  • Build video of a 2023 cannondale Habit HT. cannondale released this do it all hardtail mtb bike earlier this year and it quickly became one of my favorite mtb's I've owned. My friends at my local bike shop www.chainreactionga.com cut me a deal too good to pass up on. I like this bike so much, I decided to get the full suspension counterpart (a 2023 Habit carbon) sometime in the near future as well. Do you own or ride a hardtail? Yes? No? Why not? Thank you for the inspiration. I just ordered the HT3 version in jade color and will put a fox rhythm 34 on to it I guess. So cool to see a professional upgrading the same bike I have. I did learn a lot and hope I do not fail while upgrading my first MTB since ages.
    Maybe creating a Frankenstein breaksystem with Shimano Servo 2 finger lever and just buying new tubeless maxxis rims will do the job for me.
    Do you still enjoy riding yours ?

      @Onkelrico  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you for watching, I’m glad my build inspired you! Congrats on the new bike! 👍The Jade looks much better in person than on pics! I think upgrading the fork and going tubeless is a great plan! Oftentimes the actual parts on the bike are different from what’s listed on the manufacturer’s website, so it might come with different brakes already. The Habit Carbon I build not too long ago came with better parts than expected, so just wait with buying parts until you get the bike. And yes, I still enjoy riding mine. Did a few tweaks here and there that I will talk about in another video in the future. Happy Trails! 🍻

    At 26 lbs, that a really light hardtail and not really any super high end overpriced components. I bet it rides nice. I think Cannondale did a great job on the geo.

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching! I agree 26lbs. Is not bad especially since it’s a XL frame. It’s a bit heavier now though, since I added 2.6” tires and a dropper post…😆 For my type of trails and riding I mostly do, I love how it rides!

    • @hardmtnbiker
      @hardmtnbiker Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@Onkelrico wow! Especially for an XL frame, that’s light. Yep, bigger tires are heavier. I have a small steel hardtail built with really light parts and a 34Fox 120mm fork(a pretty light fork) and that bike weighs 27lbs but it’s got 29x 2.5” rear and 29x2.6” front tires along with wide CushCore wrappped around a wide i35mm Stan’s Baron CB7 rims.
      I don’t mind that extra weight because or the way it sucks up the bumps with those high volume tires that serve as a small amount of suspension.

      150mm Thomson Covert (Was on sale for $199.- incl. the lever!) I removed the spacers under the stem, cut the steerer tube a bit more and topped it with a wolftooth integrated superlight cap, tried out the stock tires but went back to the Forekasters, installed a new rear brake line since the one that came with the brake was a bit too short for the XL frame, went ahead and replaced the M8100 crankset for a M8120 for 55mm chainline, and installed a wolftooth chainring… I hear ya’ when it comes to the wrenching! • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico  Před 7 měsíci

      Congrats! Ride the living hell out of it first and determine then what you need/want and replace things as they fail. Without knowing you or your ride style all I can tell you is what I would do first. With that said, some inexpensive but effective upgrades would be to replace the pedals first. The stock plastic ones will likely fail rather quickly in the winter grime. Get rid of the tubes and convert to tubeless. The best and unfortunately most expensive upgrade would be the fork if you ride aggressively and want to lighten your front end. Install a downtube protector and anti rattle foam hoses to eliminate the noise of the internally routed lines.
      I don’t have any links to retailers as I part hunt all over the net and at my lbs. and can’t do so here until I have more subscribers…..

    thanks for the video but some weird design choices on the frame by Cannondale. Is routing the cables under the chainstays such a good idea? Whhy is the seatpost part of the frame sticking out so much? Why are the brake mounts so far away from the frame? And obviously bit heavy for a 'dream' build.

    • @Onkelrico
      @Onkelrico  Před 7 měsíci

      Some good points. Me personally I actually would like all of the cables routed externally, not a fan of internal routing. Even with the 150mm dropper I’m running now, the seat goes down far enough for general trail riding. As far as the weight is concerned, I believe it’s right in line with other big name brands out there when it comes to progressive Hardtails. Dream build for you might be weight weenie set up, for others it might be super burly and heavy, for me it’s durability, versatility and under 28lbs. for a XL sized frame. Only real issue I have with the frame is that it only has 1 water bottle mount…….🍻

    Hey, do you know what size the IS headset is? 41/52 or 42/52? Also, how tall are you for the XL? Lastly, how are you liking it? Is the steering floppy on flow trails being so slack? Thanks and again, such a great build video!

      It’s a 42/52 IS headset. I’m 6’1”. I’m running a 40mm stem, stock one was 50mm. Flow trails is where it actually thrives IMO. I slammed the stem because it felt a bit floppy on technical climbs due to the high stack, now I really like how it handles. I don’t have experience with the Trek. Looking at the 2024 specs though I would say it’s a tough choice. I don’t dig the fork on the Trek, but that can be easily swapped for a better one. I like the fact the Trek already comes with beefier tires and 2 water bottle mounts on the frame. Comparing the 2023 Roscoe 6 with the Habit HT2 the Habit takes the cake hands down. 2023 Roscoe can’t take more than a 120mm fork and has no through axle rear so that would be a nogo for me.
