99% of people would have absolutely no idea the work involved in that one piece of skirting. Very nicely done
they would just get Poly baseboard, considering this one ended up painted anyway
@@igorp
Fair point
Needed a curved oak skirting 6 years ago... they steamed it !
@@leecrook6918
Yeah that can be a bastard though. And you need a steamer on site and all the flaff that goes with it.
This guy has done a good job with lam bending
You can order a custom piece of flexible moulding. Much less work same results.
As a joiner myself I have watched you before your a craftsman off the highest order
I hardly ever leave a comment but after watching this video I just have to say how much I enjoyed watching your very talented skills, great woodworking, great camera work and editing and a happy client (shame to hide it behind curtains and furniture) It is one of the best ones you have made and you deserve to do very well with it. I am too old now to do woodworking projects myself but watching you still inspires me if only in the mind, please carry on making these great videos they give me so much enjoyment and pleasure thank you. Chris Harker.
I agree with Chris... "shame to hide it behind curtains and furniture". Beautiful work.
Really nice work 👍
@@rossmckenzie2283😅
Was this a clients house
To have some one committed to a tidy workplace, and attention to detail is so rare. Top job.
Top class and level of detail that’s gone in to one section of skirting is more than a lot of people put into their house!
The master strikes again! Amazing!
And they plonk seats and dare to hang curtains over it 😅 There will be a joiner in that house, in years to come, that will not admire the view and not admire the furniture, but check out the skirting and scratch their chin in appreciation. Lovely and inspiring work there Oli and Cripps 🤘
That floor scribe and crazy jig contraption is what seperates the masters from the caulk happy DIYer. Very nice job.
These “content creators” with little real skill or experience can never compare to a true craftsman that’s on top of his game. Well done. And thank you for sharing your skills.
A nice bit of quarter round beading and job's a belter🤣🤣. Totally astonishing job. Clients must be well chuffed.
The amount of work that goes into this is amazing and your spindle Moulder is genius
Love the channel keep it up👌
That's one EXPENSIVE bit of skirting right there!!
You sir deserve a major pat on the back, not just for the end product but the while project.
Canadian carpenter here. My hats off to you sir, that was f'n cool. Earned my subscription.
The attention to detail! Even the levelling feet on the spindle jig, a very well thought out process achieving absolute perfection, well done sir
Having made a similar skirting to this (although with oak construction veneers) I fully appreciate how difficult this lamination to be. Well done for actually constructing this on site and then spindling the mould on your own, when we did it we templated the curve and made cauls to match and glued up in the workshop. We even wimped out and had 4 of us on the spindle, so again very impressive on your own. Great to see that there are still craftsmen out there willing to take the difficult approach to such a task, although I think you will find yourself very much in the minority. Always enjoy your videos as they bring back happy memories of previous work I have completed. Curved work always distinguishes the craftsmen from the tradesmen.
You and Cripps make a great team, well done fantastic job. Love your videos you should be proud of this result.
Hi Ollie and Cripps ... I subscribe to quite a few Joinery/Woodworking channels on CZcams but yours is by far my favourite. Your craftsmanship, attention to detail and all-round knowledge are first class. I think you are amongst the last of the era of expert woodworkers, these days it seems that most are only capable CNC operators.
"quite satisfying when your bandsaw cuts well"... I have no choice but to take your word for it 😂
I hope any 1 watching this understands how difficult this is to make, when in the shop, even harder on site near home and hard when 4 hours away. Here was all the preparation done, so well executed and even a dog in the end. Hats off.
One minute in and it’s already epic - seriously impressed….
Thankyou, really hope you enjoy, this one was a huge effort
Hi Ollie and hello Cripps! 😁 It's great to see what's involved in a 'simple' request for a curved skirting board. And what a fine job you made of it - with a little help of course.😂👍
Oliver, I haven’t left a comment before but I have watched many of your videos. I’ve been so impressed with your skill, craftsmanship, work ethic and inventiveness / ingenuity. You are a resourceful grafter!
This video and the one about building your mobile ‘spindle moulder’ encapsulate a lot about what I enjoy in your work.
As a bonus, I’ve learned a heck of a lot for my own hobby woodworking.
Applause is due! 👏🏽
Hand picked craftsman by a very wealthy customer. Lovely job.
Insane attention to detail, planning and execution. True gem. This is a best shipwright quality job and somehow reminds me of Tally Ho rebuilding project.
I sit here shaking my head in wonder at the planning, expertise and attention to detail; and you deserve to be lying down on the job at the end. Hello, Cripps, it’s lovely to meet you and I hope your family emergency was resolved. And hello to Ted. Regards as always. Ray 🌞
The worlds most expensive length of skirting!!! Nice job 👍
Nice teamwork on display. The skirting looks as if grew there! Great work!
Had every finger crossed when it came time to cut the mitre on that curved bit! Brilliant job.
That ended up looking amazing. It's a shame that most people will have no clue how much time and effort it takes to make. Let alone look that good. I hope you're able to keep putting the videos out. They are an inspiration
Too much work.
Yourself & Cripps can be rightly proud of that job, Ollie - superb craftsmanship! 👏
Lovely work. I always think putting something like that together is a bit like pulling jenga blocks out of the puzzle, the more steps you have to do the more the anti gets upped. Putting that moulding in with that jig was awesome. If I got anywhere near close to that, then that’s where I’d mess it up 😂
Wow! Nice $2000 piece of moulding. I am a bit more of a hack. It's painted so a few laminations of hardboard glued and nailed in place with a cap moulding and shoe would have worked for me. Also i don't have that magical band saw for ripping the tulipwood. This friends is true craftsmanship, what i do is more crapsmanship. Excellent work!
Amazing work.
Master at work right there !! Love the home made spindle !! Quite possibly the single most bit of skirting in the country i recon 😂
best channel of woodworking
Excellent quality job. Nice to see others who are prepared to take on seemingly difficult jobs too. I'm in Manchester and we have a lot of properties with similar round bay windows usually with jointed skirting. Yours is far more impressive but not many would pay the cost unfortunately.
Hi Ollie and Cripps, great video as usual. Have been a carpenter for 30 years but am always inspired and amazed by your work.
My heart was in my mouth when you began cutting on your home-made spindle moulder. Having just made some perfectly straight 3 metre lengths of 125 x 22mm maple skirting, using a Victorian Ogee cutter in a Jessem router table, I know just how stressful this was for you. Good to have Cripps there to keep you calm - very well done! Your videos just get better and better, I never want them to end; thank you for posting such interesting, educational and instructional videos.
Magnificent job! And then they put furniture in to hide the masterpiece!! And well done Cripps!
Seriously superb job!!!! Excellent video and great teamwork. Keep them coming!!!
This is fabulous. I actually repaired a door as well as the sill and frame in my 206yo house using techniques I've learned watching your videos. The level of craftsmanship on display here is nearly unmatched these days and sadly underapreceated
Edit: I live in NEW England so 206 years is fairly old for a house here lol
206 years is fairly old for a house in the UK too to be fair
I would 1) use bendable base moldings. 2) make 22.5 degree cut (instead of 45 degree) for the rounded corner. 3) shorten the curved baseboard molding so that it doesn't push out the shorter molding.
Agreed, the bullnose pissed me off. But impressive skills, scribing and video editing. Tips hat to a master carpenter :-)
Pretty sure it was done like that to run parallel with the inlay detail in the flooring. Bit of a compromise as to which would be more noticeable when the job was complete. Proper job, keeping the skills alive and not just another house bashing site chippie.👍
A great JOB! MR Bradshaw! Really came out the BALLS! Keep up the good work!
This was a mighty task, perfomed with honours and ingenuity. Impressive! And combined with the video of your custom building the portable spindle moulder, armed with a circle saw as power source, for this job, makes this just more ingenious and impressive indeed. Love your channel. Keep up the good job!
Got to admire the whole process & the thoughts behind it, nevermind the perfect execution. The moulder was just genius & so pleased to see you've taken on an apprentice 😊
I am impressed. That’s an awful lot of work. I just recently did something similar and I used flexible polyurethane molding. They make it in most standard profiles as well as custom. A lot of flat stock as well that can be stacked/combined to create your own profiles. Tight radii only needs a heat gun and patience.
It is clear that you have a lot of experience and skill. I really enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful craftsmanship. Hello to Cripps!
I’ve never wrote a comment in my life. But this is just amazing, as a carpenter my self I understand the amount of work that goes in to something like this. A proper amazing job.
I did the same job for my sister 20 years ago with just a panel saw and a stream to soak the wood in the water for a couple of week and then cut it every 10mm, it took days and I screwed it on it still looks good to this day. She doesn’t know how lucky she was I did it. Never did another one. This one is total perfection done by a master craftsman.
First class piece off joinery work must. Say. As a joiner myself mighty impressed.
Incredible job. Amazing care and precision!
I would like to know how many brain cells Oliver blew up getting the setup and preparation sorted. It's obvious that most of the work associated with this install was done before the wood was measured and cut. It's this attention that makes Oliver's product as exceptional as it is. I sure hope the client appreciates the time and effort. Good support by "Cripps". Tidy work sites make the difference.
Your skills are amazing I learn so much from you and personally would like to thank you for the time you share doing this. Also I love the interaction with the farm Coming from the farming side myself well done
Insane amount of work for a skirting board. Well done 👍
I have never seen such a skill. You are a genius at the craft, a master craftsman at work. I only wish that I served my time with your good self.
Amazing work, well done, also to your partner for her excellent assistance
I have done many bent laminations but all have been in my shop. To have done this all in one shot, in the field, complete with a formed profile on mobile molder is absolutely impressive. I loved the wedge floor template. I continue to learn lots from your videos. Cheers!
Sheer skill, but we have come to expect nothing less from you, Oliver. Top job, expertly done.
Hey Brother, hands down my favorite part of this one was the "Glamor" pose at the end!! LMAO. Truly inspiring job, you got some skills Man...
Always learning new things on this channel
Thank you so much. Marking the mitre point on masking tape on the floor. Why have i never thought of that. Doh!
That's a whole lotta work for some skirting! Fairplay, looks great
All that beautiful workmanship , hiding behind the curtains and chairs ❤❤❤❤
Excellent work, your client must be delighted!
Spent my formative years as a boat builder. Took ages getting used to making straight stuff... Great vid kid, thanks for posting.
Hopefully you hit your targets- you deserve it. Best content for woodworking so much better than than a lot of the guys doing only tool reviewers / content creation . And the new apprentice you have there !
Hi Ollie & Cripps. Fantastic job!👏🏻
Outstanding craftsmanship,an absolute pleasure to watch 👌
Hi cripps, what did it feel like watching a true craftsman at work. I bet you learnt a lot from your experience with Ollie. As I’ve said before excellence just keeps on giving. Loving all the posts at the moment.
Excellent craftsmanship mate! I used exactly the same method some years back for a client who wanted dado rail in a very curved hallway. Took ages to do but worked fine and once painted looked great just like yours👍👍
Great example of how much planning goes into a job which is not just round the corner project management box ticked 👍
Always give your videos a like, but this one deserves a massive WOW!!!!
Well done! Hey up Cripps - welcome aboard
Love watching your videos. You're a great educator. My wife and I sit down to watch you make stuff and admire your incredible knowledge and skill in joinery.
It's so nice to see someone of the female persuasion doing some physical technical work.
Great job, really well done. I was wondering how you were going to around the not having a spindle moulder on site... no part of me thought you were going to break out a homemade bloody spindle moulder!! Fantastic job. It actually looked easier doing it on there than it would have been to do it on a full size spindle moulder. Id have turned it into a 3 person job at our workshop at least! Always good to have people to share in the blame when it goes wrong
Firstly, Hello Cripps, secondly, what an amazing job. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Excellent craftsmanship & attention to detail! 👏🏻
Bloody good effort mate, that's what it takes to be a master craftsman well done.👏
You just could not have done it without Cripps - great job on this one !!
Wow, wow, and wow, what a fantastic job, I’m almost speechless, just brilliant 👍
Just discovered this channel is only all joiners work like this. I wouldn't have such trouble with them
Excellent job! The time in planning and working out how to do a complicated job on site pays off. Very well done Mr Bradshaw.
Hi, Oliver and Cripps! I learn so much from this channel. Thank you!
Absolutely loved this episode always liked skirting especially curved skirting, keep up the good work. 👏🙌🔥🔥
Exceptional Skills are shown in the video, Hello Cripps.
Gordon, Halifax, Near the village of Bradshaw.
As with all your work, another job done to the highest standards & of great quality !
Lots of hours gone into that piece of work. You should be rightly proud of the finished project.
Outstanding work, the standard of your work and the care you take to keep the clients home clean and damage free really is exceptional. Funny to see the flooring fitters didn't bother trying to detail around the curved bay!
Tremendous work. The order of operations is critical in a project like this. The custom molder jointer was perfect. Your customer will be proud to show off your skilled workmanship for years to come. Well done.
This is a great job. The one thing I would have done differently would be to install the baseboard [skirting board] before the corner beads were applied, and then the plasterer could have eliminated the big gap at the wall.
When I see rounded ( bullnose) corners, I always add a small piece between the larger pieces of baseboard 22.5° on each end and it fits like a glove without having to fill in the large gap
just wow
Beautiful work, and foreman Ted was clearly very happy to sign it off!
Now I'm looking at my 5 panel curved bay and thinking that I'll just make do with the "octagonal skirting" look 😂
Amazing quality work. Three thoughts: I didn't for a moment fall for the 'Manchester' story until you proved it by working in the rain; I shudder to think how much you had to charge the customer for such an involved job for 'just' a bit of skirting; and after all that the beautiful work just disappeared into the background behind the furniture and curtains. Still, you know it's there. And so do we!
As my father would have said “it looks like it grew there!” Fabulous work as always Ollie, definitely above and beyond on that one! 👍🏼👍🏼
You have great vision is seeing solutions the rest of us would just wing it…awesome
What a professional job. Well done!
👍🏻 What a blinding job. Great video too!
Stunning piece of craft work.
Too answer the question, depends on how much money you made. people paying you for what they think goes into this stuff and what you can actually charge is another thing. hope you did ok. also ,a long way to go for that job. well done hope you did ok on the price. Pride in your work is not forgotten here mate well done.
Served my apprenticeship In England in early 80's and moved to the states after, your videos bring me joy and back to my roots, I'm 58 now and you pump me up and keep me inspired. you maybe under appreciated by the customer but not by your fellow Tradesmen.
cheers.
