4 > 435i > C43 AMG. Dinan's numbers simply can't compare with those of Unitronic although both are pretty reliable tunes in their own regard.
The 8spd ZF is a DCT. I don't get what you guys are talking about. Furthermore, Gary B: What are you basing all of this on? Not tuner friendly? I'm about to tune mine and have 500+ ft/lbs of torque. And I cross shopped the 340i Msport, 440i Msport Gran coupe, and the B8 S4 before deciding to go with my C450. They were all great cars and while I do with the benz had the ZF tranny, this 7spd "speed shift" unit is completely acceptable in comparison. after thoroughly test driving all of them, the c450 was just a more fun and better sounding car than the others. Plus the interior was leaps and bounds superior. I probably would have gone with the B9 S4 but it wasn't available when I needed a car so C450 it was.

The 7 speed in the 450 is not a dual clutch. I've had mine since 2016 and it is still running strong.

I slapped on a plug and play performance chip on my c450 added 80 hp and deleted mufflers it's a bad ass baby amg lol I'm happy :p

Do you have to be driving behind a car for the lane keeping assist and steering assist?
No. But if you are, it will follow the car in front of you. Which can be a problem if that car leaves the lane or initiates a turn.

@@NYAudioGuru Its just a slow transmision, they updated it with a 9 speed(instead of this 7 speed one) wich is much better.
@@4rd17 I've driven a newer C43 (same as my car, but with the 9 speed); the issue I'm referring to still exists.

The C43 will replace the C450 this year. The only difference is a new 9 speed transmission in the C43 as opposed to the older 7 speed in the C450.

The XE unfortunately doesn't sound anywhere near as good as the F type, between the BMW 340, Jaguar XE, and C450 AMG, the AMG sounds the best :)

arcade15 Ehh..honestly, at 4800lbs, I think it can do better than 4.8. But, let's be honest, 4.7 vs 4.4 is relative. Not many of us really have the means of measuring, nor should we care. It's all about the feel we have when we're accelerating or cornering. It shouldn't come down to the actual "possible" figures.
You're off by 1k lbs :) The C450 weighs 3,748 lbs. But I agree with your other points!

you're sitting too far from the wheel mate, your arm shouldn't be straightened, that's not a good position to drive. Furthermore this is the main reason you have barely enough space to sit in the back seats
Totally agree with you. Since I went to the AMG driving academy, I have corrected my seating position so that my arms sit at a 90 degree or near 90 degree bend :)

Why do you call it AMG? That's misleading or what am I missing? The engine cover doesn't have the badge of the engine maker nor does your armrest have the AMG logo burned into. Should you not call it AMG trim?

My $0.02 for the cons of this car considering what they market it as (pseudo-prestige):
- No Dual-clutch Transmission
- Doors and trunk feel cheaper than the W204 (much lighter but cheap feeling)
- W205 is more upscale than the W204 but the E-class lineup essentially makes it feel like it isn't worth that extra money over the CLA and beneath the E.
- W205 COMAND system sticks out like a sore thumb; clearly an afterthought.
- Halogen fucking lights are an actual standard option until you get the Lighting Package (Fuck you MB USA! Fuck the morons who thought this should be standard on a C450 let alone a C63!)
- An AMG that isn't tuner friendly? NOOOOOOO THANKS!!!
Audi is in the right ballpark when addressing the things mentioned above (minus the halogen argument)! BMW isn't as luxurious (IMO, the iDrive execution isn't as smooth as Audi's system) but they essentially nailed everything else! The 8-speed DCT of the 435i will ALWAYS put a smile on your face and while the S4 is due for a 3.0t change, the existing Supercharged S4 paired to the DSG is pretty flipping' sweet with torque throughout the power band (fucking awesome)!
TL;DR: Mercedes rushed a product and got a bunch of early adopters' moneys (C400 is discontinued after a year with the boosted ECU). They have a LOT of room for improvement but I will admit, the marketing is working in their favor, but sadly the product is underwhelming for such bold advertising.. I had a W204 and have sat in a 2015 Lux W205 C300... They can improve on quite a bit for the W205 to justify the money they're asking but again, somebody will say I'm a lunatic and whatnot. Welcome to the internet, jerks! :)
8speed DCT on a 435i? Lol ok. Lookup what BMW is using, it's the ZF 8 speed that basically every manufacturer now uses.
You're right, I got my tranny's mixed (pun partially intended lol).
Honestly after trying both vehicles, the Audi S4 has a good balance of power throughout the rev range, tuner friendly (see Unitronic's tunes and forget APR), and refinement over the 435i (I tried a Cabriolet). Granted the chassis is already refreshed, looks are subjective. It is only my opinion that I'd take an S4 > 435i > C43 AMG.
Dinan's numbers simply can't compare with those of Unitronic although both are pretty reliable tunes in their own regard.
The 8spd ZF is a DCT. I don't get what you guys are talking about.

Not tuner friendly? I'm about to tune mine and have 500+ ft/lbs of torque.
And I cross shopped the 340i Msport, 440i Msport Gran coupe, and the B8 S4 before deciding to go with my C450. They were all great cars and while I do with the benz had the ZF tranny, this 7spd "speed shift" unit is completely acceptable in comparison. after thoroughly test driving all of them, the c450 was just a more fun and better sounding car than the others. Plus the interior was leaps and bounds superior. I probably would have gone with the B9 S4 but it wasn't available when I needed a car so C450 it was.
