Dave was completely biased in his commentating. He was not describing what was happening. He saw mercer winning every single exchange.
Yea even when the slomo was showing all of Mercers punches missing or being blocked and Holyfields landing flush. Holyfield dominated the slugging exchanges.
The counter punching by both is great.Holyfield is one of the greatest counter punches ever.He beat Buster Douglas with a counter punch.
Buster Douglas was out of shape for that fight, he was still riding high from his win over Tyson

I was in the Army with him and Hembrick. The majority of my friends were with the Ft Bragg boxing gym. During a spar in our common area, Ray hit me in the chest; I was in high guard, he went between my elbows. I thought he broke me in half and stopped my heart. At the time, I was bigger than him and Hembrick.

Holyflield was past his prime,but still had enough left to beat a strong club fighter like Mercer. Holyfield used to throw combinations all night long before, but here only in short controlled bursts. But that was plenty. The old Holyfield would have knocked out Mercer. Mercer seemed in shock. Actually he told the Doctor he was in shock.

Mercer looked like he skipped out on a lot of his training camp for this fight. Holyfield always seemed to come prepared by contrast. Mercer had so much potential, but sometimes showed up flabby and out of shape.
He had a rib injury in training, if i remember correctly.
Amazing Holyfield at 209 could beat Mercer at 224 , but Morrison at over 220 was K .0. Ed.
Holyfield was 208 when he beat Buster Douglas who was at 246.

It is hard to think of a more vile boxer than Mercer. The whole fight is dirty tricks. A healthy bully without special technique, everything was based exclusively on dirty techniques, everything to break and finish the opponent. It's unpleasant to watch.

Mercer won this one and Holyfield should've had points deducted for punching Mercer while down. Holyfield elbowed and headbutted a lot too, he was a dirty fighter on the juice.

I believe Ray would've won this fight had he did some wicked work to Holyfield body with big body shots. Fighters don't realize how important that is and it should start in round 1. He didn't do it.
