      Small point, but MAF has one job: inform computer of the rate of air delivery through the sensor. It has no idea what the state of the engine is and is a pure input used as a baseline. EGR does not affect its output. There are corrections to that input made using MAP and manifold air temp, and those do get affected some by egr operation [per engine rpm] - those computer corrections do not change MAF sensor response characteristics or output stability. Also, O2 [and AFR sensor if equipped] will force fuel trim corrections on the fly. If egr system fails closed, fuel trim goes positive to offset extra amount of oxygen rich air ingested. If egr fails open [least likely scenario], trim should go negative up to a certain rpm, tapering back to zero along the way..

    thank you so much for this video. I think after watching this, I have figured out what's wrong with my car. a dealership had it for awhile for some other things like water pump, freeze plug, o rings, few others. I get mycar back and now it stalls while I'm driving and esp. while in park but not all the time, just sometimes-mostly when first started and taken somewhere. After I drive it and it warms up, it won't do it. It also while driving sometimes acts like it's in neutral-I will press the gas and nothing. rpm's do n't go up. the car won't move and after a min or so of that it'll jerk and go on down the road. My gas mileage has went down a lot quicker than it used to as well. Your video describes everything it's doing and a code reader did bring up Egr valve and Egr circuit control. Going to get egr replace and hope and pray this fixes the issue. I can't keep driving it like this.

      @Jay Yoyo I don't have a radiator cap on radiator. My car only has a place to put it in the overflow jug and it's at it's proper level. I check that often because the first issues that started all this was a cooling problem. water pump, timing belt(my pump is internal near the timing), freeze plug and o rings on back of engine. all that was fixed by a dealership that also screwed us over. i get it back from them fixing that stuff and I have this problem now trying to figure out.

    My car has been suffering from the 1st symptom for a few weeks now, when the engine is cold, there is noticeable vibration when idling at traffic stop, and when the auto transmission downshifts to full stop, the car felt like threatening to die off. Suspected bad engine mounting, bad spark plugs, and dirty O2 sensor. Went to a workshop, the guy checked and discounted all 3 causes. Then he decided to do EGR valve delete by blocking it off and voila now the symptom is gone.

    This video helped alot. Had real bad rough idle on 07 4.0 mustang. The plugs, wires, and coil pack are brand new. I did notice a fuel smell but I thought maybe just typical car smell. I ended up buying a new OE motorcraft EGR valve after checking everything it could possibly be. Put the sucker (literally) in and the car runs like a dream at idle while in drive finally. Old one was pretty rusted out, dirty and was probably +10 years old so I guess it was just due to get replaced. Car barely has 100k but I'm fighting age instead of miles with this old ride.

I did spill the coolant that was in the EGR into the engine bay, so I thought it might just be evaporating, but it's not coming from where it seemed to spill. I turned the car off as soon as I noticed, but despite running for only a minute or so the exhaust manifold was already extremely hot.

    I have 2 identical Nissan Sunny year 1998. One of them consumes more fuel than the other. While both engines are running,i press the diaphragm of the EGRs. The engine of the most economic one stalls while it has no effect on the other one. Does having no effect means that the EGR is faulty??
    Thank you

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +3

      Hi there, i din get how you pressed it. Most egr if opened more than its command to, engine dies. It doesn't mean the egr is bad, it means when you handled one, the port must have opened more than it should be. You may check each egr by dismantling them and suck through the pipe and see if it it closes properly.
      Also a bad maf sensor can cause this. The one which stalled must have a cleaner maf sensor so it read the change in intake flow. When egr opened up more it consumes more gas from exhaust causing no fresh air or limited fresh air to be inhaled. maf senses this and cuts the fuel off. If maf is not clean, or bad it cannot respond to the intke change and provides normal fuel rates when at idle.

    • @durrypompe3850
      @durrypompe3850 Před 2 lety +2

      @@dailyhandsdiy thank you for your prompt response my friend. Stall is a normal behavior when the EGR's diaphragm is compressed from beneath . The most economic car(Car 1) stalls when diaphragm is compressed. But the other one (car 2)doesn't.. does it mean that it is stuck open? MAF sensors are clean. I interchanged the MAF sensors but still same issue on car 2. Car 2 not only consumes more fuel but also hesitates when changing gear. Changed fuel pump and filter, but still same issue. May the EGR valve be faulty?

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +1

      It doesn't mean the egr is faulty or stuck open, if its stuck open you will get a trouble code on performance variation related to maf sensor. The one with good clean egr stalls, but the other might have stuck closed gate path or the soot must have chocked the path. You may check it, just remove it first visualy check for soot, next check if its properly closed or stuck partially open. press in the diaphram and check the valve n plunger opens up and closes smoothly. Also check the vacuum on the line. If the control solenoid is bad, things get messy too. Also if you have a obd scanner cross check the maf sensor reading ie air flow on both cars if one is higher than other.

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před rokem

      Hi there, appologies for the late reply...you may delete the egr if it make troubles and cannot resolve. remember you are violating emission control rules. And the pros are much better low end torque and initial take off, a slight smooth rev, gas mileage depends the way one drives, clean engine, slow carbon deposit in engine oil. Cons include failing emission tests, a slight more engine noise, chances of knocking.
      Once the egr is deleted, keep the engine rev lower most of the time so the piston crowns n head gasket wont get burnt. Im sure you will get enough power at the low revs to take off and overtake.

      @dailyhandsdiy  Před rokem

      If its a high mileage vehicle, its quite normal to hear a bit more knocking for the first 10 to 15 mins or bit more. Its egr that causes the difference. EGR stays closed for that period of time till the engine temp reaches a stage. If the thermostat is not closed properly, can cause more time to get engine hot. So the engine fires up and runs better without egr and cause knocking noise and a bit more vibration. This settles downs when egr opens up and smoothens the engine. This also happens if the egr is sticking intermittently. Also do clean the nozzle tips if its not cleaned before. Note. These are just some guesses have to do a proper check up.

    So I broke an egr vacuum line on my dodge caravan trying to change the ignition coil and no I have a knocking in the engine when accelerating but the code says it's probably the O2 sensor not sure what to do

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi there, when the vacuum line is broken, egr shuts close and more fresh air gets in. ie more oxygen for efficient combustion. This can lead to a small knocking noise from the engine. And as more fresh air gets in, the oxygen levels at exhaust might have gone high. Probably this might be the reason oxygen sensor code had shown up. Or the sensor might be broken. A broken sensor too can cause timing n injection deflections causing the engine to knock. Check, clean or replace the oxygen sensor first to see if knocking goes away.

      EGR is actually controled by ECM itself. ecm uses readings from map, maf and pedal position sensor to calculate the engine load demands. All these are used to control the egr functions. Try cleaning all the intake air sensors first and using a scanner check if each and every sensor has a good reading especially map. Check the wiring for any damages.

    I have a 2011 escape that was getting around 350 miles to a full tank now I'm getting around 250 on a tank I have replaced the plugs the air filter out a lockout gas cap on it and ran Lucas injector into as well still having the same mileage til I have to fill up again which like I said is around 250 miles instead of 350 have not had any accidents with it...any ideas would be helpful..could it be the O2 sensors near the cat ??

      Long start on morning is either maf sensr issue or fuel related issue. clean the sensor. Check the intank motor if failing, air leaks in fuel line, there's one sensor in fuel rail and a regulator, check the regulator, change fuel filter if too old. EGR wont cause this issue in cdti engine.

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety +1

      Yup there's a sensor on air filter box,which has an air temp meter in it. Clean that sensor completely. And the diesel common rail regulator Or DRV. It regulates the diesel pressure in the fuel system. And like said check for any leaks in the diesel lines. If there's a leak,when at idle air gets into the line and the fuel pump takes time to fill up. And yes there's a fuel temp sensor in the engine, do check that too.

    • @dailyhandsdiy
      @dailyhandsdiy  Před 2 lety

      This topic is common for both diesel n petrol heads using port (petrol) n direct injection. Modern tech engages vvts in petrol instead for a egr and egr device will be missing from those makes.

      Hi there, yes egr can cause the same code to pop up. If the egr is sticking, pre defined values on the maf air intake changes which cause the maf range performance code to pop up. This code is also stored when there's a vacuum leak or pressure leak in the intake side like pcv leaks, throttle body leaks, torn pipes, or more.
