    Amazing stuff. I'm working in Final Cut on a 40 minute documentary. But there was one shot that I needed to remove some buildings behind a little girl as she was riding the bike - it was supposed to be 50 years ago when those buildings didn't exist. I purchased da Vinci just for magic mask, and let me tell you… It works! Yep! You produced a great video, I look forward to seeing more of what you do.

    Great video as always, Tom. Make sure you check your shot end to end when you use face refinement. While it is one of my favorite effects, it can introduce a flicker artifact especially with eyebag removal. It also works well in combination with the beauty effect. I will use beauty with a power window to mitigate turkey neck and women love it.

    These are great "what's possible videos". One thing I caught and this has basically always been true to some extent without rotoscoping. Optical flow and speed warp are phenomenal tools. Check the results carefully. Artifacts are still common in fast motion originals. It works better if you rotoscope the foreground from the background but even then it's still not always going to do a good enough job interpolating the frames. Powerful stuff.

    Hi Tom. Saw your previous video and now am looking forward for your videos.
    Would like you to do an in-depth teaching of the "Depth Map". Am wondering if I can do the following... Focus on a near distance object while creating a lens blur of the distant objects, and then at switch focus on a distant object and blur the near object. I have a project that I need to work on later where I have to do something like this, and was wondering how to simulate a natural focus change from near to far. I think this effect is the one I need to work with and learn to achieve that result. The footage I will be working with is an edit of 2 different clips (near and far) to make 1 seamless clip, and has good focus on both the near and far objects.
    Thks Tom for the helpful content. Keep them coming.

    in the last month or 2 I've used Automatic Subtitles a lot. It's very good when used on a Talking Head or Voice Over. In my experiance it does not do WELL with Music picking out the VOCALS even when all there is with the Vocal seperated from the Background / Music with a voice extractor like Clear formly (GOYO). was trying to create Subtitles to use with Orson Lords' Snap Captions. JMHO. BMD needs to enhance their Voice to text to inclusd the sung word not just the well recorded Spoken word.

    Tom, to be honest, I think that by blurring the surfboard you ended up driving more attention to it because the brain will notice that there is something unusual in the scene: the resolution of one part of the scene (surfboard) is different from the rest, there is a lack of homogeneity in the scene, and that's not normal for the brain, so it will pay attention to it to explore what's going on.

    Here is the thing. At its core it is a color grading suite, specializing in finishing a professional image. And your points illustrate that wonderfully.
    But I feel when its comes to editing it is NOT intuitive or faster than FCPX, Premiere or Avid.

    • @TomAntos
      @TomAntos  Před 6 měsíci +1

      It was mainly a color grading suite. But since 2020 it's a full editing suite that actually allows editing much more efficiently. Specially in the cut page. Having worked only in Avid in the 90s and then in Adobe Premiere since 2004 its I really prefer editing in Resolve right now.

      @@TomAntos As an Avid/Premiere user you know very well what your options are. And I’m happy its a good fit for you, but I wonder for others if it wasn’t free if they would have made the commitment to convert over to Resolve as their main editing tool.
      Was Resolve intuitive for you, or was there a learning curve and in the end as an overall package it works for you? I just don’t find it intuitive to edit with.
