25 years ago, a biographical documentary on Will Smith was crafted, completed, and concealed. Today, just one VHS copy remains. Originally titled The Fresh Prince of Everywhere, this vandalised tape now goes as The Fresh Prince of Nowhere - and where it picked up its new name, no one knows. Seemingly resonating with an uncanny relevance to the present day, the documentary is an eerie yet meaningful lesson in love, fame and failure. In 2024, the world knows a different Will Smith to the one we knew on the cusp of the millennium. But the story of this VHS tape is a timeless reflection on the cycles of triumph, adversity, and the cost of fame.

Thank you for watching!!
Yow! I love the breakdown into Will Smith's character. Do you mind checking my channel out. I made a doc on Will Smith only a month ago titled How Childhood Trauma Ruined Will Smith | Mini Documentary
🤍❤️🩹👑🐐
is there going to be a part 2
I am a newer subscriber & I love & appreciate your videos. The quality of your videos that I’ve watched is great, great job.😊
Hands down the most captivating video I've seen since joining the platform in 2017
Chris Rock saying he can do no wrong in the beginning is vicious work fam..😩😂
Yea
I thought the same thing great video
Word Up
This is actually a 25 year old video, although the irony of today is noted. Lol.
😂
that clip of will going off about his dad DESTROYS me every time
Always in tears
As an adult this scene hits so different. He developed so fast as an actor and that scene is his best in the show ❤️
same king I was looking for a comment about it first, because I know I'm not the only one.
I thought it was just me.. powerful moment
Let it not destroy you but employ you to do better, feel better, empathize, realize, that life through someone else’s real eyes are no joke and how we learn and cope with other people’s problemas and dilemas
Not even two minutes into the video and this is some of the most crisp, well-executed, and empathetic editing I've ever seen. Period. You've truly outdone yourself with this one!
What is empathetic editing?
Get off his 🍆
@@silencedogood711 Basically that the editing never really looks down at Will Smith. It doesn’t condone his actions (past and current), but it doesn’t condemn him either.
Incoherent for the most part.
I agree! You couldn’t have worded that any better! Brilliant! If only, all things were so honestly and kindly documented…
the amount of foreshadowing to the slap is crazy
Amd the fact he didn't like to.swear either
@@TheConorsmithusa he lived long enough to become the villain.
Will Smith don’t got to cuss in his raps to sell records well I do… so bless him and bless you too! You think I give a damn about a Grammy? Half of you critics cab’t even stomach me! But Em what if you win…
@TheConorsmithusa "you saw my blinker bitch" (fresh prince song)
@charlsyboisaldivar3386 that verse lives rent free in my head 😭
Will Smith has had a weird life. He got super famous at a young age and has stayed super famous for decades. Not many people have experienced that. It seems like both a blessing and a curse.
I mean dude did a storytime about turning down Neo in The Matrix 💀💀 idk
bro a ton of people have experienced that, almost every disney star, nick star, etc has experienced that.
Definitely more of a curse😂
No Disney kid has been famous as long as Will Smith has been, since he was 18 he’s 55 now.
@@lelimaseru652justin timberlake has been famous for the same amount of time, if not longer.
"Girl ain't nothing but trouble" that's one hell of foreshadowing
Damn that’s truth

Hit After Hit After Hit After Hit
That last frame whre Will stare into the tv to see his reflection was beautiful. Because to me it's like saying this is how his life has played out and whether there are 1, 10, 100 or a million people that's have been watching you, at the end of the day it's how you see yourself that truly matters. Amazing video dodford
Thank you
Beautifully analyzed
The fact that the video doesn’t address the slap and just shows how much of a powerhouse Will was + how many aspirations he had (and maybe still does?) but the uncertainty for whether they might happen is wild now. It was refreshing to see the expanse of his career, feel like sometimes as new generations come by we miss just how significant the ones before were. Bravo!🎉
and also the fact that the video could've still gone on for a while without addressing it.
@@ivanduca3819 Precisely!!! truly masterful storytelling through editing 🥹
I’m gonna have to disagree here. I don’t think Will is a horrible person but I think the bad character traits still need to be addressed. It brings more nuance which is what’s missing from most media.
I think if Will slapped Jada instead it’d be a different story.
@@chimpwimp9407 you’re entitled to your own opinion which you can comment on/ make your own video about should you choose ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I personally saw the narcissistic tendencies in many points watching this too already, from him saying he’d like to thank *himself* for winning an award - the video’s ominous tone can derive that that part of him, underneath his fun personality, is maybe what pushed him too far to his downfall- if that isn’t enough for you that’s cool but that wasn’t my take 😂
also kind of wild to bring up the idea of him slapping Jada when obviously that would be an ENTIRELY different situation on domestic violence and the reality is he didn’t?! Like… of course?! Not sure you were trying to hint at patriarchal double standards but he didn’t/ hasn’t because why would he..?
@@fionakida
Why would that be an ENTIRELY different situation? Jada and Chris are both human so their should be no difference.
If Will had gone on stage and slapped a female actress instead of Chris Rock then you wouldn't have said:
"The fact that the video doesn’t address the slap and just shows how much of a powerhouse Will was-."
You'd be singing a different tune if someone like Regina Hall or Amy Schumer had said what Rock said and Will slapped them instead. Also, there's no way Will would've gotten that standing ovation let alone the Oscar award if it were flipped. These are obviously hypotheticals so there should be no confusion here.
The only wild thing here is that you clearly stated that you think male and female assault shouldn't be treated the same and how through that ideology is you still embracing toxic patriarchy.
Its crazy that he's just like his character in Hitch...showing lots of confidence but is heartbroken
I feel Will personified himself and his pain perfectly in movies lately
@@LxrdBreezy00 Slight change of subject, but in the same vein: Did you ever see the movie _One Hour Photo_ with Robin Williams? It wasn't one of his more well known roles, but he did an incredibly good job at showing the darker side of his own personality in that film.
@@WorthlessDeadEndI’ve been intending to watch that for years but keep forgetting. I’m gonna bump it to the top of my list, thank you!
@@DannyD-lr5yg You're very welcome! Enjoy! ☺
@@WorthlessDeadEnd definitely gotta watch
I love how much this video humanizes Will, you can tell that the research is thorough (often feels like some things came straight out the pages of his book).
I hesitated to watch this, thinking it’d be another unproductive commentary on the ‘career-ending’ slap. But I was pleasantly surprised by the angle this video took, it really gave some context that most people didn’t have when it happened. Great video! 💜
Agreed ❤
I always feel bad for him now, I think the whole Jada situation is really messing him up, I think he feels he can't divorce since his first one really messed him up and his parent did divorce too, so he is kinda just stuck
Yeah it seems like it's all stemmed from trauma, makes me feel bad :(
@@Izghawa She is most likely what is known as a handler. Most of these big celebs are pawns and without their knowledge (or even worse, with it..) an individual or multiple are used to control them. IF somehow this is not the case then he got super unlucky to meet someone so evil via natural fate!
I love how each dialogue smoothly transitions into the next
Man this dude was unstoppable when I was a kid. Will Smith has to be one of the most iconic men of his generation.
I think its sad that everybody reduces Will to the slap.
Because that’s how powerful it was. He literally gave permission to everyone to use violence against comedians that you feel offended by. Stand up’s have always endured heckling, but this was an act of violence. I could go on here on the psychological impact it had..
He reduced himself once he let Jada step all over him and their relationship and the slap showed how much of a weak and broken man he truly is. He is a great actor and he should have retired as a cultural icon but with that slap it showed the world he is a walking clown.
It's like the saying:
"It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it."
- Warren buffet
I personally think it only takes 1 second but to each their own.
@@ramoraid
Regarding Will Smith being a "clown":
He always owned that moniker as a personality trait.
But perhaps we were all too blinded by his 9000+ Rizz stat to see what melancholy lay behind the veil, & what those tears of a clown can really look like.
Not everybody. Thats like saying the entire planet. Not so.
Shit had a tear in my eye, when the did that scene where he met his dad. Hits close to home
Same here. Never met my dad, and I'd convinced myself that I was okay with that until I saw that scene, then the floodgates opened and I realized I had some issues that needed to be addressed.
I grew up with my dad and that still gets me
What are you doing in the dark come out in the light🧐
I find it crazy how out of all of this his wife or whatever she is just gets to carry on doing whatever she wants..
More like whoever she wants. She refuses to get over Tupac's death and is acting like a skank behind (and in front of) closed doors because of it. Will should've dropped her like a bad habit years, if not decades, ago
He was really in his prime for 3 decades. Such a strange time that a man like this can go through such a low point. It just goes to show it can happen to anyone. The way you introduced Jada was so perfect. "do you have someone who can take the air out of your tires occasionally?" Cuts to Jada* "HELLO!"😂
Man, i miss the 90s
Me too oh wait shiiii i was born in early 2000s yeah that's right I'm young smart and educated! Have no fear the future generation is here!!
FOR REAL 😢😅
Imagine being one of the few exemplary celebrities for generations and still be ridiculed at the end of the day.
The public is ficke
Hasn't he been partying with Diddy !?
The public is fickle
he made a clown of himself with the slap and Jada has shown he is a simp and a floormat. At the end of the day he has shown that he a clown of an individual and everything we have seen from him has been heavily sanitized.

So good to hear your narration again - your non-narrated vids were masterclasses in editing but I missed the good old fashioned storytelling element! Great video, hope it brings the numbers you so richly deserve :)
Chris Rock saying he can do no wrong is crazy! ;)
Damn, seriously I've never felt like I understood the slap until now. You've taken what is only pre-recorded footage and recontextualised something I judged him so much for. EDITINGG!!
The slap sure is interesting from a psychology perspective. Why a slap? There are so many other options. Not a push, not a fist, not shouting first, not walking out,.... a slap. And after seeing this video, it kinda makes sense.
@@Djoarhet001 I still don't get what you mean. Why is a slap specifically significant to his history?
Because a slap is more a sign of disrespect than to be a physical assault
@@wordyballoonsan open handed slap is considered less violent, it fits with the no cussing.
If there is Ever an Oscar For CZcams Editing. Dodford. You're Mental.
Yeah mentally challenged!! What was will smith warning Us about, oh he's mental all right
The foreshadowing of the slap just for it to never come… confused, but interesting. I love these vids, this one better pop ❤
I remember Dan Mace (Editor for MrBeast Philanthropy) in a recent interview said "how much of your creativity are you willing to abandon for more views".
I feel like this really relates here. You've made a creative masterpiece but it's unfortunate it is failing to get a large volume of views. Hopefully that changes soon however so you don't have to abandon any creativity to try to pander more views.
This editing and audio is phenomenal mad props
I agree 😊👏🏽
The Fresh Prince of Nowhere really did become The Fresh Prince of Everywhere. I truly do believe that there's nobody really like him, in terms of that love people had for him and the level of stardom that you don't really see today with actors (not that celebrity obsession is healthy of course). He was the Michael Jordan, everywhere you went he was known, even in countries you wouldn't expect. And as amazing as that can be, it really will take a toll on your life, but mostly, your mental state. I don't know why, but it feels personally upsetting seeing what's been happening in recent years with him, I guess since I grew up with him on my TV all the time. But despite that, I still can't wait to see what he has next.
Just like Dodford! Turning into a Fresh Prince himself with these docs, coming out of nowhere and changing up the game, proving that professionally made, informative, heartfelt and genuinely creatively made documentaries can come from anywhere. And as always, I can't wait to see what he has next.
What I enjoy most about this documentary (and all the others you’ve done) is that you don’t spoon feed the critics. There is a lot of foreshadowing but you allow us to kind of manifest the pay off in our minds without actually having to deliver on it because the reason we clicked on the video is because we already know what that payoff is. Incredible work.
Thank you for this comment, Issa 🧡
God damn Dod, the way you are telling a story just through the clips are so refreshing. The amount of work it must take you to research all of these clips, and put them together as a perfect narrative is just mind-blowing! I love that your videos are just like time capsules put together after the fact, but still your commentary comes of as so fitting, as if I'm watching a documentary from 1999. Keep up the good work, 'cus these videos are just amazing. Thank you so much for the free nostalgia-rides you take us all on!
This is an amazing biography, but it completely missed the "Big WIllie Style" chapter of his life and his return to rap, going platinum in hip=hop after a string of hollywood #1s was crazy.
