If you notice, he did put a respirator with carbon filters on when he added heat to them. But, not when he was sanding and grinding, I guess he gets his RDA of iron that way.
I'm as much a sceptic as others when it comes to time skips, so I took a little time reviewing the billet before and after the time skips and saw the shape of the metal lined up on the ends and the layers I could see looked like they matched up with the strips of clipper metal. So, while I hate time skips due to their making things look suspicious (I would have sped the forging process up rather than time skipped to prevent haters shouting FAKE!), I believe the billet and blade was actually forged out of those clippers.
Well he uses alot more protective gear now I see compared to previous ones I watched...I'm glad he listened to ME 🤣 cuz I love to watch him do his craft and this vid explains why they were outta nail clippers at the pharmacy 💜💜💜
I've seen enough of his projects to see a pattern, the amount of borax he uses soaks into all the voids and prevents oxidisation and is forcibly ejected when he starts hammering (thats the liquid globs that fly out when he returns to the anvil), so that explains why his forge welds are as good as they are. As for how he manages to get it to stick together? loads of borax, lots of heat and constantly working the metal until it bonds together. As for the chrome plating? Many clippers are nickel plated, so maybe that is what he used, but thats neither here nor there since the heat treatment causes much of the chrome to oxidise and outgass (that explains the respirator), while his persistent forging would force any resudue to work into the metal and give it an interesting appearance. Perfect? nope, safe? there's a reason he's using that respirator.
I find it interesting the way the chrome on the clippers came out on the knife, I'd like to see the stress tests that it could hold up just being an unusual element for the blade.
It seems like a nice stainless steel or titanium steel and chrome Damascus and yes, chrome is a strange material for a knife but it seems like it is a fairly good material
He simply kept it very hot. As long as it is hot, it will finally bond together if hit hard enough and often enough. When the billet became solid you could hear the different, solid sound of it.
Beautiful blade and a wonderful job making it!!! The handle is just as beautiful as the blade and it a prefect match for the blade itself!!!! Now that's not anything I would have ever thought to make a blade out of HAHAHAHA Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Seems to start off strong but I think the end result could have been better not to mention the use of the saw blade was WTF. I'm surprised you still have fingers.
All of the borax seeped into the cracks and voids until the metal was struck by the hammer, the borax is squeezed out as the metal fills in those previous cracks and voids.
It's borax flux. It's an oxygen scavenger, it bonds to oxygen in the porous spaces so that the oxygen doesn't form rust in the steel and prevent proper welding. It helps prevent voids and cold shuts in the forged steel. Though I am amazed he pulled it off and got a solid billet from the loose metal he used here, suprised he didn't use a canister.
You are a master, have a great skills and imagination... But... Dude, make these knives FULL TANG!!!!! It's shame so beautiful knife with such a weak point like epoxy for fixing....
After watching you using fingernail/toenail Clippers, my mind is endless of what I can make a knife out of.
Smack needles
Safety glasses Bro... I am wincing everytime the sparks fly

Very nice! That cutoff wheel and unguarded saw blade kinda mocks the nail clippers. Keep that up and you won’t need clippers.

Glad to see you’re slowly starting to wear PPE. Some of your equipment though….god damn!
Chrome plated with no prep work, and open air! Not a chance, this is camera magic!
Lol I was wondering how he fuse that without removing the coating
@@gavic85 i mean there could be chance are he had medical grade stainless steel clippers

@@RainyDayForge and wearing gloves while using a grinder 😢😱
why not wear the respirator when he is grinding also
Excellent job 👍

wow, suprise it held and the amount of material👍
Even with the 10 pounds of borax he put on there I don’t understand how he got that mess to stick together
as long as you fold it enough itll all merge together
But shouldn't there be li,e a ton of coldshunts?

It's borax (as sodium borate), this materia prevents the iron from oxidizing when heated
