Tesla Model Y - EVANNEX Solution for Spare Tire
Vložit
- čas přidán 2. 02. 2023
- When you take delivery of your new Tesla Model Y or Model 3, you will notice that the vehicle does not come with a spare tire. Tesla has rationalized this by stating their road side assistance is available 24/7.
But that may not be comfortable for many people who are used to having a spare tire in case of emergency. Although I personally have never had a spare tire in any of my Tesla's, even with substantial road trips under my belt, a recent accident in Tucson Arizona has highlighted the risk I am putting myself in by not having a backup plan.
Evannex has specially created this spare tire package to fit the Tesla Model Y "within 1%" of the Tesla specs to ensure no issues when in use. They also offer a similar option for all other Tesla's including the Model 3, Model S and Model X. In addition, you have the option to add a road side tool kit that will get you a scissor jack, tire iron, and gloves so that you can install this spare anywhere on the road.
For those of you that want peace of mind when traveling in you Tesla Model Y, this spare tire is a great option as it was developed specifically for the Model Y. Adding the optional tool kit will complete the package and give you security knowing you can handle any accidents that may happen on the road.

That price is crazy.
Right? Literally cheaper for me to order a curb-rashed wheel and throw a tire on it. 🤷
Great video. I recommend Modern Spare, less expensive and comes with the carrying case you mentioned.
And its not red! LOL
And modern spare isn't temp use only.... @@thinkforyourself765
Thank you, Bearded T. My wife and I just bought the model Y; I will talk her into buying the spare tire/jack, as well as the pucks. Please keep the pragmatic content coming. The new world appreciates you!
Appreciate you!
One thing to consider is by not properly securing to the body of the car like a OEM design is that in an accident that spare tire become a flying projectile hitting you in the back of the head killing you. Just saying.... Just ask your local First Responder what they think about a lose spare tire in the hatch
Fair point
Came to same as others. Modern spare and Tsportline have nice options for cheaper (including the jack and tools).
thanks for sharing.
Spare yourself the drama of not having a spare 😂 I’ll be getting one of these! Thanks, oh bearded one!
Haha cheers
Yup Honda, I got rear ended last weekend by a Civic and an Accord behind it for a 3 way crash. Anyhow hope everything is good thank you for the info.
Always a damn Honda
Did you test it? Did any warnings/lights on the dash show up
Ordered an Modern Spare 6 months before my Tesla was scheduled to be delivered in 2022; it arrived a month after I took delivery last year.
Nice
I have a spare for my Tesla Model S and it didn't cost $500!!! I ordered the RIM from BMW because the bolt pattern is the same. Then, I found a donut rim and tire from a junk yard. I took the tire from the junk yard and put it on the BMW rim. Tested out, works fine. Cost me just over $100.
Nice creative solution, thanks for sharing
I was thinking of getting a Trailer Hitch Spare mount if and when I get a spare tire so that you don’t have to store the spare inside which takes up space…since I have the hitch.
That’s a cool idea
Nice idea, but hauling a spare tire on a hitch mount will kill your battery's range. Just ask anyone who hauls bikes on the hitch mount, you can do it, but your range will take a big it.
I bought used spare tire from salvage yard. Same height, half width 18" compact spare $30. Electric jack $75. Throw them in the trunk for any road trips
Good idea
I almost had a close encounter with a Honda Civic going through Atlanta. Yay for horns.
Lol why’s it always a Honda?!?!
A tire repair plug kit and portable pump is all you need for nail and screw removal and tire repair. It's a pretty simple solution if you don't want to carry or don't have a spare tire.
That’s usually how I travel
Wont really help on a sidewall puncture like in the video tho.
Do you need a torque wrench when mounting Tesla wheels?
if yes, the correct torque setting? Does the torque differ between models and size tires?
Torque setting for Model 3/Y is 129 lb/ft.
Suggest you add those comments to the video- use a torque wrench set to 129 lb to tighten. Ideally use breaker bar or not same torque wrench to loosen.
3rd video I watch that doesn't cover the use of the included jack in a real world application. Not planning on taking a 2 ton jack on a road trip with me. There's plenty of desert here in AZ. Great video but would have loved to see how stable and quick the included jack would be on an uneven surface
BUT HOW DO YOU ANCHOR THE LOOSE SPARE TIRE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT???????
I bought an unused 2019 Genesis G70 2.0L RWD 18x4 T135/80R18 from eBay for $150. Modern Spare sold me the wheel bag for $60 and a travel ratcheting 2.5 ton jack kit for $50 on Amazon that I use for road trips. Check out the CZcams video for the Modern Spare alternate. It was pretty good but Modern Spare has the best wheel bag.
Nice job putting something more custom together
@@BeardedTeslaGuy I'm glad you don't mind. Despite owning a couple of Tesla's we still need to budget what we put into the car and a spare is absolutely necessary for situations like yours. Grateful to you and other Tesla owners who post solutions for those on a budget or not to unnecessary problems like no spare.
I love it! 1:11
Cheers
Price is insane. There’s plenty of Tired that’ll fit that are half the price or less simply because it’s not advertised for Tesla
LOVE the Vid from AZ we are crazy drivers lol
Yes you are lol
Is there any problem with having a smaller diameter tire, On the model why with all wheel drive?
Evannex claims it’s within 1% of the factory specs so should be ok
A smaller rim may not go on because it may hit the brake calipers. You have to check and see.
How do you match the spare’s rolling diameter to the opposite side tire to prevent differential bias?
Per Evannex website, these are within 1% spec of Tesla factory setup
@@BeardedTeslaGuy Thx, but what if you went to smaller/fatter tires for better ride/range/rim protection?
Tesla Y tires are not small objects. Carrying an additional steel wheel somehow doesn’t seem efficient. Can’t someone invent a portable and not-so-heavy gizmo to de-rim/re-rim tires, so that you literally only have to have a spare tire with you, not a tire and wheel…?? Perhaps something that gets bolted right onto the tire with the same lugs and lug nuts. And perhaps until needed the spare tire could be somewhat compressed, like an IKEA mattress…
(Kit would obviously include an air pump.)
So this kit would be about the weight of a wheel, and a tire and wheel is ready to go without the additional labor of needing to mount a tire to a wheel.
This kit idea is genius.
patch kit. If that doesn't work, call road side assist. No need for a spare. Would be nice sure, but there's nowhere to put it.
Yea, its not a bad idea to have that also. Only caveat is side wall
Hi. I have a few things so bare with me.
I have a Modern Spare Tire and it’s better. Max speed limit is higher and it’s cheaper. Check them out.
You need to tie those down because they’re heavy and it becomes a missile. Imagine being rear ended at high speed, that thing is going towards the front and it’ll cause major trauma to the occupants.
I took out the sun trunk tub and I placed a milk crate type bin and placed the spare tire on top. You can close the covers and nobody else would know that you even have a spare tire from under there.
Respond here on how I can contact u or vice versa and I can send you pictures of how I did it if you want.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks for sharing
Modern spare tire
ANY idea how many miles you can get out of it with careful driving ⁉
Probably quite a bit.
@@BeardedTeslaGuy 👍🙏
Has anyone ever used the spare tire from any old ICE car? Maybe the size maybe diffrent. Curious.
If you get the right size and bolt pattern I’m sure you can
Look into older mustang gts, like 2010-2014 or so, or Acura MDX. Both had 18” spares (to clear the brakes) and weigh about the same as a model 3.
Does this expire or change in March?
Uh, what?
Can’t you just buy the original wheel from eBay they go for around $400 and put it in. A whole lot cheaper and nothing to worry about. And as you state you only going to have that if you driving alone so I bigger tire is going to do no harm.
Sure you can
I assume that your rim is cracked and that is why the tire is not holding air.
The wheel was replaced, this one was a hole in the sidewall
That's the price of a new rim and tire! Not an option
What about torquing lug nut to 129 ft lbs!!
Yes indeed
Don't wait to get a flat tire, its just a question of when. Roadside assitance is a hustle, waste of time and money. Do yourself a favor and get a spare tire kit.
It’s not a bad idea to always have one with you
or AAA.
People still have AAA?
@@BeardedTeslaGuy We do - use it about twice a year for the family cars.
@@noleftturnsIm guessing those aren’t Teslas.
#hondabump
So sorry that happened to you.
Me too lol
Isn’t Modern Spare solution cheaper?
Make all 4 wheels red 👍💪
Red like Syed
Haha
Modern Spare Solution
I seriously doubt those lug bolts are tightened to proper torque, air wrench really. That is just SAD.
I jack up my car overnight for slow leaks. Seems cheaper to buy a full size wheel and tire.
Good tip
should have aired it up first..
maybe a little low
@@BeardedTeslaGuy plus I know with Porsche spares if you don't they are flat spotted or so they say ..
Model y performance now qualifies for the tax credit!
Just finished getting it uploaded!
I got mine on Amazon with the jack which includes the jack Puck and lug wrench for $339 and it included a very nice zippered carry bag that holds everything. The wheel looks exactly like that, but it's black instead of red.
I bought it after getting a flat on my 5 day old M3P which was quite the ordeal and I won't go through that again and my puncture was so bad the tire had to be replaced for $455.
Yep. I too recently did the whole Tesla “roadside assistance” tango for $430. That’s a fair price for the new tire (and labor), but it took two days. Tesla ain’t in the tire biz, so they usually don’t repair; they replace.
RIP OFF! Modern Spare on Amazon is around $400
Still a rip off 😂
Why can’t Tesla make the sub trunk ROUND so that customers who CHOOSE to carry a spare tire, have a proper place to store it?
I’m sure it’s to do with space available
Can we address how much of a douche that driver is that caused the damage? I'm surprised they pulled over for you
I had to chase him down. You should have seen his pants…would have said everything you needed to know lol
BTW, you do have a spare, it's called Tesla Roadside. We all have it for free
Way overpriced.
$550 for a spare? might as well just buy a used oem wheel and a tire
Stupid price. Carrying a unsecured spare tire in the vehicle is one of many dumb ways to die . If the crash don't kill you, the flying 40lb missile will.
Hard pass.
The price, mate!
