      so true, Yankees fan here and the biggest thrill is walking into 3 Yankee Stadiums in my life, but nothing in my life will ever compare to my first game in the original CAVERNOUS Yankee Stadium. The surroundings/energy/players... it's an experience of a lifetime.

      @@slicked9778also major leaguers will rehab at the minor league teams to come back from injuries. So you can go see them when that happens and a lot of times they'll sign autographs after the games.
      Also my local minor league team opens the gates at the start of the eighth inning so you can just walk in and they have a firework show after almost all the games during the summer.
      Also I used to work at one of the higher end restaurants in my town and there were quite a few times where after the game the major leaguer rehabbing would take the whole team out and buy them nice dinners.

    Rules for catching any ball heading your way: 1) Put your hands up, slight slit in the middle, 2) keep the ball in the middle of the slit, 3) when you feel the impact on your hands, close your hands immediately. If you can't see the ball in the slit, it will either hit your body elsewhere or miss you altogether. If you have a child, it might be better to focus on blocking the child's head than catching the ball. Balls are more easily caught with a glove. Put the open glove between the ball and you. If you can't see the ball, it'll likely hit the glove.

    • @jeffreyphipps1507
      @jeffreyphipps1507 Před 2 měsíci

      @@actadiurna6733 with a glove, it depends on the glove type. If a ball is kept in the pocket of a fielder’s glove, it won’t sting at all because the ball hits the pocket, not your hand part. The hand part is just for hanging on before release to throw the ball. First base and catchers gloves must stop maximum velocity balls, but usually don’t have to release as fast. There’s a slight delay in those gloves and they have more oil (or should to keep them supple) for better performance. However, as a result, after the play a ball used by a catcher will be inspected by an umpire to see if it’s oily and will be replaced if so. Some gloves absorb oil really well. Some won’t. Bringing a catcher’s mitt to catch fielding balls (foul balls) is the wrong thing to do. You’ll have less grip on impact. Using a fielder’s mitt, place the pocket between the you and the ball. When the ball hits the pocket, the glove, and your hand, will close around the ball automatically with no sting. Keep the glove closed and it’s yours.

    Growing up in the 70's baseball was a much more family-friendly environment than it is now. Lots of daytime games and I remember going to Shea Stadium and paying only $1.50 for the nosebleed seats. Peanuts were only 50 cents and hot dogs were a buck. Used to go at least a dozen times a year. When they built Citi Field, I remember finding out that the cheapest seats were $95. Don't think many middle class families could afford to take their kids to more than one or two games a year now.

      Well back in the 70's many stadiums didn't have lights which was a Big reason why. Now a lot teams have tried to have earlier start times though and I think Wednesday and Sunday games have the earlier start times currently.

      @@runrafarunthebestintheworld The Wed and Sun daytime games are nothing new. Those were the days I would go to see the Mets when I was in HS in the 70's. While I think that they always sold beer, I don't think it became a real problem until the 80's. I remember one game I went to with some co-workers during the Mets 86 Championship season and several fights broke out between drunk fans. I think it was around that time that stadiums stopped selling beer in the 7th inning. But to me the biggest problem with Baseball attracting young fans is the sheer cost of the tickets now - at least the cost in the big cities. Dunno if the tickets in the smaller cities have ramped up as much as they did in NYC but the main reason why I became a Mets fan in the 70's was the fact that I could afford to go see a game with my firends.

    I was so happy to see you guys visiting my old stomping ground Dodger Stadium! I often went to games back in the 1970’s and 1980’s before moving out of state. My favorite seats are what we called the nose bleed seats - the ones way above home plate. The view of the game is great up there, and the seats are cheaper. I think Dodger Stadium is the third oldest stadium in Major League Baseball, which began hosting games in 1962. It has held up very well over the years and is still a beautiful ball park.

      Awesome. The expensive, field level seats behind your team’s dugout, or home plate, are really cool, but I like those nosebleed seats too. And Dodger Stadium _is_ the 3rd oldest, behind only Fenway & Wrigley, of course.

      Close, but not quite right. Yes, they sing at least one verse of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” every 7th inning stretch. What happens after the first verse varies by stadium and the day. Most days, it varies by stadium. Some play a different song after “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”, others sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” a second time. Since 9/11, they’ll sing “God Bless America” (not “America the Beautiful” [FYI, America not “American the Beautiful fyi] on Sundays and certain holidays or other special days (4th of July, Memorial Day, 9/11, post-season/All Star Game). For a short while after 9/11 they sang “God Bless America” every game, but for 20+ years they only sing it on Sundays and the above mentioned special days.

He just kept taking me to games so by the time I was six I knew how to keep score on a scorecard. We always sat in the bleachers, which was pretty funny since we were both very light skinned. My mom made me wear a large bonnet. Some of my best memories of Cleveland are from the old municipal stadium, which sat 80,000. It has long since been torn down. I am 80 years old so when I started going to games, the Indians were in their prime - late ‘40s up to about ‘56.
