My grandmother drove a 54 Ford Crestline Fordor with manual overdrive transmission and the V8. I will never forget the sound of that Ford starter and how she drove that car--not very grandmotherly. She would quickly go through the gears and not waste any time and I was enthralled riding in the passenger seat. My favorite part on that car is the engine-turned dash. Thanks for featuring all the details of this beautiful car.

What a beauty! The first year for the OHV V8 engine. I didn't realize that Ford ran the 6 volt system until the 1956 model year. This Ford Crestline Victoria is in pristine condition with every option imaginable on it as well! Cars had so much character back then! This was such a special car that you had to devote an entire video for your "Trunk 'n Treats" segment, which is deeply appreciated. This car speaks for itself, and what a looker it is! Nice catch Lou!

My very first car, was a 54 Ford, with three on the tree, and that 239V8. It also had a mechanical overdrive handle, that you would push in to operate...So cool!...but the old guy I bought it from, warned me that it "burned a little oil". Yeah!...turned out the rear main seal was mostly gone, and so after dumping in a quart of oil once a week, I sold it to a dude who claimed he could fix that seal. I knew nothing about cars back then, but I knew that a rear main seal could be expensive!

Wow, does this bring back memories for me. I was born in 1954 and my father just bought a new car before I was born. Yep, a 1954 Ford. I came home from the hospital as a new born in it. I was the fourth out of six kids. It was the only car we had till 1959 as my mom didn't drive back then. I can still remember when all of us kids would pile in this car to go to church. I was the lucky one to lay down on the back window shelf. Those were different times.

GORGEOUS CAR!! Back in the mid '70s, I had a '54 Skyliner Victoria "glass top" and it was a unique and rare car. A friend of mine had one also, but he even had the glass" insert" hood! It was a dealer show room add-on to display the new overhead valve V8s to their customers. Mine was "Forrrest Green" inside and out.

This 1954 Ford Crestline Victoria is one amazing looking car that is well equipped with many of the options. There was one thing I noticed under the hood that is very different from cars made today. Under the hood the blower for the heater assembly could be clearly seen, along with a set of instructions on how to remove the blower and duct assembly. On this car it was an easy and simple job to replace the blower motor, also it was simple to replace the heater core. One today's cars replacing a blower and heater core is a very expensive complex job that requires removing the entire dashboard assembly just to get at the blower motor and heater core. Cars were a lot easier to work on back in those days.

Yes, those sun visors were used in the early 50s. Also rear window Venetian blinds were available. Leaving the austerities of the war years during the1940s and avoiding the excesses of the late 1950s, American automotive design in the early 1950's was at a golden age. This car is proof. Thanks again to you Lou and the owner of the Ford.

That would be the Fulton visor! Yes, although I can surely say there was nothing war esk about automobiles in the 1940s except for the symbolism of it like the medallion design of the 1941 Oldsmobile, and same goes for the 1941 Ford with the aviator esk resolve.

Beautiful restoration. Dennis was correct about the Y-block being made from '54 to '62, however, there were other displacements besides the original 239 and 292. In '55, it was a 272, then progressed to the 292 (as Dennis mentioned). There was also a 312. Also, Mercury in '54 used a 255. A little-known trivia about that V8 badge is that the red "Y" background represented the new generation "Y" block configuration.

    Hiya Lou-
    Wow, what a nice '54!
My Uncle Mike was looking at new Vauxhalls in 1954, they were sold at the Ford dealerships.
While he was looking at them, the salesman asked if he'd be interested in a new '54 Ford convertible... The '55 models had just come out, and the salesman explained that he had a still brand new '54 that nobody seemed interested in.
So Mike agreed to look at it.
It was an incredibly special '54 rag top.... It was prepared by the factory as a show car and apparently the factory sent out a few of them to major markets, to be displayed at the big city Auto Shows in 1953.
This particular car was a Sunliner Convertible... In salmon and black!
It had the real Continental Kit, the overrider bumpers, power steering, brakes, seat and windows.
It wore REAL Kelsey wire wheels. It was "Hillbilly raked", lower in the rear end.
It had the spotlights... it had a REAL full leather interior in off white and black.
But the real cherry on the cake was that it was nosed and decked (shaved emblems and crests), and had the ultra rare "Dealerview Hood", which was a Plexi insert on top of the hood, to display the new overhead valve V-8.
For years I had ONE old photograph of Uncle Mike with his pride and joy... A really kool picture of him leaning against the fender, with his cool Pompadour haircut and wearing A LEOPARD SPOTTED sport coat!
    And in living color, too.
Unfortunately, that picture disappeared somewhere about twenty five years ago.
I can only imagine what a factory prepped semi-custom like that would be worth today.
Hey... Yet another GREAT job on this beautiful example!
    Cheers

Dennis Roxworthy always has excellent cars to show us. I like 1950/60s vehicles the most, especially when they have this coloring and chrome! Dennis mentioned that the Crestline 4-door model was among the highest-level Fords for that year. Are 4-door classic models from this era hard to find? If not, I would show more of them. I remember when I was a kid in the early 60’s. Our neighbor had a 1954 Ford sedan and got into a “discussion” with his wife. He was very upset and backed out of the driveway, dropped it in first gear, floored it and popped the clutch. The front seat ripped out of the floor and he was looking at the ceiling!

Hi 👋 Lou Ivan I J here, first of all Dennis got that ride at an how can I put it an “FFD” those letters stand for Five Finger Discount. What a Beautiful 🤩 And Gorgeous Ride. The only thing that ride needs is to be taken care of and driven on great sunny 😎 and really warm days. That ride needs nothing else more done to it, the 50’s and the early 60’s when the USA and USSR were competing for the first to be top contenders for the race to space. The Big Three especially Ford and Chrysler was a head of GM. Because they paid close attention to what was going on and happening between the USA and USSR to be the first in Space. The JET ✈️ Plane Hood Ornament represents the breaking of the sound barrier for speed and the rear taillights represented the space rocket afterburner boosters. Now getting back to that crest liner ford really out did or done their selves with the building and manufacturing of that ride everything and I mean everything is all factory 🏭 Original you can’t get no better than that. That ride is to remain Original, that ride is not asking for aftermarket imitation improvements. Whom ever Dennis bought that 54 Ford Crest-liner from did an amazing 😻, awesome and great outstanding job. The only thing Dennis has got to do is take really good exceptional care of it that’s all. Oh i can not 4get The 1955 and 56 Two Door Crown Victoria with the Half Glass Sun ☀️ Roof. The Big Three really had it going on back then. They really did. Plus those Rides were really comfortable and gave you a Spectacular Ride back in the day. Compared to the cars and suv’s that they build 2day,especially your Fully Equipped, Fully Loaded, Fully Powered Full Sized Luxurious Luxury Land Cruisers, Luxury Land Liners and Luxury Land Yachts By the Big Three Ford Chrysler and GM. Sincerely Yours Truly Ivan I J😎😎😎😎
