“Genocide”: Top U.N. Official Craig Mokhiber Resigns, Denounces Israeli Assault on Gaza

- A former top United Nations official in New York joins us for an in-depth interview about why he has resigned after publicly accusing the U.N. of failing to address what he calls a "text-book case of genocide" unfolding in Gaza. Craig Mokhiber is a longtime international human rights lawyer who served as director of the New York Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. His resignation letter has gone viral. In one of his first interviews since leaving his post, Mokhiber tells Democracy Now! the U.N. follows a "different set of rules" when addressing Israel's violations of international law, refusing to utilize its enforcement mechanisms and thus "effectively" acting as "a smokescreen behind which we have seen further and worsening dispossession of Palestinians." He says it is an "open secret inside the halls of the United Nations that the so-called two-state solution is effectively impossible," and calls for international actors to push for a "new paradigm" in the region based on "equality for all." We also discuss the inaction of the International Criminal Court, global suppression of pro-Palestinian advocacy, bad-faith accusations of antisemitism and more.

After that Israel could begin to eliminate Hamas and their advocates if they don't surrender. Also Hamas allies could maybe be identified in the refugee camps and taken out.
Personally I studied the history of this conflict for a while now. When you look from both perspectives you will not get the full picture I believe. You also have to look at the data and the reach of the interpretations of that data, so what actually happened and how exactly did things turn out. This will give a much more clear view of what is going on, based on the facts.
Why? Because facts matter, all facts and the whole context of facts. And when emotions get intense, let there be space. Space to heal, to become clear, to become open, to become and become together.
The next element is to work for a prosperous future where both people can coexist in a steady peace, with people that are willing to do that. Separated as neighbours, so both people can begin to heal slowly and slowly get some rest and get new hopeful and prosperous goals can bet set and pursuited with head and heart, hands and full dedication. How do you arrange that?
Only when both people are fully dedicated to work for a good working society, with good education, healthcare and economy for the children of the next generation in collaboration for the greater good. Only with extreme ownership and building it with your own people, but together on the same end goal.
If this is not the aim, on you will be the shame. Because you did not live to make a peaceful coexistence an assured future.
So, not looking backwards, but forwards. Backwards is where the pain is, forwards where the aim is. So walls, fences and restrictions can break down safely in the future. Very broken, traumatized and maybe even circular causality makes this conflict a cycle, a system that needs to be stopped. It begins with the head, the heart is probably too wounded to go along.
While this all being said:
People that want that are fit for begin on working for such a future, with all ups and downs. Failure is not an option. Both people owe it to their children and the governments in the world to protect each child, with our own in mind. Let that make us wise, humble, thoughtful, patient but not slow, dedicated but not forced, gentle, but not to settle for anything less than these peaceful goals for our children and in such a way that they become able themselves to work wisely, activity and dedicated for the generations to come. Why? So a sustainable peace can be accomplished. Don't do it for yourself, do it for peace, for grace, for humanity, for your children and their future, future values and valued life's, a life worth living.
Only in grace, healing, serving and understanding and working, step by step.
I wish and pray God will make this peace happen, for the Palestines and the Israelites. We humans need His power to be carried above our blind spots, indifferences, flaws, false excuses, weaknesses, emotions, instincts, preferences, behavioural tendencies and patterns, thinking and wishes and all things that can be a stumbling block to make peace happen. Since 2006 there has not been a single Israeli in the Gaza Strip. But on October 7 the residents of Gaza sent 3000 killers across the border. They killed civilians. They burned people alive. Raped girls. Dismember organs from babies. Beheaded. 1400 were murdered and 240 were kidnapped. The residents of Gaza elected Hamas in free elections because Hamas promised to kill Jews and all non-Muslims. Unfortunately, Hamas kept his election promise. The residents of Gaza celebrated in the streets on that cursed day.

Unfortunately that isn't true. A large percentage of people support this genocide, and most of them will say it doesn't count as genocide, and will often say that it requires extermination camps instead of the legitimate definition of genocide, as if that is an excuse.
Then why Hamas is doing the same? Trampling their own elderly and children for media coverage and human shield? Targeting civilians and fighting like cowards instead of facing the IDF? Are they scared of the IDF? Would they rather have their own civilian population die instead? Well, yes of course, Iran doesn't even care if the Palestinians die, they just want to cease the procedures to implement a pipeline of gas along the Middle East to make Europe not rely on Russia and thus trigger peace in the Middle East. He criticizes Israel for the death of palestinian civilians while holding no accountability on Hamas accountable for these lose of lives. Also he keeps on saying that Israel, the UN and US don't follow the rules of war while not mentioning that hamas don't follow the rules at all while they do way more horruendous things like killing babies, raping women and holding civilian hostages, something that israel will never do. And how the heck can he compare hamas who target civilians on purpose to Israel who only target hamas terrorists, but unfortunately these terrorists fight from public civilian spaces like hospitals, residential buildings and so on. So of course civilian will be in harm's way. that is exactly what hamas wants - they want their own civilians to die so they can cry about it to the rest of the world. The fact is that Israel has asked since the beginning of this war from civilians to evacuate to the south of gaza so they won't get caught in the fire, while hamas is using them as human shields by asking them to stay and is fighting out of their literal homes.
We need advocates on both sides, but not only in 'tribal' context. Perhaps we would miss some aspects that both 'sides' don't recognize or don't see/understand.
Yes we need that. All of humanity, all people. Sadly this conflict is here for way too long and this war has many faces. And war is terrible. And especially this war. The tactical elements of self defense are played out by Hamas behind their chields.
I wished Israel tried to swap the hostages for Palestine prisoners. And after that a refugee camp where the innocent and vulnerable can get shelter, food and healthcare and the time to flee.
After that Israel could begin to eliminate Hamas and their advocates if they don't surrender. Also Hamas allies could maybe be identified in the refugee camps and taken out.
Personally I studied the history of this conflict for a while now. When you look from both perspectives you will not get the full picture I believe. You also have to look at the data and the reach of the interpretations of that data, so what actually happened and how exactly did things turn out. This will give a much more clear view of what is going on, based on the facts.
Why? Because facts matter, all facts and the whole context of facts. And when emotions get intense, let there be space. Space to heal, to become clear, to become open, to become and become together.
The next element is to work for a prosperous future where both people can coexist in a steady peace, with people that are willing to do that. Separated as neighbours, so both people can begin to heal slowly and slowly get some rest and get new hopeful and prosperous goals can bet set and pursuited with head and heart, hands and full dedication. How do you arrange that?
Only when both people are fully dedicated to work for a good working society, with good education, healthcare and economy for the children of the next generation in collaboration for the greater good. Only with extreme ownership and building it with your own people, but together on the same end goal.
If this is not the aim, on you will be the shame. Because you did not live to make a peaceful coexistence an assured future.
So, not looking backwards, but forwards. Backwards is where the pain is, forwards where the aim is. So walls, fences and restrictions can break down safely in the future. Very broken, traumatized and maybe even circular causality makes this conflict a cycle, a system that needs to be stopped. It begins with the head, the heart is probably too wounded to go along.
While this all being said:
People that want that are fit for begin on working for such a future, with all ups and downs. Failure is not an option. Both people owe it to their children and the governments in the world to protect each child, with our own in mind. Let that make us wise, humble, thoughtful, patient but not slow, dedicated but not forced, gentle, but not to settle for anything less than these peaceful goals for our children and in such a way that they become able themselves to work wisely, activity and dedicated for the generations to come. Why? So a sustainable peace can be accomplished. Don't do it for yourself, do it for peace, for grace, for humanity, for your children and their future, future values and valued life's, a life worth living.
Only in grace, healing, serving and understanding and working, step by step.
I wish and pray God will make this peace happen, for the Palestines and the Israelites. We humans need His power to be carried above our blind spots, indifferences, flaws, false excuses, weaknesses, emotions, instincts, preferences, behavioural tendencies and patterns, thinking and wishes and all things that can be a stumbling block to make peace happen.
