The Mercedes Benz C450 is a powerful, practical, and affordable car as an everyday drive for people you love to have a few extra horse power just in case. I am BMW guy but I love this Mercedes. I have always had BMW 3-series and enjoyed the sporty ride of a smaller sedan. I have been considering to buy another small sports sedan like BMW 340i, 435i coupe, or M4. After I saw the C450, I am very much leaning toward this car. Why? Here is why:
1- It has 362 hp and 384 lb ft.
2- It is ALL WHEEL DRIVE.
3- It has gorgeous interior design.
4- You can customize your driving modes (you cannot do that in BMW)
5- It is affordable ($62K very well equipped) not too $$$ like M4 ($80K+) in which you cannot get all wheel drive.
6- Ah! The exhaust sound! Beautiful!!!!
Neither BMW nor Audi do not have anything to compete with C450! I think it is brilliant.

+Safa Eslambolchi , c400awd, 450rwd $62k loaded sedan on local dealer lot. C63 base coupe with stand Berg stereo, etc $65k 488hp v8 tt. CLA45 isn't cheap, but features some cheap material and tiny motor that is over tweaked with 25psi stock.

Audi has the S4 and BMW has the M340xi what are you talking about? The C450 is an excellent car but it does have competition, also an underrated entry in this segment is the Q50 red sport.

Yes, I very much believe there is room for this. I currently own a 2013 C300 and have been following the c450 for quite some time. It is the car I am aiming for in the next 2-3 years. They certainly need a place between the C300 and the C63 for a few good reasons.
    1. Price - A new C is around 45-50k. A C63 can be 85-100k+. That is quite the price gap. The C450 is between 55-65k. People like myself cannot afford that C63 (yet hopefully) but we really want to get into a sporty AMG product. (Yes the prices are rough but they should be in the ballpark)
    2. Usability - I live in Minnesota. If you are using a car for your daily driver through the year you want either front wheel or four wheel drive. I believe that any northern state dwellers (and all of Canada) will agree. If you have a C63 and it's winter time....now you got rear wheel, ice/snow, and a bucket load of torque which can equal a disaster. With the C450 all wheel you don't have to have a winter car (or be crazy).
    3. AMG(ish) - Call me a loser if you wish but I love Mercedes. I have for quite some time and love the car I have. Being a car person I like to think I know about most of the various vehicles and stats in the brand. AMG holds a special place for Mercedes lovers. It's the best. It's the top. I am pretty sure there is a debate amongst AMG owners if the C450 is a "true" AMG. On one hand, it is not since it does not have the hand built engine. On the other it has AMG suspension, exhaust, AMG tuned engine, the side badge, and other things. Maybe it would fall to Mercedes themselves to determine if they include the sales of the C450 under their AMG numbers. Or just not try to make it a true AMG or not....make it it's own category (which it kind of is) AMG Sport.
As for all through the lineup, I actually don't think you can make an AMG Sport model for all classes. Maybe a C and E class, but once you get up into the M/G/S classes the prices are high enough where the people buying those cars don't really care about the extra 50k.
Thanks for the preview and can't wait for your full video!

In my driving test comparison with the CLA 45 AMG, there was no question from vibration and sound that the CLA was a four-banger, and anyone over average size would find the sports seats very tight. For me the C450 is a better blend of sport and functional characteristics in a sedan, particularly after replacing the C450 grill with an AMG aftermarket, de-badging the C450 and adding larger AMG and Bi-Turbo badges, and replacing the springs to lower the ride height. If you think you need more hp & torque, the ECU flashing is good for about 40 of each.

  • @120ail1

The way I see it is that the C300 is a nice performing car for driving to the grocery store, the office, and just doing everyday things. In the US, optioned out the way I'd want it, it would cost me $50,000. A C450 AMG Sport would be the fun version - something that would be a special treat, feel extra sport, and look great. I would need to spend $60,000 for the C 450 with options. For me the C 63 AMG and C 63 AMG S would come in at over $70,000, and I personally wouldn't be able to use the extra performance on a day to day basis, and wouldn't take the car to a track. So for me - the C 450 is a dream. You get the extra performance, sporty look, and great handling for a lot less money than an AMG car.

Hey Motoman, funny you should ask that. We just bought a 2015 C400 not long ago knowing full well that the C450 is coming. After some research I thought the right step up from a C300 (that's for me, at least) is the C400, not the C450. The C400 offers almost 50% more power and it retains the luxurious, relaxing and whisper quiet character of the C300. In contrary, I think overall the C450 is trying hard to be a sports sedan - not everyone in this market will appreciate a red seatbelt, carbon fiber instrument cluster inlay and a quad exhaust tip (with more volume?). I'm sure the increase in power/torque and a more sporty F/R torque split will help, but I'm not sure if it is the right character for a medium between the C300 and C63. The C400 is (or used to be). I'm happy that we bought the car we wanted. But I hope the C450 is going to be as successful as the other C-Class variants. Looking forward to your full review of the C450! - Ben

UK here. About to buy a C Class. It seems that mercedes are improving tech and quality on the compact exec sedan and derivatives. The new Coupé in the EU looks even more like a mini S Class than the sedan does with the rear lights being extended. Airmatic suspension is an option too and so are all the latest driver assists.
I would assume that they will give the same treatment to the E Class.
In the UK, for many years, the only sedan in the top 10 selling cars was the BMW 3 series. In 2015 it is the C Class. Mercedes have that all round appeal, solid performance, great tech and outstanding design.
And yeah, these C Class cars in all their variants look great in red. Mine you, the new Coupé is also availabelm in Brillant Blue and that looks nice on the grades with a lot of chrome.

As for question about the fit....I'm not sure that the AMG Sport concept translates to the other classes, but it's a great fit in the C Class line-up. I was close to buying a BMW 335i/435i, but I wanted something with a nicer interior. The performance of the C450 does not leave me wanting and the interior is much nicer than their BMW counterpart's (that is, as long as I can still get the cooled and ventilated seats offered on the C300/C400!!). Very nice job with the video review, by the way.

there is definitely room for the Goldilocks concept for these cars.
I'm live in Las Vegas, and am originally from south Orange County. I drive a lowered slightly modified 2006 G35 coupe and a 535xi with coilovers and a Cobb tune.
Mercedes needs this because unlike the BMW or Audi , it is extremely hard to modify. Atleast from box to car modifications, I've seen exhaust and suspension upgrades but that's about it.

I think it's a great idea to have a middle ground C-Class - that way you ca have a comfy ride to work, or an aggressive drive through the back roads on your way home. The C-Class is such a big car for Mercedes (at least in Canada), and having this middle ground option would be a lot more attractive to the average owner; not everyone wants, or is able to handle 577hp of crazy. Personally, if I had the money, I'd buy the C450.

  • @jimfastlane28

Base model here in the uk for petrol is the C200 (184bhp turbocharged) which is what I currently have as a company car in AMG Line. We mainly choose diesel here and there are C200 and C220 models. I would definitely consider the C450 next depending on the car tax, think it's s great addition to the range as the C63 is around £70k and this new model is supposed to be around £40k. Sounds great as well plus addition of 4wd would be a bonus with the crap UK weather. Probably got as much power as you actually need for everyday driving. The C200 is OK performance wise (0-60 about 7.4 for auto) but the 4 cylinder engine doesn't sound great at all when using the Rev range.

A stupid law prohibits diesel cars for personal uses, I think it's from a time when the country was short of diesel so they made the law to keep the trucks running. To get a diesel you have to buy a SUV and an imported one because no one is producing them here yet. Few months ago the project that takes the stupid law down went to senate but I doubt it will pass

+Fred Schriks I assume it's because of the highly successful ethanol fuel program they have in Brazil. Because sugar cane (as opposed to corn, which we use for E85 in the US) is so high in energy, it's a really useful way to make power. The great majority of cars in Brazil are flex-fuel and can run on ethanol.

SEAT COOLING and VENTILATION? Can you, or any of your MB sources, comment on the cooling and ventilation of the leather seats offered on the C450. The C300 and C400 premium package came with perforated ventilated and cooled seats. The brochures and MBUSA configurator for the C450 show perforated (ventilated) leather, but the U.S. cars being shipped at the moment do not have the perforated leather with cooling/ventilation. Is this a temporary supply issue. or has MB eliminated this feature? And, if the latter, why would MB downgrade the seating on the C450?

Yes, to your question about line-up.
I drive a C250CDI Estate, Personally I don't want a A class it's great but too small (my wife would though), and I don't want a E class it's great too, but too big/heavy. C-class is the perfect match for my/our needs, I want a petrol next time and I want a V6, so it's a C300 and up I would be looking for. I would noop the C63 because it would be way too expensive to buy and insure, furthermore it uncomfortable (and crazy) on a daily basis driving. So what's left for me, well C400 and C450AMG if I want a car with a high fun factor but also daily comfort as I see it :)
Living in Europe/Denmark we have all kinds of weather conditions here 4Motion is great.
C450AMG would be a very good package with a great price / fun / value rate.

I haven't tried out the 340i yet but I'm expecting it's no match for the c450. However, I don't see any future for these 6 cylinder engines anymore because the taxes are really outrages not so with the hybrids like c350e. So maybe this is the last chance to go for 6s.

I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota and this is not a car that would interest me. With that said, I can see why it exists. I drive a V8 Hyundai Genesis. 388hp/333lbs RWD. With snow tires, it's a fine winter car. I've rented several well equipped cars in this segment.
BMW 335i, Cadillac ATS 3.6 AWD and 3.6 RWD, 2015 Mercedes C300. In Arizona on some of the unpaved (and terrifying) mountain roads, the ATS had more than enough power. In South Dakota, where the mountain roads are more smooth and curving, my Genesis is a blast to drive, as there isn't as much need for cornering ability and the V8 provides great fun. But... in Florida, on flat, straight freeways with 90mph traffic the 335 and the C300 were adequate, but not exciting. I'm not silly enough to think I can use the ability an M3 or a C63 can offer, so this seems like it is a perfect in-between.
Would I want this car on unpaved mountain roads in the desert? Probably not. But I'd love to drive this in Colorado, or South Dakota, or California...or on the damn flat, straight freeways in Minneapolis or Florida.

Most of the Mercedes back ends look awkward to me. It's a deal breaker for me and I would look to see a refresh on the back.

MB offers 36 coupes, sedans & verts (excluding crossovers & SUVs) in various configurations. IMO, too many and to confusing. BMW offers about 20 variations of coupes, sedans and verts. Choice isn't necessarily a good thing.

is there going to be a GLC 450 AMG Sport on the market?
Btw, how do you compare the audi S4 with this C450 AMG?
    Thank you!

      @reaksmey23 Před 8 lety

+Liu P Audi has not released the new S4 yet. so it is hard to compare only base on number that been given by Audi. for interrior and technology, i think Audi is better than MERC. who care? as long as you love either one is good.

  • @IceDree
    @IceDree Před 8 lety

I can see room for growth in the 'AMG Sport' family, they already have A250, C450 & GLE450 AMGs & an E450 is kinda inevitable ... but i don't see Mercedes keeping the V6 once they unveil the new inline6 in NAIAS. As for an S450, I have my doubts ... can't show up in a 362hp V6 to take on a 445hp V8 750 MSport ... that's like bringing a knife to a gun fight.
I'm with you on the color... the new C shines in Blue (there's a blue C250 near by) & i once saw this really cool Orange-ish one (could be red or copper... it was at night)
I'm glad Mercedes finally decided to take 'AMG Sport' seriously instead of just being Cosmetic upgrades & floor mats.
As for the mirror housings, I never liked black housings ... reminds me of those ecoboxes where you have to pay extra for body-colored ones ... ugh.

Frustrated again,. Whyyyyyyyy AWD only? It's fine as an option, but infuriating being the exclusive choice. I have no need for AWD, does not snow here. And I would glad trade away the extra weight, ruined handling dynamics, and decreased reliability.
