Easy Trug Build from Scrap Wood

- In this video we will be making a great looking trug style basket from some offcuts left over from other projects. A Traditional Trug is quite complicated requiring specialist jigs, this build doesn't require any jigs and is easy to make with simple tools.
Did I say it looks great!
Will it work or be a disaster?
This is a 1 day woodworking project.

Not a bad Idea, I got some recently and they were dead straight untreated wood ripe for reuse

This is quite a simple project, it could be done with hand tools only :-)
Please can you explain why when drilling the pilot holes for the handle you sit a piece of wood ontop of the trug first? Is this to stop the wood splitting? I'm new to carpentry and trying to learn, so apologies if this is a basic question!
Hi, thanks for the question, the bit of wood was a template for the holes, you might call it a simple doweling jig, you have to make sure the holes for the dowels line up in both parts. Hope that helps.
Thank you. I watched a very useful tip this morning where a guy tapped in two panel pins to the handle, cut off the heads, held it over where the handles needed to go and hammered it gently so they marked the receiving timber. He then was able to drill in the correct location. I went to my carpentry lesson today, tried it out and it worked a treat. Everyone very impressed at what I have achieved. Just added a stain to it this evening and stencil ready to decorate it tomorrow. Thanks for your tutorial. Really helped me get started and I love using up leftovers.
