- As usual, boat life brings its fair share of challenges. And having a main saloon window pop out and also losing a main engine put us in a pickle before having to go get measured for the Panama Canal....
SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are almost ready to cross the Pacific Ocean!!

Woohoo, 87 beers! Message sent, Colin! Many thanks!!!! Keep on keeping on!
Just replied to your email !!
Congratulations!!!
so you have that same fridge?
@@garethhood237 thanks! I never win anything!
@@dc1544 I don’t even have a boat 😂!
Dude in the back doing weird hand signals shit at the end was everything
Oh ive missed Jamies dad jokes "theres the aircon" as the window came out 😂😂 Soul brothers for life you two ❤️
Jamie is the absolute best, always makes me laugh, a great friend to you Colin, love him
Jamie is gold with the laughing all the time. You can’t be pissed if you want to be with him laughing all the time. Lol
You need to do a collaboration with Fireball Tool and have him send you a small vice. A vice would be a huge time saver and crucial for some of these fixes.
Hi Colin, the reason that the Windows is losening is that the Lexan expands and contracts after the temperature. The production has changed, and at the later 450 boats, the Windows at the sides isn’t one but two pieces, then the joint can obtain the movement. I had my Windows cut in two by Lagoon in 2017, and was told that the production had been changed.
Next time the Windows is losening you should Cut in two….
You are the man Colin! Love watching you and Jamie work together. I notice Jamie really pays close attention when your doing something that he may not know how to fix or repair and studies your every move, always watching and so willing to learn. Good on you Jamie. Glad all was fix in a days work! You guys ROCK!!! NOW GET BACK TO PLAYING AND HAVING FUN. SENDI G GOOD VIBES AND LOVE TO THE WHOLE CREW. GOD BLESS, STAY SAFE AND SAIL ON MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS OUT THERE DOMINATING!!!♡♡♡♡♡♡
LOL the guy behind you jumping around hysterical
So great to see Jamie back on Parley!
Great Crew
Long time coming. Mystery fix. Lets gooooooo
You're a clever man!
Great video! Fun seeing Jamie back with his laughing… He cracks me up. Sundays are great with new videos from Parley Revival. Keep on keeping on!
I am Soooo glad to see Jamie Back ! Great Team.
Each week, I can't wait for the new episode to come out. Me and my friends will sit around and watch and bet on when we will hear the first Jamie laugh! LOL
Thanks for sharing !
David Shih is a goof! 😂💙🏴☠️
Congratulations on the guitar string Collin that's what we use in the motor trade
Enjoying all the videos mate
Cheers Wattie
David is so funny .. he is almost like Jerry’s neighbors on Seinfeld … his randomly in the background ..
Great work guys ..
It’s great to see you guys doing ALL repairs and upgrades, not only gives you the certainty of how it works but also that you can repair it anywhere anytime.
It’s 100% just one of them things! That’s funny man nothing better than taking something apart and realizing it was fine… you definitely caught a break with it working again great to see Jami back! Guys amazing!
Great tip by floating the window off the frame.
87 beers 🍻 holy sh-t.
Using Duca,s Sikaflex lmfao.
Good video Colin.
That crazy ass texan Shih is still there.....
Carry on crew.
I guessed 97 tinnys , but Jamie drank 10 of them .
After reading the title I was expecting the window to break as you were re-seating it. Good thing I was wrong. Weird thing about the drive cone. Looks like it just wanted attention. Good thing there is a superyacht engineer on board.
The problem with not finding a problem, when you know there was one....can be worrisome because you know it will come back at the worst possible time...
Anybody heard of Murphy's Law? Whatever can go wrong will go wrong at the worst possible time. Everybody knows that, even Super Yacht Engineers. I have confidence in Colin. He'l get it sooner or later.
Man the pucker factor when he was cranking on those straps lol
As a kid growing up I heard boats are expensive and break a lot. This channel is confirming that to be true!
piano wire is what we used in the salvage yard back in the 70's LOL yes i go that far back
Salty has the same fridge hahaha
Bring on the Pacific! 2+ years in the making, so excited for you.
I hate that you guys aren't sailing, but I love watching the repairs and how you make it fun.
So glad to hear Jamie’s laugh again the channel was not the same when he left.
Totally agree!
The part of an accompanying tune that starts at 15:19 reminds me of the opening bars for an old Tom Jones song from the 1960's titled 'It's not unusual'.
Fun to see your neighbor enjoying with him on this video...
On the brass cone, there is a minimum dimension as you spoke of, an another measurement to check. I did not see you measuring the height of the brass cone once mated in the metal cone. Yanmar has a minimum wear height dimension for this once the brass cone is seated to the metal gear. This dimension can be affected by the wear on one or both parts. As you know, the tolerances are so temperamental and small, not sure you had accurate instruments to measure them.
I did both of my Sd50’s with Gidden’s kit as well, a very good solution to help the poor design last longer. However, at the end of the day, the cone clutch is a poor design to transfer torque and power to a propeller. The dimension I had for my brass to cone gears seated, were right close to needing new parts. When my cones start slipping again, and they will, I would need to spend too much money on obsolete drive. So, I’ll be spending my money on installing SD60’s.
The SD50 is s poor effort by a manufacturer to make an easier serviceable drive, easier to assemble at manufacturing. The design was all about saving money in production and assembly. Yanmar went back to traditional clutch disc assembly with the SD60, the disc can stand years of service before needing replacement. Enjoy your videos, Cheers ⛵️😎
Now this is good information that I hope he notices, thanks for posting it I just wish it had more up votes...
@@PastorwithoutaPulpit Thank you 😎
I’m pretty for sure that Collin nows exactly what he is doing bro
Anybody involved in the sailing world just watched this fix it all genus completely tear sailboats cat or monohull apart and rebuilt them to better than what the factory that built these boats could do 👍⛵️🤠hats off to you guys Parley revival cheers from Texas s/v oceancowboy
anyone sensing some competition between Tom and Jaime?????
You need to get yourself an oscillating muti-tool for removing those windows. They will come in handy for dismantling furniture too.
PS Jamie is a legend, you guys are meant to be. Maybe a past life? Make the most of this life together!
56 Beers!!!!! Love the channel!! from Canada!
REVISE that....77
LOL....revise again....93...final answer
Photo bombing is great, David that was world class, I’m in many Asian photo albums with the Opera house as my back drop👍
I love seeing the mechanical side of things, even as a girl. My older brother taught me alot working on cars plus i built fustom ski and race boats in California. Love you guys.
If anyone is wondering, DOW SIL 795 (or just plain DOW 795 in the USA) is exactly what you should use when bedding fixed portlights (windows) and even works really well on hatches. DOW 795 is what they use to hang large tempered glass panes on large buildings. It is an industrial grade pure silicone, but this is not the stuff you buy for your bathroom sink. It is able to expand or contract up to 50% of its own thickness without breaking the bond, so in layman's terms it can stretch enough to handle extreme shifts from hot to cold and remains flexible but strongly bonded. It sticks like mad so you only get one shot on getting it on right, but you will have leak-free windows for decades. It's not expensive either, surprisingly. It is the ONLY type of silicone you should ever use on a boat and only for bedding windows/hatches.
Cheers for the confirmation!
Luke, that's great info. Are you a dealer, work for dow, or are a rep, or are you just smarter than the average bear?
@@jayltd.7030 naw, that was being a Richard!
Silicone sucks it’s all hype and no performance
Dowsil is what I've used on my cats windows.
i like to think i could definitely rebuild a boat after watching these videos. then i go back to eating my pizza.
hahahahahaa
Me too, except it's wine and pork chops.
That toggle just hanging in there at @17:31. :)
BOAT stands for Break Out Another Thousand times 2 for dealing with saltwater environment.
It is really exciting to see the dynamic duo back together. I was , because of your thumb nail waiting for a bomb to drop. Glad everything worked out. See you next Sunday.
you should cut a deep vee in the nozzle when applying window sealant to allow the sealant to stand proud and then squash it when fitted as your way is very messy and wastes do much sealant I hope it works for you all the best.
I love the energy between you three. :D
David is nuts. Gotta love the guy. 😂😂😂
I just can't love this show enough. Great Great Great stuff guys. Keep up the good work
With a title like that, I'm glad to see you have 200k + subs!
Congrats!
It’s great to hear Jamie’s laugh again!!!!
17:00 hahahahaa 'CANNONBALL'
Loved the video bombing by David Shih (probably just slaughtered his name). The three of you are such a great team! Tom has fit in so perfectly with you and Jaime! What a great find on your part!
When your trawling for pellagic fish I have always put my lure at the back of the wash. Believe it if you will. Fish like to swim into the wash. Especially if there are eddies curling off the keel. Dawn & Dusk are good times for me to fish also. A tip from the Bay of Plenty, NZ.
I use a cable saw for cutting pvc pipes for irrigation stuff. Guitar string, silver similar.
I love the videos Parlay and have a blast in the pacific I know the Pacific Ocean has been on Colin’s radar for a while 👍🤠⛵️
Top tip for you Colin ... after you lapped it, put some magic marker on the cone and turn it a few times, see if you can see even contact for high spots, you'll see where the magic marker wore off .. whenever you lap something you need to be able to test how well it lapped in and magic marker is great for that.
I was going to suggest the same thing but with engineer's blue, both will do the same tho.
Yes, prussian blue is your friend !
Nice one mate!
@@ParlayRevival All of what they say is true and appropriate, but it is physically possible to see the contact patch without it.. but yeah.. anyhow great video and your music you use is always good!
The Lapping process involves “Charging” the Lapping part (Softer material) with compound. This means embedding the part with small particles (very hard material) that contribute to shape the mating part surface. Realize wiping the surfaces clean with solvent and rag doesn’t dislodge the embedded parts. This means with continued use these particles will continue to scrub the mated part. Color of one of the parts appears to be either brass or copper. The softer the material, the easier it is to embed lapping particles.
It wasn’t clear to me the function of these parts in the Sail Drive assembly. An explanation might help!
You could be continuing the Lapping process while using the Sail Drive thus shortening its life!
It might be thought both parts were turned on a lathe and one steel part even ground. There shouldn’t be any need to Lap the connection.
If you ever have to remove those again their is a special tool for glued in windows it’s basically a knife blade on a tool that vibrates and it works like butter.
Damn I’m 11 hrs too late. Congrats SaltySoul70🍻🍻🍻
You make every fiddly nightmare job look like just another walk in the park. You are showing off those engineering skills. Looking at the cardboard that boat is made of no wander it bent in the middle.
16:53 Hahaha.... brilliant photo bombing from David.
A scraping blade on an oscillating multitool makes short work of that window sealant. It'll zip right through it, both when separating the window from the boat, and when cleaning the remaining sealant from both surfaces.
Agre. "oscillating multitool" is a game changer for many, many maintenance/repair jobs for me. What a brilliant tool ! 👍
Us "Old Engineers" have a catch all category for things that happen like your sail drive. We call it "FM" but it has nothing to do with radios. It's just F**KING MAGIC.
You have great friends who stick around when the hard stuff has to done.
so only 3 days worth of beer for one person? spray bottle of water when cutting out window with wire or knife. and wrap wire around sharpie, pen or utensil handle to make it easier on hands. cut a v in tip of caulking so it leaves a pointed ridge, ensures contact without wasting a lot hand having cleanup.
Realy thaught you ment "in there", as in the WHOLE unit, he he he. Congrats to the winner! 87 was a solid guess :)
Glad to hear your Dyneema lines are working out well. I was one of the negative feedbacks. Your fairleads are good!
Idk wtfs goin on with all the mechanics and whatnot, but Collin you make everything look so fascinating!! So happy I found this channel!
@@jayltd.7030 wish I did!
A couple years from now you will reinstall the old cone and it will work perfectly
Vibration resonance cutter is what you want mate.
Starts with a utility knife, and ends with a chef's knife. That's the Parlay way!
Next time you have to fix something you should do the new Zealand Haka that should start things off right
This channel is solid and real fun, thanks for the best channel on the tube🏋🏻♀️🤟🏋🏻♀️
I spent all weekend catching up on these!!! What an awesome journey! I could only dream of a life that free. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
Awesome David "Video Bombing" :)
the Black stuff mechanics cut with a sharp wire when changing car windows
It’s happening! Get it guys💪💪
You need an Oscillating tool with a knife tip. It makes quick work of removing old silicone. Bought one for my RV a year ago and use it a lot more than I thought I would.
Sometimes there's no reason but glad it's fixed ✌️💜
The oil could potentially be your problem. Same idea on wet clutches in bikes, if you dont use the right oil it’ll slip. Worth checking.
Yes my thought as well, have worked with different drives in the heavy equipment industry and the wrong oil or viscosity can cause issues. Incredible minds think alike🤣
I was also wondering that. Possible contaminate in the oil? I have heard of getting mislabeled oil sometimes in more out of the way locations, maybe that's what could have happened?
Colin specifically mentioned using Quicksilver which is the recommended oil for these cone clutches.
Hafa Adai from Guam Popeye.
@@justinschuchat3650 but who is blending and packaging for mercury these days? Some blenders cut corners especially on a toll blend.
Yup, I had a slipping Twin Disk 506, turned out to be the wrong oil which frothed and the air in the system stopped the hydraulics actuating properly. Changed back to straight 30 SAE and problem solved.
Looked like you could use a couple of those beers after the sail drive fix. Another great episode. Thank you
👍🏼another successful fix, but I’m with you on what was wrong, and not finding a problem? But, if it’s fixed that’s a good thing
60 beers. Lv you video's
messy situation but be grateful your able to do the work yourself.. thats the silver lining man.
True that .
Nothing like a happy ending. Job well done. Thanks for sharing.😎
Great video. Love seeing Jamie and you working side by side! Never gets old. And HELLO, DAVID! Loved the photo bomb 💣!
Colin is the heart of Parlay but Jamie I feel is the soul.
Great video once again. As en engineer myself I know the frustration having a component all within tolerance of working specification and it is NFG
THat is still a a head scratcher to me.... hmmm...
Another good job done. See you all next week
Hey Colin where is Sylvia' and how is she and her family?
Salt Soul 70 has the same fridge full of beers.
87 cans a beer on da boat 87 cans a beer ,jamie had a round and then another round 85 cans of beer on da boat 🎵🎶
Hi Colin some times things Happen for a reason I have been trying to go sailing for 10 years now. So I know what it's like when thing don't go the way we would like them to to go please do not stop what you are doing you are such a Inspiration to me Cheers. frim Svoneday.
Congratulations
I enjoy seeing you and Jamie working
Oh Jamie, don't throw trash in the water! You can hear the splash! 7:07
I think you were just waiting for Jamie to come back to help fix the window 😂
Great job
Heading to the Panama canal!! I've been watching since just after you bought the 450. What a journey and I cannot imagine the satisfaction you must feel at this point. Great job! Wish I could be a line handler and drink that cheap local beer with you. Cheers!
Great video! David is hilarious in the background!!😂
