Shania was around before Talor, so it's the other way around! Taylor sounds/acts like Shania! Give credit to where it's due!
"That won't keep me warm on a long lobely night"! That's because Shania was raised in poverty in a little (mostly french) town in Northern Ontario, Canada!!

Her husband, Mutt cheated on her with her best friend! That is why they got divorced. She had a difficult upbringing and her mother and stepfather died in an accident and she was about 20 and took in her younger siblings and raised them while trying to get her music career off the ground. Her favorite song is Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors because she so much related to its message. She and Dolly went on Oprah at one point and she fulfilled her dream of singing the song with Dolly.

She was on the top of the Country charts when she got Lyme disease and lost the ability to sing. After many years and an experimental surgery, she returned to singing but never saw magnitude of success as previously. Her primary genre was Country but she crossed over quite a bit. She was pretty much every guy's hall pass back in the day.

If you want some other Canadian singers, not country, but likely some you never heard of.
Alannah Myles, Black Velvet, A Song Instead of a Kiss, Lover of Mine, Still Got This Thing to name a few.
Another Canadian artist to check out, if you haven't, is Sass Jordan's Make You a Believer.
Another, who due to issues with her past record label was on a 20 year hiatus and just came back with a new album last year is Amanda Marshall. Beautiful Goodbye, Dark Horse, Love Lift Me, Let it Rain, If I Didn't Have You, Fall From Grace, Trust Me, I'll Be Okay, Birmingham, Why Don't You Love Me, Marry Me, Everybody's Got a Story. Any song you pick, I'm sure you will enjoy and appreciate her vocals.

She's a country pop singer with a typical sound from the 1990's. Been listening to country most of my life, growing up as a child when I heard it on the radio because it was my mother's music choice (along with Elvis) through the 1980's to the present time. Personally, I've never cared for her singing or entertainment style but to each their own.

It's definitely more pop than country by this time. I think her first two albums were a little more country. Don't feel too bad for not knowing who she is. Yes, she was really huge in the 90's, but to be fair, even while at the height of her career, she was a pretty private person. Between her losing her voice and her going through her divorce, she withdrew from the public eye even more. Just kinda disappeared for years. I don't know any of the stuff she's done since returning. I did watch her documentary, though. Very strong woman. ❤

Your comparison is valid in that both Shania and Taylor are beautiful country-pop singers who were huge in their respective eras. Same with Paul Anka and Bieber: both were teeny bopper singers of bubblegum. Looking into the songs and careers of them you can see the differences which are much more than the outward similarities.

Check out some of her sexy songs like 'The woman in me' & 'You're still the one'. And her song/video for 'Man, I feel like a woman' is one of my favorite fun ones because the video is set up in the reverse of Robert Palmers video for 'Simply irresistible'. You need to expand your horizons on what constitutes "country" music. There is a lot of variety with a lot of influences from pop, rock, jazz and blues. If you start out as a country artist it doesn't matter if you put out some crossover songs that sound like pop or rock, so long as you don't disavow your country roots fans will buy it and country stations will play it. Some of her songs sound more "country" and some sound more "pop". Country fans are not so uptight as to not appreciate both. Most of us have very eclectic music taste anyway. I grew up listening to country music and 60s rock and roll. Now I listen to country, jazz, seventies pop, and disco.

Wow, I never thought of that-- probably because I haven't seen or heard her for ages-- but that Taylor Swift comparison really works for me. They even look alike, and they both, imho, seem to do a lot of catchy, not-real-deep songs with the same kind of tone.
If you haven't read about it yet and are interested in bio kind of stuff, you might want to check out the lead-in to her marriage to a guy named "Mutt"...and then the way it wound up. The woman's really been through it, and knowing what she went through makes me like her music more.
I hope you check out more of her stuff, esp the deeper stuff. And yes, seems pop to me. Then again, the more time goes on, the more pop takes over country (which, btw, makes the country purists practically puke).
And speaking of that, you should check out Alan Jackson's song about this very subject, called "Gone Country." I think you'll get a kick out of it.
p.s. I found a couple of things I think will explain and support your reaction to this song as pop rather than country-- and let you know both that you're not alone, and that you're in some good/elite company:

    Dude,
This is my first time watching your videos, I like the way you keep it real.
However, it really bothers me when I hear you call yourself an idiot, please stop that.
You are definitely NOT an idiot! You may have a problem with pronouncing names, who doesn’t? Especially names that originate in countries we don’t live in or know much about.
The Taylor Swift comparison, I get it.
I don’t like it, but I get it.
I’m not much of a Taylor fan.
Taylor’s career started after Shania’s, so technically, it would bet the other way around.
    But whatever.
When we hear a song that resonates with us for the first time, that’s the version that we usually prefer, even if it’s a cover of another artist.
There’s a song called “Desperado”, I think the Eagles originated the song, but the first time I heard it was Kenny Rogers, who I had the biggest crush on growing up. Linda Ronstadt did a cover as well, my favorite version is Kenny’s. The others are great, but Kenny sang it the first time I heard it.
I found out a couple of years ago that Lionel Ritchie wrote most of Kenny’s songs. Makes sense that I’d like them, Lionel was my very first (of 3 concerts I’ve been to) concert at age 15-1/2. Bought my own ticket, too.
Anyway, you’ve got a new subscriber. Enjoyed your reaction.
I just saw that you reacted to “Monsters”.
