Nice video! One point I would add. Once the oil and filter are changed and the level is good, start the engine and check for leaks before you put the bottom cover back on. You won’t be able to notice leaks as well, once the cover is back on.

The dealer always uses a fluid extractor. That's why the tube is there. The reason......profit . They do not take the floor plate off. Fluid extractors get 98% out of there.....just remember that the extractor cylinder has a fluid level. Check the amount removed. Add 7 quarts.....and check the level ....add more until its good. It will save you a ton of time and effort.

@@Alexfixty One more question, Is the noise of the engine normal on these RR's? i can hear the same noise mine sounds like when it's on idle. It's a bit scary, but the car runs just fine when is not idling and especially when i am driving it on the freeway. She drives like a jet, so I try not to think too much of it. Please let me know what you know. It sounds like a diesel truck when in idle. Thanks brother!

It was my understanding that the steel vacuum tube under the oil filler cap was built and designed by LR to extend to the very bottom of the oil pan. So it's not like putting plastic tubing into the dipstick. I doubt that the dealers remove the steel protective plate, because that might cut into their profit on an $850 oil change service. Personally, I have always used my pneumatic vacuum pump on my 2014 L405 for quick and easy oil and filter changes without ever having to get underneath. Thanks for the video.

I bought a basic hand pump extractor 15 years ago for $50. Between friends and family, it pays for itself almost monthly. It's idiot-proof. You don't touch the hot engine or oil (hot is actually good; it pumps easier). You don't need to jack the car, it accurately measures whatever you take out, and it's no big deal if you accidentally overfill. Some manufacturers recommend it because some drain plugs are no longer located at the low point of the pan but on the side due to ground clearance issues. Lastly, it makes dealing with the old oil much simpler. Now if they just agree on a canister wrench size instead of every car and every model having its own..

@@soundmiamithank you so much!! I was thinking about getting one too, but thought maybe only 70% of oil can come out. If it is that simple, then changing oil on this supercharged engine is as easy at it gets. No need to lift the car up whatsoever

    • @soundmiami

@@v12-s65yes, even the dealer vacuums it out the top but some models have splash deflectors which prevents 100% drain. the dealer’ will tell you . (Ironically they charge the same for an oil change either way)

Excellent video. It's always worth changing your own oil. You know it's done right and you are sure to get fresh oil, a new filter and new o rings and drain plug washers. Most auto parts stores take back used oil for no charge. This protects the environment. Again, great video and thank you.

Very informative presentation, and thorough procedures for oil change. Getting rid of waste oil is becoming an issue in some places in the United States. There are strict regulations in the town I live in, for doing this, because of environmental reasons of course. And people should be responsible in their actions. It has become more of a hassle than it is worth. So I to am from the old school methods, and has served me well for fifty years. I like what you have said in this video production, although I believe these Land Rovers are a bit over engineered. My personal thought is that land Rover had every intention of making the oil change process simplified, by using the vacuum method of oil retrieval from the sump, as this vehicle was manufactured with that intent. To me, It seems a bit to much to have to take the skid plate off every time you want to change your oil. As I am now sixty five, and my day's of wrenching are about done, with the exception of my motorcycle, which is very easy maintenance. Really enjoy your content my friend, Peace and Cheers my friend, from New Hampshire U.S.A.

What a bunch of silly lefties. When they make it hard to recycle the oil, people will just dump it in the storm drains, pour it down their sink, or dump it in a field late at night. They just NEVER think things through, do they??
