I think the "main" reason for locking down their fluidd fork so much is that creality doesn't want their average user poking around in the config, as while you are unlikely to physically break your printer, it is quite easy to render it non-functional unintentionally. Not giving the "average" user access to it probably helps cut down on support tickets.
Having their "own" printer OS is nice, but as their interface is already a fork of fluidd, it is unlikely they removed these features for "branding".
But I agree that they should probably have a way to re-enable these features without having to install moonraker/fluidd.
This is exactly the reason, The amount of people i see breaking things and blaming Creality for their own incompetence is mind boggling.
People that complain about locked down features have clearly never had to support the product on a large scale. The fewer options a customer has, the better. And if they know how, they can go nuts.

I picked up a k1 a while back once creality let us root it. I got mine on discount and I must say it has become my favorite printer. I had to do a bit to get it printing well but now it is the most reliable and best printer I have. I don't care for creality but I do like the k1 series. And this guy's install tool is constantly getting updated.
Lots of great info, glad to see creality taking feedback and not blocking root but really wish they could take the advice to stop trying to reinvent the wheel all the time.
Lol, after the fifty million different types of Ender 3s they've made, I wouldn't necessarily accuse them of trying to reinvent the wheel. Fiddle with it so it comes out slightly square, maybe XD
Although i already have rooted my k1 I forgot to change the bed to pid. Thanks for reminding me. Can't wait for more content on that little beast of the machine

Makes perfect sense to have it locked down. A majority have no idea what any of the controls do. It would be a complete customer service night mare for anyone. Imagine they hop in and change pin numbers or states temp limits and burn down their home. Unfortunately companies are forced to do so mostly due to lawsuit happy people.

there is an m5p mod for the k1 but its a lot of work. there is a good guide out there.
definitely thinking of picking one of these up now that this is available and they're popping up on ebay
There biggest issue from what ive seen is QC
Mines been pretty good so far, but others have gotten lemons that cant even print properly
@@CanuckCreator yeah ive seen that too, its mostly been extruder issues, which absolutely sucks, but at least there are replacements outthere now and third party ones if people want it
@@CanuckCreator Any idea what the situation is with the K1 Max ? has that still been a bit of a mess or have they managed to fix it up. and I presume all of this you said works on that too.

Still wouldn't call it a "full" klipper version. It still seems to be missing quite a few issues from the main klipper branch unless there's a recent update that changes that.
is there a way to link the K1 to an external MCU like a standard Klipper conversion? I've got spare PI's all over I'd love to offload some of the work to. maybe get some better camera frames with different camera too and more space for timelapse
Did that fix the banding? Thinking about getting the MAX for work but have noticed banding on other machines.

It is possible to disable at least some of those services, if you also replace the screen UI with guppy screen you can disable a heap more. Makes a difference to resource utilisation too, I think installing guppy screen and disabling creality web service are or were a part of that script
any way to use the lidar outside of creality cloud/printing with the printer directly?
Holy piss mate you just informed me that Windows 11 has SSH built into the command prompt! (I mean I think maybe I recall reading that some time ago but forgot) so thanks! No more need for putty!
I have Klipper running on a BTT Klipper Pad 7, and I keep getting this red bar popup that tells me my ram and CPU usage. its very low % too so I dont understand why its popping up. Any idea how to block these notifications? With marlin you can set the popups to toast or something like that where they auto hide and dont interfere with the user interface. These klipper ones are causing issues where i cant touch items on the screen first try and the first tap just makes the red bar go away.
Root access is the reason I picked up a K1, and only because it was on sale for $350. Otherwise, there are plenty of other options that perform the same for around the $400 price point. I guess I hit QC lottery and got a good unit, the only failed prints have been my fault due to not cleaning the print bed often enough.

how did you change it to PID? mine shows both pid and watermark in printer.cfg.

Will you make some upgrades tutorial for K1 :)? Im using K1 max and want to improve Input shaper graph :)
so far improving input shaper on the x needs to be done with new bearings or a rail there are mods for both already
If I rooted the machine, I don't want to loose all my settings that I stablished for this printer with the firmwares updates. I'm thinking to do a full restart and reinstall again fluidd because when I done it past year, the WIKI wasn't complete and I tried to access again to my K1 and It told me the access was denied. So I couldn't install KAMP. Edit: Full factory reset and I got everything
From the sound of things sounds like they prob cut down version to be able to cut back on hardware demand? I hope they dont do that to the K2.
Anyone know how to enable the camera on the K1C after doing this process? When I try to install "18" ("Camera Settings Control") I get a red message, "You have the new hardware version of the camera and it's not compatible!" Should I have used a K1C helper script rather than the K1/K1Max script?

Wondering if they took it out because it's open source code on a commercial machine, maybe they didn't want to pay the licensing fees or something, not really sure though or if that's even a thing
There is no licensing, Klipper falls under GPLv3, so you can use it on commercial things no issue, you just need to disclose any changes and source

I'm lurking to root my K1 Max... however one thing that is stopping me is because, I do see who Creality is targeting with their "capping" stuff: non tech savy users. My wife is not a computer lady but she prints a lot from her phone using Creality Cloud app ... the thing just works 😕! I'm wondering if I root the machine, would it break the crelity stuff?
Hi, I just did this. It doesn't break any Creality stuff. You can use Creality cloud, creality print, whatever. I put FLUIDD and Mainsail. Trying both. I have never used either before. You or wife can choose your favorite or continue to use the Creality SW/web. I did not need to be tech savvy to install or use it. For me, I now have one-click upload and print from OrcaSlicer, which never worked with any Creality SW. CrealityCloud would be...load webpage, login, wait, upload file, wait, select printer, wait, close some pop-ups, etc. Horrible.
@@jmogyoro oh, that is very nice to hear! I'm using Creality Print 5.0.3 + newer firmware and it is actually working just fine but I guess I'll get better first layers with the root so I'll give it a try since it does not break anything. Thank you so much for sharing this.
I get why they do this at ship date, when the software is only six to nine months out of date. But two years later they are still selling units but now the software and firmware is three years old, and all the CZcams videos the new owners are watching are referring to stuff that doesn't exist yet for that printer. It would also make sense if they added value, but usually they only subtract value by removing functionality to "simplify" things.

Perfect, but I reinstalled everything due to Guppy, It looks nice but this extension is, at least on my K1 a real danger, the value input is buggy. I get always triple inputs, If I enter 60° i get 666000°, to dangerous for me. Uninstalling Guppy is not possible. I had to factory reset and start from scratch.
Nero just discovered how easy Linux is.
I don't understand why any of these printer manufacturers insist on their own version of whatever......existing slicers work without issue, existing firmware work without issue, why, just why.......just create a damn profile for your printer for the most popular slicers, use Klipper or Marlin and be done with it.....this is just stupid.
They feel the need to make them unique in their own way, I guess, then it just causes other bullshit problems. In this case, the K1, its been out how long, how many updates, but input shaper still doesn't work right. It is very stupid.
100% CPU usage does not mean there isn't any overhead. It's too much detail for a CZcams comment, but yeah, it's not necessarily maxed out.

I actually really like the visual design of Creality stuff (minus the Webinterface, thats horriible). It's nice that you can just use Mainsail with it, clearly superior to Bambu because of it
I hope that root account is not active without you going in the menu on the screen. That seems very dangerous for a device that is connected to the internet.
Maybe this is different for Creality machines, but having superuser privileges and SSH access on a local network is not usually a security concern (this setup process is no different for normal Klipper machines)- assuming that you have taken the steps to secure your local network. I don't know if there's an option to change superuser password and username for the K1 machines but that's another option to secure.
@@Duckferd I am not sure what you can do with ssh access on klipper machines. But my concern is more that the password seems to be the same and if you are able to turn on heaters for example with this, that would be a very big security concern.
I am sure you can change the password with a simple passwd or smiliar, but while with a normal klipper setup you pretty much have to go to ssh and can change that there, with the creality machines, you might not even know its there and basically open for everyone.
You would need to be already connect to the LAN network to do anything to begin with...
This is like how octoptint has pi/raspberry as the default PW. You can change these btw
@@janboerschlein I don't really follow? The procedure for normal Klipper and the Creality K1 is the same. You SSH into the machine using superuser/root privileges. If the concern is that the default root access password and username is the same for all Creality machines, this vulnerability exists for default Raspberry Pi and especially BTT CB1/BTT Pi installations (where the default username/password is biqu/biqu) as well.
@@CanuckCreator Yes I know its the same on raspberry, but you would have to login to setup your printer, with creality you don't have to and might not even know they are there. That's what I was thinking. I am well aware that people that only follow instructions without knowing what they are doing also don't fix things like this in the setup. :)
Kudos to Creality. Shame on you, Bambu for doing proprietary closed stuff (probably with a bunch of code copied from Klipper anyway)
K1 max is a POS. Mine lasted for 3 months. Creality customer service is non existent. Don't waste your money.
This has been Crealities biggest downside for years and im REALLY hoping the way the market is trending in 3dp ATM forces a turn around with their QC issues
