- Tetris Effect is a fascinating re-imagining of Tetris as a musical lightshow, and it is something truly special, especially in VR...

Mom: Honey, it's dinner time!
Kid: I can't Mom, I'm listening to my blocks!
Mom: *To herself* He's on drugs, I know it.
i mean i wanna be on drugs playing this in VR
Just like Minecraft
' ... back with another one of those block rockin' beats' - Chemical Bros. Trust me, it's got nothing to do with drugs I tell you.
Jon is the man who arranges the blocks that descend onto him from up above...
they come down and he spins them around till they fit in the ground like hand in glove
wow, didnt think id find that here
@@longcrafte2741 Then i see that i have misjudged it
, I should not have nudged it after all.
Jon, you were in vr surrounded by jellyfish. I thought you said that would be the most terrifying thing and would never put yourself into that position...
Did he ever tried Subnautica by the way?
@@gemsdirtykitchen3658 He has now at least.
So there are multiple Jons now. Is Claire delighted or horrified?
One of Many James-es surely you could make a prediction one of many jameses
Delightfully Horrified
So let me get this straight, what you're implying here, that there is, Many, A, True...
Jon?
I don't know... I've only seen a woman with multiple instances of a Jon once (well, twice, if you count graphic novel and film), and Laurie Juspeczyk / Jupiter / Blake didn't seem very pleased with the experience once she woke up... (though, admittedly, one of the instances doing lab experiments at the same time - not that time meant anything to him, obviously - didn't exactly help)...
Delightified.
I'm not a big Tetris fan, but wow this looks amazing. This is seriously a VR showcase title.
Sounds like Tetris Effect have best sound track of 2019
Wow, CZcams compression does NOT like this game.
Oh yeah, this is the epitome of bad-for-CZcams-compression - loads of constantly moving particle effects are sadly always going to look much worse on CZcams than it looks first-hand.
Many A True Nerd I want to ask you an honest question do you support epic
Just saying If you don’t answer this question well what are you trying to hide? Just give me an honest answer
Ain't you a bit of a prick?
"If you don't answer this question, you're hiding something, but if you answer it, I'll either praise you as if you'r'e the second coming of Jesus, or I'll call you an epic shill and unsubscribe."
Why are you defining yourself by which marketplace you use? You know, Valve is in it to make a buck, too, right? (Hence why it took them being sued and losing in court to implement refunds...)
Get a goddamn life.
@@jaredridge3533 What is it with the Epic store hatred I see in the comments all the time? I'm really new to PC gaming (got a rig for my 40th birthday... if you're gonna have a midlife crisis I'd far rather do it gaming than with a Ferrari!) and I don't understand all the comments. If a game i want is on steam, i get it there. if it's on epic, i get it there. It's like normal shopping isn't it? Like, if i can't find a part I need at Target, I go to Home Depot. What am I missing? Is this just like a nintendo vs sega or a ford vs chevy kind of situation? So confused.
@@_Hofnarr It's mostly due to the fact some people don't like change and the idea of having to go to a different launcher to play a game, or at least that's what it seems like. I honestly don't understand it.
Being from Minnesota, I deeply appreciate the loon calls in the second stage. There's absolutely nothing in the world like sitting at a campfire beside a lake in northern Minnesota after dusk, hearing the loons wail into the clear night sky, Milky Way twinkling above.
Nice, dude.
I had to look up the loon cry - it's rather cool.
Wait... there are multiple Jons?
Oh, God, we're doomed. DOOMED!!!...
Into the Manyatrue-Verse.
The Joniverse
Is this the return of Evil Jon?
There aren’t multiple Jons, Jon just has multiple personality disorder, and they’re all evil.
Nice, Jon found another way to iterate on how he presents his videos. This is a damn good yt channel.
Really? So this is not Jon explaining to his audience how he is emotionally connected with a gas tank in Just Cause 4?
I need answers!!
So this is what doing drugs looks like
Listen an hours or two to mantras and you sorta get the sale effect.
Well this gives a whole new meaning to the idea of "hallucinating while doing some lines", doesn't it?
I've honestly never been a big fan of Tetris (casual at best), but I have a VR headset and this was made by the developers of Rez Infinite, so I bought it on reaction. I then went into a trance and played this for 3 and a half hours straight without realizing it, thinking it was 45 minutes at most. Yeah, this VR port is definitely something special.
Listening to Jon experiencing awe, priceless. Enjoy.
*THIS GAME ITS PURE MAGIC*
Am I the only person who thinks the music in the first stage of this game sounds like the score for Arrival
Exactly - thats what i thought!
@@dainironhill306 Sounds like Kangaru but faster
How this game incorporate block movements with sound bytes which perfectly harmonized with the background music, and synchronized with the fantastical graphics is just genius! BTW, the music during the desert (then moon) stage kinda reminds me of Peter Gabriel... Not really a Tetris person, but this game is wonderful. 8^)
Glad to see you jump into this one Jon, it's quite the experience for sure!
A video game score almost as chaotic as jazz
Oh this is mesmeric. Such a beautiful combination of visuals and music. I absolutely approve.
22:32 "You just go into a trance." Jon, otherwise known as Joanna on the weekends.
Game dev: 'We have crafted a beautiful experience out of this game and our amazing music. Do enjoy yourself!'
Jon: 'Sure thing mr. Game dev!'
Jon's viewers: 'ERMAGERD Y U SO BAD AT GAEM!!!one!!'
As someone who owns a vive I can confirm that vr (though also being a very expensive gimmick) is an amazing experience and really can't be comprehended if you haven't tried it out yourself.
Jon not speaking is more terrifying than any horror game monster
I never thought I’d be grinding my teeth from Tetris gameplay
honestly, normally someone who messes up goes to play around the mistake and learn.
🙄 That sounds like a personal problem.
Ahaha, I was just thinking the same thing. There are some games that just don't look good when rookies play them. I always get the same feeling watching reviewers play Mirror's Edge like invalids.
This video made me realize why I love watching you Jon. It's because you are funny and have interesting observations about the games you play. Please never change and never be quiet.
Leave it to the Tetris team to make the most immersive and jawdropping VR game I've ever played. A good pair of headphones and Tetris Effect in VR is otherworldly.
2:22-4:46
What just happened?
How much time has passed?
God that was mesmerizing.
This is what people in futuristic movies thought VR video games would be like. Just random lights, dolphins, and tetris.
i found myself completely mesmerized.
my eyes were wide open and i could not stop watching it.
it was like that game from star trek the next generation came to life
and i just had to observe it.
20 or so minutes later as you said the words "trance-like game"
i realized i was still just holding the thing i was working on
doing nothing but watching and listening
engrossed in it all.
YUP!
had me in an unbreakable grip.
Jon you simply must post every thing you play of this game.
you play for fun/post it.
Claire plays/ post it.
i don't care if it is your friends and family playing it/ YOU POST IT.
this is amaZing. :@) A+
Hearing the traditional music for 10-15 levels gets old fast. Having my own personal soundtrack being made out of my gameplay sounds like a nice change of pace for me.
that's a really nice relaxing game... people weren't lying
This game is breathtaking. I was watching this with a grin plastered on my face. Amazing.
oh man yeah
i know what you mean
i had that same wide eyed stare with that stupid grin on my face too!!!!!
*GAMES CAN'T BE ART*
Tetris Effect : *Hold My Beer*
This is Jon's best video ever. All videos should have this much Jon silence.
Oh this game makes me unordinarily happy! It’s my childhood and amazing music wrapped into one. Warm fuzzy feelings all around
Wizard chess - The game that silenced Ron.
I want to play it but it's on the epic store :(
definitely didn't silence Ron........and that is not as special as a game that makes Jon(MATN) not talk, he talks so much that when he is on someone elses channel he still talks over them...on THEIR live stream....he just can't stop talking, which makes him a good youtuber to watch but come on.....
sometimes the best thing to say is nothing. You took something and tried to make it about you, or ron for some stupid reason?
Are you part of the "Look at me I exist" Generation or the "Shut up and take my money" generation? serious question....
If that is your opinion I respect it but I do not agree with it.
@@ravinraven6913 I think it was a Harry Potter reference lol
ravinraven6913 calm down bruh
The chills I got from the first level alone are just what I needed with this heatwave and stuff. Cheers Jon!
Also the third level sounds SO much like that one track from Akira.
The fire one seemed to have the bell ringing notification noise from Civ 6...
This is lovely to watch and listen too.
This is remarkable. And the strongest reason I've seen to get VR yet.
If you wanna see more of this game I can only recommend looking up the AGDQ speedrun of Tetris Effect. You get to see all the levels and learn quite a few interesting quirks
Me: A Tetris game? It's not like there's a billion of those or anything.
Me, five minutes into the video: ...it's beautiful.
"Claire my Tetris has gone all wibbly!"- VR Jon
This is... just wow. Colour me impressed baffled and wordless. 🤯🤙
I've never backseat game-d a video more in my entire life
@6:55 Ah, that classic loon sound-effect. Beautiful. It's like being back at Jonesy Lake in Firewatch.
The song during the bubbles stage reminded me so much of Akira
Someone must have been on a 70''s acid trip when they designed this marvel of a game.. (And i mean that in a good way. Look at what Steve Jobs invisioned while on acid for instance)
I’ll have you know that there is never a good excuse to be on acid! Why, my uncle’s mother’s cousin’s wife’s grandfather’s grandson was on acid when a bolt of lightning hit his house! It’s all the acid’s fault! The lightning bolt was probably some junkie trying to get it’s fix! 🤪
This version of Tetris was made by Tetsuya Mizuguchi, the creator of Rez. So less drugs and more synesthesia.
@@daevious_ And before that, Lumines.
Damn this game is excellent, glad to see Jon taken aback by it
Jon, to replace "Trance-Like" I think the word your looking for is "Entrancing"
This is the kind of show you might see advertised while driving into Las Vegas on I-15.
Ritual Passion is one of my favorite levels in a game but yeah that last section where the gravity goes instant is So hard.
OMG I love it. I never really watch anything but Total War and love to hear Jon Rample on... but this... ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Tetris Total War? A historical blend of real time combat, empire management and falling blocks?
@@mudcrab3420 I have no clue how this would work, but it sounds so bizarre that I must see it done.
Jon would go into a game coma... 😂
Not sure Jon realised that the first level he played is full of jellyfish...
So this is what doing drugs in the matrix looks like. I like it. Jon, thank you for your lite commentary for this style game. Well done sir.
Tetris + Reactive EDM.....yes please.
Strangely this reminds me of ape out. Same reaction to playing it and just listening
I watched 16 minutes of this without my eyes leaving the screen.
Would love to see a livestream attempt of this
6:10 i love how the rytm here is based on the player inputs, but quantized.
Similar to Lumines.
The one problem I see with this is, am I supposed to look and enjoy the art or focus on Tetris? Be pretty difficult to do both at the same time.
I nominate this for a weekend live stream only if Jon’s high out of his mind
Damn, even just from this video I got a bit emotional.
Now I'm over here crying from not owning VR headset. Thanks Jon.
I can count on one hand the number of times Jon has been this quiet.
He was busy not noticing things in Nowhere Prophet.
Play this more
The first level feels like the intro to a classic Disney movie about tetris.
Also, this is ludicrous on toast, in a good way.
the title is true to it's words... Jon actually said fewer then a thousand words this vid. ;) :D
So the Mongols weren't bumbling aimlessly - they were just too distracted playing Tetris to watch where they were going XD.
Nice its Tetris: Fantasia Edition.
Anyway sound design is usually at the forefront of (good) game design but this goes a bit further with reactive sound design, another game I can think of that does that was metal gear rising revengeance but only during the boss fights and it plays very much like bayonetta.
The best way I can describe this is the Tetris version of Bit Trip Runner.
Very tempted to make an Epic account just to pick this up. Does it have graphics settings in case my computer has issues running it?
Jon i love this game but how do I put this nicely... you're no Dan at tetris
CZcams compression sucks with this video :/. BUT THE MUSIC IS SO COOL.
Holy shit.
Two words that have been hyphenated compose one word. Thus "trance-like" is one word.
"The game that silenced Jon" FINALLY!
Love VR. Separate from this video, I think I speak for many a true fans when I ask these two questions:
1: When can we expect Fallout 4 YOLO?
2: When can we expect Mass Effect 3?
Thank you for reviewing the inquiry.
Oh my god someone made what the inside of my head looks like.
This is beautiful and all, but watching this at 12:30 at night in a dark room cannot be good for my brain bits.
AArgh, I can't even tspin but at least I know that tetrises are more efficient
Also me: "I need a better gaming chair"
Something died inside me around 2:36 with that L-block...
Upon further watching.... It seems Jon isn't exactly grandmaster of Tetris....
he misplaces his blocks the entire time, i'm usualy not a backseat gamer, but this realy bothered me
Remember kids; Don't do drugs, Play Tetris.
This game is so much better than it has any right to be. And the VR experience is indescribable.
Simplicity at its best.
while I agree this game has some real nice tunes, I'm too busy having a panic attack to enjoy some of them, the balloon level is one of my least favourites and Ive yet to complete the final one Metamorphasis because It just goes way too fast and I start a snowballing of "shit shit shit I fucked up my line, shit I fucked up the other line godamnit and theres the game over".
with one level I got so stressed I started crying and I just said: "I want to go back to the turtles the turtles were nice"
reminds me of that game "Chime"
R.I.P Benny Harvey
You should play Megaton Rainfall or Judgement
11:55 Shame you didn't try THIS level in VR...
Now please tell me there's a way to export the music you create while playing this
I just wanted to see giant jellyfish attracting Jon. There has to be a game in VR with attacking giant jellyfish out there.
There is... Subnautica.
@@titusgray4598 I definitely remember when Jon played that, it was priceless. Pretty sure there was another game that had them as well.. or maybe it was a vlog of Jon going to an aquarium?
Build to the left, Jon.
Was anyone else triggered when Jon used the line block to clear 2 lines when he was so close to setting up a tetris at 4:30? No, just me?
The first part of the city level legit sounds like something straight from BOTW
Did Jon not notice the part where he went from the desert to the moon?
I want to go to there.
Greetings, Tovarich
I can get that weird feeling when playing non VR if I'm Very in to the game like when I jump off a high place in apex legends or fallout if you look straight ahead not at the floor as your falling only sometimes it's like your stomach almost goes over lool it's cool I need VR
