How We Breed Our Sheep in the Summer! (OUT OF SEASON BREEDING): Vlog 330

- Breeding season is here! Except... for a sheep, we have to set the mood.
Sheep breed typically in the shorter day lengths, so summer breeding can be challenging... in this video, I discuss how I try to make this happen and we see the sheep over the week to observe progress!
I don't know about anyone else, but watching this go down has to be the most comical part of my job.
Love you all!

LOL BILLY talking to you! He's adorable.
Lol! Wasn’t that awesome!?
The cuteness
There's always new subs that haven't heard you explain things a million times.
And true fans don't mind at all.
❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦☕️☕️
Sandi, you often say "I feel like I said it a million times before" or you don't want to bore us, well as a fan that does not live on a farm or do what you do every day, I find that I had forgotten some tidbit of information thus learning something new, each video has some small new information and a whole schwack of fun , thank you
Sandi, I dont smile much, or have much joy in my life,,,but watching those rams with their heads in the air and mouths open, made me smile. Thank you for this joy today.
carolinmichigan Sure glad that you got a chuckle and a little bit of joy today. Keep your chin up and I pray for a little joy to come into your life each day. Even if it is just the beauty of a sunset/sunrise or a rainbow. Wishing you well Carol.
Robyn Morris aww, thank you
I actually enjoy watching the sheep management. It impresses me that you can manage to keep all the stuff straight. And during harvest you’re an amazing woman.
My husband and adult daughters think I’m weird, but I enjoy “the science“ of your operation. It’s interesting to hear your reasoning for the decisions you make, to hear the concerns you’re contending with, to hear of your schedule for your very busy and exhausting life... I appreciate your posting and sharing your family’s hard work! Of course, I do love seeing the babies!! 😆
I watch more CZcams than actual tv. I find people who are genuinely passionate about their job to be extremely interesting it helps that Sandi is so likable.
Sandi, don’t ever think “daily chores” are mundane or boring... many of us LOVE to “participate “ with you virtually!! I feel I could never do the things you do or even keep up with you but love being a part of everything. I’ve learned SO much just watching and being a part of your life. THANK YOU!!❤️💕
You could wrap the glass bottles with tape or vet wrap, then if they get dropped they don't shatter. I'm a dropsie, so I have learned how to make things bounce! lol
Lol! Great idea!
That really is a great idea isn't it!
pool noodle coozie can help too...cut a pool noodle to fit the bottom inside!and you can still pull the meds out but should you stop it...less chance of breaking.
I am literally sweating from holding in juvenile comments. Sheep are already comical enough before throwing sex into the mix, great video.
Hahahahaha!!! Tell me about it!
A helpful tip when using disposable gloves is to put 2 pairs on and when the top glove rips it is much easier to put another one onto the dry, sweat free bottom glove.
Great idea!!!!
Is that why people wear 2 pairs?! Holy smokes, that makes so much sense, I've always wondered why people wore 2!
Baby powder rubbed on your hands makes it easier to put on gloves as well.
@@SandiBrock I've learned wearing gloves during this pandemic that if they stick a bit, blowing some air into them helps sometimes if you don't have powder handy. Powder either put on your hands, or a little into each glove works wonders.
Is it wrong that I get a real laugh watching the machinations of the rams blocking the ewes from other rams but also blocking out the other rams? It really is a game of strength, strategy and chance.
OMG! I never laughed so hard at the rams doing the "tongue thing". I really needed that laugh. I like the management parts. I'm not a sheep famer but love animals and always wanting to raise animals.
If I wasn’t interested I wouldn’t have watched. We are interested...please keep it up. Thx!
Great!!!!
I was watching one of your videos when my Daughter-in-Law walked in and said “That’s Sandi Brock, we love her”! 😁
I always love the silly facial expressions the rams make. The lip curl (elvis), the tongue (gene Simmons) and nose twitching. Makes me laugh. Because we have wethers on our place, I get watch these goofy antics twice. Have great weekend Sandi.
Sandi I love your honesty and love of sheep. Christmas will be fun! Go Billy
And it is all due to the Flehman Response that many ungulates have where they are sensing the pheromones in the air which is directed up to the roof of the mouth via a duct behind the front teeth.
Too funny!!!!
Billy is so funny at 18:26 😳! Great vlog, Everyone hates Monday mornings!
Can't wait till December!
Thanks Ellie!
I don't know how you keep it all straight Sandi- you manage all those sheep but also have to understand what Mark is doing in the fields so you can help him. WONDER WOMAN 😄
So fun to watch all the tools and time working out, for the sheep. It cracks me up when the girls come into estrus and the boys do their tongue wagging and lip lifting.
I helped my daughter bred them for 2 years and had the babies for other students to raise and then show and sell. We had fun and learned so much, so that’s why I enjoy watching all the new things you do to sync their estrus and using multiple rams to ensure coving the ewes. Thanks for sharing!
Loved how Billy was telling you not to leave. Hopefully everything is going well for them. Loved how popcorn did her little shake.
Rams doing a good showing of that Flehmen response to get a better picture of the ewe's scents
Dear Sandi. I wanted to share with you that when I read about your friend Amy I researched what happened to her since I'm a fairly new follower of your channel...and when I read your facebook letter to her within just a few days of her passing I cried so hard...I didn't even know her, nor you that well now...however, your letter (and what happened) is an universal representation of grief many of us have experienced...so I'm so very sorry for your continued loss of her friendship while I'm thankful for finding your channel, which has helped me rediscover some of my own strength that had been drained from my soul due to grief and depression...love, Alice
Peace be with you Alice and Sandi
I have seen several breading and lambing cycles but never get tire of them or the info. Your reactions and video clips are fresh every time.
Having the days together like this was wonderful. I really appreciated more of the behavior of the rams.
Carissa you are such a cutie.....such a good worker......so glad to see you! God Bless
Lil Billy was telling you to keep petting him. So cute.
At 10:46 Billy say " where do you think you are going? I wasn't through getting my loving !" Lol
Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe.
God bless you
That open mouth panting the Rams are doing is tasting the ewes pheromones in the air around them with their Jocobsons Organ. Basically, ovulation detection.
That was hilarious. I've seen the Rams mount but I've never seen them panting with their tongues hanging out. The more you showed the more I laughed. I'm glad you showed as much as you did since I find it so interesting. Thanks, Sandi.
You are so exhilarating to watch... your passion for sheep shines through. During some of the mundane days of covid... i watch you and wish i could join you for a day... too bad you arent from Alberta.. xoxo. Thank you Sandi... you are loved... just like your sheep
Just re-watching this as you head off on your 2024 holiday to the UK. Love the interaction and Billy’s chatting with you. Bon voyage.
Sandi "I just want to slip in and see if there's any activity' 🤣
Lol I almost blushed on Wednesday. Billy calling you was so funny. Can’t get over the facial expressions the boys make. 😂🤣
Carissa’s face when you were holding up the cedars - priceless!!
I loved ❤the look on Carissa's face when you were talking about using the CEDRs twice. 😂😂😂😂😂
The 'Flehmen response' always makes me smile....
Used to notice it with my horses when the mares come into oestrus. ...
I can also see my English Springer Spaniel 'taste ' smells as well. ..
It's what I refer to as smells telling stories and maybe why animals remember places or journeys.
The Jabocsons organ interprets the smells.
I think it's facinating !
Love the whimsical bandanas in the hair- then we know it's a new day
Billy wanted your attention that's for sure!! I am just amazed at just HOW much work goes into raising animals and crops.
I grew up on a farm until age 12 and lordy I must have been sheltered. 'Cause I was oblivious!!!!! Thank you for sharing and showing just how much dedication and work it actually takes.
Don't ever fuss about having repeated yourself, it's all good. Most i think come to see you and the sheep and whatever you happen to be up, it doesn't have to be a short course on farming every time. Thanks for posting and it's nice to see Carissa (sp?)back.
Those panting boys remind me of boys in high school. 😂 Billy and friends couldn't care less. So funny!
And it’s probably the boys who don’t care who get the most girls !
Love your passion for this flock. The blend of science and husbandry that you use is great. You plan and see your plans through, even when mother nature sends you a curveball. I am a witness to your diligence. YOU, LADY ARE REMARKABLE!!!
Too kind! Thank you Susan!
The green group looks ready for St. Patricks day! Billy is a little sweetie pie, love his bond with you. Excited for Ruby babies!
Carissa (sorry if spelled wrong) is just the sweetest! When she smiles her whole face lights up. She is eager to please you and I’m sure you can tell by all her effort (hard work and lamb bottle training) on your farm. You are blessed to have such a sweet soul to work with 💕🌸 I’m sure her mom is so proud of her too.
Poor billy wants you instead of ewe ;)
I find your breeding info very interesting. It's very different to anything I see from farmers here in the UK so yes please on full explanations, I need that :)
I do love the way you tell it warts and all when things go wrong. Every little slip-up documented for all to see helps others who may be a bit accident prone feel more normal.
That's very important. I don't know whether most farmers hide their slip-ups or what, but I can't believe they don't have any. Anyway I love watching your videos and instagrams (although I watch those on laptop too, weird old me lol). Thank you Sandi :)
Your videos are ALWAYS super interesting, Sandi! I went back to some videos that were kind of connected to the silver button placque and your start in CZcams......and I cried a lot. Sending you hugs for those hard times and heartbreaks. Anxious to see your next video...as always! :)
I love watching your channel. I am fascinated by the sheep, the harvest, all of it. Thank you for sharing your farm life!
Ditto! 😊❤😊
Thanks so much!
Billy is just a crack up! I can’t wait to see what cuties come along from Ruby this time around and if there will be anymore looking like Billy 🥰😍
Billy loves you and he's adorable.
Tell Clarissa thanks from me for helping you. She is very needed to help you.
She’s amazing!
Lucky girl. You are successful because of YOU!
Pat yourself on the back.
People come in your life to move you to be who you are suppose to be, you learned your lesson. Good girl!
I've never heard the Gallagher talk before, that threw me for a loop for a minute 🤣 Mondays stink, that's for sure! Keep up the great work! ❤️
Hahaha! She’s like my sheep Siri.
Aww, look at those boys. They're so much classier than bucks. We have a 2 day window to get more hay done, this was a good break from bouncing around on the tractor. 🤣 Hi from up nord.
Yeah, at least the rams don't pee on themselves! I like goats, but that was hard to take.
You can freeze a few milk jugs and rotate them in front of the fans and it helps cool a little bit more
Good idea! Except in Ontario we get our milk in plastic bags! :) :) But orange juice jugs would probably work. ;)
@@terryst9835 never thought about the differences. What about distilled water for CPAPs and stuff. I guess I am spoiled lol
Sandi, You have made my day! I had a pretty major surgery on Tuesday and after a really hard session of physical therapy, I was so excited to see this video!!! I love seeing all the things that make up what you do! Babies are great, but they’re not the only part of this job. I hope y’all have a great weekend!! Kristin from Oklahoma 💗💗💗
I’m so nervous of Billy’s testing. I hope the sweet little guy makes the benchmark
I think we would riot if Billy had to go LOL #superfan
Sandi, I think you enjoy being a match maker!!
Ruby is too cute!!!! And, Billy Boy talking back to you was hilarious. I love your sheep farm so much. Thank you for sharing your life with all of us. God bless 🙏💗🌻🙏💗🌻
This is the interesting part. Seeing the organization and the repetition shows the rhythm of the farm. It's like a drummer being upset that he keeps the beat. Keeping the beat is important. All the little extras like how the pet sheep are doing or weird events keep it fresh.
Each day after lunch I put my grandson down for his nap. I am so eager after to curl up with the remote and watch you! Thanks for working so hard for us!
Too awesome! Thank you for being here!
the rams look so funny when it comes to breeding time, the faces just make me laugh so hard I cry a bit
Fascinating. The science involved in farming is really interesting.
As always, grateful for you and all that you do. Truly, my spirit is lifted when I read your words and learn from your videos. Time is precious and I appreciate that you give your time. Have a blessed and safe weekend 🤍🐑🤍
I wish I was a ram on your farm. Free housing, food, water and loving 24/7
Albert Einstein but only during breeding week! The rest of the time, the boys are segregated! Lol
I love your videos! The only experience I've ever had with sheep has been show lambs that my nieces and nephew raised. My daughter raised show goats in High School at the school districts Ag Barn. I have learned so much from you and love watching your videos!!! The area of Texas I live in doesn't have much mutton or lamb demand. But I wish I had the acreage or barn area and I would raise sheep for family consumption. My sister would share ground lamb and a few chops with me after they had their livestock butchered and it was always a treat!
You are an inspiration to so many. Keep up the great work.
Billy is such a momma's boy (and that is a GOOD thing to be honest) :D
The thumbnail is hilarious 😂
Couldn’t resist!!!
Thank you for sharing your days with us!
Thank you Sandi , for all you do to teach us and entertain us. Your days are busy enough without all the editing and such. So thank you.
We all feel like you're a close friend , if not family. So anything you do is fascinating to us.
Your channel is about to really take off. Don't be afraid to look for help with editing and tech .
❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦☕️☕️
I find the “lamb stuff” interesting and I’m sitting in my backyard in Pennsylvania. You explain everything so well and I’m fascinated by the whole process.
Carissa's face when you're describing cleaning the CIDRs 😂😂😂 my thoughts precisely, Carissa! Ewwwww!
I love it! It somehow makes me feel involved and I love seeing lambing time. I have to say I have seen other sheep vlogs but the sheep were not like yours. They didn’t look as healthy as yours and were not as attractive. You have a beautiful herd and I love seeing them. I enjoy the harvest too so whatever you have the time for...I’m happy. Thank you.
Ram power🐏
😂😂🐏🐏
always makes me chuckle
Billy is so demanding... 😍😍😍
I can't wait till Christmas. I love love love the tiny lambs. They grow up so fast.
Billy loves you too. Funny expression on their faces. God Bless.
This was a great way of showing the activity more accurately. I definitely agree. Tysm again for another adventure.
The lip curls and the blubbering just cracks me up every time. My goats are the same way ;-)
Awesome and very interesting! Not only is it physically demanding it’s intecually demanding. You’ve got what it takes and what you’ve chosen to do makes sense to me. Now for the unknown...And looking forward to the results of breeding and the next lambing. 🐑🐑🐑✌️🙏❤️🇨🇦👍💪💪💪
Billy makes me smile every time.
All those numbers just went right over my head. 😜 But I don't have to remember them, I'm just along for the ride. 😁 December babies! Praying for good, healthy results for those ewes!
Lol!!! That’s why I write this stuff down.😂😂
It is very interesting. Both from a lamb consumer as well as a knitting perspective - and lambs are adorable!
Super awesome amazing and wonderful. I love the details. Hugs from Halifax
Always interesting, thank you ❤
Hey Brock family!👋 Doing a good job, keep up the good work! 😆❤👍
Omg love billy hes so cute roll on the next lot of baby lambs another awesome video sandi you do one hell of a job looking forward to the next video god bless you all take care stay safe
Thanks so much Tracy!
Congratulations Sandi. Looks like your summer is going quite well. Great harvest and, so far so good, breeding season.
Thanks Dean!
Can't start my day without a dose of EweTube! Keep up the great work Sandi, you're an inspiration and being along for the ride is an absolute joy!
It is like watching the girls and boys at the freshman high school dance.... LOL
I love watching everything you do! My daughter asked me why I was watching lamb videos from Canada and I said why not??? Watching from Utah.... It's hot here also 🔥
Christmas babies...I'm so excited!!!!
I can’t believe we are already talking about Christmas lambs...how is it almost August already?
Sheep birds n bees are the best!!! The way Billy just wants your attention all the time is awesome, he's your little buddy!!! Looks like there's going to be a lot of Christmas babies this year!!! Can't wait!!!!!
My days are complete with Sandi and her Sheep!
I’m not a farmer but I’m seriously obsessed with the farming side of youtube weather it be those with a homestead or full on farming it’s awesome and seriously love every thing you do Sandi these animals are so loved and well cared for 😊
I get a Rosie the riveter vibe with the handkerchief in hair!
Great video......info and silly faced boys never gets old. Old lady here belly laughing at their antics. Not like I haven’t witnessed first hand....maybe I am just easily entertained🤓
I love your descriptions of things...
Hi Sandi :) Loved this format of video!! Following them to see different behavior over the span of a few days was perfect to show us the evolution of the process. Your creativity shines! Well done 'mam!
Love the tongue action on the boys. Lol
Cannot wait to see Billy getting to business (so he stays)!!! Busted through to try last pairing!!! He was so eager! Love the face of them!!!
I love your videos I did not know much about sheep apart from they have lambs in the spring and they live in flocks in big field’s and if get poorly then the farmer treats them and they used to sheep dip but you have taught me a lot because one day I want my own small holding with horses couple of sheep , pigs , goats etc and chickens so yes very informative so thank you
That’s great!
The rams are so cute and funny. Like dogs, they wiggle their tongue and pant. awww
Makes us chuckle a bit but its life and the way nature is .
