    Frist off let me say I'm sorry for this, the BeeGees are awesome very talented singers and song writers they have 100!! Top 10 songs to their credit I mean who else can say that, also all the proceeds from Too Much Heaven went to charity 100%, i was also blown away by the harmony of this song for years and I've been keeping this information to myself but everyone gave this guy such a hard time about auto tune and yes its way before auto tune but he's right in a way what your hearing is Barry voice tracked many times, double track is very common this is multiple tracks of Barry singing the same part and over laid on itself, that is why he thought he could here auto tune, so actually it's a very could early production of I guess you could say lip syncing, not sure of all that went into this video and how it was made but I know we're listening to Barry voice tracked multiple times, ya it killed me when I found out, sorry its not what it appears to be just them and the orchestra.

      I feel like this technique was used by the Carpenters early 70's and Jam and Lewis said they did it for Janet records. I think its more than Barry falsetto..Maurice was top voice in the 3 part harmonies. Sadly the twin brothers are gone. I recommend looking at the later mature version of The Bee Gees live. "One Night Only" and "Live by request" They do "too much heaven" acoustically. Be kind to one another.

      @@dee71957 I agree with you on the involvement of Maurice and Robbin in the the mix, I just wanted to get the general point across with out writing a book, if you listen close you can here a deep voice in the mix at times, in some ways the popularity of Barry's falsetto was pushed to much I think it's the song Emotion that has Robbin kicking in some really cool lines they could have used more of that in my opinion, early on the competition for lead on songs is what broke up the Bee Gees for a little while when they got back together Robbin took more of a back seat, before the break up Robbin sang lead on many songs Massachusetts being my favorite, I watched a interview with one of the studio guys who was involved in the recording of Too Much Heaven and described some of the process and part of that was how many times Barry's voice was tracked into the mix.

The one thing that gives them the superior range sound, not like they need it, is just the microphone that their singing into. That microphone is a recording microphone with gold ribbons inside for voice vibrations. If there was no music playing and it was completely silent in the room, you could actually hear their heartbeats in the microphone. So between the mic, the microphone settings for that particular room and their vocals arrangement, you have that angelic sound.. They are just amazing singers. Period!

      Strange & sad, the younger generation actually does not believe people used to be able to sing like Gods, without cheating, faking, or covering it up lol.
      This video WAS filmed LIVE at Criteria Studios with orchestra in 1979.
      It's obvious his Adam's Apple, which surrounds the vocal cords, is moving. Plus, during his falsetto runs etc towards the end, it would be extremely difficult/or impossible to lip sync any of that 100% perfectly, AND have your voice box moving appropriately to it. Just tryin to help you be able to understand how to spot lip synching easily. Im not here to debate if its recorded live. I'm telling you it is. Look it up if u want!
      Oh & yes, they remixed it just like everything else originally done in the 70's. Recordings would sound like an AM radio, but not after the remix. However, the Gibbs singing is from one take. They would insist on all 3 singing into a single mic to get the sound perfect. The twin on the left was mostly responsible for their perfect harmonization.

    The Bee Gees were the biggest selling recording act of the 1970's. What you hear is their real voices. No auto tune in the 70's. They are best known for their Disco hits like You Should Be Dancing, Night Fever, Staying Alive and their comeback hit called Jive Talking but they also had many ballads such as this one. You haven't heard nothing yet! They actually started as children and had many hits in the 1960's but hit a cold streak and re-emerged in the mid-70's bigger and better than ever.

    Auto tune wasn't a thing until the 90's. These artists had to have the talent with no electronic help.
    It is also incredibly difficult to sing a sustained falsetto with vibrato and Barry did it effortlessly. No his chest voice is still tenor but quite a bit lower.

    • @maelilmc4079
      @maelilmc4079 Před 2 lety +1

      His natural voice is actually baritone, lower than Robin and Mo’s natural voices. Phenomenal recording but this isn’t live - it’s 27 overlaid tracks, 18 of Barry and 9 of the brothers together.

      @@maelilmc4079 I know it's not live. They were in the recording studio. But I have seen live performances. I was speaking more about how great his falsetto is. Especially considering he discovered he could do it accidentally. Then he worked hard to get it to that amazing sound.

      @@toodlescae Lucky you, I never managed to see them live sadly. You should try and find the interview with Galuten & Richardson about the albums (Spirits and SNF). It’s really interesting, lots of anecdotes and tech stuff. Also v insightful about how they just remember Barry being in the studio all the time and ideas and music just flooding out of him. Said he was at the peak of his powers in terms of writing and singing then. Interestingly also said Robin & Mo just came in to do their bits and left.

    No autotune, just pure talent. Back when artists actually had to be able to sing and play, have substance. No cardboard cutouts thrust upon us by record companies on the basis of looks or stripping ability alone and no talent to back it up. It was 1979 and it's always great to see younger people appreciate the Bee Gees. They were awesome. Their style changed many times over the years but always the fantastic harmonies and songwriting ability. They wrote so many songs for other artists. Barry's falsetto is unmatched and his normal voice is also distinctive.
