- I have worked with many different kinds of lenses but the Sony 24 - 105 OSS G lens is by the far one the most under rated lenses on the market. Its a lens that all beginning videographers and content creators should seriously check out.
Just an all round solid lens, does everything that you need. Enjoy the ocean my man, get some relaxation in!

I would add on that the new 20-70 f/4 is also a great option especially for a single lens setup. Having the extra wide end beats the 105 on the long end. It is slightly expensive, but if you compare it to equivalents, the only other competitor is Pana Leica 10-25mm f/1.7 on MFT (20-50mm f/3.4 equiv) which is almost double the price. The OSS on the 24-105 is nice for handheld, but personally I would take the new 20-70. It's also a sharper lens for stills.
Yeah I can see the 20-70 f4 also being a great starter lens for people! I actually really enjoy the extra 105 instead of the 20 but hey we all work on our own projects differently. I am slowly getting into stills but so far I am happy with how they are turning out thus far!
Depending of what kind of project you are shooting, that Sony 24-105 G Master lens its one of the best affordable option for running gun shooting video compared with prime lens. Lot of flexibility, but there is a misconception about this lens because is not that expensive as prime lens as for use it in pro filming. But for great quality youtube projects and even some pro projects it is a great option! (this subjects is like those ones I always try avoid: religion, politics and soccer, lol)

This is not a underrated lens.
That’s great! I hadn’t seen it be super popular when I worked in a camera store and so I thought I would give it a bit more attention!

I 100% get where you are coming from - $1800 is a large amount of money, I am more comparing to other great lenses out there and if this can fit within your budget than it’s something I would recommend! Because compared to many other lenses it’s on the much cheaper side and yet still offers quality!
