      I'm not saying we don't have any talented players at all., because we do hAve a shit ton of talent. But I'm talking about the American mindset on how to play hockey compared to Canadian and russian mindset. And the reason why we beat Russia was cause Brooks adopted the Canadian/ russian school of hockey.

The first time I saw hockey was a black and white picture in a book and I have been in love ever since. Don't know why, don't much care. It is truly the best game I can name.

      Hockey is amazing... and as a Canadian, yes I play a lot of it.
      But, have you ever played Lacrosse? or Rugby?
      And.... have you ever been on a dirtbike before, and been in a motocross race?
      yes motocross is much different, but very much addictive; especially when your racing, not watching.

      @@terenceallen9880 Care to point out where I said hockey started in the UK? (I'm making the assuption that's what you've somehow taken from my comment).
      The OxBridge Varsity is the oldest still standing rivalry in hockey, assuming it was still hockey in 1885, and not Bandy, as some have since claimed. Great Britain also has a gold medal to it's name, becoming the first non-Canadian team to win the Olympic gold in 1936 (Albeit, with the help of two Canadian players). I wrote a thesis on the subject, so, suffice to say, I did my history. Did you?

    Bandy was "invented" in the UK. Hockey is essentially just a knock off from it. However, as hockey was selected as an Olympic sport, it grew larger.

    • @ricardosoto5770
      @ricardosoto5770 Před 5 lety +1

      Hockey was bandy improved. More intimate, faster and more viceral. The fact that is hard to get a rink the size of a football (soccer) pitch doomed bandy to very cold places like northern scandinavia and siberia. The smaller closed rink of hockey plus the hard checking made hockey a better spectator sport, and hockey gave the players more oportunities in the Olympics and profesional. Still I like bandy and its good that seem to be making a comeback, and its not just a footnote of sport history. Too bad it the documentary does not said that the game british soldiers were playing in Canada was most likely bandy. Many people that see a bandy game for the first time thinks its a hybrid of hockey and soccer, its the other way around...

  • @EdSZiomek
    @EdSZiomek Před 2 lety

    As a limited-educated, amateur historic researcher, I have read from at least one book of the etymology of the name "Hockey", and it seems to have ties to the ancient Eastern Hemisphere as well. The ancient Western-Eygptian God/Goddess of "Fishers, Fowlers, and Fertility", often with the zoomorphic form of the "Frog" was extremely sacred to the pre-dynastic Egyptians, because it represented the hunter-gatherers who 'found the food' for their survival. In an ancient indigenous, First-Nation friendly competition among tribal hunters, on the ice, a Christian Minister observed that the sticks used were swung at not just stones sliding on the ice, but also were used to smack the opposition, which caused the injured opponents to cry "Heka", which in the translation would be "God", or "God-dammit". The sporting event mimicked the hunting skills needed to take down Geese or Game who were on a distant end of the ice or water. Two modern day place-names for Heka would plausibly be Heka-Seca, Hackensack, the conjoined etymologies of Heka and Sekhmet/Seka, the Scottish tribes. There also is Keta-Heka, Crown of Heka, Kitty Hawk. And of course, the MoHawk tribe could show etymology origins of the "Tribe of Heka", Mhu-Heka, from the Egyptian tribe and Heka, conjoined references. I am sure there are 1000 other valid origins. A comical note in the identical reference to "God", is the term "Yahoo", which in Southern areas, were the vocalizations of the indigenous women in their love-making throes, where the God was Yahweh, or Jah-wah, Yah, most plausibly relating to "Jah-guar", Jaguar, the traditional Panther-Lion-God of the New World. Heka, Hockey, and Yahoo, these names are formed in sacred antiquity.

      +Hockey Boss It's ultimate history goes back a lot farther. It is like what football is to the United States. It technically came from rugby, but it is said to have been invented in the United States. Hockey was developed from other sports, but like the US, will always be claimed by Canada, as invented by them. I'm not sure where the game was originally formed, but take 1 step into Canada and I think it will be safe to say it is definitely Canada's game now.

      The US has won 11 medals, 2 were gold.

    I didn’t know Canada was segregated. Cool to know that blacks have been playing since the beginning.

    I know Canadians hate all of us Americans cause they think each and every one of us is a mirror image of trump, which couldn't be farther from the truth. If only they knew that. But from all the great things that have come out of canada, hockey has gotta be the greatest. This doc. made ya feel warm and fuzzy like it was a Christmas special broadcasted on the evening of Dec 24

      Trump is a nightmare, but of course we know all Americans aren't like him, nor do they all like him (35% approval rating). And for sure a lot of Americans love hockey! All sports can be great, but hockey is the greatest.
