I was a beauty consultant at SK-II for 10 years…also winning top global consultant for my country in 2013. I can honestly say I am and will always be in love with this brand and product. The integrity and the science behind this brand won me over. I am turning 45 soon and my skin is still looking and feeling smooth, hydrated, firm and plump. I’m so proud to have represented SK-II. I assisted so many loyal customers in their journey of improving their skincare and seeing their amazing results. It’s a time I will truly treasure.
Thanks so much for your great representation of the facial treatment essence! It’s so easy to become so passionate about it by the unique way it is produced and all of its unbelievable benefits.

I'm disappointed that you didn't say anything more informative than their advertisements.
And a lot of stuff you mentioned was a bit confusing. I thought NMF consists of squalane, cholesterols, ceramides, etc.
How are minerals, vitamins, amino acids NMF? Also, what kinds of minerals, vitamins are you talking about? And how exactly do they work?

Yep...I'm feeling the same. Thank you for exercising critical thinking here, and 'asking the hard questions'.
After reading just a few of the comments here - have to say, I am SO impressed with Dr. Idriss' audience and their knowledge on the subject AND the fact that everyone is speaking up here. She definitely doesn't have a slavering, hero worshipping audience here - like so many influencers do. So many YT influencers have subs who just hang on every word they say as 'Gospel', and they can literally do no wrong.
What a hard bunch, here, to try to slip anything past! Speaking of 'dupes'...looks like this group cannot be duped (no pun intended)....
and not saying that Dr. Idriss is trying to dupe anyone - she gave an honest review on a good & effective (but WAY overpriced) product. I am a little disappointed that she didn't bring up that there are reasonably priced dupes out there.
OTOH, I can see where bc this was a paid promotion, doing so may have been disrespectful of the company. Surely she knows about these dupes - she doesn't live under a rock - but I do think that given the nature of this video, probably best for her not to go there...

I'm hoping that in an upcoming video, Dr Sherene will do a true deep dive into fermented ingredients and show a range of product. I don't mind that she didn't do so here.
Would I use this? If someone gave me a bottle, I'd add it to my regular routine - but not replace my retinoid, vitamin C and acids. It looks nice, but at my age, I'm looking for anti-aging, not merely smooth, soft skin.

I don’t mind derms doing sponsorships, but I have to say I’m pretty disappointed by this video. If you’re going to title the video “deep dive” and prompt the question “what’s the science?” then actually do a deep dive…and attempt to answer that question by drawing upon your own knowledge and academic literature. I understand that SKII isn’t going to describe in great detail how their secret fermentation process works; however, I would have expected - especially being in touch with someone from HQ - a general idea of what makes this ingredient/process unique to them. This video is also lacking general information that could have been researched independent of SKII, like how skincare actives across the industry are typically fermented, what galactomyces are (chemical structure, function, etc), how and why yeast enzymes make an active “more potent” - I could go on.
Again, I have no issue with sponsored videos, but the title is so misleading for what’s essentially a retelling of SKII’s oft-repeated origin story and a surface level skimming of what the company adverts already say 😕

She has always been very thorough and is always good about doing her own research. Obviously since this is sponsored, the brand is going to send her more detailed scientific info than what the release to the public and its reasonable for her to be in touch with them. What’s good is that she didn’t make assumptions and did want to speak to the head scientist herself. I think it’s unfair to assume that she didn’t do her own research to supplement the information she was given by the brand.

This is going to be a long one, apologies in advance.
I voted for her to do a paid promotion review not a sell out review.
There is a difference between a paid promotion review & a sell out review, this unfortunately was a total sell out review.
I mean the "scientist from Japan" was in touch with her, what a golden opportunity for her to ask him where are the papers on the study on Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate? Why are there studies done by P&G only which owns sk2? if studies indicate there're vitamins, amino acids, nutrients in them what vitamins what amino acids & what nutrients Mr. "scientist from Japan"? Nothing & these are rational & obvious questions mostly everyone who knows the brand sk2 wants to know.
If you look at all the other reviews there is always a science based evidence factor to it for eg her vitamin c video she saying ascorbyl glucoside didn't have much research behind it despite its been used by Estée lauder, Clinique etc. so if they would have paid her to review the product, would that vitamin c derivative become more potent?
The best part & the most cringeworthy (apart from the whole review) was that (she adhered to the golden rule of reviews) well I cannot be 100% positive of sk2 it wont look "genuine" so let me bitch about the stopper on the bottle, you cannot be more obvious.
Look I respect women like Dr. Idriss, Dr. Dray, these people on CZcams are in a class of its own. no question.
Remember Dr. Drays paid review of i think Paula's choice 20% niacinamide & 15% vitamin c booster how she mopped the floor with it even if it was paid?
I did not of course except that form her but a flat out advertisement of sk2 with bs bickering of the stopper on the bottle was not expected from someone who always talks about science backed evidence, even after getting a call from the "scientist from Japan", paid promotion or not.
If this wasn't paid by sk2 we all know what sort of questions she would've asked.
Please understand because she may put it this way I don't know, that Its not that she liked the product & people are angry, that's not the case at all but the person who has built her channel on and always questions the science backed evidence (despite the "scientist from Japan" calling her) couldn't even ask a simple, basic & obvious questions based on science about sk2's star ingredient was just amazing & fantastic to watch. Worst review on this channel by far & I sure hope its the last.

This essence was used twice a day for 30 days before the review was given. So in my opinion this is a little bit better because not only were the ingredients discussed but so was the experience of using the product for 30 days twice a day. I’ve reached out to companies before and gotten in touch with people who were responsible for creating the item. So I don’t think it’s outlandis that she was able to get in touch with one of the people responsible for formulating the product, especially since they sent it to her. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have to say that I tried it years ago and unfortunately for my wallet loved it. It helped to balance out my dehydrated oily combination skin who became normal and no more dehydrated. Not everyone need, want or can do laser , peel etc... and your done with those treatments you still need to maintain with good skincare. Is it necessary? No. But if you have that money to spend on skincare at least it's good skincare and it's much worth it than any La Mer or Lancome products.

So apart from this commercial, where is the deep dive and the actual independently researched science? I began to follow this channel due to Shereene’s scholarship voiced with facts and rationality, excellent scientific explanations and no-nonsense attitude, burning through the ridiculous marketing tactics of skincare brands and the beauty industry as a whole as a beacon of reason and critical thinking - and how disappointing to see her yield to sponsored ads and sell out to a cash-and-grab ad culture that promotes mindlessly purchasing overpriced products. No, I am not interested in dermatologists doing advertisements.
Just over a month ago, she passionately claimed ‘toners are an absolutely unnecessary part of your routine’ so how come now this abrupt change of mind once SK-II approached her for what essentially is a paid promotion?
Pitera is a trade name for saccharomycopsis ferment filtrate, thus essentially a fancy name for liquefied, fermented yeast. There is no substantiated research published in peer-reviewed medical journals proving it has any benefit on skin. Further, there is not one magical ingredient to cure all - skin requires a blend of antioxidants to thrive and this product is just pitera with a few water-binding texture enhancers, water and preservatives. Don’t fall for the marketing gimmick of ‘proprietary’ terms, save your money and opt for superior formulations for much less.

All of this aside products like this one, Estée Lauder ANR which I splurge on every time have stood the test of time since some of us were even born & companies like this can afford to charge us at this price point because they sell like crazy & that is an undeniable fact. I started with sk ii facial treatment essence. Amazing result (brown asian prone to hyperpigmentation and melasma). I was convinced to try the dupes. So far I tried 2 dupes - cosrx and time revolutions. I have higher irritation (redness) with the dupes so hard to see any result when your skin is reacting. I am now back to the real stuff - sk ii

Thanks for reviewing this product!! As a Japanese, I was always curious about this product with the most beautiful celebrities had done the commercials for decades, at it was always onf TV!! Considering the cost of living, the price doesn't seem overly expensive in Australia, but if you lived and worked in Japan, this was definitely an extremely high-end product that normal company workers in their 20s wouldn't be able to afford and sustain. Now I'm reaching 40, I might be able to try it considering how potent it seems as you described. Thanks again!!

Hi doctor Shereene! Thank you for your videos, you're always very informative, funny and witty! I'm a medical student in Italy, but I am no expert in dermatology. I was wondering if you have any tips for pregnant women and stretch marks, did you experience any and if so, how did you treat them? what can we do to avoid them? Is there any prescription cream that we can use to avoid them? Also, what can I use instead of retinoids on the face during pregnancy? thank you!

Dr. Idriss, how would you layer this with other actives in the skincare routine? Would you use it before or after applying vitamin C serum? Or is it better to use at night, before applying retinol? Also, I am curious about the SK-II LXP Ultimate Revival Cream. It supposedly has a really high concentration of Pitera, as well, but b/c it’s a moisturizer, when would that be applied?

Very interesting - THX. I think adding a pump or anything else will add to the material needing to be disposed of in the environment. I use some products with little plastic stoppers like this and they work for me. I do shake the product out on my closed fingers and tap it on my face rather than my palm so I use less product.

Current AM: (1) CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser (2) BR LOTION P50-1970 - to prep skin for better absorption of (3) SkinCeuticals Vitamin C E Ferulic (4) SKIN1004 Hyalu-CICA Blue Serum (5) Sunscreen (brand varies). Or should I just use the SK-II at night after my double cleanse, but before my night serum? TIA!!!😅🙏

There is nothing wrong about cheaper brands. Just like there is difference between a Ph.D and a high school diploma. Anything wrong about a high school diploma? Of course No!! But, there are still some difference. Thank you again. You are one of my favorite doctors. 👍

R8versong86 - unfortunately, your cancel culture reaction to a sponsored product review is unfair & unreasonable, IMO. You've decided because of 'this', 'this' and 'this', it MUST MEAN - THAT!
( i.e., that, given this is a sponsored review, Dr. Idriss must be lying about her experience with this product, for the sole purpose of selling it? Really?...you know how her mind works?
You can't fathom that Dr. Idriss, with all the integrity she's demonstrated, over time, in past videos- might just be giving an honest review of a product she's tried for 30 days?
It never ceases to amaze me how so many people in comments sections in this and other SM sites, think they have crystal ball insight to someone else's thought processes.
In truth, when someone declares, "I have figured out WHY you are doing, or saying this or that!'...they only have access to their OWN thought processes & agenda, no one else's. Their projections of their own thought processes onto someone else - whom they believe they have all figured out - only gives us a glimpse into their own thinking and what makes THEM tick, not anyone else.
