    I had a 2004 Silverado 1500 Z71 and it had a hard starting issue and stalled twice and eventually I lost the truck due to family problems etc.. after the first time I put 7gals of gas in and it still wouldn't make it more than a mile or two I had to leave it in a parking lot for a couple weeks and had to tow it to a family members house. It never started and idled on it's own after that either you could use starting fluid or gas to keep it running till you stopped spraying, it was also about 30⁰F so that didn't help. I changed fuel pump still nothing, checked pressure at the front and it sprayed fuel out but no fuel was getting to throttle body.

    I'm going down the list for a hard starting 05 durango. I put a new fuel evap valve and a air temperature sensor. It now starts immediately when cold, but once warm it's still same story. The strange thing is that I time it and it always fires up at 7 seconds and purs.
    I'm going to change the fuel filter next but not too sure.
    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks again!

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +3

      Do check the evap system as a whole. There may be air leak in the system.Not sure but the evap valve might open up when warm and air may enter like a vacuum leak. also replace fuel filter if too old. Also try disconnecting the new IAT sensor and start. New components may have different calibrations, just to be sure.

  • @sd906238
    @sd906238 Před 2 lety +4

    I had clogged fuel filter and my car would start and run fine until I got to 25-30 mph then it would die. It had a little tiny fuel filter. I cut the filter open and looked at it under a microscope. It had a simple plastic mesh screen. Every single opening in the screen had a rust particle in it. A week later the same thing happened again. I couldn't make it the last 1/4 mile to the ford dealer to get a new one. I thought I would of had more than a week before the new one clogged up. I solved the problem by putting a inline Fram fuel filter. It was way bigger and had a paper type filter. Years later I took the gas tank out to inspect it and found a bunch of rust in it. Georgia rain and humidity is really rough on anything that can rust.

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety

      God thats really weird, fuel acts same like oil to rust, ie antirusting properties. Its really rare to see rust in fuel lines and tank or anywhere it touches or meets, unless the rust is externally introduced.

    I have a fairly new battery and alternator in my car, but the past few days it has taken longer to turn over when starting it after it's been sitting overnight. I also noticed a couple times when the power seemed to dip a little at lower speeds. Is this a clogged fuel filter? If so, will replacing the filter take care of any problems?

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před rokem +2

      The starting issue could be high voltage drain from electronics and might drain the battery over night. Do check the current drain at idle. If the filter is too old do replace it like more than 2 years or more than 40k miles on it. Also the filter if clogged mostly shows its symptoms at high engine speeds or at heavy load where fuel requirements are high. Do check the spark plug if greasy, clean throttle body, check any air restrictions like bad filter, or vacuum leaks.

Do clean the intake sensors maf n map first. The whining sound isn't a good sign though, may be the cvt is wearing out. So do clean the sensors first also check the vvt system is working good. Hi a no start cannot be a transmission issue. Replace the filter if its too old, check the fuel pressure on demand. A fuel regulator which is about to fail used to give such symptoms. Also a failing Throttle position sensor or dirty throttle body too used to give such issues.

      It sounds like the pump itself to me. The only thing that should sound when switching on the ignition is the intank fuel pump. If you change fuel filter regularly and still its making lound noises, two things can be suspected. one the pump itself is failing nd it need more time to pressurise the lines. It makes loud noise bcs it cannot work on the fuel pumping load. Two, some how air gets in the line when it sits for long. As the delivery line is pressurised, fuel may leak out through the breach but if its return line which is not pressurised fuel may not leak but may have room to get the air in.

      Hi there, firstly filter is a service part and cheap, so if the filter is too old or have more than 25k miles on l, its better to replace. And if the issue reoccurs, do check for the pump and regulator. Fuel pump usualy when used to give loud humming or whining sound and eventually car refuses to start or need long cranking time. on the other hand with bad filter, usually car starts fine but refuses to rev up, misfire or even stall at highr engine rpms or at huge load where the fuel demand is high.

      Normaly if the rpm goes high but no power then it's sure there's an issue with clutch system or torque converter or the transmission. Its a good idea to diagnose before fail.

      @@dailyhandsdiy First of all I really appreciate you taking the time out to respond to my issues.. I have a 03 Cadillac deville which you can see in my videos. All of my issues where do to me having very low trans fluid 😳 before panicking and being told it might be my trans going out or the torque converter which are fine. I never thought to check the fluid. It was bairly any fluid on the stick and I was able to see it was very low.. I put trans fluid in crossed my fingers put it in drive and It pulled off with no problem. I put it in reverse, I felt the shift and it backed up with no hesitation at all. I took it for a drive and it drove as it did and always have..perfect. I blew it out to 100mph on the freeway. Even as driving through the streets and stopping at the lights, no issues at all,no sluggishness,no high rpms, it drove beautiful. So my issue was low trans fluid which was the cause of what was happening. The Transmission Fluid is very important and plays a major role with a car's performance. "Now" I did notice small drops of fluid on the ground. So apparently it's a leak somewhere which I would rather deal with than dealing with needing a new transmission. I do need to fine where that leak is coming from as well as changing the fuel filter, which I'm well overdue. But anyone that's having these same symptoms may need to check the trans fluid before thinking it may be something major. Which would lead to having to change something major if the small issue isn't taking care of. I just wanted to share that with you to let you know all is well. Thanks for responding, god bless

Waited again another 5 mins started it and exit off the high way . Drove home under 40 mph it was fine . I tried to find out what the issue was and realized when I gas it hard to catch up to speed it will shut off . Anyone know a solution to this problem ? No check engine light . This could be an air starvation or fuel starvation. As said while pressing the accelerator, motor needs more air and fuel to pull away. Check the air filter n fuel filter,if its too old chnge it. There are other reasons like failing fuel pump, leak in regulator, issues with throttle body, greasy spark plugs. Check the fuel pressure from pump, condition of spark plugs, check throttle body functions.

      Could be one the reasons, as a preventive you may change the filter and see, there are other reasons too like, a bad throttle body or its motor, too much junk in map sensor, vaccum leaks or even failing ignition coil in multiple cylinders. Could check one by one. All except coil may not throw a CEL. but its electronics have to go through each of them.

      Hi there,may be its the filter, replace if its too old, also the air filter too. Fuel filter will be under the car,you can find the lines going from tank to engine. There are other reasons for the same as well,ie too much dirt inside the throttle body or malfunctioning sensors. First step should be the sensors. Check if there's any engine troubles codes from auto diagnostic center.

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +1

      For most cars with intank filter, there'll be a opening on the vehicle floor just above the tank. Find the door, open it which will give the top side of tank where the fuel pump unit is pushed inside the tank. Normaly they are fastened with a plastic single piece fastner. Remove the fastner pull up the pump assembly, disconnect the cables, tearup the assembly there you can see the filter,replace it, assemble the pump unit,fit it back. The only thing to consider will be when you tear up the units and forgetting how to assemble back. :D
