Good News everyone! When you do this, it does show messages from the printer when your ink or toner are low. So you do not have to install any other apps.
It didn't work for me!
It says "printing" put nothing comes out from the printer!

The ink tank system appears to be much better than the cartridge system czcams.com/users/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 and a lot cheaper to run. The machine was easy to set up. A small point but I thought they'd be a USB cable included to help with the set up but there was none. I've been using it now for a few weeks and it seems like a good product and superior to my previous printers which were all troublesome HP machines.

All the videos I watched acted like my Chromebook would just recognize the printer but it didn't. I realize this video is a couple of years old, but it really worked for me.

I cannot express how helpful this video was. I’ve had a printer for the past three year but always had trouble printing using my Chromebook. As a result, I could only managed to print from my phone. Now that school has moved to remote distance learning, it’s been a struggle to go through the process of printing on my phone each time. Especially when I could only access a certain page through my school Chromebook. Being able to successfully print from my Chromebook now is such a huge benefit for my learning. Finally! A REAL teacher ! Someone who wants us to All to be successful users. Briliant! My wife who is on a corporate network at home, shares a wireless HP Envy 5055 with me and my Chromebook, and everytime she calls her helpdesk, my printer disappears from the dropdown. ARG!!! This is a real fix, hopefully permanent but at least is a quick restore if. And now, the same printer is showing up again under it's original name. Go figure, but something was stripping the IP address I guess. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!! This has been YEARS of agony, at least ten.

I still use my HP DeskJet 842C printer purchased in 2000. It's the only printer that I have ever owned actually. The cartridges are quite large & last a decent amount of time. I just discovered that I could just hook up my new Chromebook directly to the printer with the USB cable & print. I hate spending lots of money on electronics that just become out dated in a few years. I'm thrilled that I can just print whatever I want on my 22 year old printer (that's not WiFi capable) from my new $119 Chromebook. I just hooked up the USB cable to my Chromebook, turned on the printer, went to destination & selected my printer. Easy to do & good enough for me. Your information was excellent, but didn't apply to my old printer It did flip a switch in my head for me to try this, however! Thanks! I sort of avoided Chromebooks for years, because I was concerned about printing. Wifi printer or not - It's still not a problem!
Yes, we can still use many older printers by just plugging it in directly into the Chromebook.
@@selmateacher7 I don't hear many people state that up front. All you heard for years was printing from a Chromebook required using Google Cloud Print (until early 2021). It led me to believe an older printer couldn't even be used with a Chromebook. I almost overlooked free printing could be done through a USB cable. Being/remaining clueless probably helped printer sales!

Wow! I purchased a refurb chromebox for $28 from a stranger on eBay (living on the edge, I know). I was frustrated when the outdated Chrome OS wouldn't work with my brand new Epson 3 in one printer. Your IP address workaround did the trick. Thanks a ton!

My laptop died unexpectedly and I had no other recourse but to purchase this Chromebook---since it was the week before Christmas, everyone was sold out---this Chromebook was the only one left. Sir you are a life saver , was about to return the new Canon Pixma TS6420a that I got for $54.99 instead of $129.99 as when you go to add it on the Samsung Chromebook 2 it just kept saying not connected , although it shows , adding the IP Address made it pop up and now I’m able to print left and right , thank you so much 👏🏼

Thank you soooooo much! I've never had good luck setting up printers and I prefer my chromebook nowadays. You think Google would have kept cloud print. Printing anywhere in world and have it print to your house by time you come home would be an awesome feature. Cant believe Google won't support this anymore. Anyways, this is the only video that helped me set up a printer to my chromebook! Just bought a new epson printer and thought I was gonna fail again with the set up for chromebook. But this is only video that saved me. Thank you soooooo much! Couldn't find it address in settings cuz I didn't even know how to access it. Settings wouldn't show me anything. Spent 2 hours on this until I found this video. I ended up having to print a status sheet to find the printers info.

Worked for me. I have a HP DeskJet 4650. It works. I don't know why they didn't have me set it up that way to start with. That is a more standard way than Cloud printing. Explanation well done. Thanks

My printer - HP Smart Tank Plus 551 3 months old, connecting to Chromebook. Prints great from iphone, I'm about to restore my Chromebook in attempt to try this method again to Print! Any thoughts? @@deannaabbeyauto1087 Are you able to set up the HP printer with a Chromebook for a wireless or wired connection? On some printers, I have seen that plugging them straight into the Chromebook via the USB cable worked. But you should be able to connect without wires on that printer. Have you tried using the Bluetooth to connect it to the Chromebook?

As a former IT Person - now retired a few years - this is simply know as IP printing and used on a variety of platforms.
Caution - this may have changed from my days - when network printers are setup they should be assigned a STATIC IP address - that is one that does not change. The installation software for your printer may use DHCP to get an IP address - This address can change without notice. Then You won't ne able to print from your chromebook to that printer,
Most user computers IP addresses are assigned an IP by DHCP - Dynamic Host Control - essentially DHCP has a pool of IP addresses that it pulls one from and lends to the user computer .
Make sure your printer is using static IP's - if you cant print to it verify the IP as you did in first steo

Didn't work on my chromebook without being in the same SSID network, like you said.
On a different server, it said it couldn't detect a printer.
I entered every IP address on the 4 pages it printed out.
None of them worked. Did what you said, without skipping any steps, worked straight away!
As a matter of fact, I didn't even need the IP address. It found the printer on its own through scanning the network it was on for other devices. All I had to do was click on the printer when it showed up on the screen, and hit "save". Thanks a million times over!
@7:12 the one in the middle is the printer I have. It's a Brother laser printer. You can go to my channel to see how to change the IP address manually.
I am here to help. A few things can cause this. One is when the printer is on a different network than the Chromebook. This happens because one router can have multiple SSIDs. . Now if the two devices are one the same SSID network, then it could be something else. Which printer model do you have? I will try to find a solution that works. We have even plugged printers straight into the Chromebook and that works on some. But if you have a wireless printer, I rather solve the problem with the network .

I just got my chromebook a few days ago, because I didn't like my MacBook, and I'm already thinking of going back to a windows based PC, because they are easier to work with, can run more programs commonly useful programs, and are upgradable with both hardware and software. Just a few things in there you can comment on lol

Great tutorial. My only difficulty was finding my printer IP Address. I didn't realize I could find it on the printer itself on the Print Reports setting. I was trying to set up a new brother printer to work with my new Chromebook. Once I realized where to find it, this was a great guide to syncing my chrome book to my brother printer. I am NOT tech savvy, so I'm really relieved it was this easy. The brother HL-L2350dw is a nice little laser printer that prints 2-sided documents really quickly. Super stoked.

Great simple fix for me, thanks! I printed all my settings from the printer itself and that was all the reference info I needed. Cool. The scary thing was, I didn't realize how much info my Brother printer stores in memory regarding prints, errors, maintenance, etc. Thanks again. PS, my HP Chromebook didn't stop talking to my printer until 3-14-21 on my Xfinity home wifi setup.

thank you thank you thank you!!!! i finally figured it out. it would be helpful to have an updated video with more interaction on printer settings. took me awhile to figure out my settings and realize my network connections were not matching,. had to call brother support and manually set up my wlan which then helped pair up my printer with my chromebook. 3 hours of troubleshooting and voila, i can print!
I am happy that the video helped. I would love to do a video on printer settings, but each brand and model are different so it would not help everyone, but thank you for the suggestion.

I followed your instructions. I got all the way to the destination part. That was when I hit a snag. My destination button just spun, like it was loading. I was never able to click on it but I still wanted to tell you thank you for your help. I will have to figure out another way to fix this problem. Once again thank you for your help.
Please make sure that both devices are on the same SSID.
Also, please check the printer model number with the word "Chromebook" on a Google search to confirm compatibility.
You may restart the Chromebook or if that still does not work, you may do a powerwash as seen here:
