    Thank you for showing us and teaching us how to make this simple basket. All our children should learn such techniques in school instead of being filled with foolish propaganda.

    Thanks for sharing this Bert, in a way it kind of reminded me of a series that used to be on in the early seventies with Jack Hargreaves, i used to love coming home from school and watching him on a TV much like the one in the back ground, all the very best to you.

    Sir, thank you for sharing your craft here. As I live in the Southeastern USA were people still garden I believe those would be quite handy. You've also helped me solve a slight issue with a possible planter box idea constructed from a nuisance hedge row tree. Handcrafted items are making a comeback, thanks to wonderful people like you sharing how it was done in the past. Now, I just need to build my own shaving horse.

      I am sure people in all parts of the USA still garden. Very narrow insular thinking to say otherwise. Also Hand crafted items may be making a come back where you are but where I am they never went away.

    Humans could use a good dose of revisiting the traditional makers of the world and their practical skills. Useful products brought to you by skilled craftspeople in tune with the land and its renewable resources. Who could ask for more?

    Very enjoyable and well made video. I dabble in black ash basketry and love to see how other cultures fashion containers. My hope is the craft of basketry will have a major revival. Truly renewable containers are sorely needed. Plastics are ruining the world. I'm imagining which north american woods I'd make a trug from. I'm in northern NY and white oak is pretty scarce and pricey. Tons of ash but the ash borers have finally arrived and ash is under threat. I'm trying to fill my pond with logs before it's all gone.

    Is the lack of being water proof actually a feature? I would imagine these get left out in the rain from time to time. Better that the rain drain than collect and rot it.

    Are you able to advise where we can buy the willow and chestnut poles from Bert?

    • @richswain7154
      @richswain7154 Před 8 měsíci

      Chestnut grows abundantly in Sussex, Hampshire and parts of Dorset. Historically, it was coppiced but that is dying out. It can be bought via the Internet. Willow grows in abundance everywhere, and willow poles are harvested about every 10 or 12 years. I'm just about to drop a line of willows I pollarded 10 years ago.
