Due to COVID-19, American Airlines launched cargo-only routes for the first time in 36 years. On these new flights, passenger seats up top are empty, but the cargo holds are full of everything from live animals and Legos to PPE and food. Business Insider goes inside the airline's largest cargo operation at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to see how crews have kept cargo moving despite tight departures and a drop in travel.

I've lived next to DFW my entire life, it's such a nice airport and it's surprisingly quiet
Load Planners are the ones that decides which pallet/uld go to which position. Not that easy since we need to do calculations and also constantly need to check the CoG of the aircraft.
And people still complain about their strawberries being $5.00.

My husband use to work in cargo for an airline, he mostly handled passenger cargo but there were animals and some packages but never freight.
Only a matter of time till Amazon takes this process over and automates it all

In my opinion, i dont think they would use a380's for cargo purely based on how expensive those things are to operate. Just the fueling and maintenance is insanely expensive. But it would be cool to know how much they can carry.

the 777's I believe it is 32 positions for 777-200 , 44 for 777-300
Thier are different size uld's that determines how many can fit. But you have 4 basic sizes that sit on 3 different bases and all of those are restricted by aircraft type and door size. 88" x102" 96"x 102" are the basic standards

Depending on where the military member dies, the body will be transported by military or civilian aircraft back to their home country. Once on home soil, they'll likely be transported by civilian transport to their destination. We contract through civilian businesses instead of having our own network of various kinds (not only travel/air) a lot more than people think. It's ultimately cheaper and fast to order this part or that doohickey from ABC Corp than to make it like we used to during most of last century. Transporting bodies, whether civilians or veterans, is no different. Get the body back home, then contract civilian airlines to do the rest.

I work for FedEx Australia, we have been really busy. Broke records day after day in december. And January used to be quite but we've been busy.
715K pounds, doesn't seem like that much. Was it supposed to be 715,000 tons? 715,000 pounds is only 15 semi trucks or so..... I think....
An aircraft carrier weighs about 100,000 tons. 777's/787's can't carry as much cargo as you might think in the belly.

All the the plastic and cardboard that's used to ship the cargo is all recycled. The plastic is melted down and turned into new plastic wrap.

Sad to see animals put in the cargo container
Animals are NEVER loaded into the ULD or put on PMCs. All animals, regardless of species, go in the Afk Bulk cargo area. They're loaded in the kennels and that's how they ride for the length of the trip.
@@chaseparisher4548 actually they can be loaded on PMC’s and PLA’s. The aft bulk is preferred, but not required. It is also limited, on the number of live animals, as well as the need to separate live animals from certain dangerous goods. We also require separation of certain types of animals (natural enemies).
